I will show you that in the extended forecast coming up. And we start with developing news in marin. The search continues for a missing 9yearold who wandered away from her familys camp site. With are live at the park where more than a hundred people will help search for the little girl today. Reporter the sheriffs lieutenant this morning who is in charge of this command center. He said from 150 to 160 trained search and rescue people are going to be taking part in the search for this 9yearold girl. We have seen some of them coming up to the command post site so far this morning. The family were visiting new mexico. She was with her family at a campground here when she wandered away yesterday. Search crews have been at work nonstop since yesterday afternoon trying to find any sign of her. The lieutenant with the Sheriffs Department said efforts led to no clues to her where abouts. They are stepping up their resources this morning. They will bring in trained searchers from alameda, santa clara and napa. They have started to arrive and will be meeting together here at the command post at 7 30 for a formal briefing to get information on the search assignments of this park. Also the marin sheriffs county dive team will be here. They will search the ponds and small lakes. The weather overnight was clear and mild. It was cool but not cold enough to be dangerous. The oddses of a child surviving overnight in this weather are good. There is no indication of foul play but the Sheriffs Department has five sheriffs detectives here at the park. They are following up on the case just in case. The hope is that the 9yearold is just lost in the forest and that someone will find her soon this afternoon. San Francisco Police are searching this morning for a gunman after a deadly shooting in the mission district. It happened just after nine. Police have not identified the victim but say he was a young man. Officers are looking for a purple lexus ls400 reported stolen an hour after the shooting. Police say the owner is a known gang member. San jose police are looking into a crash that involved two vans. It happened in willow and long. The firefighters say the vans crashed and both went up in flames. The driver escaped unhurt. Trains and buses are running today but contract talks between muni and its drivers have stopped. The board held a meeting yesterday to discuss the offer that was rejected by the drivers. The sticking points are wage increases. Now that talks have broken down people are concerned of another sick out like the one last week. Its frustrating for anyone who is trying to live in the city. Its expensive. You cant afford a car. We would love to see them figure it out. The drivers current contract expires on june 30th. A political and Media Consultant have been indicted. Ryan chamber lane is facing charges including possession of a device and a firearm. He was the focus of a nationwide manhunt after investigators searched his apartment. Court documents investigators found an ied. Chamber lane is in the San Francisco county jail. He is expected to be back in court on both monday and tuesday for a detention hearing and arraignment. A grass fire in man rain is under investigation. It started early yesterday morning in a remote area of the park. Firefighters say it started near power lines but they are looking for the cause. The fire burned about 35 acres and nobody was hurt. Firefighters also spent the night checking pot checking hot spots in san rafael. That fire broke out yesterday afternoon and came close to homes in a Mobile Home Park. About a hundred homes were evacuate. Knox was hurt but the flames destroyed two decks. That fire could have been worse if not for homeowner who had created defensible space. The fire should be a reminder to clear brush and grass around homes. We are asking that people work with us and help protect their homes and neighbors homes by cutting back that brush because the fire will come. One man was arrested for throwing an object at a firefighter but most neighbors said they were grateful to have the fire crews save their homes. A high school held its graduation but now they are dealing with health news. Families have been warned that students may have been exposed to whooping cough. Students attending Summer School need to be aware. Anyone who thinks their child may have the illness is asked to call the school. State Health Officials say there is a epidemic. After 800 cases were reported in california in just the past two weeks. In all there have been more than 3400 cases so far this year. Thats more than the number of cases reported all of last year. Year. Sonoma has the highest rate with 104 total cases. Former bart Police Officer is maintaining his claim that he accidentally shot and killed oscar grant. Yesterday he broke down on the witness stand during the wrongful death lawsuit over the shooting. He said that he meant to use his taser and not his gun on new years day in 2009. On thursday police raided a big illegal marijuana grow operation at what appeared to be an arcade repair shop. They took more than 800 plants. It starts at ten. We know the name of a man killed in a crash in san jose on wednesday night. Police say that the 26yearold Timothy Gardner was thrown from his car and killed after his car hit a tree. It happened on camden avenue. Gardner was the only person in the car. Speed was a factor in the crash but they are still investigating if drugs or alcohol was involved. We are learning more about a plea deal for a bay area executive accused in a hit and run crash. He pleaded no contest this week to felony charges. He received a reduced sentence of 30 days in jail and a 239 dollar fine. He is the ceo of the social media site next door. He is a ceus of causing a crash on highway 101 in bris pain and 101 in brisbane and then fleeing the scene. Red light cameras may soon be turned back on in oakland according to the friday buy. The department will Seek Proposals from camera companies. Last month cameras were shut off after the contract with the vendor pared. The assembly is moving forward to create yellow alerts, designed to catch hit and run driver who hurt or kill someone. The yellow alerts would be added to the Emergency Alert system that currently warns people about child kidnappings and other emergencies. Shortly after a serious hit and run crash the alerts would flash information about the suspect vehicle. The bill is modeled after a similar law in colorado thats credited with increasing the arrest rate in hit and runs. Investigators are trying to find what caused a crash between an amtrak train and a big rig. It happened at about four at market and soto. Amtrak said that the train was heading westbound from bakersfield to oakland. 131 were on board when the train hit the truck. No injuries were reported. Service was resumed later in the evening. This morning firefighters are calling a small fire that broke out in the Oakland Hills suspicious. It happened around 7 00 last night. Firefighters put out the flames with in minutes. They say the fire is suspicious because another small fire broke out in the area earlier in the day. One person was hurt in a fire at an oakland apartment complex. It happened just before 9 30 last night near hollis and 34 34th. It started in a kitchen and was put out quickly. Former dodgers owner frank mccort took the stand in the brian stowe trial. The family claims he was negligent in providing security. He testified that he didnt find out the two officers assigned to the parking lot were not present until years after the incident. Like all dodger fans, i was appalled at the criminal behavior of the two. Make no mistake, they are the parties responsible for this tragic incident. Store suffered brain damage and has not attended the trial since the jury was selected. The trial is set to resume on monday. Court documents filed in the trial over if the ncaa should share profit with student athletes are shedding light on how much money is at stake. It happened around seven last night. Firefighters put out the flames with in minutes. They say the fire is suspicious because another small fire broke out in the same area earlier in the day. One person was hurt at a fire at an oakland apartment. That happened just before 9 30 near holli s and 34th. They say it started in the kitchen and was put out. Reporter well, we just heard a few moments ago from marin county sheriffs lieutenant doug pittman, he came up to the crime scene tape at the command center, told us there is a significant, important piece of information, an update hell give us. He didnt have all the information. He went back. He will check back with us in a few minutes. He says there are some developments in this case, but heres what he told us so far. Heres what we know about the search efforts. Its grown into a huge effort. Theres a big outpouring of support and turnout from search and volunteer rescue workers. He says they initially planned for 120 to 150 people to search. Now they have about 240 people helping, to try and find 9year old ida rothschild, seen in this picture. She hasnt been seen since yesterday at noon when she wandered away from her familys camp site at Samuel P Taylor park. She is described as 4 2 tall, dark brown curly hair and bangs. Search crews looked for her yesterday and well into the night. So far, there hasnt been any clues to her whereabouts, but lieutenant pittman says searchers heading out today will have gps tracking devices so they can document every location they go to to look for clues to find her. He says this is the largest search effort in marin county in the last seven years. As you can see, this is a pretty thick, wooded area, and this requires what we call a grid search, really looking from tree trunk to tree trunk to try to find her. Having this number of people is really beneficial. Reporter the state park is about 4 1 2 square miles. Searchers were going to go beyond the park boundaries in their efforts today. There is a creek running adjacent to the park. Water rescue personnel did a search of the creek yesterday. This morning, the marin county sheriffs dive team is planning to do a search of some of the ponds. Again, just about a minute before we started our live shot, lieutenant pittman told us there have been some developments in this case. We dont know exactly what those are. Happening today, another search of the north bay in just about 20 minutes, volunteers heading out once again to look for a missing petaluma man. Volunteers are being asked to meet at the petaluma library. They are looking for roy martinez, who failed to show up for work on june 3rd. Martinezs wife says he left home before while suffering depressive episodes, but says he showed no signs of distress in the weeks leading up to his disappearance. Police found his car with his keys inside a few days later, along with his wallet and glasses and phone. San bruno police are looking for a man who tried to rob a Jewelry Store by saying he had an explosive device. These are images from the store surveillance camera. It happened at a store on san mateo avenue. Police say the man told the store clerk he would detonate the device unless he was given jewelry. He left emptyhanded after being told police were on the way. The man is in his twenties, 5 7, thin build with a dark mustache. Police are searching for a gunman after a deadly shooting in the mission district. It happened just after 9 00 last night at 15th and mission streets. Police have not identified the victim, but say he was a young man. Officers are looking for a purple lexus ls 400 that was reported stolen about an hour after the shooting. It has a license plate of 3njl591. Police say the registered owner is a known gang member. San jose police and fire investigators are looking into a crash that involved two mini vans. It happened at willow and long streets around 3 00 this morning. Firefighters say the vans crashed and both went up in flames. The drivers escaped unhurt. Muni trains and buses are running in San Francisco, but contract talks between muni and its Drivers Union have stopped. Csfmta board held a meeting yesterday to discuss the Contract Offer that was rejected by the drivers. The sticking points are wage increases and pension benefits. Now that labor talks have broken down, commuters are concerned there could be another sickout like the one that disrupted service last week. Its frustrating for anybody who is trying to live in the city. Its expensive. You cant afford a car. So we would love to see them figure it out. The current labor contract expires on june 30th. Bart is preparing to build a new line in east contra costa county. This week, it awarded contracts for construction of the tracks and building the railcars. It will not be regular bart service, but a light rail extension thats called e bart, being built in the highway 4 median from the bay point bart station through pittsburg to antioch. Bart expects the line to open sometime in 2016. Parking fees at many bart stations are going to increase by 50cent next month because of a District Program that evaluates prices every six months, then adjusts them depending on the lots capacity. The prices will go up for some stations on july 14th and then for more stations on july 28th. The only stations that are not affected are coma, millbrae, richmond, south heyward and south San Francisco. A San Francisco political and Media Consultant has been indicted by a federal grand jury. Ryan chamberlain faces charges of possession of a destructive device and a firearm with the serial number removed. Investigators searched his apartment two weeks ago today. Court documents say investigators found an improvised explosive device and remotecontrolled detonation system. Chamberlain is in the San Francisco county jail. Hes expected to be back in court on both monday and tuesday for a detention hearing and his arraignment. Former bart Police Officer johan mehserle told a jury yesterday he meant to use his taser and not his gun on new years day in 2009. Oscar grahams father is using the claim to seek unspecified damages. Four years ago, a jury convicted mehserle of involuntary manslaughter. He served one year in prison. A high school in lafayette held its graduation last night, but now the community is dealing with concerning health news. Families have been sent letters warning that students may have been exposed to whooping cough. The letter says that even though school is out for the year, students attending Summer School need to be extra cautious. Anyone who thinks their child might have contracted the illness is being asked to call the school right away. State Health Officials now say there is a full blown whooping cough epidemic, after 800 cases were reported in california in just the past two weeks. In all, there have been more than 3400 cases so far this year. Thats more than the number of cases reported in all of last year. Sonoma, napa, and marin counties have the highest number of cases per capita in the state. Sonoma county has the highest rate, with 104 total cases. Stanford is creating a new committee to review its policies on Sexual Assault cases. That comes in the wake of protests over the universitys decision to not expel a student accused of rape. According to the contra costa times, new policies will also require new students to undergo Online Training and Sexual Assault and harrasment. The school says the student accused of rape will be allowed to graduate and return for an advanced degree in 2016. A School Investigation found that while the student did assault a female student during a winter break in her hometown, it also concluded that because the two once dated, he does not pose a risk to other students. Firefighters spent the night checking hot spots from a grass fire that burned 12 acres in san rafael. The fire broke out yesterday afternoon on a hillside and came very close to homes in a Mobile Home Park in the con temp poe neighborhood of marin. About 100 homes were evacuated. No one was hurt. But the flames destroyed two decks and siding of a home. The fire could have been much worse if not for homeowners who created a defensible space. The fire should serve as reminder to everyone to clear brush and grass around homes. Yesterday around noon she wandered away from the familys camp site and no one could find her. New this morning, san jose firefighters say they have rescued a man who was trapped under a 10,000pound trailer. It happened within the past hour on quimby road. His condition has not been released. Another Police Academy class will graduate this morning from the criminal Justice Training center at napa valley college. Among this graduating class is a young man whose training was paid for by the vallejo Police Department. It is all part of a new effort under way to recruit the right candidates for almost two dozen open jobs. Police trainee jake estrada has come a long way from his old job. I was a farmer, almond farmer. Reporter but when he graduates this weekend, he will make history. As the first person to ever be recruited and sponsored by the vallejo Police Department. Its a familyoriented department. The camaraderie is great. Im happy to be a part of it. Yesterday morning, the lift up Oakland Coalition presented new research by uc berkeley. It shows if the minimum wage was raised from 8 an hour to 12. 25, more than a quarter of the citys workers would get a raise. Researchers say that would improve the Overall Health and happiness of those workers. Working fulltime, you should not have to be on public assistance making impossible choices between food, rent, gas, electricity. The best medicine for this problem is tackling the underlying root cause, which is income. Researchers also say increasing the minimum wage would not have a negative impact on employment or the economy. The issue is expected to appear on the november ballot. Red light cameras may soon be turned back on in oakland. The oakland tribune reports the Police Department will soon be seeking proposals from camera companies. Last month, cameras at 11 intersections were shut off after the citys contract with a vendor expired. The state assembly is moving forward with legislation to create yellow alerts, designed to catch hit and run drivers who seriously injure or kill someone. The alerts would be added to the Emergency Alert system that currently warns people about child abductions and other emergencies. Shortly after a serious hit and run crash, the alerts would flash information about the suspect vehicle. The bill was modeled after a similar law in colorado that is credited with increasing the arrest rate in hit and run cases. The chp says alcohol appears to have been a factor in a crash that killed a 20 yearold man. Daniel berry of santa rosa was driving on river road west of Sunset Avenue in Sonoma County just before 7 00 last night. The chp says his karviared into oncoming traffic, side swiping one car and hitting another headon. Berry was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger was taken to the hospital with two broken legs. The two other drivers were not seriously hurt. An anonymous tip helped Bay Area Police stop more than half a Million Dollars of drugs hitting the streets. On thursday, an ill grow operation was raided, at what appears to be an arcade repair shop. They seized more than 800 plants, leading to two more raids in san jose, which netted illegal guns, 10,000 in cash, and more drugs. In those little calls, little tips that come in here and now, those are sometimes the ones that crack a case wide open. Police say they also found some military grade stun grenades and a toddler wandering around, who was taken into protective custody. Three people were taken into custody. Former dodgers owner Frank Mccourt took the stand in the bryan stow beating trial. The family claims mccourt was negligent in providing security when stow was attacked opening day in 2011 outside dodgers stadium. Mccourt testified he didnt find out the two officers assigned to the parking lot where stow was beaten were not present, until years after the incident. Stow suffered brain damage from the beating and has not attended the trial since the jury was selected. The trial is set to resume on monday. Court documents filed in the trial over weather the ncaa should share profits with student athletes are shedding light on how much money is at stake in college sports. The San Jose Mercury news reports total revenues for division 1 football and basketball more than doubled from 2000 to the 201213 season.
