As i look at the bay bridge, we dont have any major problems. Likewise for the san mateo bridge. About 11 minutes driving over from hayward to the peninsula. The biggest traffic has been on 580. We have yet another collision. Westbound 580 at greenville road offramp. Once you get past that, lets say you are getting on the road in dublin or driving through castro valley, its not that bad. But hayward traffic will be slow. In the south bay, 85 backed up beginning at 87 and 101 and 280 are getting slower and slower. Kind of a normal commute there. Mark jackson is calling on warriors fans specifically to skip the game, to try to send a message to the clippers owner who was thought to have been caught on tape making racist comments to his girlfriend. There was also the question of how the nba might punish sterling. Brian murphy believes the marge shot rule will come into play. She was the the controversial former owner of the cincinnati reds. She did something offensive in bage in the 1990s in baseball in the 1990s and they suspended her. I would imagine they would Donald Sterling. Thats my guess but well see. Were following developing news from georgia. Authorities want to know the motive of a gunman who opened fire at a fedex facility north of atlanta before killing himself. It happened in the town of kennesaw, georgia. At least six people were rushed to the hospital this morning. One has serious injuries. Police say the Quick Response from other agencies around the state of georgia, that helped to save the lives of other workers who were still inside. Now, ktvus pam cook is following all of the latest developments on this story. Pam will be here at 7 45 with the shocking comparison one witness made between that gunman and rambo. Police are also crediting the quick thinking of parents for preventing what could have been a mass shooting at a high school in texas. Police say a 17yearold boy hid a loaded ak47 Assault Rifle in a school bathroom. He also proud two loaded handgun and a knife to school in his backpack with plans to commit a violent crime. But that plan was stopped when his parents found out the weapons were missing at home and called School Administrators right away. Now many students and parents Say Something needs to be done to protect them on campus. Think maybe now that weve had, they should mutt metal detectors. They should be more aware for bringing guns or anything like that. The school with about 3200 students was on lockdown. No one was hurt. Police still dont know what the boys intentions were. But he was taken into custody after the weapons were found on the school grounds. Sexual assault on College Campuses has reached epidemic levels according to the white house. Today, the Vice President is officially announcing a plan to deal with the issue. Well, san jose state along with hundreds of other colleges will be receiving guidelines from the federal government to tell them how they should be responding to any student that reports being groped or raped or sexually violated. Some students say a lot goes unreported because they are afraid and they feel something needs be done to improve the system. So today, joe biden will announce awide of information a variety of information. The prom will provide a model for proreporting the violence. At san jose state there were reports of women being groped while walking on campus. Students received a text about it. I think everyone has the sense it wont happen to me. I think people are nervous to walk around campus tonight. A lot of them dont think it will be them that gets assaulted. Reporter you would feel comfortable reporting something . I would. Im not im not afraid to do so but i think some girls are. Reporter and more things will be rolled out on College Campuses. The website notalone. Gov will be unveiled today. Students will be able to use it as a resource to know their rights under the law and how schools should respond to Sexual Violence. They will learn how to file a complaint and find a Crisis Center. Department of educations office for civil rights has been investigating how uc berkeley handles reports of Sexual Violence. 31 current and former students filed a complaint in february and say there was little or no response from the university when students reported rape, Sexual Assault and ongoing harassment. Uc berkeley says its already made some changes since the complaint was filed including adopting a new Sexual Misconduct policy. 7 10. Well, today, some students at san jose state plan to walk out of class, protesting the rising costs of going to college. They are protesting a fee known as the Student Success excellence and technology fee. Right now, students pay an extra 630 a year on top of their tuition. That fee is scheduled to go up to 790 this fall. Many students are angry. They say most of the money is going to be Athletics Department instead of resources that benefit all students. Were following developing news as a deadly storm system continues to rip through the deep south. At least 11 people were killed by tornadoes in mississippi and alabama yesterday. One of the hardest hit areas was the northeast part of mississippi. Entire buildings were flattened or completely blown away and this follows several deadly tornadoes on sunday that killed at least 18 people in arkansas, oklahoma and kansas and iowa. The Severe Weather is expected to continue today and Steve Paulson has been saying so far, more than 80 tornadoes have touched down. In total more than two dozen lives have been claimed since sunday. Many waited out the weather in tornado shelters like this one. In tennessee, the storms knocked over trees snapping them like twigs. Tornadoes devastated parts of arkansas, oklahoma, missouri, iowa sunday night. In the small town of vilonia, people are still trying to cope with the aftermath. The violent storms killed ten people in vilonia and nearby mayflower. What vilonia needs now is prayer. Prayer and just support. Police in santa clara are investigating a disturbing case of animal cruelty and school vand halism. Police say three boys caused major damage at Wilcox High School over the weekend. Police say the boys damaged cars, the schools snack shack and killed a number of animals that were part of a class project. At least five roosters or chickens, a duck and a rabbit were killed. Police say the animals were hit and thrown against walls. Disgusted. Absolutely ridiculous. Unacceptable. Whoever is responsible i hope that they get what they deserve. Officials say the plane likely ran out of fuel seven and a half hours into the flight. In the meantime, after seven weeks of an intense search from the skies, International Air efforts have been called off in looking for the missing plane. A family from alameda filing a criminal complaint against the livermore Amusement Center claiming discrimination. And they want the state to get involved. Well, an alameda family them happen to be sikh, they feel they were targeted because of their religion. Now, heres the issue 26 yearold arminder and his cousins were told they were not allowed to get on the gocarts unless they received their sikh turbans. The park has a posted policy that says no patron is allowed to wear head gear and say its a choking hazard. The group explains that the patkas were part of their religious belief but they were still turned away. The singh family spokesman said its baseless. We want our kids to be allowed to go with their head gear and which is kind of safety gear and go and ride as usual with the other kids. Reporter you want them to change their policy . Change the policy. Reporter a spokesperson for the palace entertainment, the Parent Company of boomers, released a statement saying safety is our number one priority. It happened over the weekend. The ntsb is waiting for a crane to be brought in to secure and raise that money. Now were out there, were out here with live pictures. Sid is zooming in showing you the spot. These are live near point rif monday. You can richmond. You can see one boat. Its been out there all night marking the spot where the wreckage was found. On sunday afternoon, the single engine cessna reportedly collided with another plen, then nosedived right into the bay. The other plane, a restored military fighter plane, went on to land safely in amador county. Thats where both planes are based. The pilot of the cessna is presumed to be dead. This is now being considered a recovery mission. They will probably be in divers and a crane and try to get it in one piece on the crane barge. The ntsb will supervise recovering the wreckage. It is also investigating the reports that the planes were 234r50euing too close to each flying to too close to each other while attempting a photo shop. A woman arrested for killing her son will face a judge for the first time. This morningary we learning more about morning were learning more about her battle with depression. Ashley newton was arrested after she admitted to police that she stabbed her baby with a pocketknife. It happened at del valle Regional Park in livermore. We spoke with newtons grandmother who says her granddaughter tried to seek help at a hospital the day before the killing but was turned away. She loved that baby. She loved him like any other mother would love a first born. Connie newton says her granddaughter had a history of depression since she was a teenager. She also says she had a troubled relationship with the babys father. Ashley newton was found at the scene with a selfinflicted stab wound. Shes being held on suspicion of murder. 7 37. Those remarks will have to be authenticated. Then everyone wondering what kind of punishment will the league hand down, how harsh will the punishment be. Experts that we spoke to expect fines, upwards of a Million Dollars and suspensions from going to games and even operating the team, maybe to force him to try to sell the team which would be an unprecedented move. Sterling bought the clippers 33 years ago for. Certainly the pressure is mounting. As you said, many calling for a boycott of tonights game. More importantly, he is feeling the pressure in the pocketbook. Some critics are calling for the resignation of Efren Carrillo despite a not guilty verdict in his peeping trial. Brian flores joins us now with Efren Carrillos political future and the message he has for the woman who lived next door to him. Although he says he has no intention of stepping down from office, some say this will leave a mark on his political future. The jury consisting of ten women and two men was originally deadlocked on a misdemeanor peeping charge. It was unclear whether they would come to a decision. But yesterday afternoon after concerns of a mistrial, the jury was instructed to only come to a verdict on the lesser attempted peeking charge. Pretty unusual there. After 15 minutes, the jury came to a unanimous decision of not guilty. About nine months ago, Police Arrested and prosecutors charged the 33yearold supervisor for peeping into a female neighbors yard. When Police Arrived he was dressed only in his yaund wear and socks. Efren carrillo said this was a result of alcoholism. Hes checked himself into rehab. He could have faced three to six of jail time. But this morning hes free and says he wants to move on and says this about the incident i never meant any hoerm harm. I made a terrible mistake, terrible lapse of judgment. I regret my actions, conduct. Nothing reduces that, i never meant any harm. Despite his not guilty verdict some are still calling for his resignation, the press democrat says we believe Efren Carrillo was guilty of such reprehensible conduct as to undermine his credibility as a public official. Its time for him to step down. Given his term is not up for another two years, we dont see how he can represent his district and the county. Supporters say he should be given a chance to salvage his career while others dont agree. This it appears it appears this will be brought up at the next meeting. Were getting new information on the developing news weve been following out of atlanta, georgia. Pam cook is in our newsroom with an update from the scene and the shocking description of the shooter. Good morning, pam. Good morning. One fedex employee is telling the Atlanta Journal newspaper that the shooter looked like rambo. He was dressed all in black with an Assault Rifle in his hands and bullets strapped to his chest. Now, that witness identified the shooter as a 19yearold employer at the fedex facility. The hospital confirms that six people were taken to the hospital, one is in Critical Condition. We do not know the extent of their injuries. Were hearing one Person Injured was a security guard. Now, we also just heard from investigators at the scene who say the shooter was found dead with the selfinflicted gunshot wound and that they also believe the shooter was a current employee. We are focusing on not only inside but actually what we believe to be the employees car in the parking lot. So were going to naturally during any type of active shooter investigation, you will focus on those you have been able to identify. We believe weve identified fid identified the vehicle and will be looking at it. The scene is very active, kennesaw, hundreds of officers responded to what is being called a workplace shooting. There are security checkpoints still in place at that fedex facility. Police escorted a bus filled with fedex employees from the shipping plant to a nearby skating rink to be questioned and reunited with their families. No clear motive for the shooting. The state Senate PublicSafety Committee is scheduled to consider a bill that would make cyberbullying a crime. Its called audreys law. It would make it illegal to share offensive photos or messages online or in person. At least six people were rushed to the hospital. One of them had serious injuries. Colleges and universities are gonna be asked to participate in a Campus Climate survey to help determine the prevalence. The Obama Administration will also provide schools with a model for reporting the violence and handling kf degettalty. Oftentimes victims are afraid to report an incident and are concerned their past history will be questioned. I think its an issue where it might not be reported. I think every female or male should step up and report that because Everyone Needs to know whats going on on campus if its an issue that has not been touched, it should be brought up. Police in santa clara are investigating a disturbing case of animal cruelty and school vandalism. Police say three boys caused major damage at Wilcox High School over the weekend. Police say the animals were hit and thrown against walls. Disgusted. Absolutely ridiculous. Unexceptable. Whoever is responsible, i hope that they get what they deserve. New this morning, reports that coach darren erman was fired because he allegedly was secretly recording conversations between players and coaches. Heres some video of darren from the warriors website. Now, earlier this month, the warriors would only say he was fired because he violated company policy. Well, now there are several report that say erman was taping discussions including speeches. He would use his phone to record the conversations without anybodys knowledge. Its a violation of californias law to record people without their consent. This morning, were also following the efforts to bring the wreckage of a small plane that crashed over the weekend into the bay. Efforts to bring it up to the surface. The ntsb is waiting for a crane to be brought in to secure and raise the wreckage. Heres some new video. We shot this about an hour ago from the area near point richmond. You can see right in the middle of your screen, a boat. Its been out there all night. It is marking the spot where the wreckage was found. On sunday afternoon, the single engine cessna plane recordedly collided with another plane, then nosedived right into the water. The other plane, a restored military fighter plane, it did land safely in amador county, where both planes are based. The pilot of the cessna is presumed to be death. It happened at del valley Regional Park in livermore. We spoke with newtons grandmother who says her granddaughter tried to seek help at a hospital the day before the killing but was turned away. She loved that baby. Conditionny newton Connie Newton says her granddaughter had a history of depression since she was a teenager. She also said she had a troubled relationship with the babys father. Ashley newton was found at the scene with a selfinflicted stowb wound. Hes being stab wound. Shes being held in jail on suspicion of murder. A napa county judge is considering the possible release on bail of a woman accused of murdering her 3year old daughter. The lawyer for 23yearold sara krueger says her client poses no threat to the public. She wants her released on 1 million bail. Now, krueger and her boyfriend have been charged in the january beating death of cayleigh slusher. No word when the judge may rule on the request. An Alameda County sheriffs deputy who hit and killed a pedestrian in hayward will not be criminally charged. That was the district attorneys decision yesterday regarding Deputy Jonathan ham. Pam cook is in the newsroom monitoring the updates from the scene and also the hospital. Good morning, pam. Reporter we just got an update from the hospital on the condition of the people who were injured this morning and what is now being called a workplace shooting. The hospital confirms six people taken to the hospital. They are saying that two are in Critical Condition with life threatening injuries. They are both in surgery right now. The Atlanta Journal constitution newspaper talking with fedex employees who are giving very scary accounts of what they saw and heard at the facility this morning. One woman says she saw the shooter inside and identifies him as a 19yearold employee. She says the shooter looked like rambo, that he was dressed all in black with an Assault Rifle in his hands and bullets strapped to his chest. We cant confirm that six patients from the shooting were brought here to kennesaw hospital, one was brought here in Critical Condition. Family has been notified or are in the process of being notified. Reporter the just after the we understand employees were shipped to a nearby skating rink to be questioned and then reunited with their family. Still no clear motive for the shooting. Now, fedex has issued a statement this morning it says, our thoughts and prayers are with those effected and with their affected and with their families and friends.
