A little line from Half Moon Bay back to danville, san ramon. 50s on the temperatures. Come down the last couple of hours. They were near 60 for a while. Already a back edge to this. If youve had rain to the north, you are probably done to this. There is more to the sierra. The breeze has picked up. It will be a breezy day. Rainfall projections about. 10. I think thats kind of the extreme. Cloudy, mild, morning drizzle. Breezy for some. Partly sunny, partly cloudy this afternoon. That wind will pick up. It will be more northerly by tonight. 60s and 70s. Heres sal. Were looking at a commute on 580 thats not great because of an earlier truck fire that did block lanes for a time. The fire crews actually blocked some of the lanes. But 580 will be very slow because of a garbage truck that caught on fire on the right shoulder now. So the lanes are open. But as you might imagine, people driving past the scene are taking a good, long look at the truck. Thats kind of human nature. 580 is backed up all the way out to 205. You need to give yourself an extra halfhour to 45 minutes. I realize its a tall order for a morning commute. If you are still trying to get somewhere on time, i think you need to do that. 58 on the the truck is near airway boulevard. But the backup, as i said, is for miles and miles. Lets take a look now at some of the other commutes. Bay bridge, 30, 35minute drive time from oakland into San Francisco. Most of that is waiting at the toll plaza. As we look around the bay, right now, southbound 101 in marin county is sluggish from near alameda del prado down to the civic center. Then we go to san jose. Northbound 280 looks good. 101 is slow after 280 and slow again approaching sunnyvale. Believe it or not, 85 northbound, is not that bad yet. A little bit slow coming into the almaden valley. I think it will get worse. Right now, a little slow in saratoga as well. Back to the desk. All right, sal. Thank you. Theres you a any information about an east bay teacher accused of child molestation. Claudine wong is live in vallejo with why police fear there may be more victims. Reporter good morning. Yes. The teacher actually grew up in solano county. A few years ago, the local paper did a story on him when he founded a Youth Organization that he called camp epic. Hes in martinez behind bars facing 27 charges for abuse and allegations from children on outdoor trips he took with six boys in 2012 and 2013. When he was arrested, he was a 7th grader teacher at mira vista middle school. The School Board President said he had been planning an unauthorized outdoor trip to yosemite. It appears that wasnt the first time he had done that. He founded camp epic that was focused on outdoor trips with children. His effort to start the group began in 2008. He started a Spring Semester in American Canyon and then he connected up with making Ways Charter School in richmond. Thats when he said the first set of middle school boys attended a campout with a trip to yosemite in 2011. I talked to Richmond Police and Vallejo Police. Richmond police would only tell me they cant make any more comment on this investigation because its still ongoing and they are still doing followup. I talked to a lieutenant here at the Vallejo Police department this morning and he told me that he wasnt aware of if Richmond Police had reached out yet but he said if there were any victims to come forward in vallejo, detectives would pursue that investigation. Police say they are searching for a man who tried to carjack a victim at gunpoint at climate and 12th street. The suspect was last scene walking toward park presidio. A suspect connected to the shooting of a san Francisco Police officer is now in custody. The officer is recovering from his gunshot wound to the shoulder. Meanwhile, Police Arrested the suspect in this case for assault with a deadly weapon, possession of ammunition, driving more than 100 miles an hour and evading officers but they did not arrest him for shooting an officer. Thats because investigators are still trying to piece together exactly what led up to the shooting. Officer shot. Ive been hit. Reporter the frantic moments captured from the initial 911 call and this is Surveillance Video of 50year old Jeffrey Ruanoa being arrested yesterday morning. That followed a ninehour manhunt through four counties. It started saturday afternoon in San Franciscos mission district. Police say officer shaw and his partner stopped ruano to question him about vandalism. Shots were fired when ruano started to back his car up toward the officer. Shaw was shot in the shoulder. With chp help, ruano was spotted driving in richmond and that spurred a police chase with speeds reaching up to 100 miles an hour. Last night we noticed two unmarked Police Officer cars were uniformed officers at San Francisco general. We know that investigators are trying to figure out if it was ruano who pulled the trigger. So far more than a dozen aftershocks have been reported. The earthquake did not trigger a tsunami warning. No reports of damage or injuries. We could learn the identity today of an oakland woman killed when a tree fell on highway 50 in vacaville. The crash happened just before 2 00 yesterday afternoon near cherry glen road. The chp said the woman was driving on the far right lane of the tree when a eucalyptus tree fell and landed directly on her car. We believe it did not belong to the state because of the fenceline but were still investigating that. So investigators are now trying to determine who owns the land where the tree is located. Family and friends are ratherring a san jose man killed after a car crashed and caught fire. Dozens of people attended the vigil last night for adrian carona who was killed after being trapped in a car on east santa clara street. His girlfriend is in the hospital with lifethreatening injuries. Another passenger has serious injuries. Police say carona was behind the wheel and they are investigating the cause of the crash. 7 09. A bay area internet entrepreneur is scheduled to appear in court on Domestic Violence charges. A colorado couple has opened what may be the first Legal Marijuana club. The owners say members will have to bring their own marijuana and only food and drinks will be sold. Traffic is moving along slowly on 580 as we go to our newschopper2. There was a truck that was on fire. It was not in the lanes. It pulled over but the Fire Department at one point blocked the lanes. People slowing to take a look at it. Its its usually very slow here. 580 ising baainged up is backed up from 205. 205 is slow. 24 is showing the this is showing the huge backup. The lanes are open. The sigalert has been canceled but the damage is done. Traffic is backed up for a 30 minute delay at the toll plaza. 30minute drive time between oakland and San Francisco. As we look at the south bay, it took only a while for me to say last time that 85 was not that bad. Right now its very slow from about highway 87 all the way through to saratoga. It really did go from good to bad in just a short time. 101 is okay. 280 at 880 a little bit slow. Thats about all. After that it gets into the cupertino area with no problem. But again, 85 is the slowest freeway. Thats no surprise to people who drive it every day. Lets go to steve. Everybody has a weather app. They do. On their is smartphone. The agonizing wait continues for family members for those on board a missing malaysian flight. And the boston marathon, just around the corner. About 250 girls were performing saturday night for the annual musical theater challenge when the stage suddenly collapsed. School Officials Say about 40 of those girls were sent to the hospital with minor injuries. All of the ones in the front, they drop about 10 feet in the pit. They were getting ready to judge the contestants and everything just came to a screeching halt. Investigators are now looking into the schools stage permit to see if it included a wait restriction or a limit on the number of people the stage could hold. Well, today Public Safety officials will release more details about enhanced security for this years boston marathon. Authorities have been meeting to come up with a plan to increase security for the run on april 21st. It follows last years deadly terror attack. Three people were killed 260 people were injured. 36,000 runners up to a million spectators are expected to attend this years event. Attorneys for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev are due in court today for Three Friends of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev are due in court today. Prosecutors say those friends went to Dzhokhar Tsarnaevs dorm room three days before the attack and got a laptop. They face charges of obstruction of justice and lying to investigators. All three have pleaded not guilty. If you have a house in the bay area and you are looking to sell, now could be the time. The bay area has been named the best place in the country to sell a home. Ziprealty based the top ten on median sale prices and total housing inventory. Last year, the median sales price went up 35 verses the National Average of 11. 5 . Already ended at San Francisco. You can see the line. If you are getting light rain it probably wont last very long. Low 50s, mid50s. A little breezy for some. Not too bad but i expect that to pick up a little later especially as we get more of a westerly breeze. Palo alto, menlo park, maybe light rain. Same out to livermore. All the way out to discovery bay. San jose, the coverage is very light. Theres not a lot to the system. But its there. Well deal with it for the morning hours. Steve, good morning. Were looking at a mess on 580 in the Livermore Valley because of an earlier truck fire. The fire was here. You can see the truck itself, the cab was fully involved. One of the things i want to mention, 580 traffic is a big mess even though all of the lanes are open because people have been slowing to take a look at it. All of the lanes are open. Traffic is backed up way back from 205 and maybe even a little bit farther than that now as you drive into pleasanton. You will be set back. If you get back on the freeway in pleasanton, the traffic is not all that bad. Its a little bit slow. Lets move along to the bay bridge toll plaza, thats backed up for a 30minute delay. A little bit more than that. Lets say 35 to be on the safe side. Thats your drive time into San Francisco. Marin county, southbound 101 from 37. It slows all the way down to the civic center but the slowest part is in novato. As we look at san jose, 85 is slow from about highway 87 into cupertino. 85 is not doing well. Its kind of normal for that time. 101 is backed up from the capital spri. 280 is slow as you approach the 880 interchange. Lets go back to the interchange. Tree fires intentionally three fires intentionally set in one fremont neighborhood. Alex savidge is at the scene of one of those fires with more on the problems this is now causing School Children there. Reporter good morning to you. Dozens of children here at james leech Elementary School in fremont are being shifted around because of the fire. All of them take part in a preschool program put on by the ymca. Its normally held inside this portable classroom. There is quite a bit of damage to this building. Thats because overnight somebody set fire in this area to the outside of the building. Now those students have to be moved to another classroom. They are beginning to arrive. Fremont firefighters got this call about 3 00 this morning and as crews responded to this first fire, they noticed smoke from a second fire. It was a shed at a nearby Little League field burning. We dont know what was inside. Around the same time, there was also another fire, a third fire set at a public bathroom at Warm Springs Park. Investigators say someone set fire to the door of thewomens restroom. All of them were suspicious in nature. They started on the exterior of the building. Theres no type of fire source that could have started those fires. Reporter arson investigators from the Fire Department and the Police Department are working together to try to figure out who set these fires. They dont have a whole lot to go on. Theres no description of anybody that they have put out. They need witnesses to come forward. Anyone who may have seen someone suspicious in this area around the time these three fires were set. This is around 3 00 this morning. All of the fires were burning simultaneously. And the impact has been great for students here at james leech Elementary School. The chp is looking for the driver who left the scene of a deadly crash near the oakland coliseum. It happened around 3 00 when vehicles crashed north of hegenberger. The mini driver flipped over killing the male driver. A passenger in the car was taken to the hospital. The chp driver of the black sedan, police say took off on foot. Happening today, jury deliberations will continue in the trial of a convicted bank robber accused of getting into a gun battle with chp officers four years ago on an oakland freeway. 48yearold Byron Williams of Tuolumne County faces life in prison if convicted of the attempted murder of four chp officers in 2010. Prosecutors say williams was planning an attack on of the Tide Foundation and aclu in San Francisco when he was stopped by the chp on interstate 580. He was wearing a bulletproof vest and had three guns. Williams was shot four times in a gun battle but survived. Family and friends are remembering a man killed in a shooting in north richmond. Earl henning died and three others were injured in a shooting in front of a home on first street. Friends have paid tribute to him by painting his name on the sidewalk where the shooting happened. Police have not made any arrests. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Contra Costa County sheriffs department. A 16yearold boy is dead after hit by a car while walking across a san jose highway. The chp says the teen was trying to cross highway 85 near snell avenue just after 4 00 yesterday morning. He was hit by a woman driving a bmw. She stopped and is cooperating with investigators. The teens identity has not yet been released. A new study shows more americans are taking Public Transportation instead of driving their own cars. Here in the bay area, caltrain marked record ridership with an 11 daily increase. B. A. R. T. s ridership is higher than ever with a record 400,000 trips being made on most work days. The price at the pump continues it go up. Gas prices have jumped 10 cent otherser the last few weeks. Thats for unleaded fuel at 3. 51 nationwide. But in california, the average is much higher at 3. 89. Here is a look at where gas prices stand right here in the bay area. In San Francisco, drivers are paying an average of 3. 92. In san jose, it will cost around 3. 86 and in oakland people are paying 3. 84 to fill up their tanks. Today, a bay area lawmaker plans to introduce legislation to prevent people from sabotaging pg e substations. The bill would help to prevent coordinated attacks that could cause widespread blackouts. 17 transformers were destroyed in a coordinated sniper attack at a pg e substation in san jose. The new legislation would require electric utilities in california to develop better security systems. Police are warning people who live in the east bay about someone possibly posing as a woker for east bay m. U. D. A ford truck belonging to the company was stolen thursday night. Authorities are concerned the thief might try to impersonate a water impersonator employee because a work badge, hard hat and safety vest were in the truck 1285077 is the license plate number. Authorities say it was last spotted over the weekend at Redwood Church in castro valley. Crews are set to begin to work on the small rail lane. The initial work will take place from the Petaluma River to smith ranch road in san rafael. It will remove the old tracks, clearing out any brush and treeps in the way. The nearly 428 million project is expected to be finished in 2016. Once completed, the line will run from san rafael. The federal government has denied permits to widen the Guadalupe River near san jose. The Water District approved a plan to restore the river that feeds into San Francisco bay in 2009. But both the army corps of engineers and the epa have refused to issue permits for the work. Federal Officials Say widening the river could release mercury thats been trapped in mud and sand for decades threatening several endangered species. A program that would allow shuttle buses could use muni buses could be stalled for months. Community groups have appealed the project saying an Environmental Impact report must be conducted. The appeal comes after several protests at shuttle stops. The shuttles have led to higher rents and evictions. The board of supervisors is scheduled to vote on the appeal on april 1st. Voluntary water cuts due to the drought are paying off. According to the examiner, water use in the city has dropped 18 since the end of january. Thats when the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission First asked customers to voluntary cut back water use by 10 . A series of storms helped boost the water supply. Reportedly the system will continue usely monitor the behavior of the many of the employees with clearances. Parents here at james leems school are beginning to arrive and drop of their students. Many are troubled by this fire that police and firefighters say was intentionally set. You can see students troped off right now. We also talked with the superintendent. He told us that he is grateful this fire was contained to just one portable here on campus. Someone set fire to the outside of this portable around 3 00 this morning. It houses toz dozens of students who take part in a preschool and Afterschool Program put on by the ynca. This morning all of the students had to be moved to a multipurpose room on the campus. They noticed the score box, it had caught fire. Around the same time, there was also a third fire at a public restroom at Warm Springs Park very nearby. Investigators say in that case, someone set fire to the door of the womens restroom. These three intentionallyset fires have parents here on edge. Its kind of frightening to see that this is our community. We live in a safe community. But to have people come in and invade our schools and parks where we send our kids to school. It just its kind of scary. The chp says the driveert of the black sedan took off on foot. We now know the identity of the man killed in a dui crash. Police say the man who died is the cousin of the driver arrested. The cell phone video shows the aftermath of the crash at washington avenue and castro street. The impact sent an acura and a camaro up on the sidewalk. The drivest camaro was not hurt. The acura was swung around. The rear end was on that tree. The passenger side was dented in. Had to get the jaws of life and pry it open. The driveert of the integra was arrested for dui and gross vehicular manslaughter and could make his First Court Appearance as soon as tomorrow. Water use in the city has dropped 18 since the middle since the end of january. Thats when the San Francisco publy Utilities Commission first asked public customers to cut back. The Hetch Hetchy Reservoir that supplies about 85 of San Franciscos water is now at half capacity. A new study shows more americans are taking Public Transportation instead of driving to their destination. The american Public Transportation Association Says americans took nearly 10. 7 billion trips on Public Transportation last year. Thats the highest total since 1956. Here in the bay area, caltrain marked record ridership last year with an 11 daily increase. B. A. R. T. s ridership also even higher with a record 400,000 trips being made on most days. The price at the pump continues to go up. According to the latest lundberg survey, gas prices have jumped 10 cents over the last few weeks. 3. 53 is the average nationwide. In california, the average is much higher at 3. 89. Now here is a look at where gas prices stand right now in the bay area. In San Francisco, drivers are paying an average of 3. 92 a gallon. In san jose, it will cost around 3. 86 and in oakland, people are paying 3. 84. 8 38. And a program that would allow shuttle buses could use muni bus stops in San Francisco could be stalled for months. The San Francisco examiner reports Community Groups have appealed for the project to be put on hold saying an Environmental Impact report must be conducted. This comes after several protests. This leads to higher rents and evictions, the board of supervisors is scheduled to vote april 1st. Construction crews in marin are set to work on the smart line. Rail Officials Say the initial work will take place from the Petaluma River to smith ranch road in san rafael. It will include removing the old track clearing out any brush or trees in the bray and installing way and installing new rails. The new project is expected to be finished by 2016. Once completed, the line will run from san rafael to santa rosa and an extension to larkspur could follow. The federal government has denied permits to widen the gaup lupe risker Guadalupe River in san jose. The army corps of engineers and epa have refused to issue permits. The officer is here recovering after receiving surgery to his shoulder. Thats where he received the gunshot wound. We do know that police are still they have a lot of unanswered questions. They did make an arrest that happened yesterday that was for an assault with a deadly weapon. Possession of ammunition. Driving more than a hundred miles an hour as well as evading officers. Note they did not arrest the suspect for shooting the officer. Thats because they still have a lot of investigating to do. Officer shot. Ive been hit. Reporter these are the frantic moments captured from the initial dispatch call and this is surveillance. This is video of 50yearold Jeffrey Ruano being arrested at a san jose gas station early yesterday morning. That followed a nearly nine hour manhunt through four counties. It started in the mission district. Police say officer shaw and his partner stopped ruano to question him about vandalism and then shots were fired when ruano started backing up his car towards officers. Officers shot at the car but the suspect was not hurt. Now, adam shaw, the officer who was injured, he was shot in the shoulder and then ruano drove away. His car found abandoned in daly city. Ruano was spotted driving in richmond and that sighting spurred a police chase to san jose with speeds reaching more than 100 miles an hour. We noticed two Unmarked Police cars with uniformed officers at sf general. Investigators are trying to figure out if it was ruano who pulled the trigger. 8 48. Putting together pieces of a puzzle. Now, the latest word is that the search is actually expanded to the land as well as with the water. Malaysias airport chief said the plane may have turned back from its scheduled route before it disappeared frommadear. He says the from radar. He says the fact that no debris has been found in the water means it did not upon impact and may have disintegrated at 35,000 miles of feet. Theres speculation this could be an act of terrorism. The International Police Agency Interpol confirmed two passengers on flights have used stolen passports. [inaudible] the stoeten passports, they are looking at that ingal. Those passports were reportedly in thailand in the past two years. Investigators say they are talking to some travel agencies in thailand that sold oneway tickets to two people who may be the people using those stolen passports. Now, the malaysian transportation minister says investigators are also checking the identities of two other passengers. Its still slowing as you approach saratoga avenue. I want to mention the tract here at the toll plaza is backed up for 30 minutes with no major problems. Some of the traffic times are improving a little bit. 580 from grant line to 680 still about 40 minutes but it was more than an hour a while ago. 680 hitting south out of pleasanton to the sunol grade is still slow. A lot of cloud cover but clearing rapidly to the north and our system, give it credit. It held together and gave us rain. Its moving out fast. So clouds will give way to sunshine here. It happened in the town of la canada in flintridge. Police say the accident happened when a driver hit a tree disturbing a high of bees. A 17yearold driver was stung 500 times. An officer sprayed her with a fire extinguisher to get the bees off. Another driver took the brunt of the attack and may have been stung a thousand times despite diving into a pool to escape the bees.
