Welcome to mornings on 2. Its saturday, january 11th. Lets get a check of the weather with rosemary. Good morning. Good morning. Its a cloudy start. We have wet weather on the way. Giving you a look here another where that front resides at moment over the north corner of california. If i slide in over parts of the north bay you can see we are mainly dry. We have cloudy conditions, even fog reported. This is going to be moving through. Right now im pinging up ping im picking up just a few returns. As we get into saturday this is going to slide south the north bay will get it first and then itll progress through the day. I will timeline had for you, show you when the best possibility will be to get wet and your numbers for today. How much rain i expect and some snow for the sierra. Ly have information on that coming up. And we start with developing news from san jose this morning where suspected arsonist may have struck again. We are live in the Downtown Neighborhood where crews have been busy putting out fires. Reporter for the most part this fire is out though you can see a lot of san jose firefighters still out on the scene. They have their ladder truck in front of this 100 year old home. They are shooting water down into it to put out the hot spots and there is still a little bit of smoke from the roof. This fire started around 4 30 this morning and san jose firefighters believe this is the work of a serial arsonist. At thats worst it was a two alarm fire and was quite challenging because as they put the fire out the roof collapsed. There were some power lines and live wires in the area that were also affected as they were putting out the fire. This is the home of an elderly couple who lived here for decades. Their neighbors fortunately saw the fire early this morning, they were able to alert the couple, wake them up, get them out. They got out unhurt and so did their pet cat. Investigators are concerned. There have been 11 suspected arson fires in the downtown area since wednesday. Major problem. We have been lucky so far. Actually we the residents of san jose have been lucky that nobody was hurt. You know or nobody has died. Reporter now later today firefighters will be announcing a ten thousand dollar reward for information leading to the arrest of that arsonist. Investigators are on the scene here but the captain said so far they havent found evidence yet of an accelerant used but believe its arson because it started on the outside of the home and its in the same area where the other ten suspicious fires have happened since wednesday. They believe its the work of the same arsonist and later today they will announce a reward for information leading to the arsonists arrest. Live in san jose. K. The bodies of two people were found inside a burning home in palo palo alto. Firefighters were called to the home around 7 15 last night. Witnesses describe seeing flames 20 feet in the air and authorities arent releasing the victims identities where where the bodies were found or how they died but they say they believe they know where the fire started. At this point we have no indication what the cause or origon of the fire the Fire Department did tell us i should add that they believe pleiomery that the fire started in the kitchen of the residence. Investigators say they will return to the scene today because it is a deadly fire. As standard procedure the Arson Task Force will investigate along with Palo Alto Police and fire. The fire in walnut creek claimed the life of a man in his 60s. The home caught fire around 9 30 last night. It took about 30 minute its to knock it down. The body of the victim was located on the second floor a woman who was also in the house was able to escape a former neighbor said that the couple living in the home a loving people who take in dogs and people who have no place to live. New this morning a pedestrian was killed in a hit and run in san jose. It happened just before midnight on the jackson avenue onramp to interstate 680. The chp said the victim was walking southbound on the right shoulder of that ramp when he was hit. After that initial collision, a passing taxi then struck the victim. The cab driver stopped and called for help. The pedestrian was declared dead at the scene. His name has not been released and its not clear why he was on the ramp and there is no description of the first vehicle that hit him. Also new, police in san jose are investigating the latest homicide. That happened sometime before 2 30 this morning. Police say when they arrived they found the body of the male victim on the corner. The victim had been stabbed to death. So far there is no word on why the victim who may have been targeted or who was behind the stabbing. Anyone with information is asked to call police. 11 people in the bay area have died from the flu and now the father of one of the youngest victims hopes the public will learn from his sons death. Get your flu shots because its attacking young people. More more so than they expected. Cliff walker is still to shaken to appear on camera but he said he believes his 23year old son matthew was more at risk to getting sick because he had a busy work and social life and his Overall Health was run down. If you demand that much from your body you have to take some care of it. Young people tend not to think about that. Matthew walkers father said his son was first diagnosed with food in santa rosa the day after christmas but was sent home to recover. He returned by ambulance the next day unable to breathe. He had cardiac arrest and was in a coma for two weeks. Doctors dont believe the flu will match the 2009 pandemic which killed more than 600 in california. So far there are about 3 dozen deaths statewide, possibly due to the flu because the strain is contagious and Deadly Health officials in the bay area, even people who got stick are warning everybody to take precautions. I couldnt get out of bed. Like you get hit by a truck. Thats what it felt like. The hospital said it has giverren out more than 1. 2 million flu shots but the high demand means shortages in some spots, they and walgreens are redirecting people to other clinics but they expect to have more vaccines next week. County clinics like the one in concord are also reporting a dramatic jump in the number of people asking for flu shots, many are bringing in their children and doctors are focusing that you cannot get the flu from a flu shot. Concord police have taken a couple of people in custody in connection with a shooting at a wendys. They say there was a physical confrontation between a group of men at the restaurant on monument boulevard around six. When the victim went outside one of the suspects shot him and then fled. We are told that officers then tracked the suspects to a nearby home where they made a couple of arrests a short time later. I heard all the noise inside the house and people were coming out, screaming, yelling, they why saying a lot of bad words, really angry. The shooting victim was rushed to the hospital with life threatening injuries. Police arent talking right now about what led or might have led to that dispute. Several hours earlier one person was hurt in a shooting in north concord. That happened just after 3 30 afternoon. The victim was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Both cases active but there is no evidence that they are related. You heard rosemary mention it at the top of the newscast. Rain making its way here into Northern California and slowly going south toward the bay area. Yeah. Its a far cry from what we need but enough to get us wet and its saturday. Again moving through Northern California, Crescent City reporting light rain at times but thats been about it so far. If we get in closer to the bay area showed you this at the top of the hour we are pretty much dry. We just have cloudy conditions overhead, the rain still, at least 38 miles out. Just a few returns but mostly dry. The system will move through, let me show you exactly what im talking about. Waking up with the clouds this morning as we get into the 10 00 hour, notice over the north bay. This is where we will see most the rainfall because as it begins to sweep farther south it breaks apart by about 11 00, noontime, its across the central bay, across i80, the golden gate bridge. Across the peninsula. For lunch a few scattered showers but notice its already falling apart. The inner east bay. Mostly cloudy. Then by one or so its sliding in to the south bay a few scattered showers, the higher elevation, san jose, a few poti showers and then as we move farther south it conditions to dwindle. Santa cruz, mainly dry, maybe just a few scattered showers, but this is what we will be for today. Cloudy, cool the possibility of light rain. Two tenths to maybe a quarter inch much over parts of the north bay and then into saturday evening we will dry out and be dry for sunday. The Justice Department is weighing in on the status of same sex marriages in utah. Right now they have been suspended while the decision to allow them is pealed. That action should begin by extending Unemployment Insurance for american who are laid off in the recession through no fault of their own. Economists say they were disappointed yesterday with the jobs report that shows the country added 74,000 jobs last month, the fewest in three years. The president said that the success of the country depends on the success of the economy and the ability of the American People to make ends meet and provide for their families. Richmond could soon offer the highest minimum wage in the area. On tuesday the city council will discuss three different proposed rates ranging between 11 and 15 an hour. If the City Council Decides to put it on the November Ballot voter also have the chance to vote on the increase, right now San Francisco has the highest minimum wage at 10. 74 an hour. The states minute membership wage is 8 an hour. Foster farms has been given the green light to resume operations at a plant that was shut down this week because of cockroaches. Its in Livingston South of modesto. The Agriculture Department shut it down on wednesday. The company had a deep cleaning operation after inspectors found the insects. Now that they have an action plan it can reopen today. Its their largest facility. Luxury Department Store Neiman Marcus said its customer information has been hacked. They said debit and credit card information may have been compromised but they dont know how widespread the problem is at this point. They say that the Security Breach happened in mid december. So far only shoppers who use their cards in stores seem to be affected, not people who bought online. The Security Breach at target is much worse than thought. The retailer estimates that the number of victims at 70 to 110 million. They had first disclosed last month that the credit and deb aid cards of 40 million were affected by the breach but an investigation into the theft exposed more victims and revealed other private information was also taken including names, phone numbers and email addresses. Phishing email that will say they are from target and try to get Financial Information. Target is offering free credit monitoring to all of its customers but experts say its a thin layer of protection that wont stop Identity Theft. Gm is a nounsing its recalling about 370,000 trucks because they could catch fire. The recall includes 2014silv era dos and gmc full sized truck. They said the vehicles have Software Problems that could can lead to over heating and fires. They said they are confirmed eight such fires but no injuries involved in those fires. They said itll fix the problem for free starting next week. Tesla said its taking steps to prevent over heating of its cars charging system. They said they are sending customers upgraded wall adaptors. They said that should address the problem. Several drivers of the model s have reported over heating smoking. San franciscos Ride Sharing Program uber is cutting down the price of its service but not for long. The company has dropped its base rate to 3dollar plus 1. 50 per mile. The ceo said its an attempt to increase market share but according to an email sent out to Company Drivers the lower prices could be gone with in a few weeks. The company said that lower evacuates have sacrificed almost all of its revenue in San Francisco. Yelp could soon disclose the identities of several reviewers. The Business Owner of a Carpet Cleaning service in virginia is claiming seven negative reviews werent written by real customers. An Appeals Court in virginia has ruled the identities of those reviewers must be released to determine if the claims are true. There is something to be said about being anonymous and protecting yourself and having the right to say or criticize like this is that side but there is always the liable side. The front will bring us the possibility of a few scattered showers. Most of this rain over the north corner of california. Crescent city reporting light rain. Eureka. The showers will develop later this morning. Our best shot will be over the north bay between ten and noon. Two tenths expected over parts of the north bay. Perhaps a quarter inch much. As it slides south, less opportunity. Especially over parts of the south bay. Over the central bay between noon and two the best possibility for you to get the scattered showers and then into the afternoon between one and three over areas like san jose and then we are clearing out by this evening. If you have evening plans, chances are we will be mostly dry, partly to mostly cloudy, especially over parts of the north bay. The warming trend will pick back up as we get going next week and dry weather will be in the forecast, in fact we are looking at dry weather for the second half of the weekend. The latest target overnight and why concern in that area is growing. Good morning. Welcome back. Its a developing story that we have been following since yesterdays morning news a suspected arsonist loose in downtown san jose a church, a business and several homes all damaged and now this morning a century old house. We are live at the scene of the latest suspicious fire. Reporter this house is on east saint john and north 17th street in the downtown san jose area. Firefighters have been here since 4 30 and are still out here. They are still putting water, trying to get some of the hot spots out. The fire is out but there are still hot spots they are trying to fights and you can see the ladder truck. Some of the firefighters walking on the ladder truck and they are positioning their hoses above what is what was the roof. The roof collapsed during the fire. If we pan off to the right you can see some of the water flowing out of the home in the front porch area. Nobody was hurt. Thats the good news but fire investigators are concerned because they suspect this fire was the work of an sore. An arsonist. This is the 11th fire since wednesday. It started around 4 30. Thats when firefighters got the call. At one point it became a two alarm fire after the roof of the building collapsed a couple in their 70s lives in the century old home and firefighters say it wasnt their smoke alarm that alerted them about this fire but their neighbors who saw the fire, went up, banged on the door, woke the couple up so they were able to escape the fire unharmed. We immediatey knew it was an older couple. We just rushed up. See if they were savior not. The house was really old. It was like any moment it may cause the entire. Reporter firefighters will announce later today a 10,000 dollar reward for information leading to the arrest of the arsonist. Investigators are on the scene. The fire captain said they havent found evidence of accelerant used but they know this fire started on the outside of the home. They have ruled out the possibility of this being electrical. Again because of where this fire happened, this location is the same neighborhood more or less where the other fires have happened. That is why they believe its arson. Again, later this afternoon they will announce a 10,000 dollar reward for information leading to the arrest of the person responsible. And here a look at other top stories. Main in his 60s died in a house fire at walnut creek. It happened on hilltop crescent a woman inside managed to escape. And the bodies of two were found in a burping house in palo alto. Investigators arent commenting about the cause of death but they say the fire started in the kitchen about 7 15 last night. There is no word on what may have started either house fire. And at least 11 people in the bay area have died from the flu. The father of a 23yearold victim said his sons death proof that everybody should get the flu shot no matter their age. The growing demand for the shot has created a shortage at some clinics. Police in campbell are looking for a man who allegedly assaulted a woman walking home. It happened early thursday morning at about 12 30. The victim, a woman in her 30s had just left a 71 when a man grabbed her and started to sexually assault her. The man pulled out a gun and threatened her but she fought back. She was able to burn the suspect on the left side of his face with a cigarette she had. Police say the victim broke free from the suspect and flagged down a car passing by as the man ran. He is an African American male in his mid to late 30s, six feet tall, with a heavy pound, weighing about 250 to 300 pound. Police are releasing video in hopes of identitying a driver involved in a hit and run a video is from december 31st december 31st. Police say it shows a white van hitting a woman. Officers say the woman was forced in to the vans path after first being hit by another vehicle. We are hoping someone in the public may have information on the where abouts of the driver and of the van and if they do contact San Francisco police. The two individuals in the vehicle that hit the woman before the van did have been identified and are facing charges the victim had serious injuries but is recovering. Police many oakland are trying to find if a street race led to a crash that killed a teen girl and injured another the coroner has identified its girl who died as a 17yearold Katelyn Benson. They say that the car she was in hit a pole shortly after midnight a witness said that several people tried to jump in and help. It was smashed. It was pretty bad. It was a pretty bad accident. Car was still running. They didnt want it to blow up a lot of people, you know, broke in, opened the hood, just took a spark plug wire off so the car could shut off. Another 17yearold who was a passenger in the car is in the hospital with critical injuries. We have been in the steady dry pattern for the last few weeks if not longer. Lets turn to rosemary because change is on the way. Clouds this morning. We are warmer but in to the afternoon we will see a flip and temperatures will be on the cool side with cloudy conditions and eventually some rain a look there a sweeping view of downtown oakland you can see the mix of clouds, low clouds, midand high level, patchy fog reported, visibility a bit compromised for some. Santa rosa reporting patchy fog. You can see its a very gray start. We are mainly dry. We will be dry for the next couple of hours and then the rain will move our way. You can see it north of us, some areas right around picking up returns but have you to get farther north to see the light rain. We are with plenty of gray and dry conditions. I will back this way up and show you the center of circulation off the coast there. West of washington and you can see how the front sweeps through washington, oregon and now into Northern California. As this moves our way, itll begin to fizzle out just a little wit. Areas over the north bay will get the best opportunity of scattered rain and as it slides south it starts to die out. Ly show you what i mean. Watch your neighborhood. Here we are this morning as we get in too nine, ten, it starts to shift over santa rosa, into areas near marin. Into 11, 12 it starts to slide in to the central bayh long i 80, martinez, richmond getting light scattered showers along the pen slam this is lunchtime. San jose is still dry. Into one or so its now shifting into the south bay. Look at how it falls apart. We have a few scattered showers reports over. Perhaps over areas like mount hamilton. Maybe a few sprinkles over santa cruz, by late afternoon, by dinner time we are drying out. Notice the few scattered showers in the north bay. Its mostly cloudy. You could see a few lingering showers in to the evening hours but most of us will be dry and thats it. We are done. 41 degrees in santa rose a53 in oakland. Low 40s concord. Mid40s for san jose and again into the afternoon. We will be cooler, right about where we should be. 56 in santa rosa this afternoon. 55 for San Francisco, 56 oakland. Upper 50s haywood. Into the south bay temperatures in the upper 50s for most 59 san jose, 60 degrees morgan hill and gilroy a look at your bay area weekend, always in view showing you we are partly cloudy for tomorrow, we are dry, slightly warmer, we could wake up with that patchy fog, we will have moisture in place at that point. Monday, tuesday, wednesday, a big warm up, back in the forecast, upper 60s for the afternoon. All the way through midweek wednesday with dry conditions. I will have a look at how much rain i expect we will get out of the system moving through today. The 49ers prepare for tomorrows game. The medical staff is making sure players are ready to go. However, we do know my family on the plane died quickly and paynelessly. A dedication to honor a Vallejo Police officer killed in the line of duty a section of highway 37 is now named after him. He was shot and killed while chasing a suspected bank robber in 2011. Vallejo police and residents raised 6,000 for a new road sign. A judge is considering a lawsuit filed by the mother of a girl who remains were found at the bottom of a well linked to the speed freak killers case. Two years ago a death row inmate lead investigators to the remains of five victims. A man is now in custody on suspicious of abusing and killing a puppy in front of his 4yearold daughter. He has been charged with felony cruelty as well as child endangerment. A former marine in New Hampshire is back with his dog because of a determined vet and a community a week before Christmas Molly was hit by a snow plow. Developing news in san jose, firefighters are still at the scene of another suspicious fire a century old home caught fire just before 43 30. This home is located ono east saint john and 17th street in the town town area. Flames and smoke brought own that roof this morning. Its believed it was the 11th suspicious fire started by a suspected arsonist in the neighborhood since wednesday. They had the potential to kill or seriously injury innocent people. The major problem. We have been lucky so far. Actually we the residents of san jose have been lucky that nobody has been injured, you know or nobody has died. An elderly couple in their 70e was able to escape safely. Neighbors who spotted the flames banged on their door to get them out. Ktvu obtained this video showing one of the other suspicious fires being set. It shows a suspect walking up to a home on 28th and san antonio street a fire erupts secs later a passing driver saw the flames and ran to the door to warn the people inside. At noon a Firefighters Union will announce a ten thousand dollar reward to help them find the suspected fire bug. The bodies of two were found inside a Burning House in palo alto. Firefighters were called to the home on the 900 block around 715 last night. Witnesses describe seeing flames 20 feet in the air. Authorities arent releasing the victims identities identities. However investigators say they do believe they know where that fire started. At this point we have no indication what the cause or origon of the fire was. The Fire Department did tell us i should add that they believe pleiomery that the fire started in the kitchen of the residence. Investigators are going back to the scene today because it is a deadly fire as standard procedure. The Arson Task Force will investigate along with the police and Fire Department. A house fire in walnut [inaudible] a home caught fire around 9 30 last night. It took firefighters about 30 minutes to knock it down. The body of the victim was found on the second floor. The woman who was in the house escaped safely a former neighbor said the couple live in the home are loving people who look in dogs dogs and people with no place to live. 11 people have died of the in the area and the father of one hopes the public will learn. The victim was then hit by a taxi but that cab driver stopped and called for help the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released and its unclear why he was on the ramp. Also, police in san jose are investigating the latest homicide. That happened before 2 30 this morning. Police found the body of the male victim on the corner of a street. He had been stabbed. No word on motive or suspect and anyone with information is asked to call police. Police are investigating a shooting outside of a wendys restaurant. There was a physical confrontation between a group of men when when the victim went outside police say the gunman shot him and then fled. The victim was transported to the hospital with life threatening injuries. Police are not commenting on what specifically may have led to that dispute. Allie is live in downtown san jose where she talked to the people just a short time ago. Reporter the fire is out and there is just a few firefighters left here packing up some of their equipment. This fire happened between four and 4 30 this morning. Fire septemberors are going to be on the scene for a while. This home is on east saint john and north 17th in the downtown san jose area the reason why investigators have a lot of work to do is they believe this fire is the work of a serial arsonist. This is new video we just got in from a neighbor showing flames shooting from the roof of the home a couple in their 70s live here. They were not hurt but the closest fire station is about a thousand feet away from this home. Firefighters say that it was a jogger running through the neighborhood who was the first person to notice the flames, that jogger ran down to the fire station and rang the doorbell to alert firefighters about what was going on. The elderly couple who live in this home were saved by their next door neighbor. Those neighbors we talked to a short time ago said they banged on the front door and came close to breaking the front window to warn the couple. We have to wake them up. It was it was fast. That the fire was just you know fast. We have to do whatever we can real fast. We are banging hard, like kicking. Finally they opened and we got them out. That was the main thing. The elderly couple escaped unhurt with their pet cat and a few family photograph albums. This is the first suspicious fire in the downtown san jose area since wednesday thats why fire investigators will be out for most of the day gathers evidence. They believe the fire is suspicious because of where the fire started, the time and the location. The fire captain said it follows the same pattern of the other suspicious fire that have happened in downtown san jose this week. San Francisco Police are releasing video in hopes of identitying a driver involved in a hit and run collision. This Surveillance Video is from december 31st and shows a white van hitting a female pedestrian. Officers say the woman was forced in to the vans path after being hit by a different vehicle. Rehopeing that someone may have information on the where abouts of the driver and of the van if they do please Contact Police anonymously. The two in the other vehicle that hit the woman first have been identified are facing charges. The victim is recovering recovering. We obtained this video showing the moment when is a 6 yearold was struck and killed by a car on new years. You can see the suv disappear behind a sign and then back up. It appears to be when the girl was killed. The girls mother and brother were also hurt. The driver of the van was working for the Ride Share Service uber but didnt have a fare at the time. Ill line up the time line and have a look at the numbers, coming up. New this morning, a suspected arsonist may have struck again in downtown san jose. Just a few hours ago, flames shot from the room of a century old home. Investigators say this is the 11th suspicious fire in the area since wednesday. They think the People Living in the home behind me were very fortunate to get out when they did. The fire has been out for a while. Cleanup crews have arrived. They are in the process of boarding up this home here. This is a centuryold victorian house on east st. John and north 17th street in the downtown san jose area. You can see its heavily damaged and the roof completely collapsed during this fire. Fire investigators are going to be out this morning, gathering evidence, because they believe this fire was the work of a serial arsonist. This is the video of the flames, provided to us from a neighbor around 4 30 this morning. This was a twoalarm fire. A couple in their seventies live in the home, but they did escape unharmed, thanks to nair next door neighbors. The neighbors noticed the flames outside, ran over and woke the elderly couple up. We had to get them out. They are kind of an older couple, so we got them out. Reporter again, investigators believe this fire was deliberately set and that makes this fire the 11th suspicious fire in the downtown san jose area since wednesday. San jose Firefighters Union will announce today a 10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of that serial arsonist. Hes becoming more brazen. He has to know that theres video out there that has him in it. It clearly shows him, if its him, or one of the individuals. If this is his fire, hes brazen enough to go ahead and do this fire around the same time, around the general area with a fire station a thousand feet down the street. Reporter this is the video hes referring to, Surveillance Video obtained by ktvu yesterday that shows the suspected arsonist walking up to a home at 28th and san antonio in san jose. That was just minutes before a fire started at that location. Now, again, investigators believe this mornings fire has a lot of the same characteristics of the other suspicious fires that have happened in the downtown area recently. So firefighters are going to be offering a 10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of that serial arsonist. For now, the couple who lives here has been displaced. They have been put up by the red cross. They have been helped by the red cross. In the meantime, the cleanup crews are boarding up their home. Live in san jose, allie rasmus, ktvu channel 2news. The bodies of two people were found inside a Burning House in palo alto. Firefighters were called to the home on the 900 block of embarcadero road around 7 15 last night. Witnesses describe seeing flames 20 feet in the area. Authorities are not releasing the victims identities or where their bodies were found. However, investigators believe they know where the fire started. At this point, we have no indication of what the cause or origin of the fire was. The Fire Department did tell us that they believe preliminarily that the fire began in the kitchen of the residence. Investigators say they are going to go back to the scene today and because this is a deadly fire, standard procedure has the Santa Clara County Arson Task Force investigating, along with both Palo Alto Police and fire. The house fire in walnut creek claimed the life of a man in his sixties. The home caught fire around 9 30 last night. It took firefighters about 30 minutes to knock it down. The body of the victim was found on the second floor. A woman who was also in the house did escape safely. A former neighbor tells the walnut creek newspaper that the couple living in the house are loving people, who took in dogs and people who had no place to live. A pedestrian was hit and killed in san jose on the jackson avenue onramp to interstate 680. Chp says the male victim was walking southbound around midnight last night when he was hit by a vehicle. The driver of the vehicle did not stop. The victim was then hit by a taxi cab, but the cab driver stopped and called for help. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released. It is still unclear why he was walking on the ramp. New this morning, police in san jose are investigating the citys latest homicide. It happened sometime before 2 30 this morning. Police found the body of a male victim on the corner of almondon road and stone court. Police say he had been stabbed. So far, no word on a motive or suspect. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call police. Concord police are investigating a shooting outside a wendys restaurant. Officers say there was a physical confrontation between a group of men at the wendys on monument boulevard around 6 00 last night. When the victim went outside, police say the gunman shot and killed him and then fled. The victim was transported to john mere hospital with life threatening injuries. Police are not commenting on what may have specifically led to that dispute. Time now, 9 06. By our count, 11 people in the bay area have died so far from the flu. Now, the father of one of the youngest victims hopes the public will learn from his sons death. Get your flu shots, because it is attacking young people more so than they expected. Cliff walker was too shaken to appear on camera, but said he believes his 23yearold son matthew was more susceptible to pneumonia and other complications because he had a busy work and social life and his Overall Health was run down. If you demand that much from your body, you have to take some care of it. And young people tend, tend not to think about that. Matthew walkers father says his son was first diagnosed with flu and pneumonia at Kaiser Hospital in santa rosa the day after christmas, but he was sent home to recover. He returned by ambulance the next day, unable to breathe and he suffered cardiac arrest, then went into a coma for two weeks. Doctors say they do not believe the flu season will match the 2009 pandemic, which killed more than 200 californians there. Are three dozen deaths in california so far. Right now, samesex marriages in the state have been suspended while the decision to allow them is appealed. The state has already said it will not recognize the marriages that have already been performed. Well, yesterday, the Justice Department announced that for federal purposes, it will honor those marriages. These families should not be asked to endure uncertainty regarding their status as the litigation unfolds. In the past few weeks, more than 1000 couples applied and got marriage licenses, but now those couples say plans for an actual ceremony are on hold. In this mornings weekly address, president obama is calling 2014 a year of action. With congress or on my own, and with everyone willing to play their part, that action should begin by extending Unemployment Insurance for americans who were laid off in the recession through no fault of their own. The country added 74,000 jobs last month, the fewest in three years. President obama says the success of the country depends on the success of the economy and the ability of the American People to make ends meet and provide for their families. Well, the city of richmond could soon offer the highest minimum wage in the region. On tuesday, the city council will discuss three different proposed rates, ranging between 11 and 15 an hour. If the city Council Chooses to put the measure on the November Ballot, voters will have the chance to vote on the increase. Right now, San Francisco has the highest minimum wage, at 10. 74 an hour. The states minimum wage is 8 an hour. Well, foster farms has been given the green light to resume operations at a plant in the Central Valley that was shut down this week because of cockroaches. The plant is in livingston, south of modesto. The Agriculture Department shut it down on wednesday and then the company underwent a deep cleaning operation, after inspectors found cockroaches. Now that foster farms has an action plan, Officials Say it can reopen today. The plant is foster farms largest facility. Luxury Department Store Neiman Marcus says its customer information has been hacked. They say customer debit card may be compromised. Officials dont know how widespread the concern is. So far, only shoppers who qood their cards in stores seem to be affected, not people who bought items online. The Security Breach at target is much worse than originally shot. The retailer now estimates the number of victims at 70 to 110 million. Target had first disclosed last month that the credit and debit cards of 40 million shoppers were affected by the breach. But an investigation into the theft exposed more victims and revealed that other private information was also taken, including names, phone numbers, and email addresses. Phishing emails that will purport to be from target and try to extract Financial Information from the recipients. Target is offering free credit monitoring for all of its customers, but experts say thats a thin layer of protection that typically will not stop Identity Theft. Target has apologized for the breach. Shoppers can sign up for a year of credit monitoring. The service will include a free credit report. It also includes daily credit monitoring, plus Identity Theft insurance. Mr. s also access to personalized assistance. Target says the signup period has been extended for three months, and more details will be released next week. Well, San Franciscos Ride Sharing Program uebber is cutting down the price of its service, but not for long. The company has dropped its base rate to 3, plus 1. 50 per mile. Uber says it is an attempt to increase market share, but according to an email sent to Company Drivers, the lower prices could be gone within a few weeks. The company says lower rates have sacrificed almost all of its revenue in San Francisco. San franciscos yelp could soon be disclosing identities of several anonymous reviewers. The Business Owner of a Carpet Cleaning service in virginia is claiming seven negative reviews were not written by actual customers. An Appeals Court in virginia has now ruled the identities of those reviewers must be released to determine if their claims are true. There is something to be said about being anonymous and protecting yourself and having the right to say, or criticize. Like there is that side. But theres also the libel side. Are these people actually customers . Yelp released a statement saying it did not believe the ruling would affect other states and is planning to appeal. The announcement will come just hours after the 11th suspicious fire in downtown san jose since wednesday. Allie rasmus is live at the scene of the latest fire, where an elderly couple escaped unharmed, thanks to their neighbors. Allie . Reporter well, claudine, the fire is out and firefighters are gone. But right now, this is the scene of a big cleanup taking place. There are cleanup crews who have arrived and are in the process of boarding up this home. But this is also a crime scene. Fire investigators will be here gathering evidence because they believe this fire was the work of a serial arsonist. This is video from a neighbor, showing flames shooting from the roof of this centuryold victorian home on east st. John and north 17th in the downtown san jose area. The fire started sometime between 4 00 and 4 30 this morning. A couple in their seventies live in this home. They were inside at the time the fire started, but they escaped unharmed, thanks to their next door neighbors. We spoke to the father and soon who work next door, who noticed the flames outside their neighbors home. They ran over to wake the elderly couple up. When we talked to the father this morning, he became a little emotional when he thought of what might have happened, had he not stepped in. I feel good, though, yeah. They are my neighbors. Reporter again, investigators believe this fire was deliberately set and that makes this fire the 11th suspicious fire in the downtown san jose area since wednesday. San jose Firefighters Union is going to announce later today a 10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of that serial arsonist. We need the publics help on this. We need them to Pay Attention to anything. They may know who this person is. Might be their neighbor, might be family member, might be someone they are acquainted with. That will help us. Reporter now, this is Surveillance Video obtained by ktvu yesterday that shows the suspected arsonist walking up to a home on 28th and san antonio, minutes before a fire broke out at that location earlier this week. Investigators believe this mornings fire has a lot of the same characteristics of the other suspicious fires that have happened in this area recently, and thats why they are offering this reward, 10,000, for information. Live in san jose, allie rasmus, ktvu channel 2news. San Francisco Police are releasing Surveillance Video in hopes of identifying a driver involved in a hit and run collision. This Surveillance Video is from december 31st. Police say it shows a white van hitting a female pedestrian ataturk and leavenworth. Officers say the woman was forced into the vans path, after first being hit by another vehicle. Were hoping that someone in the public might have information on the whereabouts of the driver and of the van. If they do, please contact San Francisco police anonymously. The two individuals in the vehicle that hit the woman before the van did have been identified and are facing charges. Police say the victim suffered serious injuries, but is recovering. Police in oakland are trying to figure out if a street race led to a crash that killed one teenage girl and injured another. The Coroners Office identified the girl who died as 17year old Caitlin Benson from san jose. Investigators say the car she was in slammed into a pole along maritime street at 7th, shortly after midnight friday morning. Witnesses say several Good Samaritans tried to jump in and help. It was smashed. It was pretty bad. You know, it was a pretty bad accident. And the car was still running. They didnt want it to blow up. Lot of people, you know, broke in, opened the hood, just took a spark plug wire off so the car could shut off. Another 17yearold girl who was a passenger in the car is in the hospital with critical injuries. Police in campbell are looking for a man who allegedly assaulted a woman as she was walking home. It happened early thursday morning, about 12 30 a. M. Police say the victim, a woman in her thirties, had just left a 7eleven when a man grabbed her from behind and started to sexually assault her. Officers say the man pulled out a handgun and threatened the woman, but she fought back. She was actually able to burn the suspect on the left side of his face with a cigarette that she had. Police say the victim broke free and flagged down a car passing by as the man ran away. They released this sketch. Hes described as African American, in his mid to late thirties, 6 feet tall with heavy build, weighing 250 to 300 pounds. The search continues for the 28yearold yahoo programmer who was reported missing on new years day. Yahoo has even hired a private investigator to try to help find luke arduni. Police say he is 5 10, between 150 and 170 pounds, brown hair, brown eyes and the number 42 tattooed on his throat. He was last seen wearing a hooded sweatshirt and red converse sneakers. Lets recap some of the top stories this morning. Investigators believe an arsonist struck in downtown san jose. A centuryold victorian caught fire just before 4 30 this morning. Neighbors assisted in safely getting out the older couple that lived there. At noon today, firefighters will announce a 10,000 reward to help find that arsonist. The Santa Clara County Arson Task Force, along with the palo alto fire and Police Departments will investigate the circumstances surrounding a house fire on embarcadero road. The bodies of two people were found in the home. Their identities have not been released or how they died. Authorities are not saying if that fire is suspicious. They say it is customary to bring in the Arson Task Force to investigate any deadly fires. At least 11 people in the bay area have now died from the flu this season. The father of a 23yearold victim says his sons death is proof that everyone should get vaccinated, no matter their age. With the growing demand for vaccinations, there are flu shot shortages at some clinics and pharmacies. Well, after weeks of searching, the wreckage of a plane belonging to a family from san jose has finally been found. San joses Software Engineer dale smith was piloting the plane with four of his family members on board when it vanished back on december 1st. Search teams say there are no survivors and a severe storm may delay Recovery Efforts. In a statement posted online, smiths wife wrote the plane is in pieces and buried in the snow. They have not yet found all the parts. However, we do know my family members on the plane died quickly and painlessly. Well, ufc middle weight fighter and bay area native will be holding a fundraiser to support the survivors of typhoon haiyan. Mark nunoz will host the event t has been more than a month since typhoon haiyan devastated the philippines. About 6000 lives were lost in the typhoon. Nearly 1800 people are still missing. A new study out of uc davis shows smoke from wildfires could impact your health. The study looked at wildfire exposure in monkies and found those who breathed in the smoke were more vulnerable to serious diseases. The study was done in 2008. Wildfire smoke can cause higher ozone levels, which are linked to asthma, lower birth rates, and heart problems. Were now learning where Whitey Buller Bulger is being held. He is at a high security area in tucson, arizona, part of a larger facility that holds 1700 inmates. Bulger is serving two life sentences, plus five years. It is not clear whether he will serve that entire sentence in arizona. A dedication to honor a Vallejo Police officer killed in the line of duty. A section of highway 37 has now named the james kapu memorial highway. He was shot and killed while chasing a suspected bank robber in 2011. Vallejo police and residents raised 6000 for a new road sign. A fellow officer says kapus courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten. A federal judge is considering a lawsuit filed by the mother of a girl whose remains were found at the bottom of a well, linked to the socalled speed freak killers. Joan shelly claims the San Joaquin County Sheriffs Department mishandled the remains of her daughter with heavy equipment, when they were found at the bottom of the well in 2012. Her daughter, joanne hobson, was 16 when she vanished in 1985. Two years ago, death row inmate Wesley Shermantine led investigators to the scene of the bodies. Yesterday, 32 inmates put on caps and gowns and received their High School Diplomas or geds. They all took part in the nations only behindbars Charter School. Thanks to a determined vet and the generosity of a community, a former marine in New Hampshire is being reunited with his dog. Just one week before christmas, molly, an australian shepherd was hit by a snow plow. Her owner brought her to the vet, suffering from four broken legs.
