Welcome to mornings on 2. We unfortunately start with this the scene in san mateo, where part of El Camino Real connects to highway 92, its shut down, as you can see. A number of Police Responding there as they investigate a deadly accident involving a pedestrian. It happened in the last hour and our ktvu news crew is there on the scene speaking to investigators. Their gonna they are gonna tell us what the investigators are saying and the effect on traffic. Back to you. Im pam cook. Im dave clark. Sal and the team will have all of the details on that. But steve will tell us about the weather. Very cold air. Thick fog for some. Its roaring down the coast. Some of it is filtered in for some areas. Higher clouds moving into the north. This is the leading edge of our big change. 30s and 40s. Its cold now. It will just get even get colder. System is up in the Pacific Northwest giving them rain and snow. Some of this might make it into extreme Northern California. I think maybe mendocino will probably the extent of anything. The cooler air rye ifers. It will still arrives today. It will still be mostly sunny. Some very thick fog. If you dont have the forks its probably just clear and cold. Or mostly clear. It will be cool today. Today will be in the 60s. I do want to mention some of the other commutes were seeing here. 580 is pretty slow. We had some earlier problems on 580 and on 680. If this is your commute, you need to get on the road early. Its more backed up than it normally is as you drive through. If you are driving over to castro valley, 880 southbound or 238 at 880, slow traffic there. Slow traffic in union city. Not as bad as it normally is. Lets go to some live pictures. Westbound bay bridge traffic looks okay. Its about a 15minute delay. The fog is an issue this morning. Also this morning were looking at 237 if you are trying to get into the valley, already some slow traffic. A lot of people are back as you can see on this monday after the holiday. Were following breaking news on the peninsula where a pedestrian has been hit and killed by a car near one of the offramps to highway 92. Ktvu channel 2 reporter, janine de la vega tells us southbound El Camino Real is now shut down. Janine . Reporter yes, the southbound lanes of El Camino Real between 17th and 20th is closed. So that San Mateo Police can investigate this accident. Another closure i want to tell you about is the southbound offramp to el camino from highway 92 is also closed. More police are arriving and the coroner has come on the scene. The accident happened at 6 20 this morning. We have limited information. What we do know is that a car did hit a pedestrian that was near that offramp. Again, corey nir has arrived coroner has arrived. Were not sure if the deceased is a man or a woman. Were waiting for a Police Spokesman to arrive on the on the scene. I cant see the car that hit the pesh. Not sure if the driver stayed on scene. They are investigating. Were trying to talk to investigators to find out what happened. This certainly is affecting traffic. A playstation 4 is the focus of a deadly shooting now under investigation in San Francisco. Police say it started with an internet ad and ended with gunfire. Ktvus Tara Moriarty is outside of the hall of justice with new information from the police chief. Tara . Reporter yeah, we just were in contact with him. He said the department is actively pursuing leads and hopes to have the person in custody soon. We know officers have been canvassing the neighborhood where it happened. They are hoping that that video do lead to an arrest. All of this happened around 3 30 this afternoon yesterday. The victim and his girlfriend drove to the Bayview District to sell mr. Playstation 4 to someone who answered an online ad. Sources say the couple was accosted by a gunman who demanded the system. Even when he surrendered it, the 22yearold victim was shot several times and killed. The couple of advertised hoping to make a couple hundred dollars profit. But meeting a stranger through online ads holds obvious dangers. I dont know if its unique to playstation or anything else. People do robberies. I dont know why this one transpired but well do all we can to investigate it. Reporter after he was shot, the victim and his girlfriend ended up a few weeks away on bayshore boulevard near highway 101. The woman was not hurt but the man died at San Francisco general hospital. The victims puppy was found alive in the car. Coming up at 8 00ing we expect to 8 00 we expect to talk to police to see exactly where they stand in the investigation. Police say a man was shot to death at about 10 00 last night outside a home on coolidge avenue and School Street. Officers are now asking any witnesses to come forward. Do believe there may have been some sort of vehicle involved. What the involvement was at this time, we do not know. Its the 84th homicide of the year in oakland. Time now 7 07. A couple of small earthquakes shook the southern edge of Santa Clara County this morning. 3. 7 quake hit about 2 05 this morning about five miles south of gilroy. The usgs actually downgraded it from an initial 3. 9. Then there was a 2. 5 in the same area about a halfhour later. Some residents said, yeah, it woke them up. But so far theres no word of any damage or injuries. The agender teen set on fire while aboard a bus last month may be back at school as early as this morning. We have new information about the man who was lit and killed by a car friday night near the dumbarton bridge toll plaza. Hes 29yearold louise angulo. Police say he was walking on the Southeast Side of the on the east side of the bridge. Police say alcohol was not a factor for the driver. Its still not clear why the man was walking along the bridge. The San Francisco examiner reports the unions are pursuing possible legal action. They could file a lawsuit soon or go on strike. Federal investigators will examine the data recorder of a new york commuter train to fick out what caused it to de figure out what caused it to detail killing four people. Now, northbound traffic is getting through. But as we see, traffic is being kind of funneled down as you approach the 92 exit. This is because of a fatal crash involving a pedestrian and a car and a lot of San Mateo Police are on the scene along with the county coroner doing the investigation right now. Lets take a look at the live picture of the bay bridge toll plaza. It is backed up for about a 15 to 20minute delay. Nothing more than that. The fog seems to have lifted a little bit. Better visibility getting across into San Francisco. If you are driving on the freeways on castro valley, 580 looks good. 880 a little bit slow as you head down towards hayward and fremont. We have a fatal collision between a car and a pedestrian in san mateo. Thats been there now for almost an hour. Southbound El Camino Real which is what you are seeing right here is being tie verted on qnd diverted on westbound 92. Northbound traffic is getting through. This is going to be here for a while as with any fatal collision. The investigation is rather long. One of the ways you can get around it. If you want to get on the freeway, you can just go up to alameda and use that. I would recommend that to get on the freeway. If you are just driving for a few blocks around the scene. You can use palm avenue. Just make a left on 17th. Make a right on palm. That will take you past toward the closure or you can use south delaware street. Both streets will put you parallel and you can go around the problem and april void this. You can see avoid this. You can see people are causing a little bit of a traffic jam on e. C. R. Here. Bay bridge toll plaza is backed under all the way out to the macarthur maze. In most of the lanes, its backed up for a 20, 25minute delay. I want to look at the maps in Contra Costa County. You can see a lot of red on the maps. Pockets into richmond. Highway 4 is not bad. But 680 is slow from concord to walnut creek. You can see highway 4 persistent slow traffic through the construction zone. Lets go back to the desk. A warning from police in vallejo after three atm robberies in one week. Alex savidge is in the area now to tell us the mistakes some victims are making out there. Reporter well, Vallejo Police say inative inattentive atm users are forgetting to close out their transactions before they walk away. We just saw a woman do that a short time ago. That can leave an opening for thieves who will sneak in and they are able too take out money according to to take out money according to police. The same senator has played out here at banks in vallejo. The latest crime, yesterday. At this bank of america on sonoma boulevard. This is where a woman was robbed after she left her account opened. Police say the victim was taking out money around 2 30 in the afternoon when she noticed the man at the atm next to her. The woman started to walk away, then saw that man move over to the same atm that she had been using and the victim realized that she had not closed out other transaction. She tried to stop the man but police say he grabbed the woman by the neck, ined her tense a pinned her against the wall, took out crash from her account and ran off. If you step away before that closes out, that opens an opportunity for someone that would want to prey on your inattention. Police dont believe the same person is behind all three of these similar crimes that have happened in the past week in vallejo. Of course, during the holidays this morning to stay cautious is extra important. People say police, i should say, say that a lot of people are taking out a lot more cash to do Holiday Shopping. Bank of america says they know about the scam, they are working with Law Enforcement on ways to handle the problem. New this morning, police say a 2yearold who fell into a vallejo creek is making a strong recovery and off life support. Family members say the toddler fell into the water at blue creek while fishing with his grandmother on saturday. Rescue crews rushed the child to the hospital in Critical Condition but now hes likely to make a full recovery. They credit the childs age and the temperature of the water with saving his life. If the water is cold enough, then it also puts them into a state of shock. It actually preserves the cardiac and brain function. Rescuers say if the child had not been wearing a white shirt, it would have been much more difficult to spot him in the murky water. The stench of smoke permeates the hall weaus of an Apartment Building an after a fire that started in the garbage room. The building is on continental way. Smoke got if through a garbage chute. What happened, was the garbage can caught on fire somehow. Fire spread up the garbage chute into the third and second floors. The chief says most of the smoke was on the third floor so the first crews on scene looked there for the fire. The second crew arrived and helped out. No one was hurt. Reports that an offduty firefighter helped pull people to safety on interstate 580. Heres video of the tow truck mauling away a burned out volkswagen beetle. The car went up in flames near the highway 24 connector. The chp says the fire did block the connector but no one was hurt. This week Sonoma County supervisors are expected to build a park in honor of a teenaged boy shot and killed by a sheriffs deputy. A memorial with flowers and pictures was created for 13 yearold andy lopez near the spot where he was shot. Lopez was killed when the deputy mistakenly thought the toy gun he was holding was real. The press democrat reports that supervisors are mulling over a few ideas crud including a park in the moreland avenue neighborhood where lopez grew up and died. Supervisors are due to talk about the issue tomorrow. Federal investigators will examine the new york trains data recorder to try to determine what caused it to derail, killing four people and injuring more than 60 others. Chris welch is in new york with the latest on the investigation. Good morning, chris. Reporter well, good morning, pam. Ntsb investigators have been on the scene throughout the night. They are still here today. What they are doing is trying to put some of the cars on the tracks upright again. But still no answer as to what caused the train to go off the tracks. This jarring image of a passenger train turned on its side cant compare to what passengers inside the train saw and heard. I heard a lot of crunching and grinding. I started to see stars in front of my eyes and i thought is this the end. Reporter nobody walked way uneffected. This will be a trying thing for them to get back on the train. Reporter investigators from the ntsb will review data from event recorders recovered from the scene. Similar to what would be found on an airplane. The data from the boxes will give us insight into what was going on at the time. Well combine that with other information, with other activities. Reporter a locomotive was pushing seven passenger cars around a 30mileanhour curve when the whole train left the tracks. Investigators dont know how fast it was going. The mta will be cooperating fully with the ntsb in this investigation. The mta wants to know as much as anyone what happened with this accident if theres a lesson to be learned because safety is job one. Reporter passengers trying to get home from the thanksgiving holiday, are expected to get by on nearby train lanes or being taken by bus. Donna smith, james lovell, James Ferrari and one other individual was killed in this accident. You can use delaware street or go a short distance on palm avenue. That would be better. Avoid this area. And 92 nearby which is what you see up there, thats crowded. As george turns to the left, you can see how El Camino Real is a big mess heading southbound. I would recommend just avoiding it and getting on delaware instead. Lets take a look at some other pictures. Highway 4 is slow in antioch but 680 is slower from 242 as you drove to walnut creek. We also have slow traffic i want to get rid of that. How you can help them and santa this Holiday Season. State game wardens now have a nonlethal option for relocating mountain lions that somehow wander into residential areas. The of two cubs in Half Moon Bay last summer prompted this new law. Senator jerry hill introduced a bill allowing game wardens to partner with nonprofits to safely capture and relocate mountain lions, whereas in the past, they were only allowed to shoot and kill them. They always have to look at Public Safety first. This gives them the opportunity to make other decisions. The new law takes effect takes effect january 1st but the department of fish and wildlife has changed its operating procedures. So far, seven mountain lions around the state have been safely moved. A former Walnut Creek Police officer has won the use of the amber alert. This will allow the chp to issue an amber alert for any endangered person, even if the person the child is with has custody. This change comes after an amber alert was not issued for a 5yearold girl was issued in 2005 when the mother threatened to harm her. They were found later dead in a murdersuicide. The u. S. T. , caltrain and muni are reporting any delays. Were also following a very tragic accident in san mateo. This is breaking news on the peninsula. A pedestrian has been hit and killed by a car and parts of El Camino Real have been shut down. Ktvus janine de la vega is live on the scene with more information on what happened. Janine . Reporter sal, you can see that traffic is really tied up here in the southbound lanes on El Camino Real. Now the only way you can get on 92 from El Camino Real is the southbound lanes. Thats if you just want to go westbound on 92. El camino real is closed from borel avenue to 20th because of this deadly accident. Police say a car hit a man on El Camino Real near highway 92 at about 6 15 this morning. He died at the scene. The Police Closed off the road to investigate and gather evidence. They are calling this a hit and run because theyve determined that two vehicles were involved in the accident. There appears to be two vehicles involved. One vehicle that remained here at the scene. The other vehicle that fled the scene, swhoi a white buick. It was last seen fleeing southbound on El Camino Real. Thats all we know at this point. As were gathering more information about the investigation. Reporter that white buick was last seen traveling southbound on El Camino Real from 92. At this point, we dont have a license plate number. Again, police are still trying to gather evidence. We dont know if that white buick is the car that hit the man or if its the other car that stayed that was responsible for hitting the man. All we know is that both vehicles were involved. Again, as far as the closures go, southbound El Camino Real ramps both heading in the eastbound and if you if you want to go eastbound or westbound are closed. You can see this traffic tieup on El Camino Real. Police are advising you avoid the area. They dont have an estimated time on when they are gonna open everything back un. Its sounding like his girlfriend saw the whole thing. Tara moriarty is live with new information. Reporter weve just discovered that the victims were traveling in a rental car. Other than that, we dont have much information on them, other than the fact they were from hayes valley. We did talk to chief suhr this morning and he says his department is actively pursuing leads and they hope to have a suspect in custody soon. This happened at 3 30 yesterday afternoon. Broad daylight. The victim and his girlfriend drove to the bayview in their suv to sell their playstation to someone who answered an online ad. Sources say the couple was accosted by a gunman. Even when he surrendered it, the 22yearold victim was shot several times. Drove away from the scene as soon as they could. And contacted police and they called an ambulance. The victim and his girlfriend ended up bayshore boulevard near highway 101. The woman was not hurt but the man died at San Francisco general hospital. Their puppy was found inside the this vehicle okay. They were hoping to make a few hundred dollars profit on the popular gaming system. We understand that officers have canvassed the neighborhood where this happened. They are looking at Surveillance Video hoping that could lead to an arrest. Back to you. Oakland police are searching for a suspect in a deadly overnight shooting. Police say a man was shot to death on coolidge and School Street about 10 00. It was oaklands 84th homicide of the year. Part of El Camino Real is shut down until they finish the investigation and traffic is being diverted onto westbound 92 which, by the way, is putting more pressure on nearby highway 92. If you want to avoid all of this, you might want to use delaware as an alternate or even make a left on 17th and go down palm for a few weeks. Avoid this bottleneck. As you can see, its causing a lot of slow traffic. On 92, especially westbound, it is going to be slow. Lets take a look at the bay bridge toll plaza. Thats backed up for a 25 minute delay. Its not gotten better. Its still slow. Its a little foggy in some of the areas around the drive. Steve and i have steve and i have been telling you about the fog. You could be driving in perfect weather and then be driving in fog. The bay area roads dont look too bad but 580 has not been good from livermore to dublin. It stays slow in fremont. Give yourselves plenty of time. Were getting new developments about the fatal crash in san mateo. You can see that southbound El Camino Real, which is what you are looking at here, is being diverted ontario westbound 92 because of this fatal collision about two and a half hours old new. Police were looking for a vehicle that took off, a white buick. But that, according to a tweet from the San Mateo Police department, has been located. And they are now investigating. So two cars were involved. One car took off. The Police Department did locate the second vehicle. Janine de la vega will have more on this coming up in just a few minutes. Theres also a warning from police in vallejo after three atm robberies in aing with. Criminals are going after atm viewers who failed to close out their transactions. That can leave your account open. Police say this same scenario has played out three times. In fact, we watched a short time ago, its one woman who made that exact same mistake at this bank. Im not stupid. I was boesch here. [laughter] reporter yesterday, around 2 30 in the afternoon, police say a woman was robbed at this bank of america on sonoma boulevard. She failed to end her atm transaction and began to walk away. Thats when she noticed a man walk over to the same atm she was using. The victim realized she had not closed out the transaction. Police say a 2yearold who fell into a vallejo creek is making a strong recovery and is off life support, fully functioning. Family members say the 2year old fell into the water at Blue Rock Springs creek saturday afternoon while fishing with his grandmother. Rescue crews rushed the child to the hospital in Critical Condition and now say he is likely to make a full recovery. They credit the childs age and the temperature of the water with saving his life. If the water is cold enough, then it also putting them into a puts them into a state of shock. It preserves the cardiac and brain function. Reporter rescuers also say the child had not been wearing a whoot if the child had not been wearing a white shirt, it would have been much more difficult to spot the child. A very close call with a garbage fire started last night in an apartment, in the garbage room of the timber lane apartments in belmont. The building is on continental ray off ralston avenue. The battalion chief said most of the smoke was on the third floor. The first crews on the scene looking for the fire up there. A second group came, they helped the first group and discovered the fire was on the ground floor. They put it out. The car went up in flames on the 580 flyover on the connector. The chp says the fire blocked the connector road but no one was hurt. This week Sonoma County supervisors are expected to consider building a park in honor of the teenaged boy shot and killed by a sheriffs deputy. A memorial was created for 13 yearold andy lopez near the spot where he was shot. Lopez was killed when the deputy thought the gun lopez was carrying was a real weapon. Supervisors are mulling over a few ideas including a park where lopez grew up. The supervisors are expected to discuss the issue tomorrow. The numbers are in for thanksgiving holiday arrests. Federal investigators will examine the data recorder of a new york commuter train to figure out why that train detailed filling four people and injuring more than 60. Yesterday, a locomotive was pushing seven passenger cars around a curve when the train julyed the tracks.
