We have a great afternoon but this morning patchy dense fog around the bay area, along the coastline a few high clouds, its a cool start a look at the temperatures as well as that fog into the afternoon temperatures a lot like yesterday. Today is a spare the air day. We will check in on the air quality for your area and in the extended forecast a big plunge in temperatures coming as well as the slight possibility possibility of a few scattered showers. You have heard of black friday, today is Small Business saturday. Its a National Campaign to encourage people to support local businesses. We are live in oakland where many mom and pop stores will be offering those special deals. Reporter a day after black friday when millions of americans packed shopping malls and big box retailers Smaller Stores want to remind people they need their business too. Here you can see signs on the stores, encouraging people to support local businesses, some of them will offer promotions and discounts like you see at any store but with extra benefits. Here they will offer free parking at metered spaces in oakland, this saturday and every saturday until the end of the year in order to encourage people to come through the doors of some local businesses here. Small business saturday is a yearly tradition started by American Express four years ago. Its always the saturday after black friday. One of the reasons why there is a big push to shop local is because the economic benefits it gives to local communities a Small Business owner in sacramento summed it up. Small businesses dont have the great advertising budget that the big chains and Department Stores and Big Box Stores have. Small business saturday focuses people on shopping locate cal. It lets us pull together as family owned businesses and promote ourselves. That is on top of the nearly 20 increase in online sales on thanksgiving day compared to last year. Black friday store sale numbers wont be out until later today but the National Retail federation predicts that holiday sales will rise nearly 4 this year. Yesterday Bay Area Stores were filled with lots of shoppers at San Franciscos union square. One said that for a lot of people black friday shopping is like a competitive sport. Even though crowds of people were out yesterday some shoppers said it wasnt as busy as they expected it would be. Expects predict bay area shoppers will spend more this season than last year. New, the dunbarton is open after the third deadly accident a man was hit and killed last night around 10 20. He was reportedly walking across the lanes just west of the toll plaza. As officers started stopping traffic in both directions a driver going westbound hit the man followed by three other vehicles. All vehicles that were involved pulled over. We believe we have everybody involved identified and they are all cooperating. The sergeant said the driver also play a key role in the investigation in totmans death. Chp did not know if he was under the influence. Less than 24 hours later two other pedestrians were killed on interstate 80. The first was identified as a 32yearold Nathaniel Robinson senior he crashed on westbound 80 early yesterday morning. When he tried to acrossa walk across the freeway he was hit. Then later in that morning yesterday the chp said a woman was hit by a big rig in the eastbound lanes of 80 in San Francisco. Investigators say she was trying to walk across the free wagnerway. She died at the hospital. Her identity has not been released. North korea has released a new video of a detained man. He apologizes for crimes committed during the koo rean war. The 85yearold has been held for more than a month after being taken off a plane at the end of i private tour of the country. In the video he apologizes for crimes against the government and asks for forgiveness. The government is known for forcing false apologies from detainees and the video could pave the way for newman to be released. The man was last seen wearing a Long Sleeve Shirt and a camo baseball cap and may be driving a white honda. Today is the deadline for the Affordable Care website to resolve its problems. Problems have hit the site since it was launched on october first. Users have run into several issues including trouble getting access to program information. The president and website Officials Say that the vast majority of people who visit the site today will have a better experience and should not face the system crashes and error messages before. However, critics remain keptal. The website is still not delivering what the American People want which is answers to their questions about cost and benefits. Officials say by this weekend the site should be able to handle 50,000 visitors at one time. About 200,000 have signed up through the programs under the Affordable Care act which is below expectations. The target for the first year was 7 million. The ntsb said the plane went down near saint marys village last night. It was reported missing earlier in the day a baby and the pilot are among the dead. Troopers and ambulance rescued six. The cause of the crash is under investigation. The wreckage of a missing Airline Flight has been found a day after that plane was reported missing. Officials say that the wreckage was found in a National Park in a remote terrain. All 33 and crew were killed can. There were no americans on board. In scotland people are still trapped offer a Police Helicopter crashed into a pub. One person was killed and the death toll is expected to rise. The number of people still trapped in the rubble is not clear. The head of the Scottish Government has called the tragedy a black day for scotland. A nurse is going to the philippines to help with the relief effort. January sandoval will help with the relief effort. The death toll has risen to 5,000 560. More than 1700 are still missing. Investigators in san jose are still looking into a Deadly Police shooting of a man wanted in a triple stabbing, carjacking and chase. The man stabbed three people at an apartment behind the Regional Medical center. Then car jacked a van and led police on a chase. That chase ended ono kirkland drive when investigators say a kevin peters shot the man as he tried to ram a police car. The man was 42 but his identity has not been released. A car wash fundraiser is being held today in oakland in honor of a child shot to death two years ago. The child was murdered after three gang membered fired on a group of people. Three people have been charged with murder. The car wash starts at noon. Proceeds will go to a scholarship for his siblings. And a Police Officer has made more than 100dui arrests this year. The officer is personally responsible for about a third of the departments drunk driving arrests in 2013. He is a beat officer who patrols nights and weekends and has a special interest in taking intoxicated drivers off the road. His 100ths arrest game early thanksgiving morning, a driver going the wrong way on a one way straight. 25, third dui, she has two convictions. The way it works out i have the time to do it and i have the desire to do it. The officer made his 101st arrest the next morning. He said hitting 100 was a personal goal but he is not done yet. A mother still looking for her sons killer and is also still pleading for information on what is now the fiveyear anniversary of his death. She said her son was shot in the back in Golden Gate Park in 2008 and died on the way to the hospital. The case was never solved but every november she drives san diego to lay flowers on the path where he was shot. She also hires a plane to pull a banner reading justice for brandon. Brandon and hopes someone will come forward with information in the case. This is to small of a city. Someone knows. And less than 24 hours earlier two other pedestrians were killed on interstate 80. The first victim was identified as a 32yearold nathani el robinson senior. He crashed a car yesterday morning and when he tried to walk across the freeway near solano avenue several cars hit him. Two drivers stopped and cooperated, the chp said the others did not stop. And then a woman was hit by a big rig in the eastbound lanes of interstate 80. She was trying to walk across the freeway. She was taken to the hospital where she died. Still, experts are predicting that bay area shoppers will spend more this Holiday Season than they did last year, thanks to the improving economy. New this morning, the dunn barton bridge is open following the third deadly accident involving a pedestrian on a bay area freeway in just 24 hours. The man was hit and killed on the freeland side of the bridge around 10 20 last night. He was reportedly walking across the lanes west of the toll plaza and the chp was trying to stop traffic in both directions when this all happened. A driver headed westbound hit the man and then three other drivers did as well. We believe we have everyone involved in the collision identified and they are all cooperative. The sergeant says those drivers will play a key role in the investigation into the mans death. The chp does not know whether or not that pedestrian was under the influence. Less than 24 hours earlier, two other pedestrians were also killed, this time on interstate 80. The first victim was identified as 32yearold nathanael robinson, sr. The chp says robinson crashed a gold buick on westbound 80 in richmond early yesterday morning, about 12 30. But then he apparently tried to walk across the freeway near solano avenue and thats when several cars hit him. Two drivers did cooperate with police, but they also say others did not stop. About five hours later, the chp says a woman was hit by a big rig in the eastbound lanes of interstate 80 in San Francisco. Investigators say she was trying to walk across the freeway near 7th street south of market neighborhood. The woman was taken to the San Francisco general hospital, where she died a short time later. Her identity has not yet been released. This morning, Vallejo Police continue to investigate a deadly shooting. It happened around 5 00 last night on carolina street in vallejo. A man was found shot to death inside an apartment. The victim has not been identified. Anyone with information about the gunman is asked to call Vallejo Police. Police in walnut creek are asking for the publics help trying to find a bank robber. They released surveillance picture from yesterdays robbery at a bank of America Branch on rossmore parkway. The suspect is a white man in his mid20s with a light brown goatee, last seen wearing this long sleeve brown shirt with a camouflage baseball cap. He may be driving a white honda with tinted windows. Proceeds will be sent to the red cross. Four people have been killed in a Small Plane Crash in southwestern alaska. The ntsb says a cessna 208 went down near st. Marys village last night. It was reported missing earlier in the day. An infant boy and the pilot are among the dead. Troopers at an air ambulance rescued six survivors. The cause of the crash is under investigation. We are also learning more this morning about a tragic Helicopter Crash at a pub in glasgow, scotland. Officials say the pilot and two Police Officers in that helicopter were killed and five people have been found dead inside that pub. 14 others inside were hurt. The pub was packed last night on the eve of st. Andrews day, scotlands official national holiday. The head of scotlands government has called it a black day for scotland. North korea has released a video of a north palo alto man. In the video, he apologizes for crimes committed during the korean war. He has been held for more than a month, after being held on a plane following a tour of the country. North korea is known for coercing false apologies from detainees and analysts say the video could pave the way for newman to be released. Walmart employees across the country are demanding better pay and benefits from the retail giant. [ protesters ] yesterday in chicago, Police Issued at least 10 citations for people blocking the road during a walmart protest, one of many across the country. Other demonstrations took place in virginia, massachusetts, florida, maryland, and here in the bay area. Five protesters were arrested at the san leandro walmart, part of a large group chanting outside the store on davis street. The average walmart employee makes 11. 20 an hour. Protesters say it needs to be well above that, especially in the bay area. Thats a poverty wage. They are having to take on second jobs, having to use food stamps, other public assistance to get by. Walmart released a statement, saying the cozy wages fall at the higher end of the Retail Industry and the company says most of its employees make more than minimum wage. Black friday shoppers at a kohls store in Sacramento County are not happy after they say they were denied special sale prices. They say they were told the black friday sale ended while they were still waiting in line. Many of them said they were in line for hours long before the sale prices were set to expire. They kept telling us that they were going to honor the sales until 2 30. Imagine staying in line for two hours, with three kids running around. First time here, my last time here. There you can see the flash of light. It happened about 2 30 yesterday morning, as black friday shoppers were waiting to cash in on deals. Witnesses say the fight started inside a store and then spilled out into the mall. There was a baby right in the middle of it, like in a stroller. It was crazy. Everyone wants that sale. Just the season brings out the craziness in people. The malls general manager says security did stop the fight and then both women were escorted out of the mall. Police in arlington, texas say they believe a group of raider fans are responsible for a brutal attack of a cowboys fan on thanksgiving. The two teams played each other at at t stadium thursday night. Arlington police say after the cowboys win, witnesses told them they saw a man in a cowboys jersey get beaten by four men in raiders clothing. The victim was found unconscious, but is recovering this morning in the hospital. Arlington police are now asking more witnesses to come forward. Well, the Golden State Warriors hope to bounce back after losing last nights game with a tenth of a second left on the clock. She also hires a plane to pull a banner reading justice for brandon, in the hopes that someone will come forward with information. This is too small of a city. Someone knows, and i just like to come out here and jog everyones memory that this has not been solved and im not going to give up. A 100,000 reward is being offered for any information leading to an arrest. A car wash fundraiser will also be held today in oakland in honor of a toddler shot to death two years ago. Prosecuters say 23monthold hiram lawrence, jr. Was murdered after three gang members fired on a group of people shooting a music video in a west oakland parking lot. The three suspects have been charged with murder. Todays car wash starts at noon at 78th and mcarthur boulevard. Proceeds will go to a scholarship for hirams siblings. Its become a tradition to make bart riders feel safer on busy Holiday Shopping days. Last night, passengers were escorted to their cars at the west oakland bart station. The program involved two bart officers and Six Community service agents. The escorts are part of a Community Initiative that started three years ago. You can get rides really fast and they will be gone, because its dark. Well, it will be dark. Black friday was the only day this month bart police offered the service, but on december 20th, which is another big shopping day, at least three bart stations will offer the escort service. Bay fair, fruitvale and west oakland stations. To an update on the labor dispute between bart and its unions, barts unions say their legal teams are continuing to work on language for a possible lawsuit over the contract approved by barts board of directors last week. The board removed the provision granting six weeks of paid family medical leave. Bart says the clause was included by mistake. The Union Leaders say it was there all along. They are calling on the board vote illegal. Unions tell us they are still weighing their options. Bart is putting longer trains in service this weekend to accommodate holiday travelers. The pittsburg pay point line. San Francisco Police are warning Holiday Shoppers to stay alert after a sharp jump in smartphone robberies and thefts. Police handed out these flyers on black friday, warning shoppers about using their phones in public. Police say shoppers should not let their guard down once off the street. Smartphone thefts are a growing problem on muni and in parking lots. Its pretty dramatic. Police say a realignment of the states prison system could also be possible for the rise in smartphone thefts. Hes personally responsible for about a third of the departments drunk driving arrests in 2013. Airports across the bay area are preparing for yet another busy travel day tomorrow. Many people are expected to head home from those vacations. Military ignored chinas demands and flew b52s through the zone. The wreckage of a missing Mozambique Airlines flight has been found a day after the plane was reported missing. Reporter in 2008, steve set his mind to something that seems absurd. Reporter he decided to climb the 2200foot route up el capitan in yosemite. Almost unachievable wall to surmount. Reporter and make a movie about his ascent. Oh, and he was never a climber, he has a fear of heights, and he has cerebral palsy. Insane. Reporter a good ablebodied climber can do the climb in two days. How far did you get on the first day . 400 feet. Reporter using a pully system he created, steve says he pulled himself up about 2 inches at a time and he camped on the rock face five straight nights. On day four, the challenges multiplied. I passed out. I was hallucinating. I was dehydrated. I went into hypothermic shock. Reporter yet steve knew he had to finish, because he had made a promise. Kids that i told them, doing this for. And i couldnt quit. Reporter his Foundation Takes disabled kids into the wilderness to show them whats possible in their lives. On day 6, steve made it to the top. When he got to the top and i realized he was safe, i fainted. Reporter steves wife elizabeth directed the movie. The climb and the movie are meant to raise money and awareness for the wompler foundation. But i asked how the kids he promised reacted to his reaching the top. Steve couldnt answer. But his wife said the kids now see steve as a champion. These children can put a face to their optimism, to their own hope, and their own self expectation. Thats what he did in climbing the mountain. A pizza hut manager in indiana who says he was fired for refusing to open on thanksgiving day has been offered his job back. The manager wanted to give his employees the day off. He says he was told to write a letter of resignation after refusing to agree to open the store on thanksgiving day. They are good people. After the story gained nationwide attention, pizza huts corporate offices released a statement saying they made a serious error in judgment and offered the manager his job back.
