A pedestrian was hit at the corner of south wedgewood and this is one of the main streets in the area. There is an investigation going on. It looks like that could be the car involved because its been sitting there for a while. Chp are taking pictures and measuring the area. The person who has injured has been taken away to the hospital. Lets take a look at the Livermore Valley. Look at all of the red road sensors. We have an accident in fremont, southbound 80. Back to the desk. San Francisco Police are investigating a fatal crash, where a driver struck and killed a man in a wheelchair overnight. The octavia onramp to 101 is now open for the morning commute. Katie utehs has been on the scene since 3 00 and is witnessing the dangers firsthand. Reporter good morning. Well, you combine speeding cars with bold pedestrians and cyclists and you get this dangerous intersection. Heres what happened overnight the man in the wheelchair was coming from about where im standing trying to Cross Octavia. As he goes to the crosswalk, a man heading towards 101 driving from octavia struck him in the intersection and the man and his wheelchair end up landing on the freeway. You can see what the scene looked like when we arrived around 3 00. San Francisco Police investigators photographed the intersection and loaded the wheelchair into a police truck. Police say the man in the wheelchair died at the hospital after being hit around midnight. Theyve not released any other details about him. The driver of the car involved stayed on scene. Spwee spoke with him briefly. He did not want to talk on camera. He was wearing what looked like a Security Guard jacket. He seemed shaken but coherent. Investigators tell us he was not in custody. They were still working to determine if he was speeding and who had the rightofway. Commuters who crossed intersection every day witnessed many close calls. Its pretty busy. If cars want to turn right, they often turn right, even though theres no right turn to get on the freeway. Reporter this intersection is such a problem. There are Traffic Cameras all around. Investigators say they will be reviewing the video to determine exactly what happened here overnight. Now, separate from the collision that happened overnight, as we mentioned, this intersection is dangerous with righthand turns. You can see the new photo enforced sign thats been put in place. The cameras went live starting november 1st. There will be a 30day grace period. We have new information about a stabbing late last night in santa rosa. It happened shortly before midnight outside of the internet cafe on guerneville road. Police say a man and woman stabbed each other during a heated argument. Both victims were taken to the hospital for medical treatment and are expected to survive. Investigators believe the violence stemmed from a lovers spat. Today, the family of a santa rosa teenager fatally shot by a Sonoma County sheriffs deputy will file a federal lawsuit against the county. The controversial shooting of andy lopez happened two weeks ago in santa rosa. The 13yearold was shot and killed while carrying a toy gun that looked like an assault rifle. The civil rights lawsuit claims the Sheriffs Department encourages the use of deadly force even when theres no threat to public safety. Now, the Sheriffs Department says this investigation is still in the early stages and says the lawsuit is premature. The city of sunnyvale may be getting tougher gun control laws if voters pass a new measure tomorrow. Its a controversial issue. Janine de la vega is in sunnyvale to tell us more about whats going on out there. What people are saying. Reporter dave, whenever the issue of gun control comes up, people have passionate opinions. One man says he thinks more regulates regular lates are needed regulations are needed. This measure would require anyone whose gun is lost or stolen to inform police within 48 hours. And it requires those who sell ammunition to log and track sales. A local gun store is against the measure. Opponents say it will not stop shootings. Instead, it will generate lawsuits against the city. We found residents who plan to vote tomorrow and found differing opinions. I plan to vote yes, on measure c. I think from the perspective of being a parent protecting my kids. They make it impossible for the good people to have a gun. The good people who have a gun could be at risk from these rules if you read it, you will see what i mean. If you have a magazine, if you if you have a stolen gun, you report it. Reporter the nra is threatening to sue if this passes, saying it infringes on a gun owners right. The push is peeg lead by the mayor who wants to protect regulated by the mayor who wants this. A new study from uc berkeley raises concerns about the outsourcing of airport workers. According to the study, the share of airport workers outsourced to contractors grew from 19 in 2001 to 26 by 2011. During the same period, airport workers saw their hourly wages fall by an average of 15 . The airport workers declining pay faiths, efficiency, safety and security. The study was financed by the Service Employees international union. San jose police say they are making progress in the fight against gang violence. The department has budgeted over a Million Dollars for gang suppression this fiscal year which included putting more officers on the streets during high crime periods during the day. From january through september police say there were eight gangrelated homicides. Six fewer than the year before. Police say there have been 193 gangrelated crimes through september. Thats compared to 228 last year. 7 10. The Santa Clara County board of supervisors may soon comply with requests to detain undocumented criminal suspects. Four years ago, the county agreed to hold suspects so that immigration agents could arrest them for possible deportation. But in 2011, the county passed a law saying they would only hold the suspects if the government reimbursed them for detention costs. On tuesday, the board will talk about whether that law should be changed. A suspect who was shot by suspect police in the Marina District is due to appear in court today. And unload that semiautomatic weapon, killing that tsa agent and injuring three others. We do know that paul ciancia is still in the hospital in critical condition. Hes under 4hour guard. Ewas 24hour guard. He was shot four times, including in the mouth. Hes unresponsive. One of the things agents are looking at, the better letter that was the better found inside the duffel bag. In the note, he apparently described how he had this hatred for tsa agents and how he wanted to kill them. Additionally, investigators are talking to ciancias family. Hes from new jersey. He moved here to Southern California about a year and a half ago. Apparently, had texted his father moments before he got in the car to l. A. X. , talked about how he was unhappy and something that he told his father made his father call the chief of police in pensville, township, new jersey who then called police in l. A. , the l. A. P. D. And by the time officers arrived to ciancias house here in Southern California, he had already gotten into a car on his way to l. A. X. They have also interviewed ciancias roommate. One of them roommates. One of them drove him here to l. A. X. Before the shooting. That roommate apparently was not involved and did not know the intentions of paul ciancia. Still unresponsive at this point. The tsa agent, the 39yearold tsa agent, that was shot and killed, we understand that there will be a vigil tonight. He leaves behind two children, the two other agents injured, theyve been treated and released and a 29yearold High School Teacher here in Southern California, hes still in the hospital. He was shot in the leg and he has to undergoing another surgery for those injuries to his leg. But paul ciancia has been charged but the u. S. Justice department for murder. Weve seen cameras astalled in the bay area installed in the bay area and around the country, but more are being installed here. Cameras will be installed at four middle school and Elementary Schools this week. November vau toes novatos superintendent says this is to discourage damage and overall keep kids safe u the district says all of the cameras will be installed along the exterior, hallways and entrances and not in classrooms and bathrooms. About a dozen will be installed today. We spoke to the schools principal who said shes noticed vandalism and breakins during her four years here. While it is meant to be a deterrent, she wishes the money could be sent somewhere else. If we could take that money and put it towards personnel, teachers, classroom supplies, everything we could impact we could impact the kids on a more personal basis and that would be better than the cameras. Reporter she says safety will always be a top priority. The district says its spent more than 28,000 to install 48 new cameras. The district said last year they spent about 177,000 at security cameras. As we take it back out here live, School Districts within the county have installed cameras or are considering them. Tonight, the Cloverdale City Council will address the safety of an intersection where two boys were hit on halloween. Its also the same crosswalk where a woman was hit and killed in july. The intersection is healdsburg avenue and south cloverdale avenue. On halloween, the two boys ages 12 and 14 were in the crosswalk when hit by a pickup truck. The driver said he did not see them. At tonight eight meeting, the city will tonights meeting, the city will discuss installing fourway stop signs. Police are hoping surveillance photo, this one here from a mcdonalds restaurant, this know toe was taken on photo was taken on halloween in the mission district. Investigators say it shows a man using a credit card belonging to 23yearold paulos os in neft paulo netto. He said he was in trouble and some people were fouling him following him. He was hiding from those people. Now, netto has been missing for a week. His family is now here in San Francisco. In 90 minutes from now, a man accused of killing a federal investigator is due in an oakland courtroom for a preliminary hearing. Police found her body almost after a week being reported missing. Investigators say the two dated briefly 20 years ago after they met in the santa rita jail. At the time, the suspect was behind bars. I spoke with the medical Examiners Office about a half hour ago and learned that the man was in his 30s. They are still working to positively identify him and notify next of kin. We may learn his identity as early as later this morning. Overnight, was traveling on market. Trying to Cross Octavia when a driver traveling struck him in the crosswalk, knocking both the man and his wheelchair all the way onto 101. Now, from this video you can see the damage caused to the wheelchair from when we arrived around 3 00 this morning. San Francisco PoliceDepartment Investigators photographed the scene, then used a truck to remove the heavy custom wheelchair from the roadway. The driver of the car who hit the man stayed on scene as of this morning, police said he was not in custody. The collision happened around midnight. We spoke with the driver briefly. He did not want to talk on camera. From what i could see he was wearing a Security Guard jacket. He appeared shaken but coherent. Police have not said if the driver was speeding or who had the rightofway. Speeders were not surprised to hear about the deadly crash. Even bicyclists run the red light. Its a busy intersection. Reporter activists have worked to improve this intersection for years. Barricades and Traffic Cameras have been put up. Investigators will be reviewing video to determine what happened leading up to this mornings deadly collision. Today the family of a santa rosa teenager fatally shot by a sheriffs deputy will file a federal lawsuit against the county. It happened two weeks ago in santa rosa. 13yearold andy lopez was shot and killed while carrying a toy gun that looked like an assault rifle. The civil rights lawsuit claims the Sheriffs Department encourages the use of deadly force even when theres no threat to public safety. The sheriff avenue Department Says this investigation is in the early stages and says the lawsuit is premature. We have new information about a stabbing late last night in santa rosa. It happened around midnight outside the internet cafe on guerneville road. Police say a man and a woman stabbed each other during a heated argument. Both were taken to the hospital. They are expected to survive. Investigators think the violence stems from a lovers spat. New information about the man accused in the deadly shooting at l. A. X. The roommates of 23yearold paul ciancia say he texted his family on friday morning and said he was going to commit suicide. His Family Called Police to do a welfare check. But they arrived 45 minutes after ciancia had left for the airport. Right now, hes heavily sedated in a hospital after being shot four times by police. Hes being watched by tan armed guard by an armed guard. Following shooting, the tsa is releasing information about how many guns are brought into airports. Just one week before the shooting, 39 guns were seized at airport checkpoints nationwide. Of those guns, 32 were loaded. Besides guns, the tsa has intercepted knives, stun guns, even grenades from being taken on planes. The tsa says most passengers say they forgot the weapons were in their carryon bags. The Birmingham Airport is reopen after a bomb squad. Around 4 00 yesterday afternoon, an employee found a note in the bathroom saying there was a bomb in the airport. The threat turned out to be false. Passengers were allowed to turn about two hours later. 8 06. Tomorrow, local elections will be held and in one south bay city, a controversial gun control proposal is on the ballot. The measure prohibits ammunition magazines that can hold more than ten rounds and requires those that sell ammunition to log and track sales. Sunnyvale is a we feel its a very safe safety. You have received new information within the past halfhour. Reporter the as front office said there are no plans for the team to move here to San Francisco, move into at t park. They stay they are planning to stay put here in oakland. Certainly, thats the kind of news that as fans were hoping for. We talked to a lot of them this morning. They were certainly disappointed as they hear about the possibility that the team could ditch the coliseum to come over and share the giants digs here in San Francisco. But according to a report in the San Francisco chronicle, its possible the two teams might both play their home games here at at t for the next two seasons. The issue here is that the coliseum officials have not been able to reach a shortterm Lease Agreement with the as. The league is playing hard ball demanding that the Coliseum Authority give the as a two year lease extension and not a longer deal. The report suggests that a shorter lease would give as owners more flex tibility if they wanted to move the team down to san jose or even to another city outside of the bay area. Diehard as fans tell me it would be sad to see the team move into another ballpark. I dont want them to move but if they are gonna move, i would rather it be in San Francisco than san jose. They will invaul the camera install the cameras at four middle school and Elementary Schools. The other schools will have theirs installed throughout the week. Hamilton, San Jose Middle School and Hill Education Center will also have cameras. Novatos superintendent says part of the reason to install the cameras is to secure school sites, discourage the damage of property and overall, keep kids safe. The district says all cameras will be installed along hallways and corridors an entrances and not in classrooms and bathrooms. Here at the middle school, they expect to have at least 12 exterior cameras installed. We spoke with a parent who said safety is a concern. When it comes to privacy, he says he doesnt mind having the cameras around. [inaudible] its not just vandalism. But theres actual breakins and loss of school propertior destruction of school property. Sometimes it can be, you know, graffiti on the walls. Its also the same crosswalk where a woman was hit and killed in july. The intersection is healdsburg and south cloverdale boulevard. On halloween, the two boys, ages 12 and 13, were in the crosswalk when they were hit by a pickup truck. Driver said he did not see them. They suffered broken bones and are recovering. Happening today, in about 30 minutes, a man accused of killing sandra coke is due in an oakland courtroom for a plim hearing preliminary hearing. Randy alana could get life in prison ifth kd. San Francisco Police investigators say the man in the wheelchair died at the hospital shortly after being hit around midnight. I spoke with the medical Examiners Office about an hour ago and learned the man was in his 30s. They may release his identity. The driver of the car who hit him stayed on scene. The front passenger sideshows damage from the impact. We spoke to the briv we spoke to the driver briefly. He did not want to be interviewed on camera. He as of this morning was not in custody. Police have not said if he was speeding or who had the right ofway. People say the deadly collision is another example of just how dangerous it can be. Im not surprised at all.
