And the unions will return to the bargaining table in three hours. You have to they may be close, claudine, right, if they are still talking . Reporter well, thats the hope. The good news, they are still talking. But everyone stood out here waiting on the edge of this seat trying to figure out if they can get the deal. When they came out, there would be no deal but there would be no strike. When you talked to both sides about where it stood, you got frustration and disappointment but there was talk about Significant Developments. They say this bodes well for finally getting a deal done. Hopes were dashed before midnight. Im deeply disappointed about the way the day went. Reporter but the union says their disappointment wont mean a strike at least not yet. If theres agreement by sunday at 12 01, there will be a strike. Reporter which has everyone asking how close are we to a deal . B. A. R. T. s chief negotiator says he still has a proposal to present. Theyve asked us not to and we have not. Reporter who asked you not to . The unions. Reporter if it is, it will be with new eyes. Several are involved and engaged. B. A. R. T. s gm is expected to sit down at the table today. The unions are calling that a very significant development. The other people at the table do not have the authority to get a deal done. And we want her at the table because she does. These are not the worst of times. Its the will. If you get stuck on the ideological difference and you will you will never reach an agreement. Transit is expected to pick up much of the extra burden as much as they can, basically. A. C. Transit will run regular buses from the east bay to San Francisco and to the peninsula. There will be additional buses depending upon the availability of extra vehicles and drivers. The San Francisco bay ferry will add service in case of a walkout. Even though some people get this coming monday off, for columbus day, the ferry is preparing to launch extra boats and extend service to handle increased demand. And the chp says all h. O. V. A bizarre crash scene this morning in San Francisco. A driver smashed into several parked cars. It happened at 10th avenue and geary in the Richmond District. The owner says he heard tires screeching this morning and the loud crash at around 4 00. If you take a look behind me, the scene pretty much clear now, give or take a patrol car who is here on standby. A lot of damage on the roadway. A lot of debris, i should say, on the roadway, like broken glass and debris pieces from the damaged cars this morning. If we go to video. Again, this happened on 10th and geary and from what we understand the woman driver was traveling on geary and 10th when she somehow lost control and hit a honda crv. The impact was so great, it forced the vehicle to land on a honda parked behind it. And there was damage to a car parked behind that. The driver was in a blue mitsubishi when it happened. For the car owners whose cars were affected, they say they are shocked. I heard a really loud crash and i had i had a suspicion that it was my car. I just like oh, man. I dont want to wake up right now. It was at 4 00 in the morning. The cops rang my doorbell. Whats still unclear if the driver was under the influence of any kind or if there was mechanical failure on the car. We do know she was taken to San Francisco General Hospital for unknown injuries. But police at the time say she was walking and talking immediately after the crash. What were hearing from neighbors and the drivers may have hit a garbage truck somewhere on geary beforehand. And perhaps she panicked and crashed into the parked cars. If we take it back out here live, that driver taken to sf general for unknown injuries and there were no known injuries to others this morning. Definitely a bizarre incident here in San Francisco. The press democrat is reporting that the woman died from a head injury after falling off a cliff. She was 18 years old, a cal poly student, in the city for spring break. This is the latest incident involving a student falling from a cliff at that location. The 21yearold u cu. Santa barbara a 21yearold Uc Santa Barbara student died last year after falling and at least three students have been killed since this death. Joseph carroll is scheduled to be arraigned on murder charges for the death of alashya cara dine. He was arrested in caradine. He was arrested in texas. Another man has been arrested and charged with actually pulling the trigger. 7 10. Police are looking for the publics help finding the person who shot a federally protected sea bird in capitola. The Santa Cruz Sentinel reports a plif a Police Officer found this bird and took it to a group. A bullet is still lodged in the birds shoulder. You can see it in this xray, wildlife experts are trying to decide whether to perform surgery to remove it. Police say it could be hard to find the person responsible because its possible the bird was shot in another location before it being found in capitola. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Capitola Police department. A potential gain for the california state fair in sacramento could mean a huge loss for the Sonoma County fair. Next year, the sonoma fair is scheduled to run from july 24th to august 10th. The attack happened in august in more than a dozen proregime villages. According to the report, 190 civilians were killed and more than 200 ears were ab others were abducted. An International Group that was formed to eliminate chemical weapons has won the Nobel Peace Prize this morning. The organization for the prohibition of chemical weapons or opcw currently has inspectors analyzing or destroying chemical weapons in syria. You can see people jammed on the boats and buses just to get between the east bay and San Francisco. Passengers say another walkout would be a lot worse since the last strike happened over the 4th of july holiday. A b. A. R. T. Station agent and his wife have been convicted in the scheme to sell used b. A. R. T. Tickets on ebay. The two were given five years probation and ordered to pay more than 48,000 in restitution. Nelf was accused of collecting hundreds of lowvalue tickets that were destroyed to be destroyed. Investigators say he added value to them at work and his wife told them on ebay. The police say this attack resulted in the 71yearold woman actually having her hip broken. Weet have still photos of the suspects. Were we have still photos of the suspects. Were working on getting walmart Surveillance Video which shows the suspects robbing the victim and it also shows the suspects in the store making a motion with his arms as if he were targeting the victim and using an imagine airy rife in his imaginary rifle in his hand to do that. Here is the male and fee spal suspects female suspects. They went after a gold chain the 71yearold woman was wearing. The video shows the suspects following her and her family as they shopped inside the walmart on osgood road. When she exited the store, one of the suspects grabbed her from behind trying to rip the necklace off. During the struggle, he slammed the victim to the ground and dragged her until the chain came off. The female suspect waited in a getaway car which police say appears to be a silver or gray fourdoor hyundai. After the attack, they sped off and when officers arrived, they found the elderly woman in a lot of pain. She roo he choired hospitalization and surgery. The suspects are described as being between 17 and 25. The male is light and latino between 57 and 510 with a medium to stocky build. The latina is believed to be between 52 and 56. Police say they desperately want to find the audio difficulties] reporter if you recognize any of the suspects or have any information on the case, they would like to hear from you. You can give them a tip anonymously. Janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. 7 37. Oakland police are investigating a deadly shooting last night in the so Sobrante Park neighborhood. It happened around 7 30. The unidentified victim was found in the street. He died at the scene. Police are questioning witnesses. So far no arrests have been made. Police in concord are investigating a latenight shooting last night. It happened on darlene drive near mayette avenue. Police say when they arrived, they found the shooting victim. He was taken to the hospital and was told and were told hes recovering. Students from San Francisco city college are protesting what they call unfair and bias sanctions against California Community colleges. In july, the accrediting commission decided to withdraw city colleges accreditation. Its set to go into effect next july. California attorney general Kamala Harris has filed a lawsuit against one of the states largest forprofit colleges. It accuses them of lying to students and investors about job placement rates to students. The largest campuses are even accused of paying a temp agency to hire graduate to boost placement numbers. They operate heeld and wyatt tech colleges. Three foster farm chicken plants are allowed to stay open. The usda inspectors are promising intensified sampling for at least the next 90 days. Federal frill Officials Say the salmonella has made 300 people sick with most of those cases here in california. This after a student reported seeing a gunman a man with a gun yesterday morning near sweeney hall. That prompted police to lock down the buildings wow. Officials say the driver shot himself while driving. Chp officers witnessed the crash early wednesday morning after notation the van after noticing the tire was missing after noticing the van was missing a tire. The coroner said the driver died of a gunshot wound to the head. The death has been ruled a suicide. 40 students from the university of delaware were hurt. A tractortrailer ran into their bus. It happened in the town of bear last night, about 40 miles southwest of philadelphia. State troopers say the tractor trailer ran a red light, hit a bus, which was filled with Sorority Members on their way to a party. None of those students suffered lifethreatening injuries. A big east bay marijuana bust has taken 4 million worth of the drug off the street and puts 13 people in jail. Hayward police say they made the arrest yesterday after raiding is 1 games after raiding 11 homes. Officers found more than 1700 Marijuana Plants and most of the homes were rigged with illegal power lines. A 3yearold is in stable condition after being rushed into surgery at oaklands childrens hospital. Police say the childs father brought the toddler to the hospital last night with life threatening injuries. The father told police the child had been responsive since being picked up from daycare. Thats where the police tasted him and he was arrested. Mark zuckerberg just spent 30 million buying up four houses near his home in palo alto. One of the homes sold for more than 14 million. The San Jose Mercury news reports he bought the houses after finding out a developer planned to buy one of the properties and then advertise it was close to mark zuckerberg. A new independent investigation is planned into the death of Lynne Spalding whose poddy was found in a body was found in a stairwell at San Francisco General Hospital. She was admitted with an infection on september 19th. She apparently left her room two days later and went through an emergency exit to an exterior stairwell. Her body was found in that stairwell one floor below her room 17 days after she went missing. The sheriffs department, hospital and state department of Public Health are also looking into the case. 7 56. In monterey county, the personnel information of 145,000 people may have been hacked and exposed in a security breach. The county says hackers from overseas broke into a computer that has the names, the addresses and the Social Security numbers of residents. This affects people who get cal fresh, medical, cal works and foster care payments through the county between 2002 and 2009. Well, this weekend, more than 150 volunteers say they are gonna clean up the streets of oakland. They are gonna be cleaning up areas between lake merritt and 51st avenue along international boulevard. They will be picking up Illegal Dumping and cleaning up graffiti. There was some frustration, disappointment. You saw really emotions run across the gamut. But the unions did say there are three very specific reasons that they do believe a deal could be reached. Those reasons have to do with who is now getting involved and engaged. Lawmakers, the b. A. R. T. Board, and b. A. R. T. s general manager, people who have been handsoff getting handson. These are Significant Developments. They dont happen in a vacuum. They happen through a lot of discussion. Thats what we saw today. Thats huge. A commitment to reach an agreement weve not had. Reporter a commitment that follows a lot of disappointment. It was just before midnight when both sides announced a deal could not be reached. We want to get this deal done. It needs to get done. It should have been done may 30th. June 30th. July 30th. It should have been day before now. Reporter but the unions also say even without a deal, even with the coolingoff period officially over, they will not strike, at least not yet. The message to the public, that they are listening. They also say a proposal from b. A. R. T. May not be worth listening to. They asked us not to present it. Reporter who asked you that . The unions. Were trying to get a deal. When you sit at the table and say were not changing anything, thats not negotiations. Reporter well have to see if the tone changes, if things can change at the table to get a deal. Consider what happened overnight, an extension. The unions said if you want to consider this notice of a possible strike, consider it official notice. Even though some people will have monday off because it will be columbus day, the ferry is planning to launch extra boats and they will extend Service Hours to handle any extra demands. A dramatic crash in San Francisco after a driver loses control and hits several parked cars. Ktvus brian flores is live in the Richmond District where were learning the driver may have also hit a garbage truck. Done a lot of damage there, brian. Reporter no question about that. Good morning to you. We also talked to one of the drivers of the cars that were damaged. He said he heard tires screeching and a loud crash that happened roughly around 4 00 a. M. As it happened. You can see the scene pretty much clear. Police left several hours ago, tow trucks towed away the damaged trucks about two hours ago. Still a lot of the debris on the roads. Like broken glass and pieces from the damaged cars. Take a look at the video of the damage. It happened around 10th and geary. From what we understand the woman was traveling from geary onto 10th when she somehow lost control and hit a honda crv. The impact was so great, it forced the suv to land on top of a honda civic parked behind it. There was also a little bit of damage behind the honda civic. The driver was in a blue mitsubishi when it happened. Obviously a lot of unanswered questions. But for the car owners that were affected, they are definitely shocked. I heard a loud crash. It was like a really loud crash. I had a suspicion it was my car. But i just oh, man, i dont want to wake up. Its like 4 00 in the morning. But then the cops rang my doorbell. Reporter still unclear if the driver was under the influence or if theres mechanical failure. But we do know she was taken to San Francisco General Hospital. We dont know the extent of her injuries. Say police say she was walking and talking and appeared to be fine after the impact. Were also hearing from neighbors and also that the driver may have hit a garbage truck somewhere on geary and then that she perhaps panicked. She then fled on 10 and crashed into the 10th and cracked into the parked cars. Still trying to confirm that. Thats what were hearing from several neighborhoods. The driver taken to sf general. A potential gain for the california state fair in sacramento could mean a huge loss for the Sonoma County fair. Next year, the sonoma fair is scheduled to run from july 24th to august 10th. The press democrat reports that the states horse racing board may add an extra week of racing to the state fair in july. Today in oakland, a suspect charged in the july 17th shooting death of 8yearold alasha caradine is due in court. Joseph carroll arrested in texas will be arraigned on murder charges. Police say he helped plan the shooting, targeted two men as retaliation for an earlier gang killing in berkeley. Alashay was killed instead. Another man has been arrested. Hes been charged with actually pulling the trigger. New information in the death of a santa rosa teenager whose body was found on a beach near Uc Santa Barbara. The teen died from a head injury after falling off a cliff six months ago. The 18yearold cal poly student was in the city of vista for spring break. This is the latest incident involving a student falling off a cliff at that location. A 21yearold Uc Santa Barbara student died last year after a fall and at least three other students have been hurt since the death of this girl. But california has no plans to do this. Governors in utah and arizona and a couple of other states asked to reopen parks because of the impact the closures are having on their local economy. But a spokesman for the California Department of finance is paying to reopen the National Parks here, that would put a strain on the states budget which after a lot of work is currently balanced. Starbucks plans to ask customers to sign a petition asking for an end to the shutdown. Starbucks says the petition will be available today at each of its 11,000 u. S. Locations. It calls for reopening the government and passing a long term budget. Starbucks is trying to get the leaders of other Big Companies to sign as well. The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded this morning to an International Group that works to get rid of chemical weapons. The organization for the prohibition of qepts won. In san rafael, two people in the hospital after their car crashed into a cafe last night. Check out the pictures. The san rafael Fire Department says this car crashed into the back of joes cafe around 6 00. It went through the wall, hitting the electrical system there. Still not clear why the car crashed. Two people who were in the car were taken to the hospital for treatment. No one in the cafe was hurt. But all of this is still under investigation. 8 19 is the time. He has a black ponytail with a receding hair line and he was wearing eyeglasses at the time. Meantime, a restaurant in alameda has been hit with 481,000 in fines. Reporter good morning, tori. I just watched the video. It was pretty bold. The attack happened outside of the Walmart Store in fremont. And lets just start going to that Surveillance Video right now where they tried to they got a gold chain off the womans neck. Here is the video showing the male and female suspects. They are wearing black shirts. Police believe they are between 15 and 17 years old. They are looking around the store for a target. You see the male suspect spot his victim, a 70yearold indian woman and makes a motion with his arm as if shooting a rifle to point her out. They continued to follow the family as they shopped. When she exited the store with her husband, walking with a cane, the male suspect walks behind them. Thats when he grabbed her from behind. The male suspect tried to rip the beeld chain off her gold chain off her neck and drags her until he can get that necklace off. The female suspect runs back to a getaway car while the victims son confronts the suspect. He runs away and both suspects leave in a silver or gray vehicle. To get more information about this, we go to the deective detective with the police department. She sustained some serious injuries . Yeah. She was yelling violently for the pain caused to her hip. She fractured it from what we can guess from the medical reports. The suspect threw her on the ground. Reporter how helpful is this video . What do you know about these suspects . Its great because we cannot identify them but the vehicle description, we hope that anybody in the public can give us that information. New information on the minivan that veered off i80 on wednesday morning and crashed down an embankment in el cerrito. Officials say the driver fail tally shot himself while driving. The chp officers witnessed the crash after noticing the van was missing a tire. The van hit the Center Divide and crashed on the Central Avenue offramp. The coroner said the driver died from a gunshot to the head. His death has been ruled a suicide. A 3yearold is in stable condition after being rushed into surgery. Police say the childs father brought the toddler to the hospital last night with life threatening injuries. The father told police the child had been unresponsive since being picked up from daycare.
