Behind me, you can see theres still smoke coming out of the building. Theres a cluster of firefighters there. Theres also smoke again, rising above. A lot of the reason for that is because they have been cutting holes in the roof to vent it out. Now, i want to go to some earlier footage we took this morning that shows chopper 2. It gives you sort of an aerial view to show how big the scene is. About 60 firefighters and 22 engines arrived here at about 6 30 this morning. There was a concern because it was really unknown what was burning inside those units. That can make for a very dangerous situation. Im joined now by cast kasten clause by captain clause. There was concern that the second story may collapse. Can you tell us about that . As crews entered the second story, the floor was spongy and weak and felt it may give way due to the smoke and flames below. We kept crews from going interior on the lower floors and the upper floors. So our plan of action right now is were fighting the fire from the adjacent unit upstairs. We have to cut through a wall to knock that down. Reporter i understand so far four units have been affected. Theyve been burned. Is it still spreading . No. Weve pretty much knocked down the fire. Theres really tight spots that because of the access issues and the safety hazard that are within the units and also a lot of a lot of personal items that are inside. Reporter you were mentioning you saw a car in one of units back there . Is that a you dont know what is inside. It can be very dangerous. We dont know whats in the units. Once we get in, we break lox and there could be anything from Hazardous Materials and we saw a car inside that has a lot of items in there that could cause issues for the firefighters. It was noted earlier that crews werent wearing their masks at the time. But we were pretty much in a defensive operation. Soap they were conserving air just in case they had to go inside for any reason. Reporter thank you very much. You can see the crew pulling up here. Now, earlier this morning, around 3 30, our news crews were able to get within feet of the flames. The call came in at 2 30. Reporter no homes or buildings were threatened. Not only did crews have limited access to water, they had to cross headstones, trenches near the edge of the cemetery and the terrain is quite steep. Theres also poison oak. Arson investigators are out there trying to figure out what sparked the fire. You can see one of the trucks that took off from the fire hydrant with some more water. We understand that the department of forestry has been called in to inspect some of these trees. They are tall trees. They want to make sure that theres no fire inside the trees here.
