Police are searching for a hit and run driver they say crashed into a bus. Matt keller is live from the scene to talk about what happened. Reporter good morning. In just the past couple minutes we watched as a tow truck came and hooked up to the vta bus. You can see there is a lot of damage done to the front right wheel and passenger entrance. Police say this was a hit and run. Car ran a red light here and smashed into the bus. 13 passengers were on the bus. One was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. 13 passengers didnt have any injuries which is great. We are glad for that and they were able to go onto their destination on the next bus. Reporter police say the driver of the car took off after the crash. We are told the car was damaged and towed away. The vta will look at the video from surveillance cameras on the bus and do an investigation of the crash. The next step is for the tow truck to take this bus to the vta yard, traffic here on capitol is open in all directions. Reporting live. Matt keller. Thank you. Now to the breaking news we first reported half an hour ago on ktvu. Murder defendant Oscar Pistorius is being released on bail. Here have the bail conditions. He cannot go back to his home. He must give up his passport and turn in over a Million Dollars South African ran which is a round 13,000 american dollars. The next court date is june 4th. Reporter good morning. To you. Another thing that he will have to do under his bail condition is report to a Police Station every monday and every friday. Im sure those are conditions he considers much better than what the alternative could have been as he was waiting for nearly two hours today during his hearing to decide what the magistrate would say about his bail. The magistrate went back and forth outlining why the court, prosecutions case was strong and then talking about what the defense was able to do to poke holes in the idea. In the end what we heard is that he will be allowed out on bail before his trial that will start in a few months. Prosecutors had worked for four days in court to try to paint him as a killer who planned the murder of his girlfriend. The defense tried to poke holes in the case and it has been a week of developments for everything. What happened today with the magistrate talking was in different. When we went into this thinking the guidance it would be a 15 minutes or so before the magistrate said whether there would be a bail or not. Instead it was two hours. We saw the defendant, we are told emotional during this time, sometimes just sat looking down, was looking down but other times he was tearful. There was a great celebration yes that came from the courtroom at the time that the magistrate finally made his decision. We dont know if we will see him later today. We are still watching closely. That courtroom to see what is next. And i do want to say the lead investigator was dismissed from the case yesterday because he was brought up on attempted murder charges. How will have that effect the trial . Reporter we saw the judge the magistrate critical of the fact that he had those that he had been part of that and that was a part of the story. He also was so extensive in going back and forth in both ways that it wasnt the major reason that he listed. He said that the prosecution had failed to outline that the defendant was a flight risk so that was a factor that came into play. You cant assume he was on the defendants as pointed out what he called a lot of him probablyibles in the story, why did he go toward what he thought was an intruder, why did he not work a little more to see where his girlfriend was when he told her to call for help as he talked about in his affidavit. This magistrate was very clear in saying he was not talking about whether or not the defendant is guilty, just that he thought he should not continue to be held until the trial. All right. Thank you. The Police Search goes on in las vegas this morning for the suspect in yesterday mornings deadly shooting on the vegas strip that killed an oakland native. The aspiring rap ewas shot and killed while driving his car. Investigators say shots were fired from a black range rover. It started with an argument in the valet area of a hotel and then continued to the strip. We talked to the victims father. Like someone has taken a bat and hit you in the back of your head. Its the worst feeling and its bad. Its just bad. Reporter after the shots were fired cherrys car smashed in to a taxi and then burst into flames killing two people inside. Again that investigation continues. Happening now student demonstrators are waking up on the campus of city college. They occupied a building in a protest that started late yesterday. We are live to let you know what prompted this take over and the Police Reaction to it. Reporter good morning. The students have been meeting for the past hour and they just received word that the chancellor, they are going to wait to see if she will meet with them on monday. So they will stay here until they hear from her whether or not thats a thumbs up. In the meantime you can see that there are about two dozen protesters here at the hall and they are in a fight to save this community college. Students spent the night in their sleeping bags on the floor or on chairs. This after attending a 12 30 rally yesterday afternoon where dozens took turns talking while city colleges chief of police looked on. Students say there has been a lack of open communication between students and the administration which is imposing cuts to Student Services and school staff to try to fend off the possible closure of the cool. Commission, the aacjc is actually giving way more sanctions than other regional boards and we have a lot of questions because it receives funding for instant from the Lumina Foundation which is tied to the student loan industry. We think a lot of these attacks on the school are from the right wing agenda that wants to see the school go down for online universities. Reporter they are also angry about a meet that never happened and we are told the chancellor was out of town. The school has until march 15th to submit a plan to avoid closing but a special trustee for city college said in january the school would likely miss that deadline. The report must show they are taking steps to reduce an to many campuses and a high faculty cost. The students are milling about. They sane will hold out waiting to hear from the chancellor if she will meet with them on monday. They say one of their demands has been met that they will be able to hold town hall forums on campus here in order to discuss the issue look at it more closely. We are here live in San Francisco. Two chp helicopter pilots came to the rescue of a hiker who was being stalked by a Mountain Lion. It happened last weekend on the popular stevens trail. The hiker made a frantic 911 call saying the lion was moving in on him. The pilots found him franticly waving a flash light with a Mountain Lion standing 20 feet away. The sound of the chopper probably saved the mans life. I have never scared off a Mountain Lion with a helicopter. I shudder to think what would have happened if he didnt have his cell phone. A state fish and wildlife warden later went to put up warning signs but was forced to shoot and kill the Mountain Lion when it aggressively approached him. The fbi ended the search of a well, they were looking for possible victims ever two serial kill canners. They started searching last month after the convicted killer told them that he and his late accomplice dumped bodies of their victims there years ago. The fbi said that no human remains were found in the well. The fbi is caught up in the middle of a sex scandal. The fbi issued a memo to employees hoping to crack down on inappropriate behavior. Some agents sent explicit photographs and texts on blackberries. A worker planted a bug in their bosss office, another was arrested in a child porn sting operation. Another one was suspended after paying for sex at a massage parlor. There is potential new trouble for santa clara supervisor. The mercury news report there is are new questions about his financial dealing with a university in sunnyvale. According to the investigation he may have misrepresented a consulting fee that he collected from the university when he filled out a reporting form. The university faces its own troubles because of its reported history of donating to politicians in an attempt to gain favors. The supervisor is already under investigation for alleged expense account abuses. Abuses. A jury will get the Corruption Case against the former mayor of bell california. He is among six former officials accused of misusing funds. We are just a week from feeling the effects of automatic Government Spending cuts. The White House Office of management and budget reports Border Security would be cut back by 581 million, if california has a Natural Disaster getting help from fema would be hard, they would be cut by 375 million and Homeland Security said expect to wait another hour to get through airport security. Tsa faces more than 300 million in cuts. House republicans voted twice to pass legislation that included what they called common sense cuts. They cut out overlap in Government Agencies and what they consider wasteful spending but the senate didnt vote ont. The Senate Proposes 110 billion in cuts and tax increases over the next decade but their plan allows sequestration to take effect the beginning of next year. Lets have a vote. You want to vote no . Delta increased the price of tickets purchased seven or fewer days before traveling. The price went up between four and ten dollars. Its the 4 the time that an airline has tried raising prices but its the first time others matched it. This morning japan said it knows what caused some of the problems with the boeing 787. Investigators say fuel leaks were caused by a switch that didnt work and faulty taping to blame for cracked cockpit glass. But investigators are still looking into the more serious battery problems. All dream liner flights have been canceled since the middle of last month. United said its removing all its boeing 787s from its flight schedule through early june. United said it could put them back in service on its flights between tokyo and denver in late may but that would only happen if the cause of battery problems is found and fixed before that. Today boeing is meeting with the faa to propose a temporary fix that could get some some flying again. New this morning, just hours ago a medical helicopter carrying a crew of three crashed right there in oklahoma city. Two crew members died, a third one is in the hospital in critical condition. The witnesses say the helicopter was leaving a hospital heading back to its home base. Neighbors say they heard a loud explosion and they saw the smoke and the flames. They have been taking measurements since before the sun came up trying to figure out how this person lost control on this roadway. This is where we are standing at the start of kind of where this accident happened. The roadway turns and its on the other side of this roadway where this car ended up. I can show you video of the vehicle and i will take you through what happened. This morning the vehicle with one person inside came down Bayshore Road. For some reason the driver lost control. She hit a fire hydrant and a power pole and was ejected from the car and killed. The car kept ongoing down the road before it came to a stop in front ofa a Public Storage facility on bayshore. Since them this roadway has been shut down as Police Investigate. This is a fairly busy road. We have been running in to people trying to get to their businesses. Apparently there are a lot of catering companies. We talked to one person who was trying to get to rush hour catering. She said they were worrying about getting to customers. The womans car hit two parked cars before hitting a tree. She was rushed to the hospital but we dont know her condition. Police are not revealing much but they say they are investigating the possibility that another car left the scene of the crash. San joses infamous chi li if any lady is back in jail accused of cooking up a new story. She went to prison for planting a finger in a bowl of chili in a scheme to extort money. Now she is a accused of lying to protect her adult son. The two made up a story about two men shooting her son but police later found evidence that he shot himself. Her son has a previous burglary conviction and isnt allowed to own a gun. All over the country today the president s Nonprofit Group is Holding Events in support of the president s Gun Violence Reduction plan. This day of action is the First National mobilization since the group was launched back in january. Volunteers who helped reelect the president are trying to help his get policies through congress. That story coming up for you at 7 45. New this morning San Francisco police are issuing a warning to the asian community. There is a scam targeting older chinese people. Brian flores is in San Francisco to explain how the scammers are preying on victims. Reporter good morning. This is a scam that actually we have been reporting for several months. This has been going at least for a year. Its targeting the community. San Francisco Police are hoping that the community hears what the scam is about so they can protect themselves, especially with the parade just around the corner. The latest scam happened in january. What it is it involves three or four women. They approach an unsuspecting woman alone on foot. Now in some instances the suspects will tell the victim that one of them is sick or cursed and that the only way to get rid of it is to have the victims valuables blessed. The victim will give the valuables to the suspects, they will put them in a bag and then hold a type of ceremony and then switch the bag giving the victims a lot of worthless items. Its happened to at least 50 victims in the bay area and they believe its continuing to grow. What it is, its a group of mostly women, several times there is been one man involved. They will contact a victim here in the city about half the time elder victims. Reporter police also say there have been arrests but they want the community to know about this scam. So far six people in may and four people last november but police say it just continues and the suspects mostly from china. They say we are also hearing cases like this in las vegas, new york, chicago, boston and seattle. Again we are expecting some type of press conference or meeting discussing this scam around 12 or one this afternoon. We are live. Brian flores. Thank you. The investigation starts of a dramatic crash of a crane at the bay bridge. Pam cook is here to tell us who is looking into what happened. It is now a federal investigation for a number of reasons. Now four workers were at the base of the new bridge tower at the time the crane collapsed. We heard from the United States department of labor about the safety issues that are now being raised. The coast guard will also likely be part of the investigation since the Coast Guard Boat and helicopter were first on the scene. Police say that the car actually hit a fire hydrant and a power pole ejecting the driver before then ending up in front of the business here along Bayshore Road. They did take quite a while to take measurements. They said the accident scene stretched the length of two football fields. Family members say that the victim just 20 years old and was on her way home. Live in redwood city. All right. In overnight news a lot of Unanswered Questions remained about an overnight crash in newark that hurt a woman. It happened about midnight. Police say the womans car crashed into two parked cars, then it hit a tree. She was rushed to a hospital, we dont know her condition. So far the police arent saying much but they say that they want to know if another car left the scene of that crash. Say san joses chili finger lady is back in jail accused of cooking up a new story. She went to prison for planting a cut off finger in a bowl of wendys chili to try to extort money from them. She is now accused of lying to protect her adult son who was found with a wounded ankle. Prosecutors say that the two made up a story about two men shooting him. Later they found evidence that he shot hippings. Her son has a previous conviction. Homicide detectives in oakland are looking for suspects in a deadly shooting. It happened around nine last night at 79th and mcarthur boulevard. Police found the victim inside a car that was riddled with bullets. Family members say that victim was a man in his late 30s, still not clear what led up to the gun fire. New this morning San Francisco Police Warning the asian community. There is a scam and its targeting older chinese people. Brian flores is in San Francisco now. Tell us about this scam brian. Reporter you know the scam is actually been happening for months. According to the police. Its been going on for at least a year or longer. With the new year parade tomorrow thousands of people will be on the streets, they hope the community is a ware and knowledgeable of the scam so others arent victims. What the scam does is it involves preying on fears in chinese culture. A group, may three or four women will try to talk to another woman who is walking alone on foot. They get to know the victim and then gain their trust. Now somewhere in the conversation one of the suspects will tell the victim that one of their family members is sick or cursed and that the only way to get rid of the illness is to hand over jewelry or cash. The suspects will put the items in a bag, do a blessing or ceremony and then give the victim another bag full of worthless items. They will then tell the victim not to open the bag until they get home for it to work. This has happened to at least 15 victims in the bay area and they believe its continuing now. They will contact the victim, on the street, and at some point make them believe that they have or either the victim themselves are in harms way or someone close to them in their family will be injured or killed because they have bad spirits or evil spirits lurking around them. Reporter now there have been some arrests, act six people in may, four last november. Police say that just continues and that the suspects are mostly from china and they say the cases arent just regular gated to the bay area. Las vegas, chicago, boston and seattle all have cases. The good news is that the crane accident is not affecting traffic and its not going to affect the opening much the new bay bridge span which is set for Labor Day Weekend. Its now a federal investigation and we have been told that it could take up to six months to determine exactly how it happened and whether or not there will be any penalties or fines. There are potentially significant safety issues, both for the operators of the cranes and for any of the worker that may be work close to those cranes. Reporter the crane was working to remove temporary support structures on the new eastern span of the bay bridge when fell. It happened as the crane was trying to remove a huge steel beam that.
