Lorraine blanco is live at the toll plaza with a look at what drive remembers dealing with there. It looks like a blanket of fog behind you. Reporter yeah, it is. The first day back from the holiday for many of us. Were facing a lot of fog and a lot of traffic here. Its still dense enough that its still hard to make out the toll plaza. Its right behind us. Even the warning signs about the fog are hard to read. There is a break in the fog around san pablo. But be prepared for the fog on the side streets as well this morning at Jack London Square in oakland. Could you not read the streets there you could not read the signs. Now, we just spoke to the duty manager at sfo. He says the fog is expected to cause delays of more than an hour most of the day. Those delays are expected to begin around 8 00 a. M. And continue until at least 3 00 in the afternoon. Again, this is at sfo. The fog is expected to cause delays at the airports in oakland and san jose. A lot of people heading back home after the thanksgiving holiday. You should call ahead, though, if you are heading to the airport this morning. 7 03. Well a Carbon Monoxide scare in San Francisco sense more than a dozen people to the hospital and sent more than a dozen people to the hospital and theres still a search of where it came from. Ktvus alex savidge is in San Francisco. Youve been on the story since 4 30. Investigators are having a hard time finding answers. Reporter its certainly been a challenge to figure out what made this family sick last night. A pg e spokeswoman told me this morning that they had one of their representatives here at their house until late in the evening last night, trying to fick out a cause for the leak figure out a cause for the leak. He tested the unit upstairs and downstairs. And he didnt get any Carbon Monoxide readings in either case. Firefighters came out here about 7 00 last night on cortland street in the Bernal Heights neighborhood in San Francisco. A total of 14 people had to be transported to the hospital after being exposed to the colorless, odorless gas. Firefighters say those patients did have Carbon Monoxide in their blood stream. A pg e representative here on scene responded and was not able to figure out where the gas was coming from. One neighbor told us this Carbon Monoxide scare actually forced her to evacuate. We got a knock on the door from our neighbors and they told us that theres like Carbon Monoxide leak upstairs. They told us to come out of the house. When we got out, there was a fire truck and ambulances up and down the street. They took the whole families to the hospital. Reporter i just checked in a couple of hours ago with the San Francisco Fire Department dispatch center. I asked how the family members are doing. I wasnt able to get an update on their Current Conditions at the hospital. Theres no word whether the family was alerted by a Carbon Monoxide detecter but this is certainly a good reminder for all of the rest of us. There is a California Law that went into effect last year requiring all singlefamily homes to have a Carbon Monoxide detector and then starting in january of next year, all condos and apartments must also install those Carbon Monoxide detecters. It happened early yesterday morning on robles way near glen cove. 44yearold randee damar williams senior is accused of shooting and killing a 17year old richmond boy after getting a call from his son for help. Neighbors say they could hear yelling, when all of a sudden shots rang out. All you heard was pow, pow, pow, pow. And i just ducked. I laid down. Scary that just right across the street, somebody got shot. Williams was arrested at his home shortly after the shooting. This was the 21st homicide of the year in vallejo. 7 06. We now know more about a bay area connection to a deadly crash on highway 50 that killed four people. It happened saturday night near placerville when the driver of a prius veered across four lanes of traffic right into the path of a minivan. Three members of an oakland family were in that prius. They were killed. Their 10yearold daughter is in the hospital with severe injuries. A 4yearold girl riding in the minivan also died. Some people who live in the area believe the driver of the prius may have swerved to avoid running into a deer. I think its a high chance of being connected. Now, four other people in that minivan were not seriously hurt. It is 7 06. A number of deadly crashes was up this thanksgiving weekend compared to last year. But dui arrests were down slightly. The chp says 31 people were killed statewide including six in the bay area between wednesday evening and yesterday morning. Thats ten more deaths statewide than last year. In many of those cases, people were not wearing seat belts. As we can see, not everybody was seat belted. Thats an unfortunate part because that should be the norm for anyone when he they are being seated in a vehicle to automatically when they are being seated in the vehicle, to automatically buckle up. Time now, 7 07. Well, this week, the u. S. Supreme court could decide whether the deal with the whether to deal with the issue of samesex marriage. The court is due to hold a closeddoor conference on friday. Coming up for you at 7 15, the one decision the court could make that would make samesex marriage legal here in california before christmas time. All right. If we head up to emeryville at the macarthur maze, you can see the fog weve been talking about. We cant see anything and the bay bridge toll plaza is much the same way. But its too early to go in for totals yet. There are reports from the Russian River north for maybe a foot of rain between wednesday and sunday. Well see. One forecast model is not as bullish as the other. But its going to rain. Fog and clouds here for the morning for some. It will be very foggy. That fog is tough to burn off, once it sets up. But mostly sunny in the afternoon. Kind of hazy and mild. The dry patterned ends wednesday morning and then it will be good by fog and hello to rain. Heavier amounts will be north. It looks like the first take, wednesday morning and then thursday evening. After that, friday, saturday, and sunday look to be a complete broad brush. New this morning from bangladesh pictures of a second fire at that garment factory where 117 people were killed over the weekend. The fire itself has been contained. No one was hurt. We can also tell you that thousands of people now now, again, were following what happened in ben gla deb. Thousands were in the streets because workers were trapped inside the building with no emergency exits. At least 12 people jumped from the building trying to get away from the flames. Egypts Justice Minister said that a resolution was immiment to the political crisis over president morsis decision to grant himself sweeping pours, a move thats touched days of street violence. President morsi says the move is temporary and he plans to meet with the countrys supreme judicial council. Supporters and opponents of the president are planning big protests tomorrow. 7 15. United States Supreme Court gets involved in the historic gay marriage debate this week. Ktvus alison burns in our washington, d. C. Newsroom with the cases now facing the court. Alison . Reporter dave, the justices will meet behind closed doors to decide whether to take up any of the cases related to samesex marriage this week. Now, tops among those cases, of course, californias proposition 8, the 2008 voter approved ban on samesex marriage. If the Court Decides not to take up a challenge to proposition 8, that means gay and lesbian couples would legally be able to legally marry in california right away. The justices are also considering whether to take up challenges to the federal law that defines marriages between a man and a woman. Legal analysts say the justices might want to let Lower Court Rulings stand and avoid the issue altogether. Samesex marriage supporters are releasing an ad this week to try to influence the court. C. , alison burns, ktvu channel 2 news. Thank you. 7 17. Investigators in massachusetts say the cause of fridays huge gas explosion in springfield was human error but it was not an error of judgment. The state fire marshal says the utility worker accidentally punctured a highpressure gas line lyle looking for a leak and that explosion was ignited by a spark. Authorities say the markings were wrong. His examination appears to have been an appropriate distance from where all of the markings were on the sidewalk, indicating where the gas line from the main went into the building. However, the markings were incorrect. 21 people were injured and 42 buildings were damaged or destroyed by the explosion on friday. The Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities is now investigating the incident. 7 18. Climate change tops the agenda at a meeting of almost 200 nations in the oil rich country of quarter quatar. A San Francisco sheriffs deputy accused of robbing a bank is due in court this afternoon. The 36yearold was arrested earlier this month. One Bay Area Hospital demanding to be reimbursed by the Los Angeles Dodgers for the treatment it gave to bryan stow, the giants fan brutally beaten in l. A. Brian flores is live at San Francisco General Hospital with more. Reporter hi, dave. San francisco General Hospital is seeking a 1. 2 million medical reimbursement from the dodgers for medical care of bryan stow. The hospital went to hospital went to u. S. Bankruptcy court in order to seek permission for this. Now, stow who continues to receive aroundtheclock rehabilitation treatment, initially received brain trauma care at San Francisco general for about four months after the alleged beating. Stow was brutally attacked in the parking lot of dodgers stadium while watching the game back in march of 2011. Since then, the hospital and essentially taxpayers had to foot the bill for medical care. But now the hospital is seeking to get money back from the dodgers. Many fans are hoping that this ugly chapter gets resolved soon. Meanwhile, the l. A. Times reports that the hospital pursue the claim despite the deadline for doing so has passed the if the judge agrees and the hospital can go after some type of reimbursement, no official comment from the hospital or from the dodgers. Authorities say an offdurty officer saw 18yearold jacob harro at a walmart in morgan hill on thanksgiving night. The officer called police who came and arrested him. Hes accused of killing 16year old ruben zamora back on may 26th. The 23yearold man was also under a 23yearold man was also bounded in the shooting. This will be the last sunny and mild day of the week, no doubt. Fog tomorrow morning and then increasing clouds. It will turn cloudy by tuesday night. The first one will be on wednesday, the second one thursday night and then it looks like friday through sunday could see a series of systems moving in. People in new york who became unemployed due to sandy are now getting work. The governor has set aside 27 million to hire 5,000 new yorkers who help clean and rebuild their neighborhoods. Its estimated that 200,000 new yorkers are unemployed because of sandy. All adults impacted by sandy can apply but the initiative is geared towards people ages 18 to 24. This map shows where the three fatal shootings occurred saturday and sunday. Police say two women were shot to death yesterday morning on military enna avenue near brookdale avenue and an 18year old woman was also shot and killed saturday on 28th in east oakland. A 19yearold man died saturday after being shot on san pablo avenue in north oakland. The city of oakland has now seen 115 homicides this year. Its more than all of last year when there were 110. The record high for homicides in oakland was in 1992 when there were 175 deaths. The search has ended for a 16yearold boy swept into the ocean in humboldt county. It happened saturday afternoon at big lagoon north of eureka. The teenager and his parents went into the water to try to save their dogs. Both parents drowned and were pronounced dead at the scene. The coast guard has called off the search for the bit yesterday. The dog survived. A Humane Society says it will pay chihuahua owners to bring their dogs in to spay and neuter. Youve been out there since 4 30 this morning. So what is it like now, lorraine . Dave, the fog has actually lifted quite a lot since we saw you the last time, actually in the last 15 minutes. If you take a look at this crane behind me, you can see the bottom of that crane, but you cant see the top. So theres still fog out here. And this morning, it was like a magician did a little hocus pocus on the toll plaza. It was not to be seen until about 15, 20 minutes ago. You are now able to see the toll plaza and traffic is moving rather slow into the city. This is new video of what it is like driving in the soupy sunrise. You cant read freeway signs until you are right up on them. This is the foggiest ive seen in this area in a very long time. We drove 880 north and 80 east and the fog covered from oakland to san pablo. The fog is blanketing a lot of the city this moring as well. Advisories remain in effect for all bridges except the dumbarton bridge. He says the fog there at sfo is expected to cause delays of flights of an hour or more most of today. A Carbon Monoxide scare in San Francisco sent more than a dozen people to the hospital and theres still a search for the source of the poisonous gas. Alex savidge is in San Francisco to explain why investigators are having such a hard time finding answers. Good morning, alex. Reporter well, good morning. A pg e spokeswoman told me this morning the representative they had out here last night couldnt find a source for the Carbon Monoxide. He tested all of the appliances in the upstairs unit where the people got sick. He also tested the appliances in the downstairs unit as well and couldnt find any gas leaks. Firefighters were called out here around 7 00 last night to this house on cortland in bernal flights. 14 people were transported to the hospital. Firefighters say the patients had some Carbon Monoxide in their blood stream. A pg e representative here on scene was not age to figure out where the gas was come not able to figure out where the gas was coming from. One neighbor said this scare forced her to evacuate. She was worried about the family members sent to the hospital. A few of them had really high Carbon Monoxide readings and were okay, though, and i and i dont know about the family right now. Reporter i reached out to the San Francisco Fire Department early this morning. So far ive not been able to get an update on the Current Conditions for all of those people hospitalized as a result of their exposure to Carbon Monoxide. Theres also no word on whether this family was alerted by a Carbon Monoxide detector. But it bears reminding here this morning after this scare last night that there was a law put into place last year here in california requiring all singlefamily homes to have a Carbon Monoxide detector and then coming up january of next year, all condos, apartments and other multifamily dwellings will also have to have those installed as well. Life builders runs three shelters at the National Guard amries in gilroy, sunnyvale and san jose. The Program Provides emergency beds and daily meals. The shelters will be open until the end of march. The father of a vallejo is in jail after police say he shot and killed another teenager fighting with his son. It happened early yesterday morning on robles way near glen cove. 44yearold randee damar williams senor is caulked of is accused of shooting and senior is accused of shooting and killing a teenager. Neighbors heard yelling and then there was gunfire. All you heard was pow, pow, pow, pow. And i just ducked. I laid down. Scary. Right across the street someone got shot. Williams was arrested at his home shortly after the shooting. This was the 21st homicide of the year in vallejo. It is 8 05. Were now learning about a bay area connection to a fatal collision on highway 50 that killed four people. The crash happened saturday night near placerville when the driver of a prius veered across four lanes of traffic right into the path of a minivan. Three members of an oakland family who were riding in the prius were killed. Their 10yearold daughter is hospitalized with severe injuries and a 4yearold girl who was riding in the minivan also died. Some people who live in the area believe the driver of the prius may have swerved to avoid hitting a deer. I think its theres a high chance of it being connected. Four other people were not seriously injured. The number of deadly crashes was up this thanksgiving weekend compared to last year but dui arrests were down just a bit. The chp says 31 people were killed all over the state including six here in the bay area between wednesday evening and yesterday morning. Thats ten more statewide than last year. Many of those cases people were not wearing seat belts. As we can see in fatalities, not everybody was seat belted. Thats unfortunate. Because that should be the norm for everybody when they are being seated in a vehicle, to automatically buckle up that seat belt. The chp says 224 people were arrested in the bay area on suspicion of dui during the maximum enforcement period. That compares to 227 last year. This week, the Supreme Court could decide whether to take up the issue of samesex marriage. The court is scheduled to hold a closeddoor conference on friday. New this morning from bangladesh, pictures of a second fire at a bangladesh garment factory. This comes after a weekend fire at another factory that killed 117 people. The new fire has been contained. No injuries are reported in that fire. Meanwhile, thousands are protesting in the streets against the deadly factory fire that trapped workers in a building that did not have emergency exits. And because there were no exits at least 12 people died just from jumping from the building to escape the flames. There are reports some of the clothes at that factory were being made for walmart, sears and the fashion line of shawn combs. The government has announced a period of mourning for the victims. Less than a month after voters in several states approved samesex marriage, the u. S. Supreme Court Decides whether it wants to get involved. Alison burns reports, depending upon what the justices decide, gay couples here in california could be tying the knot before christmas. Alison . And this week, the justices will meet behind closed doors to decide whether to weigh in on any of them. Californias proposition 8 is on the line. Thats the 2008 voterapproved ban on samesex marriage. If the justices decide not to review the challenge to proposition 8, that means gay and lesbian couples could legally marry in california, right away. But critics of samesex marriage are concerned that the court could end up legalizing it nationwide. That would raise the ross spect, the possible the prospect, the possibility of a row v. Wade in which the court would impose this on all 50 states. The justices are considering whether to take up challenges to a federal law defining marriage as between a man and a woman. A San Francisco sheriffs deputy accused of robbing a bank is due in court this afternoon. Tong was arrested earlier this month. They want businesses and individuals to donate money or time tomorrow. Now, they say that there is one day to give thanks, so there should be a day to give back. They hope to report later this week to see if there are signs and donations and volunteers that have gone up. Just this morning, they issued a new warning about the fiscal cliff. They say that it could lead consumers to spend less money during the Holiday Season. So if they dont act, everyone will be owing more taxes. That could affect the spending habits on some people. They are not spending like they would because they still dont know what will happen. And congress, they only have 35 days now to come to an agreement on the deficit reduction. If they dont, then the automatic tax hikes will be taking effect on january 1. One Bay Area Hospital is demanding to be reimbursed by the Los Angeles Dodgers for the care they gave to brian stowe. They went to the Bankruptcy Court recently in an effort to seek permission to pursue that reimbursement from the dodgers. Stowe was brutally attacked in the parking lot while watching the home opener. Since then they had to put the bill for the medical care. The hospital is seeking to get money back from the dodgers. They are hoping that this gets resolved soon. I do think that the level of care that i know he has received to build it up and i do think that there is some negligence that they probably have. Now they are reporting that the attorneys for both of them asked the court to let the hospital pursue their claims, despite a deadline for doing so. And now if the judge agrees, then the hospital could pursue some type of reimbursement from the team. Either a trial or a settlement. No comment from the hospital or the dodgers this morning. One of the men accused of vandalizing a bus during the celebration last month will face a judge today. The 19yearold is accused of vandalizing a bus and setting it on fire at 3rd and market. After a teenager was killed in san jose, Police Arrested the suspect in the case. On thanksgiving night, they spotted the 18yearold at a walmart in morgan hill. That officer, they called the police, they came and arrested him. Hes accused of killing another man who was also wounded. A u. S. Navy seal has been killed in combat in afghanistan. Oakland police, they want to prevent more gun violence after four people were shot and killed in just 24 hours over the holiday weekend. This map shows you where the fatal shootings occurred on saturday and sunday. And police, they say that two women were shot to death yesterday morning. It was all near this street where the woman was also shot and killed on saturday on 28th avenue in east oakland. And a 19yearold man, he died on saturday after being shot on the avenue here in north oakland. Oakland, they have now seen 115 homicides so far this year. Thats more than last year when they had 110 homicides. The alltime how for the homicides in oakland is back in 1992 when there were 175 deaths. Well, a search has now ended for a 16yearold boy, swept into the ocean in the county. It all happened on saturday afternoon at big lagoon. North of eureka. The teenager and his parents went into the water, trying to rescue their dog. Well, both parents, they drowned. They were pronounced dead at the scene. They are now calling off the search for the teenage boy. The dog by the way, survived. Later this morning, the San Francisco Police Department, they will start taking applications for the entry level Police Officer jobs. Eligible applicants have to be at least 21 years old. The u. S. Citizens with a valid california drivers license and a High School Diploma. And the application period ends on friday, december 7. Starting pay by the way for the San Francisco Police Officer, 88,000 a year. 8 48. The city may also offer new incentives to get more experienced officers to apply to its police force. They are set to consider a proposal tomorrow to change the retirement formula for existing officers and transfers from the other departments. If approved, the officers could retire at the age of 50 with a pension of 3 of their last years salary times the number of years they worked for the department. City leaders say the upgraded website should make it easier for people to find information about the local services and the events. Police in new york are now investigating some disturbing confetti discovered at the macys thanksgiving day parade. Confetti is the traditional part of the thanksgiving parade in new york city. But a College Student who attended the parade with some friends says that he noticed some of the confetti floating around contained personal information on the strips of paper from the nearby nasa county Police Department. And there were addresses, more Social Security numbers, license plate numbers and all these instant reports from police. Some of the confetti even identifies detectives with their Social Security numbers, date of, and other sensitive information. The county Police Department is investigating how the shredded documents ended up at the parade.
