We start with video we just got of the overnight rescue of a man stuck in a storm drain. Rescue crews had to work for hours to dig him free and they finally pulled him out. This was about midnight. The first call came in after a man heard noises around 8 last night. Officers went to the area and couldnt find the victim but later found him wedged in a metal pipe seven feet underground. He was upset and a bit dehydrated, hypothermia was setting in. The cold night. Im not sure why he was in there. Though he was trapped for hours the man had only minor injuries. I a campbell nati version killed in the south bay will be laid to rest today. Matt keller joining us live with more on the service and the update on the investigation there to the case. Reporter yeah. I checked in with the San Jose Police Department Spokesperson for the update on this case. They are still search for a second suspect or at least thats what was happening all this week as they released a sketch on that expect now hee mailed me back and said per the homicide unit we arent confirming or denying any new information. That came after i asked them if an arrest had been made. The man was shot and killed last week. One of the suspects a 26year old was in court wednesday. Police say he and another man robbed four businesses, murdered a 22yearold in a carjacking and participated in a shoot out with two officers one of the officers was hit and taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Willbanks was arrested the next morning. Officers released a sketch of the second suspect, a 20,000 dollar reward is being offered for his arrest. The funeral for the victim is being held this morning at 11. We will continue to talk to police and ask them about updates on that second suspect and bring you new information on mornings on 2. Doctors ruled him brain dead after he was shot in the head on tuesday. A friend died in that shooting also. Police are following leads but have not made arrests. Happening how a hit and run shutting down three southbound lanes of highway 101. A car hit another vehicle just before five this morning. The accident caused one car to overturn. Overturn. An lanes 2, 3 and 4 are still blocked. The driver abandoned his car and fled the scene. Chp officers checked the home of the driver listed but nobody was there. Loved ones of a family are Holding Vigil after family members crashed into a crashed chp car. The family was returning a black friday shopping trip in gilroy when their suv hit the Highway Patrol cruiser. A 24yearold died at the scene. Her four sisters and her parents were also hurt. A passerby heard sounds of him yelling for help near a best buy store on fitzgerald drive. It took more than three hours to get him out. Loved ones of a family are Holding Vigil after family members crashed into a parked chp car. The family was returning a black friday shopping trip in gilroy when they hit the cruiser on highway 101. I just got word at the San Jose Police department. That officers art arrested a second suspect in concord and he is a juvenile. The first suspect. A 26yearold was in court wednesday, police say he and the juvenile just arrested robbed four businesses, shot and killed a 22yearold in a car jack agriculture carjacking attempt and participated in a shoot out. One of the officers was hit and taken to the hospital. The suspect was arrested the next morning after standoff in an East San Jose neighborhood. Officer released a sketch but sources said an arrest has been made and he is a juvenile. A memorial for the victim is being held this morning in campbell. We are also just learning that San Jose Police arrested 42 people at an overnight party. Officers responded to reports of shots fired on pratt avenue at ten last night but when they arrived at the home the party goers started throwing things at them. One suspect tried to drag one of the officers to the back of the house but he was able to escape. 60 extra officers and some Sheriff Deputies were called for back up, eventually the people inside the house came outside and gave up. Police arrest add second person in connection to last weeks deadly crime spree in the south bay. Police say the second suspect is a juvenile and he was captured last night in concord. He and the other suspect, Jonathan Wilbanks are accused of pulling off several armed robberies, also suspected of killing a man during a car jacking and firing shots at San Jose Police officers. This development may be of comfort for the family of the car jacking victim, rory park pedford. Coming up, a live report on the latest arrest and the memorial for the victim. That is scheduled in campbell for later this morning. Police in san jose are asking for the publics help, as they search for the driver involved in a fatal hit and run accident. It happened wednesday morning around 6 15 near allen rock and jackson avenues. Police say the driver of a darkcolored sedan struck a homeless man, then sped away. The man was left lying in the road and was then hit by another car. Police say the driver of that second car immediately stopped and is cooperating with police. In overnight news, video you arent going to see anywhere else of a car deliberately torched in oakland. [ horn honking ] you can hear the horn which wouldnt stop blaring as the flames and the smoke engulfed what was a toyota camry. It all happened just after 11 00 last night in the area of 50th avenue and international boulevard. The owner believes someone threw something into the car to start that fire and fire investigators say the burn pattern suggests this was a case of arson. There are no suspects at this time. In san jose, investigators pinpointed the source of a thanksgiving night fire at a complex of town houses. The fire started in a fireplace as the tenants were trying to keep warm. However, investigators still dont know what caused the flames to spread so fast. That fire displaced 18 people and injured one firefighter who was hurt when part of the ceiling fell on top of him. He does have a concussion and neck injury. Firefighters say that fire is a reminder to all of us to pay extra attention to lights, candles, stoves and fireplaces during the Holiday Season. A distress call from a sinking boat sent rescuers speeding to the waters off the berkeley shore. The call came in just after noon yesterday. That boat was taking in water about 300 yards north of the berkeley pier. Someone on that boat used a cell phone to call 911. The cause of the leak appeared to be a broken seal on the drive shaft. There were eight people on board. They all had personal flotation devices on, so they would have been safe enough in the cold water. Its also pretty calm conditions out here on the bay today, too. Five people left the boat with rescue crews. Three remained on board while the boat was towed to emeryville. In addition to the people, a dog, a cat, and a snake were also found on the boat. Despite walkouts and protests by walmart employees, the retail giant claims it had its best black friday ever, reporting a record 10 million transactions from the time doors opened for black friday. Protesters lined up outside this walmart in san leandro, making it one of hundreds of protests at Walmart Stores nationwide. The lively group encouraged customers to support employees, who are asking for better wages and working conditions. Thats when a man pulled out a gun and started shooting. The victim sustained nonlife threatening injuries. Police are looking for the gunman. Another black friday shooting this, one in colorado. Police are searching for a man who opened fire inside a target store in aurora last night. Police say a man wearing a black ski mask went to the target pharmacy and pulled out a gun, firing one rant into the ceiling, then running away. Witnesses say he is 6 feet tall, white male, weighing about 180 pounds with spiked hair and geat tee. No one was injured. A stockton woman had to be hospitalized on thanksgiving after someone threw a pumpkin at her while she was walking across the street. A white sedan came speeding down the street and someone inside of that car hurled a pumpkin that hit the 51yearold woman who was just standing on the sidewalk. The fairly large pumpkin did hit her in the chest and she had to be taken to the hospital. You got to factor in how fast the car was driving and also the person throwing the pumpkin out of the vehicle. It did strike her right in the middle of the chest. Detectives say the crime is a felony, considered assault with a deadly weapon. Its all still under investigation. This morning, investigators are returning to the site in western massachusetts where a natural gas explosion wiped out a downtown strip club. A camera on top of a nearby building captured the blast right there. Witnesses described it as a Mushroom Cloud of an explosion, big and orange. 18 people were hurt, including nine firefighters, two Police Officers, and four gas workers. Unfortunately, none of the injuries were considered lifethreatening. It felt like it was an impact and it felt like the building was the roof was going to cave in on us and we shook. We just looked at each other, like this cannot be happening. I was right here, just smoking a cigarette. And they went, like, boom utility workers say they tried to clear the area when people smelled a heavy gas odor. A dancer at the strip club was on stage when she was told to evacuate. Everyone did make it out of the building before it was destroyed. Federal investigators are looking into the cause of a plane crash that killed a pilot in the sierra foothills. The small plane went down at mory rasmussen field area. The pilot was the only person on board and his name hasnt been released. Arson has been ruled out in a power plant fire in orrville. The fire was put out yesterday at the plant earlier than expected. The damage is also less than firefighters originally thought. That power plant supplies electricity to pumps used by major water Delivery Systems. Elizabeth smart is writing a memoir about her kidnapping and rescue. Back at age 14, she was snatched right out of her house by a homeless street preacher, sexually abused and nine months later found on a Salt Lake City street. A second suspect is now in custody in connection to a Violent Crime spree in the south bay. It began with an Armed Robbery and included a homicide, as well as a gun battle with police. Reporter sources at the San Jose Police department told me this morning that a second suspect has been arrested. They told me he is a juvenile and was caught in concord. Now, the first suspect, 26yearold Jonathan Wilbanks, was in court wednesday. Police say he and the juvenile just arrested, robbed four businesses, shot and killed 22yearold rory park pedford at a car jacking attempt at a seven eleven and participated in a shootout on november 16th. One of the officers in the shootout was hit and taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Wilbanks was arrested the next morning after standoff in an East San Jose neighborhood. Police released a sketch of the second suspect on monday and offered a 20,000 reward. Again, sources told me this morning he was arrested in concord and is a juvenile. Memorial service for the homicide victim, rory park pedford is being held this morning in campbell. The viewing is going to be held at 10 00 a. M. Followed by the Memorial Service at 11 00. It happened around 4 30 yesterday afternoon on todd road, south of santa rosa. The 33yearold driver, emil smith, drifted off the road and slammed into a tree. A passenger in his car died later at the hospital. Smith was also injured in the collision. Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor. A chp says its maximum Enforcement Campaign this Holiday Season appears to be working. The Highway Patrol reports improving numbers midway through the weekend. San franciscos Fairmont Hotel unveils its annual ginger bread house this morning. This years creation is 22 feet high and 23 feet wide. California is set to ban the chinese delicacy shark fin soup in january, but asian Business Leaders and politicians hope to overturn the measure before it takes effect. Chinese restaurants in San Francisco charge more than 25 a bowl for shark fin soup. They claim the measure is misguided. The current law allows you to have other parts of the shark and thats where the problem comes in. Thats where, as you heard, theres a sense of injustice, sense of discrimination. Often times, its obtained by a fisherman who pull the sharks up on the deck of the ship, actually cut the fins off the animals, then throw them back into the water to slowly die.
