Sal is going to give us some ideas about alter mat routes to get around this mess because we dont know how long the freeway will be shut down. Tuesday, april 28th im pam cook. Good morning, im dave clark. Lets talk about weather and traffic and i can see the fog just pouring in this morning as i was coming in. I bow to a west wind. I know tori does too. Its our natural air conditioning. It is back. Today that will cool town a lot. It looks like that kind of week. Low clouds, cooler, breezy. Mostly sunny to partly sunny. Breezy to down right windy for a few. Low clouds getting helped by cooler water temps. And the weak cold front and lifting everything. San francisco yesterday was 76. Well go 63 slightly below average for this time of year. System will give us a cool down today and tomorrow and then we will get an offshore breeze by thursday. Today its a lot of 50s. Low to mid. Everyone is really close. But 24 gusting to 31. 13 gusting to 21 concord. There will be a much stronger on shore breeze today. The fog returns. Cooler for everybody. I mean top to bottom, west to east you name it. 50s and 60s and 70s for most. There will still be a few low 80s. I saw traffic moving but that was the other direction on 880. That is right. And we are following that breaking news, steve out of the east bay. Steve is talking about this firey multicar crash that has shut down part of interstate 880. This happened about two hours ago and alex savidge is there with the latest. Alex. Reporter sal, good morning to you. Yeah really a frustrating morning for commuters here in the east bay. Let me give you a look at the scene here. You can see the traffic coming toward you. Those are the southbound lanes of 880. As you look beyond that, traffic is at a standstill going in the northbound direction. That is because all the lanes of interstate 880 northbound are shut down and they have been shut down for about an hour and a half or so. Just north of davis street because of this multicar crash. Let me show you video from a short time ago. This was a firey crash that broke out about 3 30 this morning. There was that car that was on fire. Flames shooting from it. We understand that a total of seven cars were involved in this Early Morning crash. It began with one crash and then there was several other Chain Reaction accidents according to the chp. We understand one person had to be freed from their car. Using the jaws of life several people were injured out here. Although the chp cant say exactly what the extent of the injuries are. But the real issue here the freeway closure this morning of cal tran crew was brought in to shut down the freeway for the chp investigation. And essentially what that means as sal you know that it will be a lengthy closure. I asked the chp officer a short time ago how long it could last. 12 how weres is the possibility but certainly could take even longer than that for them to investigate this crash. Yeah and 12 hours on that freeway alex as you know. Alex also grew up in the east bay. We are done with that commute. I would not recommend it at all if you drive from fremont to hayward out to union city. You are just going to be stuck in a world of hurt here on 880. You can use 580 and if you are local you can use other roots around the area. As alex mentioned it will be there for awhile. We also have another accident eastbound 80.
