Reporter the meeting went late last night, but the board did finally make a decision to delay the decision on whether 9th graders should be learning Sex Education out of a book that has content that some parents consider too racy. Now, district representatives did get an ear full from parent hoss were upset that the textbook called your health today makes references to masturbation, sex toys and bondage. They say it is not age appropriate for incoming freshmans at fremonts six high schools who are required to take a health class. The school board wants to work with the books publisher to make some changes in its chapters on Sex Education so that it is more suit to 14 years old. Heres what some students told the board that may have swayed them. You call yourself proasmtions and if this was professionals and if this was any other subject that did not meet code, you would pull it. I dont understand why we have to use this book. Reporter district Officials Say the book has not been used in california high schools before, but only about 20 pages out of the 400 are on sex. They arpged that teachers wouldnt teach every single page, just relevant items. The family and friends of 31 yearold beating victim brian higgins, they hugged and comforted each other at a vigil yesterday afternoon in ose park. He was taken off life support and later died. Higgins was a member of the lgbt group. He was beaten sunday near deboas park. We just want to remember him for the type of person he was. He was very loving, very caring. He was an all around good human being. Now, police say Surveillance Video shows that higgins was beaten by a white man in his 20ss. He was wearing a gray sweatshirt. As the investigation continues, theres no known motive and its not clear yet if this was a hate crime. San Francisco Police are also can asking for help in solving an 8yearold homicide case. 17yearold aubrey racaza was shot and kill on the afternoon of august 14th, 2006 at grove and baker streets. His mother says aubrey had just left their house when he saw two men with guns on the crowded street. Police say those men fired shots at him, but they dont know why. California Waste Solutions has until july to implement the infrastructure necessary to handle all of the citys garbage and recycling collection. Its a task that one councilmember feared they couldnt do. Now the west oaklandbased Company Already collects part of the citys recycling but has yet to take on the full system. Up until now, texasbased Waste Management has held the garbage collection contract. Both Companies Submitted proposals for the contracts which include rate increases. California Waste Solutions came in at 36. 82 a month, about 7 less than Waste Management. City Council Approve the new contract last night in a 71 vote and oaklandbased company says theyre ready for the challenge. Weve worked in this community for 22 years. We believe we always had had the local advantage, we always waste always believed it had the largest advantage because it was the largest Waste Company in america. Reporter the new contract is 27 . I suppose you could say its fitting for the longtime home of the 49ers. And this has been the scene over the last couple of days. Crews have been busy building the massive stage here at the stadium. It will sit on what use to be the 10yardline. The concert promoter says the stick will be going out with a bang tonight. There will be a huge fireworks show, more than 900 pyrotechnics lighting up the night sky. The mccartney concert seems to be a perfect way to say good bye to a place thats created so many memorable moments over the years. It was nearly 50 years ago when the beetles held their last paid concert at candlestick. That was in august of 1966. And now tonight music fans are gearing up for another big show, and in a video message posted on his website, mccartney promised a very special concert. So its going to be a very emotional night, going to be a great night. We are going to rock. I have some very special memories, as you know. A fire last night at a cupertino mall forced the evacuation of a Movie Theater. This happened about 10 30 last night at the valco Shopping Mall on north wolfs road. Firefighters think the fire started on the third floor when equipment overheated in an elevator room. Now, the mall was already closed tow time, but people was closed at the time, but people were still inside in a Movie Theater and a gym. I came here to work out with my friends. We were in the hot tub and all of a sudden i was on facebook and i saw one of my friends posts that there was a fire in valco. The fire was quickly put out by sprinklers. That caused some water damage, but no one was hurt. A man accused of randomly stabbing another passenger on an a. C. Transit bus is due in court today to affect attempted murder charges. The bizarre attack happened monday night while the bus was happening down san pab lo avenue in berkeley. Police say 24yearold eric palmer calmly walked down the bus aisle, pulled out a knife and said watch this before stabbing a young woman who he did not know. Officers arrested palmer as he got off the bus. The woman was seriously injured, but is expected to survive. Time is now 5 34. They are uncertain about what this means for their jobs, but they are union workers, so it is likely that they will just transfer to the new company that now has the contract. As you mentioned, Oakland City Council awarded the 10year, 1 billion contract to west oaklandbased california Waste Solutions. Last night that happened in a 7 1 vote. The company which already collects part of the citys recycling has until july to build the infrastructure necessary to collect all of the trash and recycling. Many supported awarding the contract to the local company which also came in with a lower bid. But Councilmember Noel gillo says he fears the company may not be up to the task. I respect my members vote on it, but at the same time i challenge you in the same effort that you get things done and you dont miss a beat on my block picking up my trash. A tunnel in the hetch hetchy water system may possibly suffer a catastrophic collapse. While it would cut off water to millions of people right here in the bay area. The San Francisco chronicle reports city officials have known for more than two decades that this 19mile tunnel outside of Yosemite National park needs a lot of repairs that could cost more than 100 million. Now, replacing the tunnel, however, would cost 630 million. Officials with the San FranciscoPublic UtilitiesCommission Says the risk of a collapse is low, however, a bay area water agency has raised concerns about the stability of that tunnel. It helps supply the Drinking Water to 2. 6 million homes and businesses right here in the bay area. California voters will soon have their say on a new water bond. Governor brown reached a compromise with lawmakers from both parties while a 7 1 2 bond measure that will be on the november ballot. Penn has been in the hospital for a week and a half. Hell probably have to walk with a cane. Hes a diving instructor. That gunman described as a latino man in his 20s or 30s. The family of the girl run over by First Responders after the Asiana Airlines crash at sfo has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the city of San Francisco. 16yearoldiestminglong was lying on the ground when the firefighters arrived on scene. The National Transportation safety board declare the teen had died after being run over by emergency vehicles. The suit claims rescuers were poorly trained and reckless. The family is seeking unspecified damages. The bay area woman known as a serial stowaway has been ordered to spend six months in jail for violating her probation. Marilyn hartman pled no contest last week to sneaking onto a Southwest Airlines flight from san jose to los angeles. A judge released her an toll her to stay away and told her to stay away from the airport if she didnt have a ticket. The next day she was arrested again at l. A. X. Hartman was given a stayaway order and two years probation after trying at least six times to board planes at sfo. Now, hartman was able to breach security at the airport just a few minutes after a teen hopped a fence there and stowed away on a plane to hawaii. Now a San Jose CityCouncil Committee has voted to schedule a hearing about security at the airport. They want airport staff, tsa and others to explain whats being done. That hearing is set for september 25th. Time now 5 45. The chp cracking down on a rise in car thefts in the east bay. 29 stolen cars were recovered in oakland just this week. The chp says the car thefts are a Law Enforcement priority because finding those vehicles can also help solve other crimes. A lot of the times when we find a vehicle, the occupant has a warrant, maybe theres drugs, maybe theres guns in the cars. Surveillance cameras are also helping with the chp crackdown. Cameras mounted on patrol cars can read license plates and match them up against a database with information about stolen vehicles. This morning some people in Contra Costa County are facing internet problems for a third day in a row. At t says its trying to repair extensive damage to a fiber cable that was cut on tuesday. That knocked out phone and Internet Service to many people in martinez, including county buildings, schools, even the chp offices. The 911 emergency lines were not affected. Once you get over there, it looks okay. If you want to use the san mateo bridge, taking about 10 to 15 minutes to cross that span with no major issues. San mateo bridge actually looks pretty good.
