Thank you. A man in his 70s killed in oakland after being hit by an suv. It happened last night about 10 30 at the intersection of Church Street and bancroft. Alex savage is here now. Reporter a sergeant told me the victim was an elderly man believed to be 75yearold. Police say he was an innocent driver. He was hit by an suv that officers believe was racing away from a shooting scene near by. This happened about 10 30 next to the east mont mall. The victim was driving a Station Wagon that flipped over on its roof. A red suv broadsided the car. It had two men inside that were possibly involved in a shooting. Police say they opened fire on an empty suv back ed back on second avenue. They slammed into the car leaving the driver dead. A sergeant told me that the men were taken into custody and will facing vehicular manslaughter charges at the least. Alex savage, ktvu. Four people detained by police after a high speed chase on interstate 80. The speeds topped 100 miles an hour. It started about 9 00 in elk grove after the chp tried to make a traffic stop. The driver kept going and hit another car before that chase ended. The driver and three passengers were detained. No one was hurt. This morning investigators will return to the scene of a huge fire a Historic Church in oakland. It started yesterday afternoon at the Zion First Church of god and christ near the west oakland bart station. Ktvu news got a look at the inside damage at the 97yearold church. It gutted many cherished items that can never be replaced. The bishop, james watson gave us a tour of the heartbreaking rubble. There was a piano. The organ was right up against the upper level, kind of where that piece is coming up. No one was hurt. Investigators still looking for the cause but it does not appear to be suspicious. Damage is estimated at about 900,000. Peep in palo alto are fed up with Construction Projects they are calling eyesores. Its a spreading problem that caused leaders to take action. Leaders acknowledge theres numerous Construction Projects sitting idol for years because of insufficient funding, poor contractors. The Council Voted to set time limits for Building Permits and how to penalize those responsible for delinquent projects. The city of oakland provide several Mental Health services for police officers. Theres a growing call to do even more in what some call californias most violent city. Conflicts reports about that deadly Shopping Mall take over in kenya. Kenya Authorities Say they have secured the Shopping Mall. One couple, radio broadcasters, were hosting a childrens cooking competition inside the mall when they heard the shooting. We said get down, get down, get down on the floor. Just as we did that the gunman tossed a grenade to where we were. More than 60 people died in the attack. 175 more have been hurt. Still not clear how many people may still be alive inside the mall. Police say its just the latest out break of Gang Violence in chicago which has seen 306 murders this year. Closing arguments set to begin in the Michael Jackson wrongful death case. A jury in los angeles will soon decide whether concert promoter aeg is responsible for the super stars death in 2009. Police in San Francisco looking for suspects in a deadly shooting. The victim, a teenage boy. It had shortly before 10 00 night in the city engel side heights neighborhood. The young victim had just stepped off a train. Sara is live. Reporter we have no motive, no suspect at this point. We know the man was shot and killed as he was getting off the train which stops here at this corner. If you take a look over here behind me, you can see where the crime scene tape is still up near the playground. This unfolded just before 10 00 on the corner of randolph and bright street. Its north of 280 and east of 19th avenue. Police say it appears a 19yearold was taking the train home when someone shot him as he got off the eastbound train. Theres no video cameras that may have captured that shooting. Theres that park. It would appear that the victim was targeted. We havent heard from police yet. The identity of the victim has not been released. Well see what we can dig up this morning for you. We do know that police canvassed the neighborhood last night trying to find any potential witnesses. Were live in San Francisco, im sara moyarte. A man in his 70s is dead after his car was hit by people fleeing an earlier crime scene. Police believe two men were fleeing a scene of a shooting on 82nd avenue. The victim in the car died at the scene. The two men were taken into custody. No one was injured at the scene of the earlier shooting but bullet holes were found in a car in the driveway of a home. About an hour later police found a man suffering from shotgun injuries on 89th. Police have not released information about the victim or suspects. Your time is now 5 33. The little girl was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. Attic ber Point Elementary School in Discovery Bay hundreds of people attended a vigil for a 12yearold boy killed while riding his bike to school yesterday morning. [ music ] family members, friends, parents, teachers say the death of 12yearold burgess hu, a 7th grader, is devastating. He was hit and killed monday morning by a mother who just dropped off her own children at school. People who knew burgess say his smile matched his brilliant mind. If you needed help with anything, if anything needed help he would be the one to be there for you. To help the Community Heal parents will hold another vigil tonight. Some of the friends of burgess will hold a bike ride in his memory this coming sunday. Abandoned construction sites used for drug deals. Theres green tarp. You cant see whats behind that tarp. City leaders said that can be a problem when a construction project comes to a halt for a long period of time. Residents say drugs have been stored and sold. They want it to stop. They say the fence ing ing has been up for over 5 years and no work has been done. The paper reported last night the Council Voted to set time limits for Building Permits and to explore penalties for delinquent projects. They want to crack down on projects that cause traffic, parking, noise and light. Council members say it could prevent safety concerns that lead to unlawful activities. We plan to talk to neighbors about the situation and their reaction to the councils decision. The clock is still ticking towards another possible bart strike. Theres 16 days left until the 60 day cooling off period coming to an end. This morning negotiations are set to resume between bart management and unions. A schedule is now in place for those critical contract talks during the final weeks of the cooling off period. It calls for 10 to 16 days to be discussing the big issues. Bart workers could walk off the job on october 11th if they dont reach a deal. Time now 5 37. Residents in oaklands rock ledge neighborhood worried about rising crime rates. Nine people, including a pregnant woman were robbed by gunmen yesterday morning as they waited for car pool rides. Some escaped by running away. Others say theyre backpacks, purses and wallets and smart phones were stolen. Residents say this is just the latest robbery in the area. The people have been held up leaving the bart station. Following people home from bart or robbing people outside of cafes for their computers and cell phones. So its part of a sad trend. Three suspects so far have been detained in connection with the robberies. Police say car poolers are probably being targeted for their electronic devices. It was a rough game at candle stick park on sunday. Not just for the 49ers who were upset by the Indianapolis Colts 277. Police are also reporting at least two serious incidents of fan violence during sundays game at the stick. Officers say a 15yearold boy suffered a concussion during a fight with a 29yearold man early in the game. Two women were badly hurt during a fight after the game. The fan violence came despite increased stadium security. Tonight the San Francisco giants will hold a fundraiser to pay for the injury costs for fan bryan stow. 10 from every ticket will go towards the bryan stow fund. He was brutally beaten on opening day in 2011. A big donation coming to uc San Francisco. A 30 million donation will be used to pay the education and Living Expenses for students pursuing doc rats and sciences. They are planned to announce the plan today. The university has kicked in another 25 million to supplement that contribution. They plan to raise 5 million to create an endowment fund. A new concern for the Oakland Police department. How two recent incidents are prompting calls from the city to protect officers. New information about that man behind that wae that washington what yard navy rampage. The Washington Navy yard gunman lied on his application for a security clearance but he was given one anyway. In 2007 when aaron alexis enlisted in the navy he never revealed he was arrested in seattle in 2004 for shooting out the tires of a parked car. He never revealed a string of bad debts on the form he filled out to get his security clearance. Investigators who interviewed and questioned alexis about those admissions ended up granting that security clearance. Just about an hour from right now in new york president obama is scheduled to address the United Nations general assembly. Theres been some speculation president obama may actually meet facetoface on the sidelines of the un gathering new information about iran president ruhani. Another woman has died in colorados historic and devastating flooding. Eight people have now been killed in the flooding. Six others are still listed as missing. Nearly 2,000 homes are damaged or destroyed along with more than 200 miles of state highways and 50 state bridges. As colorado rebuilds from the floods some survivors are becoming the victims of thieves. In one Mobile Home Park three homes were burglarized. That number is expected to grow. The Colorado National guard is stepping ping in to help to keep watch over damaged neighborhoods. A 2yearold boy attacked and killed by as many as five dogs. It happened in colton last night. The dogs have been taken out of their homes. They are believed to be pit bull mixes. A grass fire in Southern California threatening several homes this morning. It started in the mountains yesterday. It burned almost 200 acres so far. Evacuations were or ed ordered late last night. The cause is still under investigation. Federal researchers are working on a sort of richter scales for wild fires. It will be similar to hurricane and earthquakes. It will range from an e1 to e4. It will measure how intense a wild fire is burning into the area. Researchers say it will help City Planners assign better building codes. Fremont police a investigating the assault of two people who mocked their attackers for being deaf. It happened friday night at the fremont bart station. A group of deaf men approached and asked for cigarettes. One admitted to mocking the group. Pg e has been sued again. They were sued by a shareholder who said executives paid themselves bonuses while they ignored Pipeline Safety issues. They put profit above safety and should pay for legal fees and other costs related to the explosion and fire that killed eight people in 2010.
