But we are going to go out to alex savidge. Alex has been following this crash that shut down part of 880 on the san leandro border. The lanes are open now; right . Let me show you the scene. The traffic that is heading away from you, that is northbound traffic here on 880 just north of davis street. That is where this accident happened very early this morning. As you can see all the lanes are open now but traffic earlier this morning was at a complete standstill. Heres why. Let me show you video of this crash it happened just after 3 00 this morning. One car burst into flames. Huge flames were shooting from this car. First responders came in. They had to use the jaws of life to free another person that was trapped inside another car. There were a total of seven cars involved in this accident. What im told by the chp is initially there was one crash and then there were a couple other crashes following the initial crash. Now according to the Alameda County Fire Department a total of five people were hurt out here in this accident. One of them was critically injured. And cal trans crew did come in to close down the freeway for the chp investigation. Traffic was being diverted off the freeway. Off of 880 at davis street for a time. Just after 5 00 this morning the freeway did reopen to traffic and i just got off the phone a short time ago with a member of the chp and he told me at this point they dont have a cause for this accident. They dont know exactly why that initial accident took place but sal i was told no one has been arrested. No one has been cited at least for thus far. Alex savidge reporting live in san leandro. Baltimores mayor is calling it one of the cities darkest days. Reporter joel live in baltimore this morning with more on the violence. I no you said it seems like people are going back to work as usual but what is the National Guard doing right now . You know state of emergency was in fact declared in the city of baltimore and as part of that the National Guard was called out and i will have my photographer phil is doing a tremendous job all morning. Pan over here to the front of Baltimore City hall. Its not a site you see every day. There are armored humvees. As you can see heavily armed National Guardsmen along with Baltimore City police. Sort of an eerie scene. That is not the only police. There are other humvees and heavily armed vehicles. Between 1500 and 5,000 National Guardsmen are expected to show up here in baltimore. Additionally 500 state troopers were deployed and governor is requesting 5,000 Additional Police officers on top of that. So really in the last 24 hours or so weve seen a tremendous increase in the Law Enforcement presence here. People are hoping that can help stem some of the anticipated rioting that may take place again tonight. Pam. And joel earlier you told us something that sounded really scary that there are some gangs that are taking part in combining to take out Police Officers. Reporter pam, that is a credible threat that the Baltimore Police commissioner got. He revealed that yesterday saying that rival gangs like the bloods and the crypts are actually working together now and one of their goals is to take out Law Enforcement officials and officers and therefore the police chief here as you can very well understand is taking that extremely seriously. That is why we are seeing the tremendous step up in Law Enforcement presence. Joel, we hear schools are closed in the area. What are other precautions being taken to keep people safe . Reporter as i mentioned, were out right in front of a main drag which is out of the cameras view again. But people are heading back to work. As you mentioned, school is canceled today. That was done preemptively yesterday. Some of the School Children are the ones that are pointing fingers at. So there is an internal debate going on within the Community Whether it was good to leave the students home with their parents to keep an eye on them or maybe they should have had school to keep them occupied. Obviously well all know the ants to that if anything is incited later in the day. For now this early in the morning things are realtively calm still. Certainly not an easy decision to make. Joel in baltimore we will be staying on the story all morning and all day. Thank you for that update. Here in the bay area about 100 people marched last night through downtown oakland. I have been doing this for ten years but you still have 14 states that deny this constitutional right. So for me its a personal journey and one that im very, very honored to participate in. Reporter with same sex marriage already legal in california i guess there are theoretical implications for a state like california. There are two questions that will be asked of the Court Whether or not to recognize a marriage that is legally sanctioned in one state. Will it be recognized in another state that doesnt legally sanction marriage. If both of those are are yes effected, it bares the question what happens to the 14 Court Decisions that advance Marriage Equality in 22 states and it extended that. There is an extreme concern it could impack californias decision as well. Related to prop 8. That is an exception to most of the legal pantry. But this has legal implications. We always watch Anthony Kennedy and any case that comes out of a Supreme Court. He wrote the windsor decision. He is seen as a pivotal figure in all of this. Hes critical. But im hopeful. Its a civil rights moment. In a 1967 blacks couldnt marry white. I would hope this is more than a bipar decision. Nor i will tell you if youre Justice Roberts and others, you know what side of history this is. Do you want to be on the right side or the wrong side . I dont know it may be more than just kennedy that is in play here today. Reporter Lieutenant Governor thank you very much. These oral arrangements will be length think today. 2. 5 hours.
