We continue to follow that breaking news out of france where an extensive search and rescue operation is under way after a plane crashed in the french alps. It is unlikely that anyone survived. That plane was operated by the german wings budget airlines. It was enroute from barcelona spain to germany. The search and rescue operation expected to be extremely long and difficult due to the remote location of the crash. The plane sent a distress signal before that crash. Lufthansa posted a statement on twitter. We do not know what has happened to the flight. My deepest sympathy goes to the family and friends of our passengers and crew. If our fears are confirmed, this is a dark day for lufthansa. We hope to find survivors. Now to developing news coming in from San Francisco right now. Police are still out there searching for an escaped inmate. Ktvu fox 2 alex savidge is live. Youre outside the hall of justice and you say this escaped inmate is not wearing his jail jump suit. Yeah, dave, good morning to you. After making his escape last night from the hall of justice, this inmate apparently ditched his orange jail jump suit and was last seen wearing his boxer shorts. The search actively continuing. Sheriffs deputies look into the south of market neighborhood for this man. He is 56, 180 pounds. He escaped from the hall of justice last night at about 8 45. A deputy was escorting santiago gonzalez to the basement to take out the trash when the inmate took off. The deputy chased after him but couldnt catch up to him. We understand he is being held on a u. S. Marshals hold for drug and drug trafficking. And we understand that the Sheriffs Department dealt with a similar escape last june here at the hall of justice when an inmate ran off while taking out the trash. The big rig was filled with 20 tons of gravel. It was parked along shell avenue when it toppled over. It landed on top of a car that was parked in a driveway killing a 32yearold woman who was inside that car. Neighbors say they called 911 and ran over to help as soon as they saw what happened. It was terrible. It was like metal on metal scraping real loud and men yelling oh my god. No, no, no. And then heard a big crash and then i heard a horn honking. There are reports a woman was not just sitting in the car, she was asked to move the car got in and was ready to move and that is what happened. Family and friends have identified the woman as lindsay combs. She was a mother. She worked as a hairstylist. The truck driver asked her to move the car just before the accident. Tempers boiled over in San Francisco at a Community Meeting about last weeks officer involved shooting where a woman was killed. Alice brown was shot after she fled police into a stolen car. And police say she endangered lives. Even aiming the car at Police Officers. However, critics say the police should not have used deadly force. Now police chief greg suhr told the crowd that officers only used their guns after brown repeatedly ignored orders to stop. The suspect continued gunning the vehicle and trying to get it back into drive or into a gear to move it forward. At which point both officers discharged their firearms fearing she might make it to venice avenue crowded with st. Patrick day people. Brown had woman felony warrants for her brown had two felony warrants for her arrest. A different San Francisco Police Shooting was the focus of a protest yesterday outside the mission district. Protestors marked the First Anniversary of the shooting death of 28yearold alex nieto. Police say officers responded to reports of a man acting erratically. Nieto was shot after the taser he was holding was mistaken by for a handgun. The four officers involved were cleared of wrong doing. The protestors are demanding a federal investigation. After protesting about bullying, the School Administrators and get nothing results, they decided to go after the bullies on their own. Their son is also facing charges for helping to initiate the fight. An investigation is under way after a woman claimed she found needles in two as she bought at a Southern California grocery store. A new plan to add solar panels at sacramento airport it is causing some major concerns. Now its a plan that would save the airport 15 million in energy costs. But some people are worried the panels will attract birds which can pose dangers to planes. Airport Officials Say people shouldnt worry about the solar panels attracting birds. The president of france says its not likely anyone survived. That plane was operated by lufthansa. There were 150 people on board according to the airline. That is a higher number than what we first heard reported. The plane did send out a distressed signal. People on the ground heard a loud noise moments before the crash. The airline has set up a toll free phone number. Its the kind of plane that crashed. Its being called a workhorse of modern aviation. Its similar to a boeing 737. The jets are used to connect cities that are 15 hours apport. Worldwide there are 3600 air bus 320s currently flaying. These planes have a pretty good safety record. Lufthansa has been ranked the Top Ten Airlines for safety in the world. Now to our developing news out of vallejo where an active search is under way for a missing woman who could be held for ransom. Two College Students from the north bay are getting the experience of a lifetime. Mary madison and alex attend sonoma state university. Two of their short films have been selected for the Film Festival in the south of france. Their short films are action thrillers. They were picked out of thousands of entries.
