Two young men in their 20s were killed near a park in livermore yesterday. Last night Police Detained a man who they believe may be connected to the shooting. Katie utehs is joining us from livermore. You talked to a friend of one of the victims. Reporter i did. He showed up very early to pay his respects after learning what had happened. He said both of the men were young in their early 20s and one was a father. The shooting happened around 4 30 last night in the neighborhood along the park near altamont creek and Winding Stream drive. Livermore Police Say Three men got into a verbal argument and someone called 911. By the time officers arrived, they found two men shot, one of them already dead. The second man died later at the hospital. The Shooter Police believe fled in a vehicle. Now as we said this morning a friend of the victims came to the scene to pay his respects. He is glad police have detained someone who has been related to the case. I dont want to go into details but from what i have heard ux the person that was involved and what happened they were served justice. At this point we believe it is one suspect and it was related to, they knew each other. What the relationship is we dont know for sure. Reporter around 9 00 last night officers received a tip as to the possible shooters location. They detained a man near the spring town golf course but wouldnt release any additional details. Police tell us this is normally a quiet neighborhood. Neighbors very concerned last night but it appears to be an isolated incident. Officers have all of their resources here in livermore on this case. They tell us every detective is working this case and police plan to hold a press conference this morning. But at that point we may learn the identity of the victim and if that person that is detained is indeed a suspect. Pam, dave. Reporter certainly an evolving story. After a 12 hour Search Police in hayward arrested a man they believe shot at a police officer. The 27yearold was taken into custody yesterday afternoon. Authorities say he fired at an officer near whiten avenue and soto road following a traffic stop at 2 00 a. M. Investigators say the suspect pulled over, got out of the car, fired at the officer and ran away. The officer was not hit and shot back. A woman who lives in the area says she was forced to leave her home as police searched for the gunman. They were just like you need to get out now. I said i have a newborn baby. I need to grab pampers. So we had no choice but to leave. Suspect was tracked down on dstreet by a swat team. Police dogs and helicopters. He may be connected to another shooting in hayward saturday night. Your time is 6 05. Oakland family mourning the shooting death of 14yearold devon ellis who was killed saturday night. Tara moriarty is live in oakland and you say the police are still searching far motive tara. That is right. And you know devon ellis was simply walking with his friends when he was gunned down right here on the sidewalk. He is just 14 years old. A student at oakland tech high school. There is a football that has been signed for him and a Football Jersey and tons of flowers and candles. Devons mother was too upset to talk to us on camera his uncle tells us he was a talented athlete that was doing well in school. It was a 12inch main and broke around 8 30 on roanoke street. The streets filled with water and mud. It also disrupted service on munis j church line. Westbound san jose avenue was shut down for several hours as crews were out there cleaning up the mess. No one lost their Water Service in that area but the San FranciscoUtility Commission they are investigating the cause of that water main break. A new report finds that the cause for fixing leaks on the new eastern span of the bay bridge has topped 1 million. The chronical says it obtained documents showing engineers decided to eliminate a back up drainage system on the bridge. According to the report the change allowed water to leak into the support structure of the bridge. The chronicle also says although cal tran has used 1. 4 million of toll payer money to fix the leak, tolls have gob up. Current state average for regular gas 3. 39. Up 0. 02 from yesterday. Last week drivers were paying 2. 95 a gallon. And a month ago most of us were paying about 1 less than what we are now. Now a bystander posted this video of the confrontation taken with a cell phone in the background you see several officers surrounding a man. Police say they were responding to a robbery call. That is when police say the man grabbed for a Police Officers gun. I have my phone out. Video taping the whole thing when he fell and then the officer hollered he is going for my gun. And so after that but he on the ground though. Some are questioning the use of deadly force in this case. The investigation is just beginning. Police say they are talking to witnesses and searching for more Surveillance Video to help them with the investigation. Nearly a year after the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines flight 370 there is still no sign of that missing jet miner. The plane vanished on march 8th, 2014 with 239 people on board. The search continues in a remote area of the indian ocean. Despite the disappearance and downing of another jet over the ukraine in july, malaysia says its seeing a rise in tourism. Tourism grew nearly 10 . Meanwhile they are testing a new method for tracking planes over remote areas. Controllers will record aircraft position by satellite every 15 minutes as opposed to the Current System of 30 of 40 minutes. If the plane seems to be deafuating off course, the tracking would increase to every five minutes or less. There was a midair incident that temporarily delayed a flight from oakland to maui. Airport Officials Say the flight was still gaining altitude yesterday when the plane hit a flock of sand piper birds. The pilot told passengers what was going on and out of precaution he turned around and went back to oakland airport. Any type of bird strike is a serious event. You want to make sure you check out any kind of damage. The crews out there spent several hours checking out that plane. The flight did resume, passengers did make it safely to maui. Bell would have loved the community spirit. A Memorial Service will be held later this morning for bay area journalist dori maynard. Its set for 11 00 a. M. The memorial will be held at the chapel of the chimes in oakland. Maynard was president of the Maynard Institute founded by her father robert. The former owner of the oakland tribune. She was known for her tireless work to increase diversity in journalism. She died at the age of 56. A landmark east bay theater was giving away pieces of its history. Seats that were once in the uc theater on University Avenue in berkeley they were up for grabs yesterday. The theater opened in 1917. It closed in 2001. For years it hosted older classic movies and midnight showings of the rocky Horror Picture Show with full participation by the audience. A 27yearold man waiting to be extradited from arizona to Sonoma County to face charges in the brutal killing of an 84 yearold woman in penngrove. Victor silva is one of two men arrested over the weekend in connection with olga dinellis death. Silva was arrested after a wild police chase. Officers say he was with an unidentified woman. Officers fired shots at the. When the suspect crashed a woman pulled out a gun and an officer shot and killed her. Now olga lived with her brother larry on a ten acre ranch in a quiet Sonoma County town. Last thursday she was found dead in the home which had been totally ransacked. Her brother was visiting friends for his 75th birthday when his sister was killed. Larry dinelli told ktvu news the two had little value in their 100yearold farmhouse. Even though there is nothing here, there is no reason to kill somebody. It doesnt make sense. S whole thing doesnt make sense. My sister was a saint. Couldnt ask for a better woman. Her brother says olga was vibrant and healthy and enjoyed going to church and going shopping. He described her as a giving person who still had a lot to offer. Four people died, four others have major injuries after a head on crash in santa cruz county. It was all reported around 8 00 last night. A car on freedom boulevard crossed into on coming traffic and collided with a truck. There were seven people in the car and the chp says none of them were wearing seat belts. The driver and two passengers were pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the truck died at the hospital. The chp says it appears alcohol or drugs were a factor in that crash. Potholes, cracks, and pumps in the road. Ktvu fox 2 reporter janine de la vega is joining us from san jose to talk about the findings and what is being done about it. Janine. Reporter here along park avenue you can see there are a lot of cracks in the road and this cost drivers money. It wears out tires and vehicles are more susceptible to needing repairs. A report showed that 60 of the streets here in san jose are so worn out that expensive repairs are needed. Roads need to be maintained every ten years but the audit found san jose has never met that goal due to insufficient funding. Just 38 of just 30 of san jose roads received maintenance within the last decade. The Commission Found san jose ranks 79 out of 109 bay area cities for Road Conditions. Its a huge problem because the city cannot keep up. The department of transportation estimates it would cost 504 million to repair. San jose relies on state gas taxes, county vehicle registration fees but the auditor says its not enough and recommends that city officials develop a plan to include a onetime funding source.
