Right off of mccarthur. Where you can see the memorial here on the sidewalk to honor a well known rapper who friends say always stayed humble. The jacka was a well known bay area rapper that got their first start. Their albums made it on to billboard hip hop charts and launched a solo career in 2001. His real name was dominic newton. He was originally from pittsburg in the east bay. The shooting happened just after 8 00 last night. This area was blocked off with crime scene tape. He rushed outside when he heard gunfire. He is one of the most humble people i have ever met in my life. He gives you the shirt off his back and shoes off your feet. Reporter on social media they are all paying tribute using the ripjacka. There is a 20000 reward on the table for any information. Friends believe this memorial here will only continue to grow as we move throughout the day. Back to you. Time 16 04. San Francisco Police are investigating four violent Home Invasion robberies in the city. They have happened in the last few days. The latest just last night. Brian flores is in San Francisco at Police Headquarters. And brian, tell us that the robbers ended uptaking in these. Yeah. The robbers took various things. San Francisco Police busy over the weekend. Now the latest one happened adds you mentioned just after 8 00 p. M. Last night. Police that were armed with a gun entered and forced two of the People Living there with a gun. Police say People Living there were not hurt. The robbers ended up getting away with a firearm. And then this was the scene last friday. Our crew was there on the 100 block of fair listen in the citys ocean view neighborhood. A man first entered the home unknowingly to the woman living there but soon left. And then 30 minutes later a woman knocked on the door and asked to use the restroom. The victim let her in. Before she knew it, they pulled a knife on the victim. Placed a blanket over her head and forced her to sit down on a chair. They got away with cash, jewelry, and cell phones. The victim was also hit in the head but she is also doing okay. Heres a map where the other robberies took place. Another one happened around 7 30. The victim there an 85yearold man. Another Home Invasion on sunday at 5 30 in the morning off buchanan street. The victim a woman was also reportedly punched in the stomach and her mouth taped up by the robbers who ended up getting away with cash. At this point san Francisco Police do not believe the Home Invasion robberies are connected but they are asking anyone witnesses to come forward. Pam, back to you. Very scary, thank you. All right 6 06 is the time. Developing news out of san jose. Fire crews have contained a fire that forced the evacuation of an assisted living home. It started on donahue drive in the eastern part of the city just before 4 00 a. M. Investigators say it started as a car fire and then spread to the garage and that is when the caretaker for some of the disabled residents inside the home were awakened by his neighbor. My roommate came running through the house. Saying weve got to get out. The neighbor says your car is on fire. And at that point all i needed was a pair of pants and the door. Fire crews were able to control the fire before it spread to the home and no one was hurt. Fire officials in San Francisco are urging people to take safety precautions in the wake of three apartment fires in the city in the last week. A four alarm fire at mission and 22nd killed one man and sent six other people to the hospital. Two more apartment fires broke out in San Francisco in the following days. Although the causes of the fire are under investigation, firefighters say all three could have been prevented. They say people should never leave food on the stove, candles burning, and you should not disconnect smoke detectors. By this Time Next Year san leandro will have an armored ambulance that the police or medical workers can use. The City Council Approved buying it despite pretty loud objections from some in the community. Critics say its designed for the military. Not for a civilian police department. They say its an ambulance but as we know. We dont want to see it. Offers the ballistic protection so we can get firefighters, so we can get paramedics and First Responders in close to a scene. A former radio shack employee is charged with stealing nude photos from a customers cell phone. 24yearold jose miranda appeared in court but did not enter a plea. The woman in San Francisco says she took her phone to the store in november to fix a cracked screen. In january while using her tablet which was sinked up to that phone, she discovered that more than a dozen photos on the phone had been texted to an unfamiliar number. That lawsuit says miranda admitted to stealing the photos. Google may be get into the ride sharing business. He was also arrested for allegedly biting the harbor masters finger during a very heated argument. Knight is due in court to face murder charges. Knight killed one man and injured another with his truck last week in southern california. It happened after an argument on a movie set. Meantime Alameda County sheriffs deputies are searching for a man suspected of sexually assaulting an eightyearold girl in a 0. 99 store. The Sheriffs Department released this surveillance photo. Investigators say the man attacked the girl at a 0. 99 store in unincorporated hayward sunday african. The girls mother was shopping in another aisle when that assault occurred. She was playing in the toy aisle a man approached her and forced his hand down her pants. Investigators say they are concerned this may not be the first time this man has done this. The Sheriffs Department wants you to look at this picture. They are warning everybody with kids closely watch them and they are asking if you see or recognize the suspect call them. More than 90 people have been infected with measles statewide. And here in the bay area there are more than a dozen cases. Berkeley Health Officials are calling for action. And Tara Moriarty is joining us now from berkeley to tell us what they are asking parents to do. Tara. Reporter public Health Officials are asking parents to get their children vaccinated. And that is because if measles pops up at a school and unvaccinated children are there, they want to send them home for 21 days. That is the length of the incubation period for measles. Same story goes for schools in marin county. Children who develop a rash or fever should not be sent to class and should be evaluated by a doctor. Measles is highly contagious. You is a 90 chance of getting it if someone in your home has it. And that is because it is an airborne virus and can linger in the air for two hours. We spoke to a berkeley man who says he thinks the schools plan is a little too drastic. I think turning into a militarized zone excluding x and y for the greater good. I dont think there is a cause for that. There must be some other way to implement precautionary measures without ostracizing children. Some high profile politicians are taking sides in the debate over vaccination. Last night Hillary Clinton stated her views on twitter. She said quote the science is clear. The earth is round, the sky is blue, and vaccines work. Lets protect all of our kids. She added randmothersknowbest. She is considered the early front runner for the president ial nomination in 2016. Now this talk of measles comes after two likely republican president ial candidates new Jersey Governor Chris Christie and kentucky senator rand paul both said they support parents having a choice on vaccinations. Rand paul who is a doctor says im not antivaccine at all but most of them ought to be voluntary. He added that parents should have some input. Governor Chris Christie made similar remarks while in britain touring a factory that makes vaccines. I also know that parents need to have a choice in things. That is the balance the governor has to decide. Now governor Christies Office later clarified the governor thinks there is no question children should be vaccinated against the measles. There is a growing concern about a popular plaza in San Franciscos Castro District. Some say its become a magnet for bad behavior. We were out there when police broke up a fight between a homeless couple at market and castro. They ended up arresting a woman on charges of domestic violence. Some of the neighbors say things like this is happening more often. They say other problems include dangerous dogs, drug dealing, and litter. Its just an unfortunate waste of space. Its a really great spot. It was once a nice Gathering Spot and now its transitioned. There is a lot of people that are not homeless and come out here and garbage everything like after they are done with the bars. After the bars are closed and drunk they come out here and throw their trash. And the homeless get blamed for it. There was a Community Meeting about this whole issue. Some include Power Washing the plaza more often and banning people from leaving their belongings all over the plaza. Today San Jose CityCouncil Members will consider a five year plan to end homelessness in santa clara county. According to san jose insider. Com they plan to end homelessness by 2020. Developing new ways to house the homeless, developing a specific plan for each person. One of the goals for the coming here is to identify unused public land to convert into housing. Today is the deadline for prosecutors to file charges against a man who was arrested in connection with those body parts found in a suitcase on a San Francisco street. Police searched for more evidence yesterday. The suitcase was found last wednesday outside of a good will store. Police say they are not ruling out the possibility that the person was killed somewhere outside the city. 59yearold mark andrews was arrested friday in connection with the case. He is being held on suspicion of murder. From the midwest to the northeast people are digging out from another big snowstorm. Parts of massachusetts got more than a foot of new snow and this follows last weeks storm that dumped three feet of snow on many states.
