We are looking at traffic thats getting busier on this thursday, especially at the toll plaza but all over the east bay, the toll plaza commute is backed up for about a 15minute delay before you make it on to the span unless you use the car pool lanes. No problems on the bridge reported by chp. This is a live look at interstate 880. You can see for yourself it is looking good. They have cleared the lanes of this crash on 238 at 880 but its still there in the gore point. 238 traffic is slow. So is 580. 580 through Castro Valley. So this is one of those commutes where you have to give yourself extra time this morning. We also had earlier problems on the senol grade. Theres some remnants on the right shoulder. 680 coming out of pleasanton is slow. Once you get to freemont or joining the commute in freemont it looks okay. Lets take a look at the commute or ill tell you that the san mateo bridge traffic is looking good. Lets go back to the desk. Early in the morning but happening right now, a very loud cleanup going on in a menlo park neighborhood after the Big Tree Branch came crashing down and knocked down power lines as well. They have finished the chain sawing of this large branch that came crashing down. A pile of it remains in the roadway but right now all thats left to do is a little sweeping and then get this roadway back open. This is laurel in menlo park. This branch came crashing down about 4 00 this morning. Let me show what you it looked like a little bit earlier. There were some safety concerns out here this morning because when that tree branch came crashing down, it took power lines, cable lines telephone lines all down with t. They had to wait for pge to get on scene. They did get out here just after 5 00 this morning. We were able to turn off power to the power line and then cleanup got under way. They had to chainsaw this large branch apart. To get the roadway back open. In terms of people affected, there is still power out here. They did have to turn off power to the one home where this tree is located. But as you can see, if we come back out here live, a couple of things. The tree branch falling forward really just took out the power line. It did not affect the home or that car parked in the driveway so thats good news for the homeowner. Theyve talked to the person there and everyone is fine inside. Now once they get this swept up and cleaned you, theyll be able to get laurel back open to traffic. At least six people say that it happened to them while they were driving on highway 101. A ktvu viewer frank kole took this photo of his shot out window near the mckee road exit. The suspect at the center of an armed standoff at a gated compliewnlty in san ramon is community in san ramon is in jail this morning. It happened yesterday afternoon at a home on ashborn circle. The suspect shot a property manager in the leg while sheriffs deputies were trying to serve a foreclosure eviction notice. The shooting immediately led to a lockdown of that neighborhood and a fourhour standoff. We continued attempting to negotiate and enter into a dialogue with the suspect. It kept breaking down at which time we decided to introduce gas into the residence. About 5 to 10 minutes later the suspect came out and surrendered. The wounded property manager now listed in stable condition. No one else walls hurt. Authorities havent told us the name of the suspected gunman yet. Happening today, the Washington Navy yard is reopening this morning three days after the mass shooting that killed 12 people, plus the gunman. Workers are returning to their jobs. Police say his death may be a suicide. This is the third body found in petaluma in the past month. Its certainly has grown since we first brought you the live pictures at 4 30 this morning. The fire started just about 90 miles northwest of oklahoma city. Some homes in the area have been evacuated now. Also right now, its not clear what caused the fire, but there are so far no reports of any injuries. Fire Officials Say they do plan to let this fire burn itself out to avoid causing even more problems by pouring water on to chemicals. 6 14 is the time right now. Emergency crews say the number of missing people from colorado floods stands at about 200. The number is down from a high of 1200 late last week. More man 7200 homes and businesses were damaged in the two hardest hit counties. Westbound if youre coming in from tracy, we have slow traffic into livermore. Then 580 to 680 recovering from earlier problems. Remember, we had some earlier issues on 238 and 580 through Castro Valley. The y is very slow. 880 southbound slowing approaching 8th street in hayward. Law enforcement in the south bay investigating several terrifying incidents happening on the roads. Jeanine de la vega is in san jose right now to explain last nights scare for some drivers out there. Jeanine . Reporter no doubt this was scary for drivers as they were taken by surprise after having something hurled at them and their car. The california Highway Patrol is investigating and says this was happening in the southbound lane of 101. A ktvu viewer took this photo. Frank kole was driving near the mckee road exit when his windshield was shattered. The window smashing started happening at 6 00 last night on 101 near the mckee exit. The latest occurred at 10 00 p. M. Near 101 and capital expressway. Officers were sent out to search for suspects but did not find anyone. They did take reports and will be following up on this string of incidents which they take very seriously. They say they dont know what caused the damage. It could have been someone throwing objects or shooting bbs at cars while standing up above. The chp says its a major safety issue because it could injure a driver and cause a major accident. The coronado bridge has something similar to this, but in terms of the safety impact of this movable concrete barrier, its only positive. As you take a look at the traffic thats coming into the city this morning, as you know for years people have complained of the risk of driving inches away from oncoming traffic. That could change, though, if both the Golden Gate Bridge committee and full board put it to a vote. The committee expected to vote today with the board voting tomorrow. Theyre expected to approve it. 110,000 cars cross the bridge emp day say bridge official every day say bridge officials. The only thing separating drivers is the row of yellow plastic tubes that would change the concrete and steel movable barrier which is a food white, 32 inches high and 11,000 feet long. The whole idea is to prevent headon collisions. Its taken some sometime. We had to do a feasibility study. We didnt have money. Then we had to do the full environmental clearance which took five years. Were here. Were at the point where we can now purchase the barrier. And they say it would take about 52 hours to complete.
