But you also have to wait for the metering lights which have turned on. North and southbound, more people on the road. You can definitely tell more people are on the road here. We do have a crash in san jose, northbound 101 at mckey. We had an earlier crash. Pull the maps back a little bit. You can see where those indicators are. We just heard of a crash in the area of the monta guy expressway right about here. Chp hasnt put up an indicator. Supposedly there blocking one of the lanes. At 6 02, lets go back to the desk. Claw dean wrong has video of the suspects. Claw dean youre in the grand Lake Neighborhood where shopkeepers are telling you these crimes are happening too often. Reporter thats right. Robbers are a problem out here. Police acknowledge theres been an increase in robberies. This business was prepared. Warning people that it does when it got robbed last night, it was all caught on video. Take a look at this surveillance video, and you can see a man in a white shirt walking casually up to the door. The owner of the store was in back. He said the date and time on the Surveillance System was incorrect. This was actually last night, about 7 30. I was in the back straightening up clothes, you know, doing my normal chores at the end reporter he wasnt at the front counter. The video shows the man jogging up, grabbing the laptop. Then, just like that, hes gone. I looked up, saw someone dashing out of the door. When someone bolts out the door that fast, its not because their pizza is burning in an oven somewhere. Its theyre stealing something. Reporter he gets out the door. Appears he is not alone. Another man, also walking up, watches the first man, then runs off with him. Seconds later, you see the owner of the store racing out the door, trying to get his laptop back. After he made a lot of noise. I rushed out after them, and they made a bolt straight across into a getaway car that they had parked waiting at the corner over to go on to 580. Reporter he said they got into a cadillac. All took just about 9 seconds for the first time we see the suspect to when its all over. The owners still hoping the two are caught, hoping to get that laptop back. Thankful hopefully it will shake some, you know, leaves out of the tree, and so we can get these guys and, you know, report them, because these little crimes like this just turn into bigger crimes. Reporter Oakland Police have increased their presence in this area over the last few months. They were out here to take a report pretty quickly. Theres a break in the case of that young girl killed in a shooting as she leapt at a friends house. Police released this sketch of a man suspected of killing Alicia Carradine and wounding two other children and a grandmother. Suspect described as an African American man between 17, 24 years old, 5 feet, 7 inches tall. Now on the evening of july 17th, someone rang a doorbell at a home on wilson street. The gunman then shot about 7 times, killing little alicia, wounding her friend, a fouryearold boy and a 63yearold woman. We want to find this person and remove them from our streets. This is a dangerous person. If they shoot children, what else would they in our community. A 35,000 reward is being offered to solve this case. An actionpacked morning about to begin. The skills used to fight crime are being put to the test as they compete against other swat teams in california. Georgia mean in san jose this morning to tell us why its more than just a competition. Georgia mean . Reporter pam, were here in the hills of south san jose at the sheriffs range where 30 swat teams are going to be competing for the title of best in the west. Now, this is an opportunity for these deputies and swat members to hone their skills and then take that experience back with them to their respective cities. Now lets go to some video from a competition a past competition hosted by the Santa Clara CountySheriffs Office. Been that way for the past 21 years. Enables swat teams to train for free and be put into a series of different scenarios they would experience in real life. Swat team members from san jose, San Francisco, alameda county, gill roy, is a lee that, as far as los angeles will come out here, be put through these rigorous courses. How to handle numerous shooters as they come up on a marijuana grow. They dont see the courses. They dont know whats coming. Theyll have to react to whats out here. We set the courses up so theyre very realistic. We dont make things that would not happen in real life. Its a good time. Reporter with budget cuts in various departments throughout the bay area, organizers of the event say this training is critical. Now the event is closed off to the public for safety and liability reasons, because, again, theres going to be a lot of shooting going on up here. Six different courses. Theyre going to go through a jungle trail. A sniper competition. Lots of action up here in the next couple of hours. Opening ceremonies start at 7 00 a. M. , and the actual competition begins at 8. Reporting live from san jose, georgia mean delavega, ktvu news. Firefighters are making progress against that wildfire on mount diablo. Right now the fire is about 80 contained. Evacuation orders have been lifted along with the road closures. Several small out buildings did burn, but no homes were destroyed. Two engine. Youre listening to emergency radio communications. They are now revealing just how quickly that fire in mount diablo changed from a manageable grass fire to an out of control wildfire. Firefighters initially believed that fire was almost out, canceled calls for additional engine. Then they received calls about a second fire burning. Cal fire backal indian chief mike martin said the first firefighter on the scene acted appropriately. Thought he had one fire. He had one column of smoke. He reported what he had. He went to work. Then he was made aware of a second smoke. Some homeowners have questioned whether budget cuts have played a role in the fire response. Contra costa countys fire station 11 has been partially closed for financial reasons, and did not have a crew available on sunday. Now the wildfire on mount diablo raising concerns now about erosion. Reporter over the summer, police said there had been an increase in robbers, a 30 increase from last year, had talked about new taxes, different strings to try to stop that trend. Police in east pal low alto say two teenagers were shot last night in what appears to be a case of road rage. Police were called to a house on farrington way. They found a 16 and a 17year old who had been shot. Both were treated for nonlife threatening injuries. An investigation indicates the motive here was road rage. We dont have specifics yet, but police say the suspect walked up to the home and shot those two teenagers, and then fled the scene. The oldest daughter of a san jose man whos behind bars for killing her mother is fighting to keep whats left of her family together police say mario chavez stabbed his wife to death at her new home on dakota drive saturday night. His two sons were reportedly in the next room. Chavez is in jail charged with murder. Now his 22yearold daughter is trying to gain custody of the two boys in an effort to Stay Together in the wake of this tragedy. Reporter just when people thought the worst was over, the potential for mud slides creeps in. We spoke to cal fire. They definitely had concerns about them. We learned that state parks has yet to ask a special team to evaluate mount diablo. Experts say intense fire kills roots that hold soil, and in the burn area rocks are soft, and just that type that create debris flows. We have to recede the soil, bulldozers do damage. It cuts the vegetation off, and what wasnt burned off, we have to make sure the soil is not just going to wash away with the first rains. Reporter mountain managers right now are fineing the bearest spots of dirt so it can be covered with bidegradable shooting to stave off erosion. Destroyed a lot of wildlife. One thing it leaves in its wake, in the spring, brilliant orangecolored fire poppies and golden ear drops will appear. They grow only after intense fires. Coming up at 6 45, how the community is helping fire station number 37. Crews battling a deadly fire hope to have it fully contained by sunday. Its the clover fire. This one has burned 80 buildings including 30 homes near happy valley. One death is blamed on that fire. Firefighters found the body of brian substantially henry. He refused to evacuate. The fire is 50 contained. Happening today, swat teams from all over california and beyond, they are gathered in the south bay this morning. It is the best of the west competition getting underway in san jose in just about 30 minutes from right now. Got 30 swat teams from western states training to improve their skills in how to respond to life or death. Withs like a hostage standoff. Swat teams confront dangerous suspects when they respond to marijuana operations and things like that. They want to be ready almost all of these, there have been evidence of firearms or firearms. So its very important we make sure the teams are ready, prepared for this. The Santa Clara CountySheriffs Office has hosted this best of the west event for the past 21 years. Prosecutors say an east bay mcdonalds manager masterminded an inside job, robbing his own restaurant. Happened late last month at the mcdonalds at santa rita road. Investigators say Felix Gonzales wore a mask, climbed through the drive through window and demanded money from the safe. Hes accused of ordering workers into the freezer before he left. Moments ago, there was a rescue. A car that was trapped out there, they did get the driver out. But they still have problems out there because of flooding in colorado. Happening today, officials are releasing a new Smartphone App to help catch sexual predators. Brian flores is in San Francisco where you just talked to an agent about how this works, brian. Want to introduce you to the app. It is the operation predator app. A home screen where you can submit tips online or through the app. Here is some of the suspect information. Theres about 10 of them right now. The key again is to help the public gather as much information as they can so that they can catch these suspects. Now, at this point the app is only available through itunes; but Officials Say theyre working closely to make it available on other platforms. They dont have an exact date, though, on when that is. It provides information to help identify, locate suspected child predators. The app will give Public Information to help identify the most wanted suspects. You can read about the latest investigations, arrests. Receive alerts. They say the app was developed because the response they received when information was released on suspects through social media. Were trying to stay current with technology. But i think because weve had such Great Success with these john doe alerts, through facebook and other social media and the responses, like i said, in many cases, within 24 hours, were flooded with tips. Reporter now, ice says unfortunately, they say child sexual abuse cases just continue to grow. Many sexual predators have some sense of security when it comes to up load images on the internet. They have several agents on the internet looking for these predators and that with the launch of this new app, they plan to catch more of these criminals. A man arrested on suspicion of stealing mail in morgan hill. Police arrested Eric Gonzales on tuesday. Hes accused of driving around Cheyenne Court in morgan hill in an orange convertible, stealing mail out of mailboxes. Police say they spotted the car in the neighborhood. They say it was filled with stolen mail from nearby homes. Police say that car also was stolen. News of a fire house theft has touched many people in one community now reaching out to help those firefighters. We know were safe now because of you guys. The Leadership Class from Foothill Middle School went to walnut creek station seven yesterday three days after the station was burglarized while crews were out fighting the fire on mount diablo started with 9 11. The governor says the minimum wage has not kept pace with rising costs. This bill would raise the minimum wage from 8 to 9 an hour on july 1st of next year, then to 10 in 2016. If looking for a job this morning, the california Highway Patrol will be taking applications starting in just a couple of minutes at 7 00 this morning. Its the second time in three years the chp is hiring. Applications will only be accepted online until this saturday. If you want to be considered, you have to be between 20 and 35 years old, a u. S. The Berkeley City Council debating whether to have Grocery Stores label all of their genetically modified produce. Now, this motion approved by the city Council Tells the city manager and several city commissioners to examine which stores the policy would apply to, how the requirement would be enforced and how produce would be labeled.
