[ cheers and applause ] got him looking and the giants have won it all he struck out miguel crab a to end the game in the 10th inning and Marco Scutaro with the big hit, a twoout sing that will brought in the go ahead run. The giants say it was a team effort. Enjoy every minute of it. It was hardearned and Incredible Group of guys that fought for each other. Certainly is an Incredible Group of guys. This is the second giants World Championship in three years. Theyre the First National league team to complete that since the Cincinnati Reds in the 1970s. Some rowdy giants fans trashed the street of San Francisco overnight. Ali rasmus is here to show us what vandals did. Reporter well, this is where part of the celebration became very messy, ugly, and smelly, out on 16th and mission, which is behind us. You can see the remnants of one of the burntout dumpster in the middle of the street. Now, this has been here for several hours. We checked with one of the dpw crews, and i believe the problem is the plastic from one of those bins melted into the asphalt so thats why they are having a bit of a difficult time trying to clear away. Theres a police car behind it so some of the cars driving down here dont directly run into it. Now, this all started after the giants victory when rowdy fans pour into the streets and within hours, people began setting dumpsters on fire. A fire back tollon chief said there was fires on almost every block from 16 and mission to 24th. One business was threatened, but firefighters extinguished the fire. Fans were participating in an Unlawful Assembly and told to leave the area. We saw officers make several arrests. Some Mission District resident said the party got quickly out of hand. It was fun at first. Its fun in the beginning. But, you know, the reason that i left the chaos was because a friend of mine was hit in the face with a beer can. And thats when it was just too wild. People should not tear up city they love so much. Why would the giants want to win again if this is what we do to show our appreciation . Reporter one mission resident was so frustrated with tippedover trash can she is came to clean out part of the mess in front of her apartment building. Departments of works crews cleaned out the trash and made a lot of progress because this street was much, much messier than it is right now. Theyre extinguishing fires in some dumpster that flared up and continued to smolder for hours. Now, we arrived at 1 00 this morning and drove around the Mission District. We didnt see any broken windows or any visible signs of structural damage to any of the businesses on mission or valencia between 16th and 24th so it appears most of the damage was limited to the dumpsters and trash cans and some news racks left out here. Live in San Francisco, allies are mass, ktvu channel 2 news. A viewer sent this video of a muni bus set on fire. This happened on third and Market Streets overnight. We have no word on anyone being injured. And there was a loud but peaceful celebration in San Franciscos inner sunset district. Now, ktvu viewer sent this cell phone video from ninth and irving. Some fans were banging on the tops of newspaper racks after just bowering out onto the streets. Now, this celebration didnt appear to get out of hand in this part of the city. Lets bring in chuck johnson, who is the head of studio 1204. Chuck, i understand theres three different designs for the world series shirts. Can you explain them . Well, we have three were printing. The gray one is the locker room tshirt, which is a shirt that players are putting on right after the game ended. Then this is what theyre calling the parade tshirt, and then just one tore desi were doing there so a total of three different designs. Reporter talk to us when you started printing the shirts. I understand its kind of a short process. Talk a little about that. Well, what we do we work with imagewear and they ask us to be what they call a hot market printer. That means they send the shirts in anticipation of winning the world series or National Championships and we basically have to get ready to print. We get the designs ready, sample them, send them out for approval with Major League Baseball, and then just keep our fingers crossed that well need to print them. We actually started about 24 hours ago and took a break of about six hours and came back after the game finished and have been going ever since. They havent turned on the metering lights but theres a little fog creeping through and will be foggy on the bridge as well. Moving along to interstate 880, not so foggy in oakland and looks pretty good in both direction in front of the coliseum, southbound looking okay to hayward. If youre driving to the 101, a nice drive to the airport in case youre trying to catch a flight we can even out of downtown San Francisco, 101 looks clear to the airport in san bruno. 6 08. Warm air squashing some of the fog so we have dense, coastal fog and inland fog so a fog advisory is out until 8 00 but some of that will probably last will little longer yeah, maybe a little misty on the coast. A little damp but likely tomorrow into wednesday we will have a ramp up of that. Our Cloud Forecast doesnt do much for highandmidlevel clouds but keeps low clouds on the coast so some of this fog will begin to increase i think wednesday night into thursday as the front get closer but slowing down and makes sense with the absolute just monster system back east slowing everything down but we will have a lot of low clouds back to the coast. 40s and 50s on the temps right now, overall cool for some but foggy for others. High pressure still in place today but will slowly break down as the system comes in so a dense fog advisory out. The cooling begins today as well. Look for this trend to continue into tuesday and wednesday. Well bottom out wednesday into thursday and start another warmup for the weekend. We have developing news. San jose firefighters are battle a stubborn fire at an empty warehouse that started just about two hours ago. Now, heres a picture from the scene. Firefighters said this fire is still not under control. No reports of any injuries but firefighters are worried about the stability of the building. They also say this is the third multiplealarm fire they have respond to in less than 24 hours. Nearly three dozen new recruits will start the Firefighting Academy in san jose. Its one of the biggest classes ever. The recruits will help bring the department closer to its Staffing Levels before recent cutbacks. The Academy Class is being paid for by an 8. 6 million grant from fema. Recruit will graduate in march. Time now just about 6 15. The time is 6 16. A moderate earthquake in Central California overnight but so far, theres no word of any damage or injuries. It was a 4. 2 magnitude quake that hit about 5 miles northwest of Pinnacles National monument and 13 miles northeast of the town of soledad. That area often feels quakes because pinnacles include a rock formation left by an extinct volcano and the San Andreas Fault runs right through it. The violence continues in syria, despite the ceasefire that is supposed to be in effects. Both the government and rebel forces agree to a ceasefire during a fourday muslim holiday that ends today. However, the truce collapsed almost immediately after it was supposed to take effect. Activists said more than 100 people were killed both saturday and sunday. And today, the Syrian Government said a car bomb in damascus in a suburb killed ten people. The trial continues today for a man accused of a string of violent Sexual Assault in San Francisco. 32yearold Frederick Dozier is accused of raping, beating, and robbing three women in the Mission District between june and december of last year. He was arrested in january after Police Received a tip. If convicted, he could get life in prison. Also this morning, jury deliberations continue in the trial of giselle else tee ban, the Union City Woman accused of killing michelle lay. She killed her former friend in may of last year because else tee ban thought lay was dating her exboyfriend. Pros cue she could be charg ed for manslaughter. People have been getting call in the middle of the night from what they believe are their grandchildren. Theyre claiming to be in a mexico jail and need money to get out. We have a lot of fog around, dense fog advisory out coast and inland until 8 00 but some of the fog on the coast is very, very shallow and highway 1 could reduce visibility not only for this morning but i think the next couple of days. Also some kind of misty, drizzly conditions are possible but its not confine to the coast. Again, we have inland fog santa rosa, con card, clayton really thick fog and also towards hayward so be careful. Patchy dense fog advisory until 8 00 but the fog doesnt read the advisory may go until 9 00 for some. We have a cooler pattern in place so dense fog in the morning, otherwise clear and cool. Mostly sunny, some fog near the coast, but cooler with 60s and 70s. 40s or 50s. For some is mild, and for others cool. Santa rosa, 46. System from the north taking the edge off highpressure system. Our rain for thursday morning will really put on the air brakes no pun intended because of how massive sandy is in the east. It will slow everything down. Welcome back to the ktvu 2 morning news. Beverly hills Police Arrested a suspected prowler at tom cruises house. The actor was not at home at the time. The Security Guard spotted the man climbing a fence to get onto the property. He then used stun gun to subdue the suspect and called police. The suspect was arrested and taken to a hospital to be checked for ill effect from the taser. A town hall meeting will be held tonight in richmond on the citys campaign to tax sugary drinks. Measure n would add a 1 cent per ounce tax on sodas and other sugary drinks. If it passes, richmond would become the countrys first city to impose such a tax on businesses. The town hall meeting starts at 7 00 at bethlehem hem Missionary Baptist Church in richmond. 6 25. A big celebration in San Francisco Civic Center Last night. Thousands gather to watch the giants win the world series. [ cheering ] the chain was flowing out champagne were flowing out there although fans were not supposed to have alcohol in the plaza. Mayor lee wanted to give families chance to cheer on the giants together. I knew it was going to happen. You know, it was already written, and the giants, they came through with flying colors. The giants are world champions, and they will be coming back to San Francisco this afternoon as the 2012 world champions. As you know, they beat the Detroit Tigers, swept the series 43 last night in extra innings in game 4. We are here at third and bryant, where a bunch of people sort of converged on the ballpark and on their way down, they stopped these are the offices for wikipedia and you can see all the shattered glass here. This is all the champagne bottles and broken windows that we have here. And we spoke with a Security Guard who works this area, and he said he was actually assaulted when an angry mob showed up. You can see all the glass thrown. The Fire Department picked those up. But basically, it was, like, 200 people and, like, i couldnt stop them. Reporter you wish you had maybe some Police Officers here to help . Wish i had an ak. Reporter Police Officers tell ktvu 2 that officers were outnumber and the department was not prepared to handle the crowds. Muni had to shut down the rail service because of glass on the tracks and cut off the power to rail wires because people were jumping on top of the rail cars, setting fires and shooting off fireworks. But this giants win did start off as a celebration. [ cheering ] oh, my gosh, its amazing i cant believe we did it in four games second championship in three years go giants, baby, whoo reporter now, all over the city, partying hit a feverish pitch, especially at civic center plaza, where more than 10,000 people gathered to watch the game on the jumbotron. People were dancing and singing in the streets and on top of cars, carrying broom sticks, signifying the sweep of the  tigers, but theres quite a bit of damage and learned at least two officers were hit by flying glass one in the leg and one in the arm. An officer also told us that there was a stabbing and a shooting just a few blocks from the ballpark. Most of the street sweepers seem to have gone but hearing a lot of brooms a lady across the street sweeping outside to get all the shards of glass cleared out of the way. As the cars drive by, you can hear the crunch of the glass so they still have the quite a bit of work to do. Maybe they will be able to do that once the sun comes up. Live in San Francisco, im tara moriarty, channel 2 news. In other parts of the city, several people were arrested overnight in the Mission District after some fans became too rowdy there. Police in riot gear tried for several hours to disburse the crowds. Trash cans were burned in the middle of the street just before 1 00 this morning. Police told fans that they were participating in an Unlawful Assembly and were toll to leave the area. Now, several bonfires set in streets throughout the city. Thats huge people were seen throwing trash can in the fire and some were jumping over the flames. Streets were closed major traffic problems were cause for people trying to get around the city and home. Things got out of hand near seventh and Market Street in San Francisco. One of our photographers took this video of people jumping on top of a muni bus. One person inside making a phone call a little worried there. Then in the same area, a viewer sent this video of a car flip over by celebrating fans. Hurricane sandy gets stronger and strong as it heads to the east coast. Thousands of flights have been grounded and stranding a passengers and disrupting air traffic around the world. He told me the latest information 150 flights cancelled to and from sfo today. Here it is. You can see the board is busy this morning. Washington, d. C. Cancelled, as you can see right here. This is all as a result of Hurricane Sandy shutting down airplanes on the eastern seaboard. The weather cancellations are piling up. The airlines have cancelled all their flight from sfo to six east coast cities today boston, philadelphia, new yorks jfk, newark, washington, d. C. , and baltimore. Any travelers trying to get to those cities may not make it until later this week. Most of those flight that are on United Airlines because this is one of their hubs, but american, jet blue, virgin, u. S. Airways, and delta impact by the storm as well. The airlines are booking people best they can but of course, a major inconvenience. A short time ago, i talked with a couple from italy who are here in San Francisco on vacation and now their cancelled flight to new york means extended vacation. We were supposed to leave today but our flight was delayed and now we leaving on friday. A longer stay. Three days more in San Francisco. Reporter you get an extended vacation. Ah, yes. Reporter the best advice from the airport spokesperson i talk with this morning is for people to come to their airlines, especially if theyre traveling to major cities on the eastern seaboard, to see if their flight is, in fact, cancelled. As we come out live, this is the security checkpoint here in terminal 2. Tsa spokesperson i should say a tsa representative said to me offcamera a short of off handed way boy, things are pretty light today. Things are not very busy, not as busy as they should be at sfo. In all likelihood, the reason being the cancellation of so many flights. It seems as though people are calling ahead and realizing their flights are cancel to the east coast and not coming here to sfo. Thats the best way to play things this morning. Sandy is already battering cities on toast coast with heavy rain, strong winds, and pounding surf. Tom cor bit warned sandy is not your typical storm. This storm is moving slowly and bringing high volumes of rain. Essentially, this is a hurricane wrap in a noreaster. Reporter the New York Stock Exchange suspended trading for monday. Broadway shows are dark, and the subway system has stopped running. Resident in lowlying areas have been ask to evacuate. New york mayor bloomberg urged residents to respond. I cant stress enough this is for your own safety and if you refuse to evacuate, youre not only putting yourself at risk but also the First Responders who will have to assist you in an emergency. Reporter president obama has this advice for those live in the storms path. You need to take this very seriously and fellow the instructions of your state and local officials because they are going to proud provide you with the best advice in terms of how to deal with this storm over the coming days.
