And i do have a couple of protesters here, are talking to us about why exactly they came out. Is a something you organize on social media . No, just got together and we talked about we always a fight for our rights and show that we have a voice we are all people of color, and we dont want people to make us feel bad as all the stuff that he said. And we just want our voice to be heard and what we feel is we are a family and i think hes taking that away. That is why we are here to protest. We might be young, it doesnt matter. Our voice matters. With a show of hands, how myhrvold how many of you are old enough to vote . None of you. Some of the folks i had talked to were 18. So do feel like this is your opportunity to show your yes, this is our opportunity to show you how we feel. Okay. We are a part of it in the matter. And we are out here as a group of girls to fight for her story. We have rights, we want to show you that. When the results came in and you heard that donald trump have been declared the president elect what was your reaction . I knew that i had to deal with it. I came outside and i dealt with it. And when we heard about the protest we did it. And we are sweaty and tired but i feel like i did a good job. Im fighting for my family. And like everybody else who is out here. But we saw stick together and i feel like hes separating us all and thats no ash and that is not okay. And we are all together as one. We should share this in our love. Thank you for speaking with us. A lot of these kids are from high school. And both private and public. And right now it seems that everything calm the crowd has gone away. The protest right now is over. And i feel like thats not blessed heard from you. All right. Thank you. And, School District just released a statement. And we recognize our students right to free speech. The walkout this morning was not authorized. And they will be notifying them regarding their unexcused absence. And they will be working with them to monitor the situation. And across the bay to the city of oakland. A peaceful protest and they have a plea. And, along with the Oakland Police, they just wrapped up a news conference. The city does not have an estimate of the total of cost. But they have at least 20 businesses up and down broadway, and there is graffiti on their buildings. And they say, but they have been working with those business owners. And what limited resources they say that they have. They are boarding up their windows and patching up the damage. But they made a point of making a distinction that they believe between the people taking part in the protest that started last night. This is a hard moment for oakland california. I understand why people are so angry. And while i stare at that anger i know that it is no way to protest the selection to trash the most progressive diverse inclusive city in america. 30 people were arrested last night in connection with vandalism. And all of those individuals arrested are from oakland. And and the cleanup after all this damage last night as well underway. From Power Washing graffiti too sleepy sweeping up broken glass, they stopped to stare and shake their heads. You dont have to destroy the town they say that you love. Whats the point . Do something constructive. It began with a peaceful rally around 5 pm as many as 7000 people began to protest the election. Three hours later some protesters splintered into smaller groups and thats when the vandalism started. And some of the people for rocks. And they through cocktails at downtown businesses. And a Security Guard told us that young men with bandannas is what looked like pipes to bash in the pipe the structure they left burn marks on the carpet inside. They wondered if it was about President Trump or just an excuse to be destructive. He has the business. Why are you doing that next we are just simple people. We are just trying to live our lives. Ipads and ive got ipads and iphones were stolen from this radioshack. Its like the excuse cut to go do something stupid. I didnt want him in office, or hillary. Im really disappointed about a lot of this. And this is not the way. And, while she said that she was sympathetic with the idea protesting president elect trump, she went on to say, the manner of protest that happened last night it did facilitate some of that. And i asked her is that mean that she would not like people to come out again tonight in protest trumps victory . And she stopped short of saying that she just wanted people to be aware that when there is a gathering that the broken windows and graffitis happen. And one had to be taken to the hospital and another had his hand cut. There is an antitrust protest scheduled tonight at 5 pm. Back to you. Okay. We will be better live at 5 pm. Its a much different scenario than we saw in oakland last night and they have been popping up. Students are organizing on social media. They have specific destinations that they are going to city hall. Others are assembling on school grounds. And they are gathering. But we are also seeing some random movements like we did in San Francisco. And students from lost Loomis High School walked through the high school over to city hall. And they say, that they are upset that donald trump was elected president many of them believe that he is a racist and a sexist and want to express their feelings. These are high school students. You can see that many of them are enjoying the opportunity to ditch school and in some cases jump in front of the cameras. And at this point there have been no reports of any violence. And, most importantly thankfully, no injuries as there are kids out in the streets. If you are traveling, please be careful if you see a crowd, it could be larger than you think. And we got very quiet and why did you stop chanting when she started talking . I think that there is a stereotype that latino people are disrespectful and we wanted to show respect and either way, show that we are not what people think that we are. A retired Oakland Police captain. Has been charged in the sex scandal. Henry we spoke with the 81 yearold who says he never admitted to paying for sex. Out parrot in was al paridan was a respected captain. But now he is being charged with a misdemeanor of soliciting a prostitute. They said he paid a woman for sex at a hotel. They say the incident happened in february when she was 18. The woman who now goes by her real name is the daughter of in Oakland Police dispatcher. She confirmed that it did occur in contra costa county, he contacted the individual and he admitted that it occurred. This is video from just a little while ago in San Francisco. The students there rallied in city hall walking down towards fisherman wharf. That crowd has dwindled but some appear to be heading to the Golden Gate Bridge. That is where we find alex savage. What you see, alex . Reporter yes, it has made its way throughout San Francisco today but it is kind of winding down. And just across from the palace of fine arts. And you can see, at this intersection just beyond us, we have a very small group of protesters that just made their way here to this location along the marina and they had a conversation with the members of the San FranciscoPolice Department and they were just turned around. That was the situation as it stands. It appears, to the larger group of several hundred protesters sort of disbanded in the aquatic park Fishermans Wharf area. This group has sort of splintered away. There were concerns that maybe some of these antitrump protesters are going to make their way towards the Golden Gate Bridge but it does not appear as that will market that that walmart. Materialize. But you can see, that you have a heavy lawenforcement present. They are making a stand. And, if the protesters came in this direction they were going to try to hold them. They didnt want to let them get over to the Golden Gate Bridge. That was the main focus. Officers were very concerned about the dangerous nature of having that many people on the Golden Gate Bridge. But again, you can see, based on the size of that group making its way over here, the protest appears to have disbanded. Thank you. He has used racist, misogynist, insulting words, the whole process has left all of us feeling just disgusted and disappointed. I thought that we were better. A lot of the hateful rhetoric shared by trump hit been very hard not many of them gush half of america does not feel that way about them. You try to calm the nerves and help the process move lowered. And, that no one could take that away from them. And, that [applause] the message today, youre not alone, you matter. They hadnt considered staging out a walkout but instead they reflected on how to empower themselves. A legal battle is underway. And, voters on tuesday approved prop 66. Proponents asked the Supreme Court to block it. It requires the states reward to those Death Penalty is within five years. The opponent says it will cause confusion and upheaval in the court. And, they are less reliable decisions in capitol cases. City leaders around the state are preparing for new regulations which would allow for the legal sale of marijuana. And the proposition was approved on tuesday and is immediately legalizing the use of Recreational Marijuana. It does not allow businesses to sell it only people who can legally purchase that drug in california and are with medical marijuana cards. It is still up for debate. And, the recreational ordinance, and it commits recreational stores, they will not be stories. Just last week the San Jose CityCouncil Approved a temporary ban on Recreational Marijuana sales. Why is not here arrested . Why is he walking the street . She tells the sergeant. That she is concerned that her attacker may leave the country to care for his dying parents. I said, he is a flight risk. Because he submitted the dna willingly the police for some reason thought that that meant that he was going to continue to cooperate. They didnt have a prosecutable case against the man at the time thats because it would be processed by a crime lab for several months. Because of the backlog there was a degree of uncertainty. And shes not alone the department of justice report tens of thousands of rape kits sitting on shelves across the country. They no longer have backlogs but they say that depends on your definition. That doesnt mean that there are not pictures in limbo. And its a sign for analysis in the crime lab still has 124 days to process the evidence. I dont think that this is enough 120 days really . That is in line with recommended state deadlines one woman sued them on allegations of processing the rape kit for two years. They report data annually. When you have evidence its your responsibility to utilize that. By not doing that, its a slap in the face to the victim. We have to make it work is a streamlined situation. The District Attorney successfully advocated for millions of dollars of federal funding to help Police Agencies pay for the cost. Her office is nearly done a eliminating the 2000 backlog they discovered in 2011. The statute of limitations has expired leaning the victims may never see the justice they were hoping for. She says its important to enter results into a national dna database. We are linking crimes together so thats one reason why its important to not leave any kits untested while many send their kids outofstate. This robot the Oakland PoliceDepartment Crime lab has changed the way that the kits are tested. You get a profile we will open up one at a time take it out and take a half of the swab and put it into this plate. It processes samples six times faster than a human. With been asked by many agencies for protocol so that we can implement it within our lover crash within within our lab. She says, but it was too late instead, happened a week later i received an email and it says he fled the country and asked if i might know where he has. Its unbelievable. It made me so angry. And so far, this is bernie pretty people protests you can see out here in the streets it has done a big seven and they are doing a bunch of cheers and step on the blow horn. And, you actually marched down here from the school which is all the way down here. How many miles is that correct we been walking for the past three hours. So whats been going on . Well, as a protest we just came here. In organization of women that and we had a discussion over here and we are just ready to protest and make sure that our voices are heard. I notice that you have on a nasty woman tshirt. Whats one of the motivators to be here . I think as a community we emphasized love or hate. Just bringing people together instead of seeing not united. So, im assuming youre upset that he was elected president. I think for me, as a woman, hearing what he said in knowing that he is the face of our country that angers me especially because i wasnt able to vote i need to be here and make sure that our voices are heard. I feel the same way. The things that he said was very disrespectful. And it makes me feel ashamed to be part of the country like he said. The leader of the country.
