As that investigation progresses, we are getting a clear picture of that man behind the attack. Ktvu fox 2 news Christien Kafton is live with the latest on who he was and the investigation currently underway into his background. Reporter french officials are releaguing new Details Behind the man in the attacks. He is 31yearold mohamed lagouaiej bouhlel. He is a Tunisian National and prosecutors say he has a lengthy criminal history including threating, violence, and theft. As recently as march, he was prosecuted for violence with a weapon and received a suspended sentence. On the other hand, he is absolutely nowhere to be found in the intelligence files in the files of the intelligence surveys. We have learned that he was married and had children. His exwife was taken into custody. Investigators are not saying why or how long they plan on holding her. Neighbors say he was a creepy loner and not overtly religious. The truck he was driving was rented on july 11 raising the possibility this was a planned attack. At this point, investigators are looking to see if there are any indications if he was affiliated with any terror organization. So far, no organizations have stepped forward, but some social media accounts associated with isis have been applauding this attack so clearly, this is an area investigators will be looking at. Thank you. The attack happened at 10 30 p. M. Local time as people were gathering to celebrate their independence day. A big white truck plowed down a road that was supposed to be blocked off as a party zone. As the truck drove through the crowd, some people fell to the ground in pain and agony. Others just took off. I just booked it. I grabbed my fiance and we started running. I saw one guy running, we saw People Holding babies screaming and shouting. Footage from the attack shows bodies piled up in the roads as frantic people run through streets trying to avoid the zigzagging vehicle. The 30 minute ram age ended when the suspect died during a shootout with police. [ sound of gunfire ] a motorcyclist tried to stop the driver. The motorcycle was partly crushed under the trucks tires and the motorcyclist, possibly a Police Officer, clung on and two other officers on footed opened fire on that truck. A german tourist says he could hear angry shouts rolling down the blocked road. That is when he picked up his camera. And 51yearold Shawn Copeland and his son brady are americans that were killed. They were in nice in their european vacation. They loved baseball. Three uc Berkeley Students are among those injured in the attack. 20yearold Nicholas Leslie is unaccounted for. This is his facebook page. He is from san diego. He was reportedly last seen rolling through the streets of old nice during the rampage. The other students who were injured, two have broken legs, a third has a broken foot. Secretary of state john kerry went to the French Embassy in moscow to lay flowers and leave a message in a book of con dole lances. During a meeting, he and the foreign minister paused and stood for a moment of silence. Kerry is calling on the International Community to do more to fight terrorism. We certainly join with you in expressing our absolute abhorrence for the incredible carnage that took place in nice yesterday. The problem is you and i and other Foreign Ministers and leaders of countries are doing this almost on a weekly basis. Nowhere is there a greater hot bed or incubator than in syria. He is calm, measured, a staunch conservative. He is an evangelical. Only had one wife. He has three children. He has been in congress for some dozen years and he is currently the governor of indiana. In fact, this is why this announcement came early this morning. Because at 9 00, governor pence had to decide whether he was going to in fact seek reelection and take a look at this video that just came into the news room. His attorneys actually filed the piper right here saying he will no longer seek reelection in indiana. This is a point of loss here. He had to make this announcement and this filing by noon his time today because you cannot in indiana be both a president ial candidate and a gubernatorial candidate at the same time. So reaction accrues the country has been mixed. The democrats frankly are gleeful about this because they believe this is exactly what people do not like about the Republican Party that he represents everything that democrats do not like. In fact, nancy pelosi spoke a few minutes ago. Take a listen. The Vice President ial candidate that the whole country rejected his attitudes toward gays in indiana that he had to modify his position there. When she in congress, he was supportive of privatizing social security. I cant wait until we have a debate. Well governor pence is known across the country because of that antigay legislation that enraged many people across the country and prompted companies to try to boycott indiana. At least temporarily. This specifically is more than a minute long talking about his antigay legislation that he signed into law in indiana. Now, a few months after that, he did back off this because there was such a large outcry. But Hillary Clinton is saying this is who Donald Trumps running mate is. Add it to the list of things democrats do not like. It did not take long. I suspect it was preproduced. You are going out to the convention. No longer. It is gone. Most of the protesters were in support of the mayor. Tara moriarty joins us live to tell us how the supporters managed to get in the mix at the rally. Reporter it was kind of unexpected really. These protesters who were actually in support of mayor ed lee. They showed up first. They gathered here across the street from city hall. All these banners and signs. There were more than 200 of them. They waited, actually patiently, for the protesters who were for the recall to finish they were over here on the front steps of city hall. That is when everybody marched over. Recall ed lee recall ed lee reporter these supporters, those who want mayor ed lee out of office, they are angry he stood by the former police chief so long in the wake of a racist text messaging scandal and a string of deadly shootings. He has catered to Big Tech Companies and allowed the homeless issues to spiral out of control, they say. He has forced middle and lower income communities out of San Francisco to benefit developers, big business, twitter. Conway. And so, you have to make over 100,000 a year just to get by in this city. I think this recall effort is a misuse of the entire recall process. It is misguided. It is a waste of taxpayer money. And the mayor was elected fairly six months ago. He is addressing the very vex issues in San Francisco on homelessness. He is doing the best he can. Reporter the recall group says it needs to gather 40,000 signatures but it is aiming for 120,000. Today, a Funeral Service was held in louisiana for alton sterling. He was the man shot and killed by a Baton Rouge Police officer outside a convenient store. Bystanders recorded the shooting and posted the video on social media. In the wake of the controversy over police shootings, ken wayne took a ride with the San FranciscoPolice Department. He wanted to see how officers and the people they serve react with one another. Ken experienced what we have long heard that police work involves the unexpected. Reporter our ride along is to get a sense of their jobs and how they interact with the public here. Make a couple of traffic stops. Two for broken brake likes. One is an asian driver off san bruno avenue. It is a safety issue. You want the fix as soon as possible. Reporter is given a warning and let go. Another stop, a black driver on bay shore boulevard for another taillight. He doesnt want to talk to us on camera, but has a problem with officers doing their jobs. Police say these kinds of stops can lead to more serious arrests. We always run the individual that we pull over, make sure they dont have warrants. Make sure things come back clear. Reporter he is let go with a warning. We drive up potrero hill when the unexpected happens. A man is down in the street behind a car. He is unresponsive. You okay sir . We got help coming for you. Reporter waiting for an ambulance, they roll him to the side to check for injuries. Was he shot . There is no sign of trauma. No blood. They check his vitals. As other officers arrive, begin cpr. He has a pulse. Reporter there are no witnesses. What happened to this man is a mystery. We saw him pinned up in between a car down here. Got him an ambulance as soon as possible. You dont know what happened . We have no idea. Reporter the unidentified man was taken to San FranciscoGeneral Hospital where he is said to be in Critical Condition from a massive heart attack. A woman in the bottom right corner of the screen being consoled as she looks at some of the candles and the flowers there. Have noticed a number of children as welcoming to pause and reflect on the tragic events that took place last night. At least ten children killed in that attack. A number of other children also wounded and are now in the hospital. We do know 84 people are now confirmed dead. 202 people are injured. Of those injured, 25 are on life support and 52 are in Critical Condition. The sights and sounds you are seeing are from the gun battle last night between the gunman and police. You see people fleeing the cay cottic and deadly scene. Of the 84 people killed, two are american citizens. A father and son from texas. Three of the injures are uc Berkeley Students. At this point, there is one more cal student who is still unaccounted for. We spoke with a man here in the bay area who has friends and family in nice. They told him how they had to run for their lives during the rampage which only ended after police shot and killed the gunman who has now been identified as mohamed lagouaiej bouhlel. A tunisian man living in france. Back here in the states, the fbi is now asking for the publics help to find an armed robber who has earned the name the dreaded bandit. Henry lee explains why. Reporter take a good look at the photos. This, police say, is the dreaded bandit. Dreaded refers to the wig and the fake long hair he has on. He has also terrorized tellers at gunpoint wearing makeup. The fbi believes he is responsible for at least four takeover style Bank Robberies in the area since april. His alleged crime vegan at the First Republic bank in San Francisco on april 22. He pulled out a revolver and forced five employees to go to the back of the bank. He stole money and fled. Then on may 12, he showed up at the provident credit unit on south camino real in san mateo. He was armed. He wore tan makeup and was in disguise. A small black revolver and a fake black wig and hat. Reporter the same man set his sights on this comerica bank. He robbed the first june 23 when he forced the manager to let him into the banks vault. He attacked this past monday wearing white makeup. He jumped over the counter, took money from teller drawers and the vault before escaping through the side door which is locked. Customers had to be let in by security guards. I cant believe it. It seems like kind of a smaller bank. Seems like maybe there is less activity going on. Im just concerned that these criminals just. Its is so easy for them to commit these crimes and get away with it. Twice in two weeks. Reporter Authorities Say no tip is too small and you might hold the key to letting the dreaded bandit behind bars. In San Francisco, henry lee, ktvu fox 2 news. In oakland, police are investigating an accident that injured four people. It happened just before 10 30 last night at seventh and peralta. At this point, there is no word as to what led up to the shooting or the extent of the victims injuries. San Francisco Police arrested two men. They say committed a series of robberies and an attempted cab jacking. They were taken into custody in connection with those robberies. A teenager was playing pokimon go. The men were booked on a number of charges including robbery, assault with a Deadly Weapon and gun related allegations. More cases are being linked to the socalled seral street shooter in phoenix. He is accused of killing seven people and injuring two others. Just yesterday, Phoenix Police released a new sketch of the gunman. They say he uses a semiautomatic handgun. They have not found any link between the victims and the shooter. They are in maryvale and many of the victims were shot substantial doubting outside their homes. The sister of one of the victims is pleading for people with information to call the police. He had just stepped foot outside his car. His car door was still open. That is how quick it was. All these people were so good. Good people with good families and now they are gone. In the blink of an eye. Because of a monster. Please. Please just come forward. Go to silent witness. It is completely anonymous. If you know something. The shooting started on march 17 and now a 30,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the gunman. A report finds that a teenage sex worker at the center of the Oakland Police scandal had Online Connections to a number of San FranciscoPolice Officers. At least 24 current and former sfpd officers had links to celestes facebook page. A large group of officers was only friends with her, but never interacted with her online. Others repeatedly liked photos of her but it is unclear if any of them had connections to her beyond facebook. The department is investigating the matter and the sfpd has no rules on officers social media accounts. That is in the works. A former emeryville Police Officer convicted of raping and molesting a son and stepdaughter more than 25 years ago could be released from prison. Ron chauce was sentenced to 75 years behind bars. But recent state regulations make him eligible for a parole hearing later in month. He qualifies through the Elderly Parole Program because he is older than 60 and served more than 25 years in prison. New sledge legislation is making its way through the capitol to combat so called revenge porn. It would make it a federal crime to intentionally share sexually explicit photos or video of a former partner without permission with the intent to harm, harass, or intimidate. The legislation would allow fines and up to five years in prison. Some of the people chased and if punched outside a donald trump rally filed a lawsuit against the city. 14 people in all are alleging the city of san jose, sam liccardo failed to protect them against antitrump demonstrators and that failure led to assault and intimidation by a deadly mob. This man was hit on the head and got a concussion. A woman had eggs thrown at her and she was spit upon. Another victim with a broken nose told ktvu fox 2 news the mayors disapproving view of trump may have played a role. People went up to the police and asked them to do something. Asked them to help out. And they didnt. They said that we are not allowed to. So, whether it is a stand down order or im not sure what that part of it was. They just allowed it to happen. The accusations that i somehow directed the Police Department to stand down at the rally is utterly false. In fact, i have no authority to issue such an order. Since the protest, police have arrested and identified 20 suspects and additional arrest warrants have been issued. In san jose, 400 residents could be out there living on the street because of plans to demolish an apartment complex. Three orphan bear cubs have a new home after their mother was kit and killed by a car on july 4. Their home is at lake tahoe wildlife care. The hope is they can beresubstance abused to the next year. They are still very small, but otherwise healthy. They havent been given names and human contact is kept at a minimum. Hey, we might have a bear cub for you. She says yeah, we got the one and we got a second one. Guess what . There was a third one. We try to minimize eye contact. We dont talk to them. We try not to talk super loud around them. The cubs will stay in tahoe through the year and will even go into hibernation. During this time, they are expected to grow quickly to more than 100 pounds.
