Now at this point, theres no time line on when a permanent replacement will be chosen. Chief went released a statement reading in part, i am so proud to have served oakland over the course of my two decade long career. When i took this job as interim chief, i vowed to help move the department forward and make oakland safer by foraging a strong relationship with members of this diverse community. Im proud to have done that. Councilman noel said he was talking with the chief about the over time budget and says he wants to talk to the former chief about the circumstances surrounding his departure. I understand the pressure he was under. And the interference that goes on from the institution, city hall politically. I personally liked him. He was very straight forward. And certainly was more responsive than previously. At this time, deputy chief farrow will be serving as deputy interim chief. So in the city of oakland, Violent Crime has fallen recently under wents command from a Job Performance standpoint it doesnt seem to make sense. That was one of the questions that we had for the mayor this morning in talking with her. She acknowledged the fact that crime is down 39 in terms of shootings and homicides. She says shes appreciative of that but she went on to say that the decision to step down was wents decision. We have oakland and San Francisco both without police chiefs. What happens next for oakland . Is this a competition for both cities now . Thats the big question. This is a National Search for both chiefs of police. San francisco needs one. Oakland now needs one to replace chief went. Is there going to be competition between the cities . Theyre two very different cities. They might not be in direct competition. But everybody is looking at a relatively small pool of Police Administrators who can tackle the jobs in San Francisco and oakland. Ben farrow a possible candidate. That was one of the things that the mayor also eluded to. At this point, its unclear if the position is officially open for applications to take place. Certainly nobodys had a chance to put their application in so to speak. But i would expect to see farrows name in the mix. Thank you so much christian. Now to new developments in the stanford Sexual Assault case involving former swimmer brock turner. Newly released Court Documents show that the evidence that prosecutors claimed contradicted turners statement that the Sexual Assault happened partially as a result of his inexperience with Party Culture. They show pictures of he and his friends smoking marijuana. They included Text Messages of turner talking about drug use and drinking when he was still in high school back in ohio. Prosecutors submitted those materials when they asked for a stiffer sentence. Saying the findings showed he lies about drug and alcohol use. In the mean time the effort to recall the judge in this case is gaining quite a bit of momentum. Thousands have signed a petition judging the remove of the judge because of what many see as too lenient a sentence for turner. The Group Organizing the petition is delivering nearly a million signatures to the California Commission on Judicial Performance demanding he be removed from the bench. In fairfield people are being warned about a high risk sex offender that just moved to their city. George was convicted in 1990 of molesting children under the age of 18. In 1993 he was convicted of lewd acts with a child under 14. Hes required to register as a sex offender every year or whenever he changes his residence. Breaking news coming to us from San Francisco. Thats why police are investigating a stabbing. Were hearing that a female construction worker is dead. Ktvu fox 2s anne reuben is live on the scene and she joins us with more. Reporter authorities do have two people in custody, a man and a woman. Thanks to the quick action of construction workers who chased them down. Now, this all started about 9 30 this morning. San Francisco Police say a female construction worker was standing near her construction site on shiply at fifth street when she was approached by two people. There was some sort of verbal altercation that then turned physical. The construction worker was stabbed multiple times with some sort of edged weapon. Police say the suspect took off running and were chased by some of the womans coworkers on to folsom street where police were able to catch them. The woman was taken to the hospital but did not survive. This is fifth and folsom is close to a lot of central markets. Its a very busy area. Midday. Its very unusual that it happens. But you can never predict when an attack will happen. And you can never predict how quickly these events will take place. This person had a weapon, attacked a woman. She succumb to her injuries unfortunately, and everything happened within minutes. Police say they dont know whether the woman knew her attackers or whether they were complete strangers but two people, a man and a woman are in custody. But really, muhammad ali, they called him the peoples champ and his last request was to have the people here. And they did in fact show up today. He got that request. The sports world by the way this afternoon lost another legend. Word spread that hockey hall of famer gordy how has died. Known as mr. Hockey, he led the Detroit Red Wings to four stanley cup championships. He played 26 seasons in the nhl. Including one final season when he was 51 years old. Hes second all time with 801 career goals. He suffered a serious stroke back in 2014. He under went a stem cell treatment. And his family says his health improved after words. His cause of death hasnt been released. Gordy how, 88 years old. Still ahead, hundreds of families forced to evacuate. Well have the latest on the raging wildfire in arizona. There are no reports of damage or injuries, theres also been a series of after shocks as big as a magnitude 3. 5. A wildfire burning at a National Forest is growing. These are pictures from the u. S. Forest service of the so called pony fire. Its now burned nearly 890 acres it was caused by a Lightning Strike earlier this week. The Forest Service says most of the land on fire is primarily in an old burn area with mostly dead and drowned trees with under brush. Ewes are having difficulty officials are having difficulty getting to the flames. Mean time, in arizona, hundreds of people are fleeing the tenderfoot fire burning near the city of yarnell. As anita reports, for a lot of the evacuees its reminiscent of the blaze that destroyed homes and claimed the lives of firefighters. Its my house. Ive all ready lost one. Hes adamant about protecting his newly rebuilt home no matter the danger. They can have that one. Im not leaving this one. I was doing this. I looked out the window and i saw the smoke across the highway. They lost their home and their belongings to the yarnell hill fire. The tenderfoot fire sparking emotions, driving a fear they havent felt since. They live on the east side of town. Evacuations werent mandatory, but after last time, they were ready. We rebuilt with a metal roof. We rebuilt with products that would not catch on fire. Not everyone had a choice. 300 people were evacuated. Many of them spent the night in their cars in this Convenience Store parking lot. By 5 00 it was packed down here. We had cars backtoback. Joe smith just moved to yarnell. His grandparents lost everything three years ago. Im worried about my stuff. I want to go home. If you have faith in the Fire Department that theyre going to take care of it. It doesnt have a lot of moisture with it. But it keeps this continuation of breezy brust blustery conditions. The cool air aloft is in place. Weve chewed everything up there. Still some patchy fog. We cant get rid of the breeze, 18, 17, gusts to 26, west southwest it did turn a little southeast for a while this morning. San jose, northwest, look at sfo, so its going to be a windy day for some. Temperatures though are actually running a little bit warmer than they were 24 hours ago. We lost that low cloud deck. So the fog that was there yesterday really held the temps in check. We get the sunshine now. So temperatures are up. If it feels warmer, it is. We get a south wind in advance of that system. Look at Southern California, low clouds, high and mid level clouds. If youre heading down there. Theyre dealing with more clouds than we are. Central california is dealing with cloud bans from the west southwest. Theyll get pushed south as that system sweeps in. Theres not a lot to it. Its a ten use rope. But that will give us partly and mostly cloudy conditions. On the backside of that, well get mostly sunny again. This is the system up north. Theres not a lot of moisture with that again. But it keeps the breeze going, the wind machine ranked up and some pretty Cool Temperatures in the mix. Patchy fog, high clouds, partly sunny, filtered sun, occasionally some sun. But 60s and mainly 70s. A combination of sun and clouds. Cool to mild to warm. Mostly cloudy to the north end turning partly sunny. The highs staying below average. This looks to be the theme except for the weekend. Next week is looking very cool again. 60s, 70s and low 80s. Were following a developing story this noontime out of texas, theres a heavy Police Presence after a Dallas Airport after a Police Shooting at a Passenger Terminal building. You hear the gunfire right there. At least nine shots were fired at around 10 30 at the baggage claim area. This is at dallas love field. A man at the airport captured the shots being fired on his cell phone. Police say this all started with a domestic dispute outside of the building. A man allegedly attacked a woman with rocks. He then fought with the Police Officer and threatened that officer with a large rock. And thats when the officer shot the man. The officer could be heard yelling on the video at the man to stay down as police screamed and ran for cover in the terminal as you can imagine the man was eventually taken to the hospital. The man who was shot. We dont know his condition at this time. Coming up, several of the bay areas biggest festivals get under way this weekend. We are getting ourselves in motion because a recall is a very large under taking. The recall effort of judge aaron is gaining steam. He sentenced stanford swimmer brock turner to six months in jail for raping an unconscious woman. Not the six years requested by prosecutors. In this case, the judge using his discretion selected a probation sentence and he has that right. The defense portrayed turner as an innocent boy overwhelmed by the Party Culture at stanford. Coming from a small town in ohio, i never really experienced celebrating or partying that involved alcohol. Turner told the judge. But prosecutors impeached him using his own cell phone. Video showed him smoking a bong and drinking liquor. On Christmas Eve he was down for a good acid trip. That july he bragged about doing acid and wanted to do lsd and ecstasy. Justice demands the judge be removed. From capitol hill to california, 900,000 signed a petition to recall the judge. Michelle dobber spearheads the effort. This judge is subject to the will of the people. Dobber needs 20 of county registered voters to hold a recall election. A recall process takes many months to do. He could be reassigned to a lesser court. The state commission could but likely wont sanction him. They would need to have information that this judge does this all the time. That he is categorically unequipped to serve as a bench officer in the state of california. Jurors are now reportedly refusing to serve in his court. Meanwhile stanford students plan to protest at sundays commencement. In los angeles, fox news. This afternoon a san jose wrestling coach is behind bars facing child molestation charges. Police arrested 34yearold mark on wednesday. Hes now facing two counts of committing a lewd act against a teenage girl. Hes a wrestling coach at san joses independence high school. Investigators say the alleged victim here is a 14yearold girl. And also a member of a School Wrestling club. So far theres no word on exactly what led to the coachs arrest. In oakland, the abduction of three teenage girls is now being investigated as a case of human trafficking. All three girls were rescued from a home on the corner of 65th this week. The victims are 14, 15, and 16 years old. Officers also arrested two suspects, a 21yearold man and a 22yearold woman. Police say its not unusual for them to arrest women who allegedly force girls into prostitution. Hayward police are investigating a shooting that took place dangerously close to a Little League game. This happened late yesterday afternoon in the parking lot of the sorendale rec center. One person was injured by the gunfire which involved people in two separate cars. The shooting of course stun ised many people who were watching a Little League game nearby. I heard the bang, bang, bang, bang back and forth. Came out here and saw two cars speeding away. Two groups of people got involved in a shooting. They both left the scene. We stopped the vehicle a short time away. Inside that vehicle was a person that was suffering from a gunshot wound. At this point, theres no word on the condition of that shooting victim. Police say the shooters sped away from the scene in a white fourdoor sedan. East bay authorities just wrapped up an operation aimed at getting drugs off the streets. Ktvu followed members of the task force as they suited up yesterday and hit at least three homes. Authorities arrested several people linked to a notorious mex condition drug cartel operating in the bay area. Officers tracked down one of the suspects trying to elude capture. They arrested him and his wife on suspicion of a marijuana grow operation the illegal pot trade can result in many innocent victims. Its an elicit drug trade. Its going to bring people that will probably at some point do a Home Invasion robbery, these people now armed with semiautomatic assault weapons are going to try to defend their elicit grow. Bullets go through walls. Whats going to happen . Whos at risk here . Every person on this block is at risk. All these hard working people with children. Over the past three days a Narcotics Task force targeted a dozen homes, made at least 17 arrests and confiscated thousands of dollars worth of marijuana. This next story weve been talking a lot about has a lot of people shaking their head. Police are asking for the publics help to find a puppy stolen at gunpoint from a 14 yearold boy. Investigators put out pictures of the German Shepherd named maya in the hopes that you recognize or spot her. Police say the robbery happened around 8 30 as the teen boy was walking maya on dayton avenue. Thats when officers say the boy was approached by two men in their 20s. One of them pulled out a gun and demanded the boy give them the dog. Thieves took off in a light colored car. Now that Hillary Clinton has enough delegates to clench the president ial nomination, she needs a running mate. Its a meeting taking place thats raising eyebrows. Hillary vaughn has the latest from the campaign trail. Hillary clinton is meeting with massachusetts senator Elizabeth Warren at her dc home today. Lawyers for the notorious mexican drug lord known as el chapo have filed a legal challenge trying to block his approved extradition to the u. S. Lawyers say his extradition is based on quote the opinion of two district judges. They also added that hell most likely remain in mexico for a long time. According to mexican authorities, the infamous drug lord would face charges of drug trafficking, money laundering, and murder in california and texas federal courts. But once hes in the states, its not clear where hell be detain. He was captured back in january. Meanwhile, a group of students from cal state east bay are busy packing up for a mission to panama. This group is scheduled to leave next week. As amber lee reports, theyll be delivering medical supplies to communities that may not otherwise have them. Osmond and angela are among a group of 34 students. Traveling to panama to bring medical supplies to people in rural villages. Its the students second trip to a third world country as part of a National Nonprofit called global brigade. They went on a similar mission to nicaragua last year. In nicaragua when i saw homes made out of mud and children playing in dirt, that reminded me of my childhood. Memory of the hardships in his own homeland, afghanistan, are inspiring osmond to help others. A child in my community died from fever. Which is something easily curable here. With something as simple as tylenol but we didnt have access to medication. His father died when he was only a teenager for the same reason, lack of access to health care. When hes in a third world country, he says he feels like hes at home. Now, the 24yearold premed student, and angela, whos also an aspiring doctor, are planning to put sweat equity into their mission to panama. From their experience in nicaragua, they learned how to build septic tanks, bathrooms, and sinks for families, and plan to do the same on this trip. They will also be giving away items of basic necessity. They dont have tooth paste. This year were going to bring a whole bunch of hygiene kits. Simple stuff thats going to hopefully make an impact in their daily life. Day number two. Angela tells me she took this cell phone video as the students walked toward the clinic in nicaragua where villagers waited for them. She says the students help serve 1,000 patients in a few days. Id sigh what i learned the most was the inequity in health care comparing their country to our country. And just the realization that they really dont have access to the things that we do. The goal is to make a difference by improving the lives of impoverished families. I want to be able to connect with them on a rudimentary level. And make an impact on them. The joy that i see in their faces, its the most rewarding experience. That was amber lee reporting. The students will leave for panama early monday morning. The sharks staved off elimination in pittsburgh last night. They managed to beat the penguins 42 in game five. A wild 1st period, a lot of scoring.
