Killing a Novato High School student appeared in court today. Alex savidge joins us live this afternoon with more on that part of the story. Reporter good afternoon. Four young men are charged in connection with killing. However, one of them remains on the run this afternoon. The three who are in custody, they face the judge for the first time a short time ago here in a marin county courtroom. All of these defendants are charged in a vicious attack on two Novato High School student shots and cut with a machete. One of those victims died. The other survived. 17yearold juan carlos and 16 yearold Edwin Guevara are facing firstdegree murder and a testimony the murder while 20 yearold elmer rivera is charged with an accessory after the crime. Now, because of the nature of this killing, the District Attorney has charged the under age defendants as adults. The law allows us to charge in cases of a brutal murder minors over the age of 16 with certain crimes, murder in the first degree, which special circumstances being one of those crimes. If the District Attorney makes a determination, thats their decision as far as fairness is concerned, thats something probably that the courts and the judge will consider, but personally, you just have to look at the seriousness. Charges when they make their determination. Reporter as far as the motive here, investigators are looking at the possibility this attack was in retaliation for a Sexual Assault that happened just a week earlier. 17yearold novato stool student edwin was found dead along that hiking trail last wednesday. Diaz also a student was badly hurt in the attack but was able to call for help. At the same time, the Sheriffs Office is looking for another teenager, a 4th person charged with taking part in this attack. That is 19yearold Javier Guevara who remains on the run. He is the one whos accused of using the machete during this crime. Again, three defendants already in custody appeared for the first time in Court Earlier today. They did not enter pleas, and theyre expected to return a week from today. Live there at the marin civic center. Thank you. Three people accused of killing a milbrae father are due in court this afternoon. Tiffany lee, her boyfriend, and their friends are a us cooed of killing keith green. Lee and green have two children together. He was last seen at the milbrae pancake house back on april 28th where he met lee. His body was found on may 11th right off highway 101, all three of the suspects are expected to erg a plea today. They are being held without bail. A person was hit and killed by a train this morning. It happened at about 6 15. The incident caused delays for about two hours between redwood city and belmont. At one point, a bus was provided. It appears to have been a suicide. Cal osha is at the site where the rotle rock festival was held this weekend. The Sheriffs Office identified the man who died as a 36year old of sonoma. Investigators say he was part of a crew removing structures from the stage area when a steel beam fell on him yesterday. Coworkers were able to remove the beam and they did perform cpr, but they were unable to save him. He was working for richmond based Party Equipment rental company top productions. Bottle rox organizers issued this statement, quote, at this time an investigation is still on going. We are devastated by this hughes and our parties news and our hearts go out to the hearts of the deceased. A section interstate 5 is expected to remain closed until friday, even longer, after a sinkhole opened up south of highway 33 near tracy. Theres a detour on the northbound section between highway 33 and 132. Now, crews would be okaying around the working around the clock when that sinkhole was first discovered. It started out as a hole in the asphalt that was one foot wide and one foot deep. Now, its so deep theres Construction Equipment hidden under the freeway. Crews are trying to get to an irrigation pipe that may have caused the sinkhole. Caltrans has set up a detour. People who live in the area say the freeway closure is an inconvenience, but of course its necessary. Its better than driving in a hole. Im glad everyone is okay. He was wearing a shirt with the letters dbd on the front. As for the car, they drove off in an early 2000 silver acura tl that did not have a front license plate. Police in hayward and union city are searching for a hit andrun driver who injured a motorcycle officer. Now, a source tells us the driver put the car in reverse and slammed into the officers motorcycle. Sky fox was above near the industrial parkway at a motor home park. A dozen police cars were on scene searching for the driver. Union city pd expected to release more information today. Search teams looking for the egypt air are closing in. It turns out it was a murder suicide that happened on the campus of ucla. We know two men were shot and killed. Earlier we reported that one was the gunman. That appeared to be the case. No names yet, but we do know that it appears to be a murder suicide that happened just this morning on the campus of ucla. Clearly the story is in its early stages. There are reports the parents of a boy who fell into a gorilla enclosure are getting death threats. Thats because zoo officials chose to kill the animal rather than risk the childs safety. The Los Angeles Police chief confirmed about ten minutes ago that the shooting was a murder suicide and that the campus is safe. Right now, there is still, though, a big Police Presence in westwood. More than a dozen Police Vehicles swarmed the campus after 10 00 a. M. The shooting happened in a small office in an engineering building. The chief says a gun was found along with what might be a suicide note. Ucla pd reported to three shots fired. The police chief says the school immediately sent out a campus alert after the shooting and put that campus on lockdown.
