Reporter it is relatively rare but not unheard of. In this case the defendant was injured in the deadly crash and is still hospitalized, so the judge and court came to him. From his bed at high land hospital in oakland, wilson was formally notified of the charges against him. Two counts of murder, hitand run, and dui. A judge, prosecutor, and bailiff came from Contra Costa County for the unusual hearing. Ktvu spoke to the prosecutor after the brief hearing where cameras were not allowed. It went fine. Pretty routine. It was a hospital arraignment. Arraignment was put over for two weeks. No plea was entered. Fire crews are battling a brushfire that has burned about 250 acres southwest of winters in yolo county. This is predominantly farmland and open fields east of lake berryessa. Some mandatory evacuations have been ordered near highway 21. Also, the fire has shut down a portion of highway 128 at Pleasant Valley road. Right now the fire we are told is only 10 contained, and so far no word when highway 128 may reopen. In the east bay a grass fire damaged a vineyard and destroyed a barn in South Livermore this afternoon. The fire was reported shortly before 2 00 near east vineyard avenue and vallecitos road. There were no reports of injuries, and the cause of this fire remains under investigation. In san jose people who were forced out of their homes in february when the coyote creek flooded are now taking legal action in hopes of getting reimbursed for all the property they lost. They say the Evacuation Order wasnt given fast enough. Today a group of people whose homes were damaged filed legal claims against both the city and the county. Jesse gary has our report. They need to take the steps to be sure this doesnt happen again but they also need to address the claims, take them seriously. Contra costa Animal Services said the old process left a lot of issues unresolved. The new process adds a civil citation element and an administrative hearing process to help mediate the issues. This is one of the most frequent calls we get at Animal Services, is complaints about dogs barking through the night, barking through the day, people need to sleep, they need to be able to do their work and concentrate when they can. Officials hope the new process helps get to the bottom of the problems and brings neighbors together. A Mountain Lion sighting in the south bay has forced the closure of a trail and road. Cristina rendon is in san jose where the citys parks and Recs Department said it made the decision in the interest of public safety. Reporter frank, julie, we understand that the Parks Department has been receiving calls about Mountain Lion sightings for the past seven to ten days. Just last night they confirmed it for themselves. Cell phone video shows a Mountain Lion in san joses park. It was captured wednesday around 5 30 by a park manager who says the animal was about threequarters of a mile up one way road. Having multiple sightings during Daylight Hours sun usual. In this case the animal has been seen multiple times in a relatively confined area. It is not immediately walking off. It is not aggressive, it is not displaying stalking is behavior. Reporter after consulting a decision was made to close oneway road for 48 to 72 hours to give the Mountain Lion a chance to move further into the canyon and away from public areas. And that road that goes up to lake berryessa, up to the dam, thats the area that is burning right now. It is along the creek. And that is an area that has seen some fires a couple years ago where we had a big fire. But the area has got a lot of dry brush, hat got a lot of dry trees. There arent a lot of homes in that area. There are out on Pleasant Hill road, but in the fire zone now as we see it the fire is burning in a different region, so that is good. But we will keep our eyes on it.
