Not going to fail. If anything was to happen we might get some debris that is is going to get kicked off to the side of the building towards that northeast of the building. Reporter and that was the point they repeatedly made to us just at this briefing that the crane and the wall is not going to come down, but they are still evaluating the situation. They have city engineers, an expert coming in from washington state. All of this is under evaluation. What they do next they are still evaluating. Amber, have they given any indication as to when they will lift that Evacuation Order . Reporter no, but they said there will be a briefing at 7 00, at 8 00, and then at 9 00. It appears they may have an answer around 8 00 whether they ask that question when will people be allowed to come back in. They say they will know more at 8 00, but they just dont want to take a chance. Public safety, theres a lot of people still in this area south of market, it was very busy. Im also told the Highway Patrol has been brought in to close off the offramps. Just to confirm all the buildings that have been evacuated in the surrounding areas, the ten other buildings, they are nonresidential, correct . Are they just commercial . Reporter well the Fire Department is saying 16 buildings that they evacuated were all business buildings. But we did get a viewer as i said earlier that called us to say his building, which is right there. He said it is right next door to the building. He is at 19th and that his five unit residential building has also been evacuated. When you look at the live pictures from sky fox you can see that platform there is really leaning. Did they say exactly what they would do to sure it up . Reporter not yet. I stepped out to bring this report to you, but we will be asking that question. I would like to know how do you sure up something that looks kind of precurious rather quickly, right . Because this call came in at 2 45 this afternoon. And they did point out the crews were very responsible. As soon as they saw there was a failure in one of the structures supporting that structure, they immediately called the Fire Department. And the crews went down to the building nearby to notify the people in those buildings to evacuate. But once again amber the headline right now tonight is that they are now saying they do not think this structure here is in any danger of actually falling down to the ground . Reporter yes, that is absolutely correct. And they kept emphasizing that. Possibly debris, but not the crane and not the wall. And traffic right now amber, is it getting any better or appearing worse where you are . Reporter you know, there is less people. Theres fewer people and less traffic, but some of the streets are still closed up as you can see behind me. You know, Second Street leading up, it is still blocked off as you can see the fire crews out there. So i would think for a few more hours there is going to be some street closures at least for the next few hours. Yes, it is always tough getting around this hour. Thank you, amber. We will let you get more information to us. In the meantime we want the addresses of the nearby buildings we have that have been evacuated. Here they are. On Howard Street 543, 531a27, 555, 547, 505, 557. And 44th and south tahama street also affected. Now here are some street closures for you tonight. Howard street is closed between second and first. Tahamas street between second and first is closed. First street is closed. The freeway ramp from westbound 80 is also closed. Stay with ktvu fox 2 as we are working to get you more information. When we do well bring it to you. Now to the latest on the situation at the oroville dam in butte county where some people were still nervous as more storms are on the way. Work will continue to sure up the damage of the emergency spillway with thousands of tons of rock, sand, and concrete. This afternoon state and county officials said the main spillway remains stable despite the large amounts of water that is being released. The emergency spillway would lead to the evacuation of nearly 190,000 people on sunday. Then the Evacuation Order was lifted yesterday and everyone was allowed to go back home. Ktvu tom vacar talked to people in oroville today who were glad to be back. Its good to see you. Reporter jims cafe is a fixture in oroville. They were early today, just wondering. And my employees are here in the bay area, some are ready. Today i just opened up with a skeleton crew. Reporter before the evacuation was lifted, it was all worry. I was worried about everything. I was worried obviously about my employees, how were going to pay our bills, when are you going to be able to go home. Are we going to have a building to come back to. And i would come here two to three times a week and the only place in town to get a good bowl of oatmeal. You are stuck until you get the all clear to come back and youre on pins and needles until they do or they dont come back again. So it is business as usual until Something Else comes up. Reporter but it is great to be back. Everybody has stories where they are at, where they are coming back from, whether or not they have to come again, so everybody has got the same thing on their mind, they are talking. Reporter he is worried about his shop and for those folks gathered to play chess. Ive got stuff in here thats irreplaceable, you know, this is my livelihood. Reporter in oroville theres a lot of traffic today to the mostly deserted streets. But not everyone is is back, not by a long shot. I think it will take a while for them because theres a lot of people that are not coming back. What they are doing up there that is a fixture right now. A lot of people are not sure that will be cured for now, that they have been away. Reporter oldtimers around here saw me, but the dam probably saved oroville this week and because back in the 1950s before the dam was ever built, the river would flood regularly. In one year the city was under 10 feet of water. Tom vacar ktvu fox 2 news. We are tracking weather up in the northern part of the state where they would lie because that is where, you know, you need a bunch of rain up there and the problems as they would have rain coming in this morning, but it is not, repeat, not the system we would see, that we have been seeing for basically the entire winter with the heavy rainfall rates, the flood warnings. This is a whole different deal as we would have three storms coming. Here is number one. They are separated by little brakes in one case and it would take a twodaybreak and they are not expect today drop more than two inches of rain for each event. The first event is expected in the water shed to drop about an inch, an inch and a half. If you go out on the deep end you could see maybe two. Here is why the dam is built here with the west branch. Here is the north fork, Middle Branch and southern fork. Now this is one of the wettest areas in the state right here and their rainfall. That is why they built their dam right here. Now these four tributaries will be receiving anywhere from one to three inches of rain in this next weather event. And the damage will be way down. It will be just tomorrow. Eothen eugene on friday and then again on monday. And they will not appear to be causing those problems with the work that will be going on at oroville dam, but they will cause problems with their commute and they will cause problems with the people still evacuated, not in their homes. When i come back i will talk more about that and how their next system will impact us. All right, now to the arizona desert where the oakland as had their first workout today. Yes, ktvu joe fonzi is in mesa where the pitchers and the catchers would have their first practice today, joe . You know frank if you are a bay area baseball fan youre pretty lucky. You can watch one team and they will drive about 12 miles to mesa and they would open their spring training camp, which they did today. Its not the way the as would intend to go, but they made off season changes, everybody is optimistic this time of the year and the oakland as are no exceptions. Reporter for a while today it was catchers and catchers at the as camp. Then the pitchers would show up. Words were exchanged and it was time to start the first bullpen sessions of the spring. Guys are excited about getting going. It feels really good to go back out there again. And for me it is all about doing what you need to be doing. When you get in here youre ready to go. It is for us today, everything is going really well. Even though they are just seeing half of the description, no one usually asks how their days went, but they need to use their first days of camp to get up to speed as well. Not in a long time, you know, moving all over the place and they are just excited, so it is exciting for us to get our legs underneath as well. Mr. Is plenty to be settled with 34 pitchers in camp. The only thing they could say for sure right now is their first two starters, sunny gray and kendall graveman. Im fine right now, it is healthy for us to have the group that we do, the guys who will be fighting for some spots. A part of my message is you dont feel like you will be lost, you have to be ready. They are pitching well. Reporter one issue addressed in the hack acquisition, guys who could contribute to well being in the clubhouse. If you are around long enough, youll have clubhouses who are considered good, bad, we have a couple of inches, but if you win there will be a Good Chemistry and if not it is not when things are going well. There is no shortage of questions. And youre confident they could do much better this time. That they lost 93 games. They are always evolving, but they like what they do giving them a good combination of experience and youth. Joe, where are you headed next . We will do one more day in scottsdale and then we will call it a nice week of work here in arizona and their desert. That is very funny. Thanks.
