Reporter the wind had picked up dramatically in the passed three or four minutes. You can see behind me there is some fire activity on this ridgeline. Were just outside of the town of brightwood. They have been doing an excellent job of keeping the fire in check. It is trying to keep down the ridge line. On the other side of this valley our homes up in the hillside. This is the front line of the town of brightwood. This is one of the most concerning parts of the fire. Right now, there is a town so close to the flames. But Mother Nature is helping with this firefight. The winds are sustained it this point. And they are blowing in the right direction, away from the town of brightwood. This morning it got worse and worse. We smell the fire. And the smoke started getting thicker and thicker. We packed up our necessities. It is coming down the ridge. There are houses of there. And then you have the crest area. Reporter what did you take with personal belongings, passports, for certificates in cash. Reporter how long have you lived here . Since 2010. This is the second fire we have been through. Reporter unfortunately we lost our signal with ted. The town has been evacuated. The problem is if the wind shift, brightwood would be in the path of the flames. Right now the winds are pushing the fire away from brightwood. At this point the numbers are staggering. 82,000 people a vacuum but if you 30,000 acres have burned. Zero containment. You have about 1300 firefighters on the fire lines. They have two massive dc10 caretakers dropping fire retardant. Many people having to pack up and get out. The 2 main routes out of that area. Getting out of their yesterday was difficult. People have to pack up and get out. The wind shifted and the fire exploded taking off after starting around 10 30 am yesterday morning. A Railroad Trestle caught fire just after 4 pm. It put up a a lot of dark smoke. Firefighters tell us it may have started from a grass fire. We have learned that they are not currently in use the tracks are owned by the south Bay Transportation authority. Fire went up the hillside near the coyotes creek country club. It started self the baby avenue on the south side of 101. 100 acres burned. They called in air support. The third fire was the smallest. It brought a small patch of vegetation in the downtown area near Guadalupe Bay park. And the sap center. They had their hands will initially but they make quick work he it under control. And there were thousands of fires. Here is the red flag warning. You can see the winds. They are going to shift. As they predominantly out of the south is good that allows firefighters to plan for fighting this fire. They are up on the ridge lines and letting it burned down in the canyon. 96 degrees right now. People who live in the burned some are still waiting to see what is left of their homes. He was charged with 14 counts of arson for setting the fire and lake county in many others. He is also facing drug charges. The Crime Reporter tells us the construction worker actually fainted before he entered the courtroom. Reporter he passed out before his Court Appearance in need of some water. When he walked in he turned away from news cameras and kept his face down. Investigators say he started 11 smaller wires as well as the huge fire that has destroyed 200 homes and burn thousands of acres. That we are confident that is our guy. The serial arsonist, and the yearlong investigation. Reporter authorities will not say how they identified the suspect but they did say they were sticking him out long before the creighton fire but they never caught him in the act. His bail has been set at 5 million. Some evacuation orders were lifted this afternoon in lower lake. We are learning new details about another destructive while fire that burned 43 homes last year. Officials are now making the rocky fire to an illegal marijuana growing operation. That brings it to a total of eight homicides this year. That is to more than all of this time last year. They have their hands full with homicide investigations. Our detectives are working with no days off. All the stuff happen in a short period of time. Joke there have been five homicides on hayward street. Some homicides are still open. We haveabut we dont have the serial murderer going around. It is unfortunate that they all happened at the same time. But i want to ensure people these are unrelated, isolated incidents. Reporter investigators say at 11 45 pm officers responded near florida street. Where a man and a woman were robbed of their cell phones at gunpoint. They told police that after complying the man was shot and then the man took off in a candy apple red suv. Investigators say they are following up on a strong lead. We hope people come forward we need their help. We need to look at videos and see what they say. Reporter with so many crimes i asked if the lease will be up can beef up controls . In Emeryville Police are investigating what may have been a gun battle in the middle of a residential neighborhood. They are asking for the publics help to identify the vehicle in this surveillance photo. This photo shows a picture of a man leading out of the window with a semi automatic weapon. This happened about 11 30 am between 45th and 47th st. The person in the white sedan was shooting at a gray sedan. They do not know if the gray sedan was firing back. And of the street there are businesses. There were people walking on the street and people in their homes. Based down shell casings from 2 different guns. They are hoping to hear from anyone who witnessed this or knows anything about the people involved. A city man is behind bars after a Gang Task Force found guns and ammunition in his home.
