He died when police cornered him in a parking garage and detonated a robot. As we tried to unravel this fishing knot we realized the shooting came from one building at Different Levels by this suspect. Reporter authorities searched johnsons home in mesquite, texas, a suburb from dallas. The bureau of alcohol, tobacco and firearms carried out bags of evidence, and Dallas Police say they found bomb making materials, ballistic vests, rifles, ammunition, and a personal journal of combat tactics. The Dallas Police chief says johnson was angry about the loss of black lives. This is the deadliest day for u. S. Law enforcement officers since the september 11th terrorist attacks. And cristina, seven officers were wounded in the attacks. Have you learned more about their conditions . Reporter we have. When the Texas Governor spoke, he said that those remaining officers were all released from the hospital today. That is some good news on this very sad day. Cristina, thank you. And president obama is cutting short his trip to europe to return home to the u. S. With plans to visit dallas early next week. Earlier today he spoke about the shootings from a nato summit in poland, and he urged the nation to support our Law Enforcement community. Today is a wrenching reminder of the sacrifices they make for us. We also know that when people are armed with powerful weapons, unfortunately it makes attacks like these more deadly and more tragic. And in the days ahead were going to have to consider those realities as well. In honor of the victims in dallas the president has ordered the flags to fly at halfstaff at the white house and on all public buildings and public grounds. In the meantime, attorney general Loretta Lynch also spoke out about dallas today, and the Deadly Police shootings of two black men, one in louisiana, the other in minnesota earlier this week. After the events of this week, americans across our country are feeling a sense of helplessness of uncertainty and of fear. These feelings are understandable and they are justified. But the answer must not be violence. The answer is never violence. Rather, the answer, our answer, all our answer, must be action. Calm, peaceful, collaborative and determined action. We must continue working to build trust between communities and Law Enforcement. Now back here tennessee Bay Area Police in San Francisco say they plan to have officers monitoring a planned protest which is just getting underway at this hour. Its being called a rally against police brutality. Its being organized by several groups. Amber lee is at Justin Herman plaza by the embarcadero. How many people are there right now . Reporter roughly about 100, but we expect the crowd to grow. It was advertised on facebook. Behind me you can see People Holding banners and signs, and up on those steps people are expected to start speaking at any moment now. After about an hour here the plan is for these protesters to march up Market Street to city hall to protest the recent killings of those two African American men. Here with me is joey johnson with Revolution Club, one of the organizers. Thanks for joining us, joey. Tell me, what is the message behind tonights march and demonstration . The message tonight, theres a diverse crowd, all demanding to an end to murder and terror at the hands of police. Were united around this protesting. Murder and terror by the police is absolutely righteous and necessary. Reporter we are in mourning for those Dallas Police officers but at the same time you said you didnt want to the prevent people from coming out. What im saying, despite an incident in dallas in which five cops were killed, it doesnt change the fact that protests against Police Murder and terror must continue. It must intense file. And people must continue to seek the causes of whats at the root of this, why does this keep happening. Philando castile, alton sterling, two black men who were killed in cold blood by depraved police for nothing except being black. This has got to stop. These videos are being seen by people all over the world. People are seeing the depraved actions of the police and demanding that it end. And theyre going out into the streets. Last night they were 2,000 people in the streets of oakland. There were people in the streets all over the country. We have right on our side. I want people to go to see this statement that the Revolution Club has posted about this police terror. We say straight up, over 500 people have been killed by the police in the u. S. Since january. I asked them, will there be anything else beyond city hall, and they said that is to be announced. Amber lee in San Francisco. A live picture now from atlanta where protesters have walked onto a major interstate, blocking traffic, hundreds of demonstrators made their way on to interstate 85 south of downtown atlanta near the interchange for 175. You can see a lot of people out there at this hour. Police are also on the freeway there trying to keep those protesters from advancing. Well continue to watch this situation. If we learn more we will bring it to you. Also, we had a similar scene in oakland last night when protesters blocked traffic on 880 for about four hours. Now another rally is scheduled to take place in san jose. It starts in an hour, were told. This afternoon we found a small group of People Holding signs outside city hall. One of those signs reads, good cops will stand with us and admit that bad cops do wrong. A second gathering in the same place is expected to begin in about 50 minutes at 7 00 tonight. All of this comes as the San Jose Police Department Announces changes to their deployment tactics. Its a move the department is making to try to keep officers safe. Ktvus jesse gary is live at Police Headquarters. Weve seen a number of protests. Are police getting any support from the community . Reporter julie, we found south bay resident susan levy putting up signs like this at multiple locations around the south bay here at Police Headquarters and over at city hall. It says in part, you are appreciated. It also thanks Police Officers for being courageous. Comforting words on the heels of a veiled threat against the sjpd just this morning. Every Law Enforcement officer throughout the country is on high alert. Reporter that escalated several ticks for san joses finest after someone put a sticker on a box outside city hall which read kill cops. You cant help but to that have affect you mentally when you hear something such as somebody slapping a sticker that may seem like a joke to somebody but to a Law Enforcement officers means a lot. Reporter police in multiple cities around the bay area are on alert and have altered normal patrols in oakland and san jose. Police will double up by putting two officers in each squad car. Senates not only the safety for the officers but also for our community. We need to be safe in order to provide the service to our community. Reporter san joses police chief says the new configuration will not negatively impact Response Times. We respond to calls generally with two officers as it is. And so it might actually increase Response Time to our priority one calls. Reporter Palo Alto Police took a similar step of increased staffing in light of last nights murders in dallas. The Department Spokesman says doubling up will continue for the next several days out of an abundance of concern for public and officer safety. San Francisco Police Officials Say they already put two officers in each squad car when on patrol. To make sure that we have enough people out there for the size crowd we anticipate. Reporter no matter how many officers ride together in each squad car the slaying of five brothers in blue in another state has put Bay Area Police officers in a state of deep concern for their own safety. Theres absolute allot of fear right now on both sides in the Law Enforcement community as well as the community in general. We just have to continue to work together. Reporter chief garcia says immediately did Community Outreach after the officer involved shootings in louisiana and then in minnesota. He is also doing something for his rank and file. That fire started about three hours ago. As we showed you on ktvu news at 5 00 and at 4 00, it burned intensely for a time with a lot of very thick black smoke. The ahg recycling center is located at smith and cherry streets in newark. People in the area were told to shelter in place. Ktvus ann rubin is on the scene. What a change from when we first talked to you about an hour ago during the 5 00 broadcast. Reporter oh yeah, the situation is much improved out here. Take a look. What you can see left now is a little bit of white smoke. Firefighters say they do have this under control. Now, it all started just after 3 00 p. M. At a business witnesses identify as ahg recycling. The facility handles cardboard, paper, and plastic. One witness record seeing fire burn early on, on a pal lerkts and clearly things spread, and quickly. Were told the worst of it was in the yard area and that burning plastic and rubber contributed to that dark smoke. One trailer was lost, and at one point the fire spread to the Main Building there. Firefighters did an interior attack and were able to get that under control. As far as we know, it did not spread beyond that. And certain that was a concern, because this is an industrial area, and there are a lot of buildings filled with chemicals nearby. There had also been a shelter in place order for residents. Now fire crews have just brought in a bulldozer because theres a lot of material, recyclables in that yard. They will need to separate it to make sure there are no residual embers. What i would like to do now is take a live look from sky fox to give you a chance to see what things are looking like now. The situation really is much improved. They have had Fire Departments out here from Alameda County, fremont, newark, hayward, even as far away as dublin, we understand. But it looks like good news out here now. Just a little bit of white smoke left. Still work to be done but it appears now that firefighters do have this recycling plant fire under control. Frank, julie. As we go into the next few hours everybody is off, or most people. Were looking at temperatures where saturday theyre going to be on the cool side. Were talking about a low Pressure Center thats going to drop down the coast and bring some clouds, a little drizzle, and shave a degree or two off those temperatures. So your highs tomorrow around the bay, theyre in the 60s. The warm spots are in the 70s. Sunday will be warmer. Meantime heres that. You can see its dropping some shower activity around eureka. Thats an honest to goodness weather. Not doing a lot, but its coming from the jet stream. Its not extra tropical or is extratropical. This suspect is going to sits up with drizzle along the coast. But the main event in terms of measurable precip would be north of santa rosa up in the ukiah area, up by clear lake at best. Then its out of here. The fog tonight will probably dissipated as that low gets closer it will just open the inversion up above, and the fog will just vapor rise and turn into cool, moist air, but it wont be in the form of fog that you can see. So thats tomorrow. But there will be clouds. So tomorrow with that marine layer stretching out and the clouds coming in overhead, look for a day with temperatures mostly just in the 60s and low 70s. So heres tomorrow morning. Fog and low cloud footprint. And then here is the afternoon. You see the clouds kind of in and out. Look at the 70s. Just a big paintbrush of 70s on your saturday. Drivers heading through the macarthur maze are still facing delays tonight after a big rig caught fire. The truck was heading northbound on the connector ramp from i80 or from 880, rather to i80 near the Oakland Emeryville city line. The fire started shortly before 1 00 this afternoon. Plumes of black smoke could be seen rising from the highway. Witnesses say debris from the truck was falling onto highway 580 below. Berkeley, oakland, and emeryville Fire Departments all responded. At this hour part of that highway is still shut down. Here is the live picture showing that stretch of road. Its the connector ramp there, the flyover. Northbound traffic in the area was stopped for hours, and its still very slow going on 880 as traffic is detoured off the highway and around the scene. Also today, the coast guard is investigating the source of an oil spill on San Francisco bay. The oil was spotted at oyster point in south San Francisco. They call at minor discharge. The coast guard is working now to determine the type of oil and where it came from. In just about an hour the San Jose Earthquakes are hosting a pride night during a match against dallas. The team is honoring the victims of the orlando nightclub shooting. One dollar from every ticket will be donated to lgbt clarity. The quakes also plan to reinforce rules to discourage fans from shouting homophobic slurs like some did at a game last month. A psa will be played to encourage fans to be respectful. The quakes management says fans who are not acting in a respectful way will be given a warning and then kicked out if the behavior doesnt stop. A 24yearold berkeley man is behind bars tonight accused of sexually assaulting three underage girls. Police say fingerprints connected Johnny Dunbar to three separate sexual assaults dating back to 2008. Two of the victims were under 14 at the time. The third was under 16. Dunbar was arrested in march for a traffic warrant and his fingerprints matched those recovered at one of the scenes. Dunbar is now being held at the berkeley jail. His bail has been set at 415,000. An investigation into a suspicious death is underway in palo alto. Officers say the body of a woman in her 60s was found in a home on creekside drive. Investigators say a Family Member went to check on the victim just before 8 00 last night and discovered the body. Responding officers say evidence at the scene indicates that the death is suspicious. Police say they plan to be on the scene for much of the weekend. A Richmond Police officer has been placed now on leave in connection with a growing sex scandal involving a teenage woman who describes herself as a call girl. Several other richmond officers have been reassigned and are now under investigation. But theyre not on leave as the Department Investigates the extent of the relationships with celeste guap. She has accused the department of trying to silence her by sending her to rehab out of state. But in a Statement Police chief brown said they did reach out to her through Family Justice Center staff with the intent to get her connected to services that could help. Richmond mayor tom butt said hopes the investigation will wrap up quickly. Its not a good thing to have your Police Department involved in Something Like this, for a whole lot of reasons. And i think the sooner we get to the bottom of it and deal with it the bert. In addition to Richmond Police, the list of agencies that have opened investigations into officers involvement include oakland police, two officers reassigned. Three are now under investigation. Alameda county sheriff, four deputies have been cleared. And then the Alameda County d. A. s off, one inspector has been fired. The Contra Costa County sheriffs department, one officer has resigned. Livermore, one officer on leave. San Francisco Police, no numbers available. And the defense logistics agency, one guard has been reassigned. A major blow to the embattled blood testing start up company. The company has received a notice revoking its approval to operate. It is banning the founder and Ceo Elizabeth Holmes from running another lab for at least two years. The agencys decision is a result of an inspection last year. The Companys Technology came under fire after a series of published reports questioned the accuracy of the companys Testing Technology and claims. What investigators say the suspect did in the moments before this apparent ambush. A stolen life, chronicled the 18 years she spent as a prisoner. Her newest book is called freedom, my book of firsts. It recounts her life. She is now 36yearolds old and talks about raising her two daughters who are both fathered by her captor. It was reported about 3 30 pm at smith and cherry streets, thats when these pictures were taken. You can see the smoke in the air. A shelter in place for people in the area was issued. Residents were warned to stay indoors and keep their windows and doors closed. The fire is essentially out. No word on what started it. Police say they arrested five people during a protest, several hundred people shut down highway 880, several hundred people shut down highway 884 about four hours. Even though the posttest was peaceful, one person was given a citation for throwing bottles. The march started with 100 demonstrators, it quickly grew to 2000 people. In Dallas Police have identified the man who they say shot and killed by Police Officers. His name is micah xavier johnson. East 25 years old. He was an army veteran who served in afghanistan. Police say seven more officers were wounded during the attack during a march protesting the shooting of two black men. Johnson was killed when police detonated a bomb being carried by a robot.
