Our Crime Reporter henry lee is on the scene in oakland where that truck was just loaded onto a tow truck. Henry. Reporter yeah, frank, Alameda Police have been on the scene all day. You see public works crews just about finishing up sweeping up the debris from the crash in the parking lot of alameda bicycle. Thats where the fullsized gmc sierra pickup truck came to a rest. We learned seven people were in that truck, and now two of them, one female and one male, are dead. Take a look at video we shot earlier. This all started about 8 00 this morning. Police say that gmc truck with seven people inside was speeding south on park street when it clipped a Toyota Sienna minivan at lincoln avenue. Luckily he wasnt seriously hurt. Today state investigators were back out to examine that water slide in dublin. Ktvus tom vacar is in dublin at the wave water park with more on what happened. Tom. Reporter ive done a Little Research on water park accidents, and what i can tell you is that any kind of accident at a water park is very rare. Even more rare is with a Single Person actually goes out of the chute. Most often its somebody in a barge or a raft or Something Like that, that the whole thing goes out of the waterway. But these individual accidents, very, very rare. Today inspectors came to see what defect or possible chain of events led a 10yearold boy to fly out of a water slide chute. The owner, the city of dublin, led customers and the media alike in to use and inspect the facilities. But with two of its three signature water slides shut down for now. It definitely makes me concerned but theres definitely other features of the water park that we can still utilize that are still safe. Reporter as the day wore on more and more people came to what is sure to be a major recreation spot when temperatures climb in the summer. Hopefully they fix the problem and it seems to be okay, so it seems theres a line out, so i guess people dont really care. Reporter the good news here is that all of the evidence exists. The child can explain what happened. The video shows exactly what happened. And the park itself is totally intact. Whatever repair needs to be made can be made quickly and effectively. Obviously horrible what happened to him, and theres probably fault on both sides. That can be addressed and fixed. But it doesnt scare me at all because i know if i follow the rules i will be safe. Reporter many visitors say safety is a twoway street. Its pretty steep. Any kids that are very light might fall out. Thats what happened in the video. Its closed today. Unfortunately, i hope it will be open soon. Im just guessing he got a little freaked out on the ride and just tried to get off the ride while it was still really fast. Reporter the parents of this young man encouraged their son to give the ride a chance. Odds are the open top chutes will be enclosed, as other ones are here, and padding will be placed around the concrete walkways. Now, one of the reasons i think they didnt after very big turnout today was simply because it was cloudy for most of the day. Its currently pretty cool, and the wind is pretty nippy. That was pretty much the case all day long. Reporting live, tom vacar, ktvu fox 2 news. And kind of a cool weekend out there. Not cold, but not as a warm as we saw a weak ago. Highs today were just in the 60s and 70s. Thats where we go again tomorrow. Theres a lot of fog at the coast. On satellite you can see that weak weather. Thats taken an inversion, thats the depth of the marine layer, and really stretched it out. You see a very active pattern. Thunderstorms around the lake tahoe area this afternoon. Most of the activity, though, has been about cooler weather. You can see the activity if you have friends up at lake that home. Nothing severe but thunderstorms popping up there around grass valley and truckee. You can see it, boom, boom, boom, and most of them died out. That could happen again. There might be a few stray showers or sprinkles but widely scattered. Clearing now at the beach but its down right foggy at pacifica and half moon bay. Temperatures mild. Last week we had some heat, 90s. Right now its 71 in concord, and those numbers are running a little bit behind yesterday. So your memorial day, not half bad. Plenty of heat for barbecues. You can even see mount diablo turning a little brown. What was green, heck, its now brown, brown, brown, and were seeing more and more of that as fire danger comes onto the radar. But this pattern with the marine layer is not a conducive one to high fire danger or high heat. So as we head into tomorrow, more of the same. A mild weather pattern. Overnight lows mostly in the 40s to low 50s. Cloudy, maybe a little drizzle. In San Francisco tomorrow you wake up, youve got clouds, kind of like today, and yesterday, too. This is your back to work tuesday, back to school for many. 52 degrees in San Francisco, 54 in oakland. More clouds. Partly cloudy, partly sunny. Thats San Francisco. Daytime high in San Francisco just 63 degrees. Not a bad plan for tomorrow. Not a scorcher. A nice weekend. Showers and thunderstorms up around the lake tahoe area. Those will be dying down. But overall i hope you guys had a nice memorial day weekend. I love the piece we did right off the top there. Its really sometimes you get the day off and youre all excited, and you think about, why do i have this day off. Its important to remember and pay tribute to our troops. It just kept getting pushed forward with the mud. Reporter out of all of the warnings the february 12th evacuation alert for oroville was unheard of. It resembled the story line of a Science Fiction movie. Essentially what were looking at is approximately a 30foot wall of water that would be coming out of the lake. Reporter a healthy runoff boosted the level of Lake Oroville to alarming levels. Intense water purchaser roded the soil and threatened multiple cities downstream. Over 200,000 residents were evacuated. While the worstcase scenario never happened, crews continue to work on the damaged spillway. In the south bay, a much smaller Anderson Reservoir was failed, too. Coyote creek was working overtime to unload the excess water supply. The president s day storm tipped the scale and flooded parts of san jose. Over 14,000 residents were evacuated, the toll over 70 million in damage. In the sierra it was not just one event. Dozens of intense storms blanketed the slopes with deep powder. Multiple resorts reported over 58 feet of snow for the season. Right now the record snowpack is melting increasing the flood threat in streams. After years of drought the miracle winter seemed like a long shot. All the storms moved in from the pacific, challenged us and changed the landscape of Northern California. The big lesson, always be prepared for what could be headed our way. Well see what happens next winter. Mark tamayo, ktvu fox 2 news. Bill, you know what that says to me, the flooding and that situation at oroville dam, when you look back on this winter, put it in perspective for us. Never been one like that since weve been keeping records. The amount of rainfall, the severity of the storms. We got more rain in the northeast portion of the state than in any other time. Our records go back to 1849, so the gold rush. So it was a winter that we havent seen the likes of. It was Even Stronger than 1982, which was that big el nino year which we measure all winters by. So, yeah, it was that and more. I think what it underscored the most was oroville dam, with what happened down in san jose, was the idea that your infrastructure can only handle so much water, the levees, the dams. Weve got an a aging infrastructure, the levees especially. Its one of those winters in the record books. Boom, 2017. You are going to go right to that in terms of heavy snow. Thats the benchmark. And fur thinking about whats happening around the rest of the country, were dry so were hitting our dry season, mediterranean climate. Its wet everywhere else, at least up in new york, by boston. You can see where the rain is. I always think about folks in the east on memorial day because you want to have your barbecue. Atlanta had some severe thunderstorms. Louisiana, down by, oh, gosh, baton rouge, they had a bit of strong thunderstorms as well. And albuquerque, big weather as well. And then up in our mountains, thunderstorms for us. Not really washing out your party. Just keeping things cool up around truckee and north lake tahoe. Memorial day, some active weather across the country. Theres fog offshore right now. The marine layer is super deep. We talked about that. Up over 2,000 feet. At that point its hard to call it fog. Its low clouds. It will push in tomorrow, and that means a cooler day for your bay area forecast. Not cooler, but like today, belowaverage temperatures. Here we are now, 71 in concord. I would expect concord this time of year to be easily in the 80s. So a good 10 degrees below where you might expect to be. Theres the marine layer, or the fog, or the low clouds, whatever you want to call it. The forecast, San Francisco, it is going to look like this in the morning, and it is going to look like that in the afternoon, then it is going to look like that again in the Late Afternoon with highs around the bay tomorrow mid 60s, upper 60s. The forecast model does this with the fog in the morning, a lot of it. Almost everybodys got some low clouds, like this morning. Then the temperature is warm. The yellows are 70s, oranges are 80s. But you see where the 80s are. Theyre all relegated to the inland bay valley. So a dry pattern for us, but definitely a cool pattern. Definitely jackets.
