Tonight the Golden State Warriors can make it back to their third consecutive nba final. Game four in the best of 7 series tips off in just under an hour in san antonio. Ktvus joe fonzi is there now and he joins us with a preview of tonights game. Joe . Reporter yeah, by now you know the story lines pretty well. The warriors in uncharted territory as far as thefranchise is concerned. They have a chance tonight to win a 12th game and also make it their Third Straight four game sweep in the postseason this year. After the San Antonio Spurs kind of clinging to desperation tonight, you have to be asking yourself, what does it take to beat these guys . Im going to get out of your way right now and let you watch kevin durant as hes warming up. No, were not really sure what music hes listening to. Klay thompson is out there as well right now. If you think about the three games so far, the warriors overcame the big deficit, had the big comeback in game one. In game two all warriors, vintage warrior basketball. Game three, even on a night when steph curry doesnt have his best game, theres Kevin Durante picking up the slack. The warriors know obviously the odds say, what are the chances of the spurs winning four in a row, much less holding them off now . Pretty slim. But you also cant help noticing the phenomenon here. As you see, these big stars warming up right now, the biggest star the warriors, seth curry was out here a short time ago. The phenomenon weve noticed the last few years in the playoffs is that no matter what the arena and its kind of a demographic thing. If youre maybe a High School Kid and an nba fan, its about lebron james. If youre younger than that, its about steph curry. Well represented by the youngsters in the stand, they all rush down whenever steph comes out to warm up. Back to wrapping things up tonight. The warriors know it wont be easy to win the fourth game on the road. Theyre going to fight. They fought last game. And they know what theyre doing. Pop knows what hes doing. Its not going to be easy, especially trying to get a win here on the home floor. Would it mean anything for you guys to get to the finals at 120 . It would mean so much to get to the finals, period. So many players never have that opportunity and to do it three years in a row is special. You dont take that for granted. We celebrate it accordingly and get back to work. Scout our opponent and be ready for the next series. Its hard not to look forward to a warriors cavs series which in all likelihood is obviously whats going to happen. The warriors have to think about getting Business Done here. They continue to make team history and if it is in fact the warriors and cavs in the finals, which everyone expects it to be, that would be nba history as well. No time in history have the same two teams met for three consecutive years for the championship. First theyve got to take care of business tonight and well see you afterwards later on this evening. Reporting live from san antonio, joe fonzi, back to you guys in the studio. There have been injuries along the way. Is everybody healthy on both rosters . Will leonard be playing tonight for the spurs . Reporter no, hes not playing. Theres still a little bit of buzz about that. The incident with leonard when he came down on leonards ankle. The one thing everybody forgets is leonard sprained that ankle pretty seriously when he stepped on his own teammate, david lee, prior to that. Obviously when you have a weakness with the ankle which he already injured that ankle earlier in the postseason and tweak it a couple of times in addition to that, thats pretty bad. They are talking about that a little bit here. Most of the fans we talked to are kind of resigned to the fact that its been a nice season for the spurs, but they dont expect them to win four in a row. Ones going to be tough. Four in a row is pretty hard to imagine. I dont think anybody can see that happening. Joe fonzi in san antonio tonight. Joe, thank you. History made today in israel. President trump became the first sitting u. S. President to visit one of the holiest sites in the world. She said, quote, with the agreement in place cal train can move forward with the electrification project which will ease the commute and create 10,000 jobs. Modernizing it has been a huge priority for the area. Another supported the project saying its a win for the environment. Shes proud our generation is able to build something for the future. Defense attorneys for Garcia Torres spent their first day presenting evidence in the penalty phase of his murder trial. Jurors must decide between life in prison without the possibility of parole or a death sentence. Ktvus south bay reporter jesse gary is covering this place. He joins us now from outside the hall of justice in san jose. Jesse, an emotional day in court. Reporter julie, it was. You feel for the parents on both sides of this equation. One set of parents who lost a daughter, then the mother of the convicted who has to testify to try to save her sons life. And you know, defense team really need to hit a home run. So prosecutors are saying theyre going to try to do that by putting the one person on the stand who knows the convicted better than anyone else, his mother. Any time you can put someones mother on the stand to, in effect, plead for their life, its something you need to do. Reporter aided by an interpreter, laura garcia was on the stand for most of the day inside department 40 of the hall of justice. She told jurors since conception, he lived in a violent home environment. Tearfully she testified her ex husband was verbally and physically abusive and that as a toddler he intervened on three occasions to protect his mother. Why are you treating my mom like this, he said as a 5 year old. My mom is still pretty. Why are you hurting her . Defense lawyers pointed to laura spending a harsh days picking strawberries, going home to a drunk abusive husband. Little or no support for the sons, and when it was it was to the fields saturated with pesticides. They say these are mitigating factors they should consider. The morgan hill teen disappeared en route to school and her body has never been found. All of these factors did not zeus his behavior excuse hisbehavior, but may have affected his behavior and thats what the defense wants this jury to cling to, that this was someone that wasnt the average kid growing up, that he had a lot of challenges and the decisions he made later in life were affected by that. Reporter prosecutors countered the father never abused him and was loving towards his children. Other garcia family members came in contact with presumed pesticides but didnt kidnap or kill anyone. Still defense lawyers hope a sliver of lingering doubt may sway the panel of 12 to vote for prison instead of a lethal injection. In a penalty phase in a Death Penalty case they need to take risks at this point. Reporter one of those risks could be recalling prosecution witness hermanleon. He was the lead investigator in the case and last week was found giving false testimony in another murder case. That conviction in that case, that was set aside. Its going to be a new trial. The Defense Attorneys in this case argue had they known about that, that could have changed the way they presented their defense case. The judge will rule on a motion to bring him back to the stand on wednesday. Live outside the hall of justice here in san jose, im jesse gary, ktvu, fox 2 news. More on the breaking news involving the Ariana Grande concert in manchester, england. Heres shepherd smith now with what were learning. Reporter as the concert is ending, and some people leave the concert just a few minutes early, so you beat the traffic. Youll be able to go down into a train decision and off to a tram station, Public Transportation to get home. As the first people begin to leave, theres an explosion in the foyer or near the box office. Nobody really knew what it was for the longest time. Security services there were telling folks in the arena, you can see these huge crowds, telling them there were a lot of balloons in this concert tonight. They used balloons as part of the stage craft and would say balloons popped and chairs fell. They were trying to tell people everything is okay. Just move about your way. Then we begin to hear of fatalities and then we begin to hear of them treating this as a possible terrorist incident. Now we know they believe this may have been a terrorist attack. 19 people now confirmed dead. Some 50 people now confirmed injured in manchester. There are multiple and varied reports. Fox news cannot confirm them. There are multiple reports that Police Believe that this may have been a suicide bomber, that there are nails in this foyer area, and that its believed this was some sort of makeshift nail bomb. There have been multiple reports from many different areas around this scene in manchester and in greater londonof other locations. Theyre all over social media. If youve been watching youve probably seen something about this possibility of a gunman at a hospital. Well, weve made calls. That is not true. There is no gunman at a hospital to our knowledge. Hospitals are on lockdown and accepting patients. No second explosion, no unexploded bomb at another location. The internet is alive with speculative minutia and its a mess out there in social media right now. The truth of the matter is bad enough. The truth is there has been an explosion of some kind being treated as a terror attack. At 4 20 p. M. British time in manchester as an Ariana Grande was ending. We know 19 are dead, approximately 50 are injured. Were listening to sky news coverage. Sky news is the fox news Sister Network for the United Kingdom in greater europe. Lets listen as they have new information. Thousands of people are streaming into being funneled into small confined areas. Would have been the area to do it. It looks very much like that has been the case at Manchester Arena tonight. The capacity of that arena is huge. Its 21,000 people, and we hear reports suggested it was a full house there. So an astonishing amount of people streaming out of there. We heard earlier of the scenes of panic as people heard that explosion and tried to get out of the arena. And so we can fully imagine what it was like after that explosion went off. It is, as i say, one of the biggest entertainment arena in europe and it is often packed out once, if not twice a week. Often on a saturday and the end after weekend, monday or a wednesday. So its a very busy place. As of about ten minutes ago, weve heard that 19 people have died in this incident. We know that many more have been taken to around about five hospitals that encircle Manchester City itself. Im just seeing in the distance there Police Standing next to a queue of about ten buses which i cant quite see. When those buses come a little bit closer, ill be able to see whether they are full of people. Whether theyre being used for a purpose or just being moved out. There are about four buses queuing up there. I think it looks like people might have been in them. We have seen buses used as evacuation devices. We saw that during the well continue to watch this. Weve just gotten new information from the Manchester Arena itself. The arena has a verified twitter account. Heres what they just said. We can confirm there was an incident as people were leaving the Ariana Grande concert last night. Its now Early Morning there. Quoting, the incident took place outside the venue in a public space. It goes on with thoughts and prayers. What the arena is saying whoever this was, whatever this explosion was, whatever caused it, it happened not in the foyer, not by the box office, but outside that same area. An explosion so big it caused injury and damage inside the building. So the reason in the early going there was no smoke, there was no fire, everybody didnt see what was happening, its possible that this arena is correct when it says it happened outside the venue. Presumably outside security. But was an explosion large enough it affected people inside. Confirming now, 19 people are dead and some 50 are reported injured in the early going. About 2 1 2 hours now after the incident actually occurred. This was manchester in england at one of the largest if not the largest indoor arenas of its kind in all of europe. Authorities are treating this as a terror attack, but have not yet confirmed definitively that it is. Well have updates throughout the night on this fox station. Much more on your local news. In addition, coverage continues now live on Fox News Channel on satellite and cable. So again, weve been listening to live coverage there from fox news of the Ariana Grande explosion that apparently happened, were learning, outside the venue of that huge arena in manchester, england. Up to 21,000 young people packed into the building to listen to a concert from Ariana Grande and the latest numbers coming out are 19 people have been killedand up to 50 or possibly more than 50 other people injured. It may have been a suicide attack. That is the speculation and that the bomber may have packed the explosives with nails. People who were injured have been taken to five different hospitals. Again, this may have happened in a public space outside the arena which presumably meant it would have been outside the security area. Also the headline at this hour this is being treated as a terrorist attack until they learn otherwise. Live pictures now outside of that arena. You can see all of the police cars. There were a lot of ambulances, 50 people taken to hospitals. Unfortunately 19 other people were killed. You can just imagine the panic and the chaos. It was toward the end of the concert apparently Ariana Grande had just left the stage when this loud explosion happened. Triggering chaos there as people tried to run out of the venue. At first there were reports the explosion, possibly up to two loud blasts happened inside the arena. The arena holds 21,000 people. Again we just learned from the manchester authorities there the people there at the venue saying this blast or explosion happened outside the venue. And was Strong Enough to cause damage and injury inside the building. Were going to continue to follow this story. Were working to get more information. As we do, we will update you on this newscast and all of our other newscasts later on tonight. Well take a short break and be back with more in just a moment. We want to update you on the breaking news weve been telling you about, an explosion at the Ariana Grande concert in manchester, england. We just received video of what appears to be one of the blasts at that arena. Take a listen. You could also see a flash on the lefthand side of the screen at the moment of that blast. Police are now confirming 19 people are dead, another 50 are injured. And they were taken to five area hospitals. Ktvus rob roth is monitoring the late developments from our newsroom. Rob . Tech stocks and Defense Companies helped bring wall street into positive territory today. They were given a boost after the United States and saudi arabia signed a multibillion dollar arms deal. Nasdaq and s p gained ground. The 49ers rebuild gains now, thats what the owners are hoping happens after they brought in a new g. M. And a new head coach after the last season. The 49ers hired john lynch to run their front office. Kyle shanahan to coach the team. Not going to be easy though. They finished one of their worst seasons in franchise history last year. The record of 214. We got a chance to sit down with the new g. M. And they join us with that conversation. Pretty impressive gentleman. Even though he has no Prior Experience as a general manager, the thing that struck me if you look at his life and experience overall, hes never failed truly at anything hes ever done. He was a sensational player. He went to school at stanford. He was a good broadcaster, did it the right way through hard work and knowing his subject matter. So i really see it as hell be a success, although it will take some time with the 49ers. And no question about it, john lynch is a guy who leads through example. And you can feel it exuding through the building. He got thrown into it fairly quickly if you think about it, shortly after the super bowl. He and Kyle Shanahan were hired, and right on their heels came the nfl draft. And thats where we pick up our conversation today in part 2. Good evening, and welcome to the nfl draft. I think youve got a little taste of draft day, of how the scrutiny can really, you know, become all of a sudden nationwide or what have you. Well, we have our first trade of the night, San Francisco and chicago have flipped picks. The 49ers now get to move back and if they have their druthers, theyre not done moving back just yet. On draft day, when all that culminated so fast, you get a certain adrenaline as a player out on the field. Did that in any way equal that. It was fun, because the advice i heard from a lot of people about the draft is it can actually be quite boring. You pick and you wait six hours and then you pick again. That wasnt our case. I mean we were picking two from the start. A lot of people were apologizing to me, because they felt like this was a very deep draft, but maybe not as good up top. But i knew in my heart of hearts, ive always been an optimist. I said were picking number two. We dont want to be doing this again. In the end i think what we were able to do is move back one spot, grab a fantastic player that we would have been very happy taking at two. Then gaining a lot of ammunition to move around this draft. Sullivan. John lynch. How are you doing, buddy . Do you want to be a 49er . A little side note, that was kind of a cool story about solomon. I didnt realize you guys were actually in a class together at stanford . Yeah. So i was a football player. He goes the other way and intercepted in the end zone. John lynch, who else . I signed my junior year to play professional baseball so i left stanford after three years. My son challenged me, you always talk to us about finishing. Why dont you . I said, whew, linda, weve got a problem. Whats that . Jake kind of called me out on this and hes right. Ive got to finish. So i went back to summer school. I was a 42yearold summer. I went into class and solomon happened to be in that class. It was called decision analysis and we worked on a project together. I got to know the young man. He was a true freshman at the time. I saw he was a delightful young kid. How important in the mind set is those fans, because if you ever need a reminder, i mean, you saw it on draft day, just up here in this very building next door. Absolutely. Its a big part of this. Seeing firsthand how strong that is. I knew it from opposing players perspective. And now im feeling it firsthand. When you have a championship effort every day, i think in time, well put a championship team. But the important thing is, thats the standard. Thats where we want to get. In closing, well just ask you a fun question, because for too much blame, too much credit, theres always a quarterback. Thats the question i get out on the street more often than not. Whos the 49er quarterback going to be . Look, kyle and i are both believers from different perspectives. I played against a lot of Great Quarterbacks. I never try to give them too much credit when i was playing. As soon as i retired i knew full well how important, in this league. Right now our quarterback is brian hoyer. Were really excited about him. Hes been in kyles system and has been very effective in kyles system. The key to him is staying healthy. Hes got to stay healthy. We think given that he does that and hes working hard to do that, he can be very successful. But were also very mindful that, hey, were always searching for that franchise guy we can have for the next 10, 15 years. Everybody wants that. Theyve seen it firsthand here with joe and steve and alex and kap had his success. Theyve seen Great Quarterback play. And you know, were striving for that and were working for it each day trying to find that guy. All right, people around here know what a Great Quarterback looks like. John lynch, that will be up near the top of his want list finding the franchise quarterback. I talked a little bit about john lynch leading through example, the kind of guy he is. One of the fairly veteran employees at the 49ers told me aside, he said, you know, he just exudes the confidence that is contagious. One time he was walking through the office of the guys trying to sell season tickets, and he actually got on the phone with a perspective ticket buyer and made the pitch. And he said, you know, just those kinds of things bring out the best in people. And they see that hes in it all the way, top to bottom. It looked like he was enjoying himself on draft day, working the deals. Hes so accomplished, like you said. Hes been back to school, got his degree. He was a professional baseball player and went to nfl football. Threw out the first pitch in the history of the marlins organization. You know what i like most about him . The 49ers had jim harbaugh who didnt have a lot of respect for the media. We had trent balke who didnt have a lot of respect. We couldnt get anything out of the 49ers. Now weve got this guy who just talks. He reminds me of steve kerr. He reminds people this day and age of professional football, youve got to have that. You have to be media friendly and be transparent as much as you can be. Another thing that stood out in my mind with regard to my visit down there was just the feeling overall. One of the employees, another guy told me even when we were winning with those aforementioned guys that you talked about, it wasnt fun. And now theyre back to smiling in the hallways and theres a sense of relief. And it starts at the top and he just exudes that confidence. I think it will take some time, but the 49ers, theres an overall feeling by a lot of different people. Positive vibes, make all the difference. Yes, it does. Mark, thank you. Ou. It wouldnt just apply to concerts but to supporting events sporting events, too. Were moving forward with a special events policy that will go before our board on june 1st. That defines the cost and defines how we can recoup that money. The city of santa clara which runs levi stadium says this is sudden and unexpected. Theyve never had to pay for extra service before. Its not anywhere we want to go, you can imagine. Public transportation is paid for by the public and should be provided to the public, including the stadiums. Reporter still they say they and the 49ers are willing to discuss the proposal. Absolutely. We have to look at the whole situation, what are these monies theyre requesting . How are they justifying these funds . And you know, its not something weve negotiated. So this would be brandnew to us. Costs for the augmented service vary from 17,000 to 65,000 depending on the day and time of an event. Vta is hoping the venues will be willing to pay, but those that wont may have to do without extra trains and buses. They, of course, have input but in the interest of public safety, we hope that they move forward and work with us. Weve had projected budget deficit of 20 million for next year. We spoke with some of the riders on board the train at the time. Reporter the derailment occurred about 3 00 p. M. Saturday as the ninecar train was leaving daly city on its way to San Francisco. Thats a relatively light passenger load compared to weekday commutes. But scary nonetheless. There was smoke coming from the back, so we were saying open the doors. And the guy on the p. A. Said i cant open the doors. You have to walk forward on the train away from the smoke. We started walking forward. [ inaudible ] thats when it came off the tracks. It fell off the railings and i looked to my right and its all smoking. Reporter that area of the rail, bart says, very close to a switch tracks was last inspected may 18, 2017, and checked out just fine. Two people riding to the daly city station say their train came to an abrupt station just across from the derailed train. What we did see was a few firefighters going down and they were walking towards the car where everything had taken place. You could see through the windows, people coming off and the firefighters helping them down. A lot of older folks, so it seems like they needed help getting out. Considering barts age and the millions and millions of trips that it makes every year, over its history its only had a small, tiny handful of derails. Back in 1972 a train carrying no passengers failed to stop at the end of the fremont line and went into the parking lot. Two decades later in 92, a train near oaklands 12th street station derailed, causing a fiveday closure of the line. In 2006, a train went off the tracks between oakland afters 12th street and lake merit stations. That also happened again in 2009. But the pace picked up on the aging system beginning 2011 and 2014 when twice cars derailed just after leaving concord station. Last year, a new generation test car overshot the end of the test track in hayward. May 8th, this year, an old generation car derailed at the same test tracks. Then came saturdays 8th and most recent derail in 45 years of service. The problem, a failure where two rails are mechanically tied together did not come at the area that was rebuilt last year. Tom vacar, ktvu, fox 2 news. A Flood Warning is in effect in the sierra, nevada, for areas in the path of a rapidly melting snow pack. The Weather Service issued a Flood Warning for the next couple of days along the western slope of the sierra. Two rivers are overflowing the banks, turning normally dry land into flood plains creeping closer to homes. One homeowner in South Lake Tahoe says he took precautions by installing a water pump in his basement. Im glad i did it, because i didnt know that we were going to not have water or have it or whatever. You just dont know from year to year whats going to happen. That homeowner decided to install the pump after a flood last year. The national Weather Service is warning people to be prepared for more flooding along rivers and advising people to stay away from the flooded waterways. Lets talk more about that and also our weather here. How concerned are you about the flooding in the sierra . Not really. The flood plains are becoming wet. Thats what they are, flood plains, and thats what theyresupposed to do. So like on the merced river in the yosemite valley, its a controlled flood. Where the water is going to go is where they know its going to go. This isnt like a flash flood. This is a flood we can see where its going and when its coming. Not really concerned because people will be able to take precautions like that gentleman able to get the sump pump going. Getting a lot of snow in the mountains, over 200 of snowfall accumulations in some cases. Almost two winters worth of snow. Its cooled off along here. Its warm up there. Theres definitely a lot of snow melt. Five feet a week basically were losing up there. Thats a lot of snow melting quickly. A lot of runoff. Cold, cold rivers. American river, yuba. 94 in fairfield right now. Thats warmer than yesterday by one degree. Its cooler in napa and santa rosa. A little cooler overall than we were yesterday. What i want to show you is the top of the marine. The High Pressure of the air is sinking. It forces it down and a lot of times that forces air into getting squished through the gate. Right . This layer right here is about 1,000 feet. So the inversion is about 1,000 feet. Its enough to get at least kind of through the gate and thats allowing for a cool down today. But significant cooling tomorrow as that inversion or that lid lifts to about 1,500 feet. Thats going to drop temperatures really for the rest of the week. Forecast model, there it is. Fog comes in tomorrow morning. Thats over 1,500 foot inversion. Most temperatures tomorrow in the bay area are going to be in the upper mid80s inland, low 80s hot spots. Most of us will be in the mid to upper 70s. A more typical, cooler day in the bay region for your forecast for tuesday. Theres the fiveday forecast. That kind of flooding, we know its coming, they know its coming. Its usually easy when you have a flood plain, you just move the campers out of there. They dont have a lot of buildings built in flood plains typically. Bill, thank you.
