Mountain home an escape from the ordinary. A former tech engineer captivated by the 3700 square foot house looks like a hawaiian retreat tucked away in the hills. Or at least it did until winters wrath arrived. For three days without a ton of rain. My weather station was showing three quarters of an inch an hour. Reporter rain water rushing down the slope of the Santa Cruz Mountains. Eroded the soil beneath his deck. It gave way sliding almost into the road. You heard a big snap and it was all the legs going because the rest of the hill went. And that is what is sitting down there now. Reporter the deck and the hot tub are complete losses. Cupping clear the mud and debris which finally reopened last weekend. But there are fears more rain could produce more slides and more damage. We might be in more trouble. With all the gopher holes and all the saturation of the banks and water coming different holes that are coming out uprooting the trees. I think were going to see more landslides. Are you doing anything to get ready . Yeah. Clearing the culverts and trying to make sure the road is passable. Reporter Felipe Hobson is using his backhoe to help corral mudslides where he can but for mark alt, a different concern. Insurance may cover the loss of his deck and hot tub but not the land underneath it. And heavy rains that caused this damage could send his house over the edge as well. We are 10 feet over. So it could easily something could go much bigger and im concerned about that. So well see where that all goes. Reporter mark says a Santa Cruz County inspector came out. Check this house and gave the green light. The house is safe for now. We did see a lot of erosion and a lot of exposed tree roots on properties. In that area. So it is conceivable if we get a lot of heavy rain over the next couple days marks house could be in jeopardy. I can tell you this was in the past 20 to 30 minutes the sky has gotten darker here in los gatos. Thats where we are live this evening, jesse gary, ktvu fox 2 news. Thank you so much. Lets talk more about our weather now. Bring in bill martin. One down. And two more on the way. Two more on the way. The next one similar to what we had last night. Today was essentially a break today but look at some of the 24 hour rainfall totals that we got out there. Take a look in close here. I saw six inches by the northwest or up by bodega bay. But by phone at all. Winds north of santa rosa at four inches of rain. Canfield over two inches of rain. Significant totals. Some areas saw more than this. But it was a powerful event. We had scattered showers today. That was the break day that we needed because it really didnt it did give creeks a chance to come down. Theres a winter storm warning in effect for the lake tahoe area. Snow levels around 5200 feet. A bunch more snow. Over a foot and a half of snow and this is the next system. System number 2 coming in and its going to have a texture of late tonight or early tomorrow morning. Right now seeing light showers kind of working their way in off the coast but widely scattered showers around the area. Afternoon commute going off without a hitch. Not tomorrow morning. Tomorrow mornings commute is going to be wet and wild. When i come back thats what were going to highlight. Overnight late tonight into friday morning. Thats the main event. For more than a century cnh sugar has been a fixture but now the plant is dont have to do it with a lot less. The raiders have now applied to move to las vegas. Sports director mark ibanez will be here to talk about what this means. Oakland Raiders Head Coach Jack Del Rio has been named coach of the year. He led the raiders to a 124 regular season. They also made their first appearance in the playoffs since 2002. The honor comes just one day after outside linebacker khalil mack was named defensive player of the year by the pro football writers of america. As all of these postseason awards are being announced, the team is looking to move. The nfl announced the raiders submitted an application to relocate to las vegas. The Stadium Committee will spend the next few weeks reviewing the application before voting. Lets bring in sports director mark ibanez to talk more about this and to kind of delve into the issue because i think theres a lot of questions. I know frank has got a few questions. What happens next . What does this mean . And what happens next . There are going to be a million more questions. You could say the next step appears to be late march when the owners will have to evaluate things. Take it to vote. Lets say that succeeds and theres a lot of momentum. So the next step is yeah. Youve been cleared to move to las vegas. How are you going to get the money . Former raiders ceo amy trask addressed that and there have been different issues stated as to whether they will get the money from going to wall street to get it or with the billionaire mogul adelson. Here is what amy trask said with regard two huge amount of money the raiders would need to raise. They are not doing a deal like this for altruistic reasons. So i have to smile anytime someone says to me you know, Sheldon Abelson is going to want hes going to want to get a really good deal for himself. Well, no kidding. Of course hes going to want to get a good deal for himself. Thats what he does. Ownership of course a different issue. Because the league has very, very strict issues with respect to owners and gambling and although he moved to las vegas wouldnt be negatively impacted by the fact that theres gambling in las vegas, they would have to be a lot of work done to isolate him before he could own any. So you heard it. A lot of work needed to be done in all respects. And i wouldnt call them the Las Vegas Raiders yet. But the momentum is heading in that direction. Thats what it seems like. But i think money and where hes going to get it is top of the list right now. And i think a lot of people are hoping obviously the raiders are going to stay. A lot of people are optimistic that at the very least get another season out of the raiders in oakland but i think a lot of people want to know and fans want to know do they want to stay in oakland . Do they want to leave . We have not heard the actual owner come out and say do we want to stay or go . The Oakland Raiders owner mark davis has made it clear with everything he has said and done that he is full steam ahead. No doubt about that. Interesting thing that came out today, ronnie lott and his group, fronting that says that we are still in it. Still playing to win. They still think they can do it but amy trask also pointed out with regard to his group, theyre also going to want something and mark davis has been steadfast in making sure that everyone knows he is not going to give up a piece of the Oakland Raiders. Every indication is hes always wanted to move the team out of oakland whether it be to l. A. Or vegas. This guy wants to move. One thing i found interesting was when the chargers said theyre going to move to los angeles theyre still building the stadium. Its going to be two years before they will have that. In los angeles. But they are not going to stay in san diego. Theyre going to play in a small soccer stadium because they want to build a fan base in l. A. Lets say for the sake of argument the raiders do in fact intend to move to las vegas. Would they moved to las vegas and play in the unlv stadium perhaps . While the new stadium is being built . I could see them still playing here and if i was a raider fan, i dont know if id want to go to a game. Its a lameduck situation. Happened before. With tennessee. They were still in houston before they moved. They had a couple of lameduck seasons, if you will. A couple of the players said worst experience of their lives. Nobody showed up. Apathy in the community. And i would think even as fervent as raider fans are, that there would be a lot of backing up saying you dont want to be here. Were not going to the ms. On the other hand mark davis said hes going to keep the team here for at least a couple years. Perhaps even three. As a parting gift, he will give them a super bowl. Thats his quote. As hes been on record as saying. If you had to guess, what would you put the odds at of the raiders going to las vegas . Youre going to put me on the spot . I am. Ive been pretty optimistic with regard to the raiders staying. I think there are a lot of a lot of hurdles unforeseen right now with regard to them staying here. Im going to put it at 7030. Staying in oakland. Really . Yeah. A lot of things get to heaven. In fact we still dont have that nfl owners vote either. Right. As a raider fan i hope you are right. And vegas dont have a good fan base there. I think remains to be seen. Forget las vegas. They are the Oakland Raiders. Thank you. Silver and black. A wet day out there today. Last 24 hours have been pretty wet. Check out the rain totals. Over four inches. Over six inches up around the will not area. A wet day. But really the heaviest rain was yesterday. Today was a bit of a break. And then morning commute is going to be a really a little bit dicey. Here is the system im tracking. Pretty impressive looking. Extended here. Theres the parallel. The main system. As it rolls and its going to start getting in here scattered showers up to midnight. After midnight it will start to wrap up and ill show you that on the computer model. You can see the current temperatures. 53 in napa. 54 in oakland. 52 in walnut creek. Temperatures on mild side. Snow levels 5200 feet. Winds not as gusty as they were yesterday. Yesterday gusts up to 54, 55. The winds have died down a little bit. Oakland tomorrow morning about 48 degrees. Raining on the morning commute. In the afternoon, a little break. Right . So its going to be breaks in the afternoon. Thats around lunchtime. Late in the day, more scattered showers. So not a bad day. Tomorrow technically is a storm day. Not the break day but were going to see breaks in the afternoon. And then a full break on saturday. So heres the computer model for tomorrow. There it is. Midnight tonight, 1 00 a. M. Thats when the guy comes onshore and this will wake you up. Pretty strong pop. And then boom. 4 00 a. M. Before the morning commute. Right . Very Early Morning or before. Roadways are going to be wet. Creeks are going to be high. Northbay and Santa Cruz Mountains there will be mudslides. The ground is saturated now. Two inches of rain would do that. So driving into work in the morning, still dark at 5 00 a. M. Or so, kind of be aware of whats on the road. If theres a rock on the road. As the sun comes up well see standing water on the roadway but not as heavy from the sky. Morning commute is going to be one of those wet morning commutes with ponding water. And the rest of the day just scattered showers like that. Heavy at times but there will be breaks. As we look at the rainfall accumulations tomorrow you are looking at up to an inch and a half in many bay area urban settings. Temperatures in the 50s. Tomorrow and fiveday forecast, i keep harping on these breaks but it would be a hold a whole nother newscast if we didnt get that break today. And saturday. And we will. Its going to happen. So its fortunate. A lot of rain. Were going to get a lot more late tonight or early tomorrow. There was sometimes yesterday we were talking about it last night where it was really coming down. Oh, yeah. Looking at that again tomorrow . Rainfall rates will be what they were last night which got us to flood advisory which got us flood warnings which gave us the slippage and hot tub down the hill. Stuff is going to happen. Did just will because its winter. But the storm is going to have a break on the backside of it. Somewhere in the afternoon which will be very helpful. Thank you. Definitely have to keep our eyes on that there. Weve had a few breaks in the rain. It was kind of sunny out there in contra costa county. But tomorrow a different story . Different story into tomorrow. The rain picks up again just in time for the morning commute. That sets us up with obviously the concerns you have. Friday morning commute always kind of sketchy but you dont rain on it its going to be heaviest rain before the commute. In the mountains winter storm warning. Whats going on up there . Tons of snow. Avalanche concerns definitely an issue. Road closures on and off. Winter storm warning in effect through saturday and then back up on sunday. Basically winter storm warning through the bay area weekend. Snow levels 5000 feet. Outside weve got scattered showers for the most part right now. Thats how it goes on night. Like scattered showers. As this system moves in, the showers will ramp up and somewhere around 3 00 a. M. , you will hear it and that is going to be a lot like it was last night about this time. Last night we had the heaviest rain. Thats how its going to be into the overnight hours. About 3 00 a. M. Its going to get heavy rain. Might see small stream flood advisory. Most of us wont know its happening because most of us will be sleeping but if you are getting up to go on a commute if theres going to be lots of water on the roadways theres going to be rock slippage. Just be careful driving in early especially in the dark on what grade where the rockslides are coming through 24 by the tunnel there. I forgot the name of the tunnel. Caldecott tunnel. Yesterday storm was productive. Thats wednesdays obviously. Fridays is going to be right on with that. In terms of rainfall accumulation as much wind. And then on sunday, a stronger storm. But again all some of the same characteristics. So here is the overnight. When i am starts raining pretty hard. 4 00 a. M. Hammering. And then about the time you are getting into work, the heavy rains ended but still scattered showers. The roads damage will be done in terms of standing water. And such. So you get the idea. The rest of the day on friday is marked by scattered showers. Thats not bad. That will give the creeks a chance to come down.
