Forever. If you could get 35,000 plus people down here 80 days a year, it would really revitalize the area. Reporter many improvements would be needed to provide access to gameday and crowds. Since this is on bay fill, costs for a park would be elevated by earthquake colds that require the whole complex be built codes that require the whole complex be built upon solidly steel footed pilings pounded keep into the ground. They would go through layers of loose soils, clays and muds to hit a solid rock foundation. All of this is possible if the support, engineering, permits and finances can be arranged in a way that does not hamper the giant economic gyp engine engine here that is the port of oakland. There needs to be a proposal before you could investigate what, if any, impacts there would be on other port operations. Reporter afterwards nobody was talking about what they saw and how much they liked it and all that. There is a fact thats been around since yesterday they are looking at other sites, but given the fact that mayor libby schaaf has pretty much said the as are staying in oakland, its a good bet one of these sites is actually likely to turn into a ballpark someday or not. Tom vacar, ktvu fox 2 news. It has been a long and winding road, they are saying they are looking at several different sites. Do we know where any of those other sites are . Reporter i think some of the sites are kind of obvious of one would be down where they currently are building it in another space. Theres been talk of doing it south of jack london square. Theres been some talk about perhaps maybe on the other side of the port much nearer to the freeways. There are a number of places that you can do this, but the question is what are all of the other infrastructures that will have to be built in order to service that and by far the Current Location is the best. This one has all kinds of possibilities, but its going to be very expensive to set it up for bringing thousands of people where many thousands of people already live and hundreds, if not thousands, of trucks are moving through every day. All right. Tom vacar reporting live tonight in oakland, thanks. The Golden State Warriors are making a big change announcing today they are leaving knbr radio after 32 years. Lets get a check of our weather now, a much different scene here compared to how its been in other parts of the country. Yeah. We just have really beautiful weather. It is always so odd to go from Something Like that. This is the time of year their weather, sometimes its spring and early summer, thats their worst weather sometimes and now theyre getting into Hurricane Season which is juxtaposed to some of our finest weather of the year. Thats why we all live out here. Were checking some more showers down around louisiana. Look at the national map. I want to show you, of course, you know theyve got a lot of standing water down there because of the rain they received last week and they are continuing to get rain. On top of this this there is a tropical this there is a tropical disturbance near puerto rico and if that rolls into the gulf, it could be some more rain for louisiana. The gulf waters are running about 90 degrees. So anything that gets in that gulf will have the opportunity to explode, 90 degrees in the gulf of mexico right now. So theres the rain thats showing up out there. Now were going to the albuquerque, amarillo area and lubbock, thats where the rain is heaviest. For us its the fog from Point Conception all the way up deep, there, pushing inland. It will do what its done the last three nights. Get used to it. Heres how it goes the next few days. Fog rolls back in tonight, everybody gets it, morning clouds and drizzle possible and warmer for your bay area sunday. Sunday should be the warmest day on the weekend. Heres all the fog. Heres what were tracking. Lower clouds tomorrow move in and the smoke starts to move up from the soberanes fire. The south winds kind of kick in with this low. We are looking for the opportunity for some unhealthier, less than healthy air quality. Slightly warmer for your bay area sunday, the warmest day on the bay area weekend. Friday, tomorrow a lot like today. Theres your forecast. We are looking for a nice looking period coming up next week with more cool to mild temperatures. The only caveat in the forecast is that smoke which starts showing up tomorrow and probably hangs on till saturday especially inland. How badly do you think the smoke will impact us . I think it will be noticeable everywhere except the livermore and the valley area. I think it will be hints of it but not that bad. It happened more than a year ago, a Hayward Police sergeant shot and killed during a traffic stop. It wasnt until today that the suspect entered a plea. Coming up next our Crime Reporter henry lee was in court today. Hear what happened and what the suspects mother had to say. Look at the problems caused by the states new vaccination law, thousand bay area schools are working with parents to comply. They would not allow him in school until he had a shot. Its been more than a year since Hayward PoliceSergeant Scott lunger was shot and killed during a traffic stop. Ktvu reporter henry lee was in court. What happens next . The case finally now moves forward and assuming the charges stick, realistically it might be a year or two years before this case goes to trial. Hayward Police Sergeant scott lunger was shot and killed in july, 2013, but it wasnt until thursday his accused killer entered a not guilty plea to murder with special circumstances. This is the defendant mark estrada. If convicted, estrada could face life in prison without parole or the death penalty. Lunger was 48 years old and a father of two. As they have at each hearing, lungers family and fellow officers packed the courtroom. Logistically its not possible for everyone to be here, but we will try to show force for the family and the community. Reporter the case has been delayed from the start. The defense wanted more evidence before entering a plea. Hes changed attorneys several times. There was a delay so he could get two attorneys which is his right in a potential capital case. The defense says they still have to review a lot of evidence in the case. We are still working our way through a massive amount of discovery and were just starting our investigation, so not in a position to really comment on the facts at this point. Would have been nice to have a plea earlier, but we have a date set, so were ready to move on. Reporter estradas family was in court. I did pray for the sergeant and actually i prayed to him. I speak to him. Just that im really, really, really sorry and i hope god gives him the strength, too. The next step is a preliminary hearing march next year where the evidence against the defendant will be laid out and a judge will decide whether he goes to trial. I know they didnt have cameras in there today. Does the suspect still look like he looked in those pictures from last year . What was he like today in court . He looks the same, hair down to the shoulders. We werent allowed to film him and he didnt show any emotion. I looked at scott lungers father, too unbelievable strength to sit right there at every hearing feet from the accused killer. It is nice to hear the mother of the suspect talking. You dont hear that every day. I was surprised. She could have just been rude, but she aggressive graciously agreed to talk to me but she graciously agreed to talk to me. So sad because he never had a chance, routine traffic stop. The man pulled out a gun. Shot him in the head, just a horrific situation. Still to come a trip to las vegas is usually a fun getaway for folks. It was all business for the raiders today. Up next what was discussed in a key meeting about the tax that would be used to build a stadium near the vegas strip. Weve been swamped the last three weeks. Students are back at school, but some havent been able to sit in a classroom. Next we check in to see how families in local School Districts are coping with the new vaccine law. Narrator it wasnt that long ago. Years of devastating cutbacks to our schools. 30,000 teachers laid off. Class sizes increased. Art and music programs cut. We cant ever go back. Ryan ruelas so vote yes on proposition 55. Reagan duncan prop 55 prevents 4 billion in new cuts to our schools. Letty munozgonzalez simply by maintaining the current tax rate on the wealthiest californians. Ryan ruelas no new education cuts, and no new taxes. Reagan duncan vote yes on 55. Sarah morgan to help our children thrive. We showed you earlier how the oakland as are looking at a possible site along the oakland estuary for a new ballpark. Meanwhile the oakland raider are considering a move to las vegas. The president was giving a presentation to tourism officials in las vegas. Five days ago the raiders applied for a trademark for las vegas raiders. As for a move, the nfl owners would have to approve it and there are also questions whether las vegas has enough of a fan base to support an nfl team. I got to admit, the drawing of that stadium is beautiful. Our sports director is here with more on all of this. What do you make of all these developments . I make of it to be honest far fetched. Its a nice little drawing, but there are so many hoops they need to run through that if i were a raider fan now, i would say dont even make this a blip on your radar screen. Really . No. 1, i dont think the city of las vegas can sustain filling a 68,000 seat stadium. I dont think the nfl owners are going to approve it. I dont think that in any way, shape or form that las vegas has any idea. The cost keeps rising every time we hear about it. They have to do something. Theyre spending an awful lot of money to do these drawings and time to go there. I dont blame mark davis for entertaining ideas and offers because he cant seem to get a stadium built in oakland and i dont blame the city of las vegas for getting excited about it. I just think in todays reality of having an nfl team, i think we are minimum if everything went perfect. I think were probably four, five years away from us having any real traction. Let me give you a little Counter Point. Sure. You say you dont think las vegas can fill a 68,000 person stadium. Right. Because las vegas isnt big enough. Las vegas is bigger than buffalo, bigger than green bay and green bay has no trouble selling out their stadiums. Also the nhl now has awarded a franchise to las vegas, so obviously they feel there is enough of a fan base and las vegas is a viable market. I think theres a big difference in filling an 18,000 seat arena for hockey and filling a 65,000 seat arena for the nfl. Youll have a good fan base of loyal raider fans, as they say raider nation would probably migrate to vegas and probably enjoy that, but i just dont think over the course of following and absolutely supporting an nfl Team Las Vegas has never been tested in that regard. They even had a usfl team there that didnt make it. Do you think the nfl would even approve it in the first place . No. They need 75 approval and that is one of the reasons theyre fastraking this down there. The owners will meet again in january to see if they can get that approval or at least gauge that. I could make a Counter Point to that that even if the nfl owners dont approve a move to las vegas, who is the only guy who moved a team without approval . Mark davis dad al davis about 30 years ago. If theyre looking to push to move to las vegas, will that hopefully spur something on in oakland to say we want to keep them here . I think thats part of it. You cant blame mark davis for entertaining other offers because he hasnt been able to get the powers that be in oakland to move on that, but i think its so convoluted right now because if the as do get that waterfront stadium and that happens, then that will free up the coliseum site and maybe we can get some Real Movement on that. I think the raiders would be happy with being the only stadium resident. Theres also the question of san diego was hoping to get a new stadium built. San diego could go to l. A. If san diego gets a new stadium, they stay in san diego. That opens up the stadium for the raiders to come down and share it with the rams and thats a beautiful stadium. My true opinion about that is the nfl definitely doesnt want the raiders in los angeles. I dont think theyd get approval for that. Bottom line you think raiders are going to stay where they belong. I really do and if anything does transpire and gets serious with a move of the raiders out of oakland, its a long way off. I can see why theyre excited down in las vegas and maybe some raider fans here in an uproar. Las vegas raiders just doesnt have the same ring to it. It takes an awfully long time to move any team anywhere. Its not imminent, three to four years away minimum. To see more images of the proposed stadium for the raider, log onto www. Ktvu. Com and look for the Photo Gallery on our homepage. Students are facing a new state law heading back to school. All kindergartners and 7th graders must be vaccinated, but how have bay area families and School Districts been coping with all this . We sent ktvus rob roth to find out today. I think they just do their jobs. You talk to men and women in the military and go hey, thanks for your service. Its just what we do. Its nice to show those stories about the good things they are doing and they were able to save that man and we get to show it. I dont think theyre being humble as much as they are just being them. Its just who they are. Its a beautiful thing. I feel that way about a lot of our Service People in the area and all over the country. Temperatures outside today were mild, 88 in antioch, 85 in fairfield, 83 in morgan hill, a little cooler than yesterday.
