A family in concord is breathing a huge sigh of relief after a missing 11yearold boy with autism turned up safe. At noon today Zachary Jordan Smith vanished from holbrook elementary. Police say the boy apparently jumped the fence and made his way to a bart station where he took a train to San Francisco. This afternoon an alert citizen recognized the boy and notified police. He was picked up in the college hill neighborhood. He was reunited with his family. In sunny sunnyvale two houses caught fire. The red cross has been called to help. Still no word tonight on the extent of the injuries of those two injured people. A former Police Officer in the south bay was convicted of exposing himself in public. He could be released from cuss stood in matter of days. The former Santa Clara Police sergeant was convicted of a lewd act inside a store in santana row last summer. He was sentenced to 45 days in jail and five years of probation. The former officer has already served most of his sentence and could be released on monday. He will also have to register as a sex offender with the Santa Clara County sheriffs department. Hes got a tough road ahead of him. His whole life has been in law enforcement. This verdict was a shock to him. But hes a tough guy. I know hes a fighter. I wish him well and i hope he moves on with his life the best he can. Ktvu spoke to the victim. She declined an interview and said she had no comment about the sentence. A huge number of uber and lyft drivers are about to get a bill from the city of San Francisco. It will require them to get a business license to drive or face legal consequences. Tom vacar joins us live from city hall with reaction from drivers and riders. Tom. Reporter indeed. As the city continues to lose money from its diminishing cab business, the Ride Sharing Companies have presented tax collectors with a new source of pop tential money, and theyre seizing it. San franciscos treasurer sent out 37,000 letters today to uber and lyft drivers. The letter says if they drive in the city seven or more days in any year, they have to get a city business license for a 91 fee. And the fee is retroactive to previous years as well. I dont think thats fair, because not all drivers drive full time. Some drive a couple of days a week, some drive one day a year, only on new years night. Reporter the city says state law allows it to assess the fee because uber and lyft are headquartered in San Francisco. If all cities require that, then thats not going to be fair. Its going to be a lot of money. Reporter the city says only it can assess this business fee. But some worry that the bay areas 100 other cities could figure out some creative fees as well. It kind of undermines the value of being a lyft or uber driver in the city which is kind of rung your own shop and getting a chance to do your thing and make money for yourself. Reporter Ride Sharing Companies pretty much eliminated the citys long, chronic cab shortage. Its made transit so much more accessible. The city of San Francisco should realize how much these two companies especially have done for the city. Reporter the city stands to gain nearly 3. 5 million a year and expand its control over the disruptive industry that revolutionized transportation. It looks like theyre doing the same thing that they did to the cab industry. The way that the taxi industry has been bastardized, everybody had their hands in their pockets. I am just doing this and it makes me feel like a really nice person. Reporter his mother says whenever a homeless person approaches them for money, he cant say no. I will say, oh, im sorry, i dont have any money. Conor will tell me, mom, i know you have a dollar. Reporter perhaps it is because his father is homeless. They havent spoken in more than a year. I want to help others so maybe they dont end up like him. I think deep down maybe part of him fells like if he helps a homeless person, somewhere down the line might be helping his dad. Reporter conors birthday isnt until august but he already knows what he wants to do. It doesnt involve going chuck e cheese. He and his friends want to spend the day helping the homeless. We would give them a kit and either the sapped witch or a bigger and hand them a water. Reporter he set up a go fund me site to pay for the food and toiletries. Its what he does, who he is. Hopefully people seeing me doing this probably pay it forward and just to try and help people with hunger. Reporter do you see a lot of other nineyearolds here . I havent ever seen one.
