Problem. By the end of this year bart plans to have its first 10 new cairns systems. By the end of 2017 at least 60 new cars in service. And the end of 20 1rb8gs at least 230 new cairns service. The end of 2019, 420 new cairns service. And by the end of 2020 at least 610 of its new cashes service with the remaining 165 cars to be delivered in 2021. That will get bart to 775 new cars in total. Bart hopes, depending on funding to add 306 more in the following years. Five years to put in new cars . Honestly, im going to have to buy me like at least two or three cars to drive on the freeway. This cant be. Five years . Im going to start taking the ferry. Reporter do you think these cars can make it for the next five years . About 25 of them. Probably a little bit more than that. But its going to be a lot of maintenance. Reporter bart is ramping up will be fazed out. One benefit, as older cars are taken out of service that will create a huge pool of Replacement Parts for the ones to continue to serve. But now comes a potentially serious problem with the train builder. International train and Aerospace Giant bombardier. The canadian globe and mail reports that bombardier is asking the canadian government for a billion dollar plus bailout. Its seven years behind on deliveries to the new york mta costing that system an extra 50 million to maintain the older cars. Its Train Division was replaced for failure to deliver london a half billion dollar train control system on time and budget. Its Aircraft Division is in serious financial trouble. We were unable to reach bombardier for comment or clarification, but the bart car delivery schedule seems to be worrisome at best. Its a bit disappointing. I think the bay area prides itself on being cutting owning and fast moving and forward thinking. I would like to see that reflected in our public transport. We do know that this company does have its problems, and the question is what assurances have bart gotten from these people to make sure that the schedule is maintained. I tried to talk to bart about that today but theyre so busy with this other business with the track problems and the disabled railcars they were unable to talk to us but im pretty sure tomorrow well be hearing what theyve heard from bombardier. It will be very interesting to see what safeguards they have in place. Tom vacar, thank you. A scary accident today for a driver near guerneville after a falling bolder crashed into his car. Firefighters say the man was on a highway when a huge rock fell 40 feet. The impact caused the driver to lose control and crashed into a tree. It went this the passenger side window and hit him in the shoulder. That caused him to lose control. It was a good size rock, and it was a solid rock. There wasnt any mud to the. Very fortunate. It went right through the passenger side window. Just remarkable. Firefighters say incredibly the driver only suffered a minor shoulder injury Sonoma County got hit with heavy rains. Berkeley Police Officers and firefighters visited dublin, ireland last week where they were honored for their handling of last junes deadly balcony collapse in berkeley. We first brought you the story of 16yearold ramon last friday night. The san jose teen has a rare genetic disorder similar to cerebral palsy. Its affected his ability to walk, talk, and move. His family says that bike gave him a sense vin dependens. Variety Childrens Charity which had the 6,000 bike built especially for ramon says it is now raising money to have another one built. The charity says its also going to help the family find a more secure place to store the bike. Remember that little pig that made headlines after she got loose and ran wild near dolores park in San Francisco . She has now found a new home. That is janice, the pig. Shes been adopted by an animal sanctuary. Shes so cute. Its Sonoma County reptile. Little tail wagging. San francisco animal care and control had been housing the pig and today gave her a send off party. A francis can friar who was nearby was among those who said goodbye today. There were 187 injury accidents last year as compared to 136 in 2013, and just 126 back in 2011. In fact, 2015 was the most dangerous year they have recorded in the last 15. So there is an increase in the injury clightsz for 2015, and that is the highest since 1999. So its definitely pause for that before thinking about it and trying to figure out how we will add ju. Dan sakai was probably one of the more intelligent people ive ever met. I know that they carry these types of scars with them knowing every day their job is incredibly dangerous, knowing that theyve lost loved ones in the line of duty, and that thats why we all rededicated ourselves on this day every year to creating more safety for everyone. Reporter seven years after that dark day, evan frazier has advice for todays officers. Find out about each individual officer, or just find out about the tactics that we improved on, so that no matter what, even if the same scenario played itself out again, the sail result doesnt happen. Honoring the men was what today was about but perhaps the best way to honor them is become a Better Police department. You can see from the way that woman spoke the emotions are still fresh. In the years since this happened how has the department changed . I talked tolu tenant Arturo Bautista who was there that day. Heres what he said. A lot of things have changed. A lot of policies, a lot of procedures, how we approach those type of situations. Really just changed the whole fabric of our swat and Negotiation Team as well. There was a lot of new training that came out of it that we do every year actually. And he added that all these changes have made the Department Stronger and better and made all the officers safer. You know what i remember from that day, i drove by the next day and there was a poster board that was on the apartment where two of the officers were killed when they went in to get lovelle mixon, and someone had written, i admire you for having the courage to take a life. I couldnt understand that, how someone could write that right after this man shot and killed four Police Officers. And there was actually quite a bit of that in parts of oakland in the days afterwards. And it was very controversial and upset a lot of people in the police community. I just kept staring at it. I just was dumbfounded. John, thank you. New at 5 00 tonight a Santa Clara Police officer appeared in court today on charges of misdemeanor indecent exposure. He is accused of exposing himself to his girlfriends coworker. Jury selection is set to start tomorrow. The officer has been on paid administrative leave since he was arrested last july. The city of pacifica is seeking to uphold a mandatory Evacuation Order for people who live in an apartment that is sitting right on the edge of a crumbling cliff. The units are in a yellow tagged building adjacent to the apartments at 320 esplanade that were demolished last week. The city forced the People Living there to evacuate because theres fear the eroding cliff could take down the building. A handful of residents are attempting to save the structure and have appealed the citys decision. Tomorrow city leaders will ask a Safety Commission to uphold the Evacuation Order. They will also release the results of an independent analysis showing the erosion presents a clear danger to residents. The news had been leaked weeks in advance but that didnt stop the fanfare or the speculation surrounding apples new product unveiling. An intense search is underway in belgium for an accused act coul place of the alleged mastermind of the paris attacks. Authorities say the 24yearold man traveled with salah abdeslam, the man accused of planning the Mass Shootings in paris which killed 130 people. Investigators say the associate traveled to hungary with abdeslam and was using a false name. His nationality was not disclosed but investigators say he traveled to syria in 2013. A paris cafe which was the scene of one of those shootings reopened today. It is the last of the bars and restaurants targeted by terrorists to reopen. 20 people were killed there back on november 13th. The cafe reopened with artwork on the walls honoring the victims. He tweeted out, just setting up my twitter. Twitter fast became one of the internets best known companies but in recent years its growth has slowed and its stock price has dropped. The cliff hotel in San Francisco is stirring up buzz. The hotel is celebrating the arrival of spring with the debut of a new rooftop bee sanctuary. These white boxes are home to some 800,000 bees. Each hive is expected to produce up to 70 pounds of honey by the summer. It will be used in some of the menu items at the hotel. Skiers and snowboarders were busy enjoying todays fresh new snow. Very windy, very cold. But a lot of fresh powder. Reporter not too many people on the slopes. Theres like no lines up here. Reporter no lines, no delays, just great conditions. Theyre really good. Theyre like powdery. When you go down the hills, theyre nice and steep. So some good runs. Yeah. Good runs on a good base. Were just about to hit 500 inches this year. So were joining the 500 club. Officially thats a big year in tahoe as compared to last year about 100 inches. Good spring skiing for everybody. When you think about what it was like last year and you look at it now remember the last snowpack survey this there was absolutely no snow. Hes going out there to do the snowpack, and theres nothing. We move in close here towards milpitas. Youve got rain in fremont and hayward. Pleasanton and livermore. This is right on the afternoon commute. So you know what that means. Waiting for folks out there near the sunol grade. In the rain, the rainfall rates are coming up on a quarter inch an hour in some places so thats windshield wipers. Wipers are on full. Theyre on the fast mode. So we come in close. This is right now. Youre seeing showers as they occur. San jose, showers, santa claire remarks out by 82.
