Several people were attacked at a stone ridge Shopping Mall in pleasanton and the suspects have been linked to a carjacking. Ktvu john sasaki at the Police Headquarters with the latest on this investigation. Julie, these were violent crimes, two armed robberies where the victim was assaulted and a carjacking at gunpoint. Reporter the mall in pleasanton is where many well to do people shop. There were attacks and my daughter ran away because she saw a gun. This man says his daughter was with a 17yearold girl knocked to the ground and punched in the face and robbed by three young men near the pfchang on saturday night. My daughter was attacked and she ran to the mall, not even a Straight Line but zig zags so no one would shoot me. The girl sur survived as did the 63yearold woman. They were violent. Reporter the robbers carjacked someone at the bart station. The description of the suspects matched our case an hour prior. In looking at Surveillance Video we saw that honda pilot used in our robbery was seen during the carjacking. On monday, Oakland Police saw the car in the second robbery and pulled it over and arrested two of the suspects. They had a rifle, a long gun and that was determined to be an air soft rifle that was recovered. Despite the arrests of the two suspects, each is 17 years old stone ridge mall may never look the same to the victims or their families. Firefighters say a group of monks left from one hundred to a thousand candles unattended before going to sleep at the wood frame temple on east 10th street on 52nd avenue. Ktvu Heather Holmes obtained numbers that show gun seizures have continued to go up over the past five years and talked with the captain of the bay view station that recovered the most weapons in 2015. In response the Health Department has declared the encampment a health hazard. Mayor lee is hoping they will head to the shelter at pier 80 that opened earlier this month. We took a tour and found it empty, a large space with sleeping mat on the floor. It can accommodate 150 people but we are told only about 20 people are sleeping there on any given night. Mayor lee says the facility is part of the plan to get 8000 Homeless People off of the street and into permanent housing in the next four years. Does that end homelessness, no it doesnt but for those 8000 people. Thats why i am here. Thats the reason i am here to get off of the streets and into permanent housing wherever that may be. The pier 80 shelter that is about 3 miles south of the encampment was initially opened during the el nino storms. The city is trying to upgreat the facilitiy plumbing and showers. The residents of the Winchester Ranch Mobile Home Park in their 80s and 90s, a constant fear that the land beneath their home may be sold. It take over your life. It does. It does. Two dozen students walked out of class. They were carrying signs that said black minds matter and took their protests to city hall. They say the school fosters racist environment. On february 5th. The demonstrators out say apple is doing the right thing by resisting. That is because the case of of the San Bernardino shooter would set a a precedent. The move is applauded by many people in the tech industry. I dont think requiring back doors to encryption is going to be effective way to increase security or the right thing to do or just the direction the world is going in. The courts will rule and it will be good to have that precedent. I think the people want the government to act on their behalf and they feel the safeguards are there. This is a monumental issue. There are far more people here. A number of press people talking to them and here to say that apple is right and we asked you and demanded from you and the other phone companies that we have phones safe and secure and uncrackable. And thats exactly what was delivered. In fact apple says it never built a back door in these things and the way to get in and they dont want to build a back door now. People are concerned about this because they are concerned about the fact that the government changes all the time. In fact here is what some folks had to say about it. I think what concerns me is the government has a track record of not being trustworthy with the information that they have had in the past. I mean we know this. We have seen this. So why are we willingly giving them more. Thats my concern. I dont trust the government and i think thats why people are out. There is the marriage of the corporate powers at be with the government.
