Reporter the white house said the 90 minute meeting mainly focused on the transition and went that are then both sides expected. The meeting was a little less awkward than some might have expected. From the white house onto capitol hill as mr. Trump and mike pence met with top republicans, how paul ryan is showing them exactly where he will be sworn into office in just 71 days. Mr. Trump also meeting with Senate Majority leader Mitch Mcconnell at the Trump Administration will also need to work with democrats. Senator. Elizabeth warren was strong words for the next president. We will stand up to bigotry, no compromises ever. Reporter president elect trump is receiving Intelligence Briefings and when he is sworn in he will be responsible for one of the most complex governments in the world with 4 million employees and 4 trillion in a deficit of a budget. In washington, lorin blanchard, fox news. His victory has spurred protests all around the nation and thousands of High School Students took the streets of San Francisco and ktvu has Tara Moriarty who joins us live. Reporter we actually just wrapped up a live shot just around 10 am this morning around the corner from here when many student protesters process in their tracks and they marched on Market Street and headed out to fisherman warps and then looped back to city hall all with a very strong message. We reject our president elect. Reporter around 9 am this morning dozens of High School Students from public and private high schools walked out of class and marched downtown, for some it was a threemile trek just to get here and they chanted and waved antitrump slogans as they made their way down market and then they went to Fishermans Wharf and ghirardelli square, some splintered off but many took a turn and ended up back here. We felt passionate about the sauce tesh subject because we are not subject is we are not allowed to vote when its a chance to say where we stand. Theres all of these things that happened and they showed that there was a lot outside against bernie sanders. Reporter some students felt the Democratic Party should not have chosen clinton and others say they supported her and were shocked that trump when the election. All in all, things were peaceful today and police said that they were basically just here to facilitate the students right to free speech and the barricades are still up here at city hall in case more protesters show up, for now it is common theres a small group out here but theyve remained pretty quiet over the past hour or so, back to you. Thank you. We go across the bay in oakland where protesters gathering for a second day, police and businesses are preparing for what they expect to be a large crowd that could have splinter groups ready to pause cause damage and instigate fights, ktvu is live in oakland were protesting and or plan to start in the next hour. Things can get confusing as their dueling protests going on and we learned about the dakota excise pipeline protest one block over at wells fargo and we just saw a large group of students read displacing continue marching down on broadway, we believe that they were the students that were out here earlier but a bigger group now. Around 5 pm we are expected to see a bigger crowd to protest donald trump selection and Oakland Police say that violent splinter groups are using these large crowds to hide and then breaking way to vandalize businesses start battles with police. Last may 20 businesses in downtown oakland had their windows smashed or spray painted with graffiti and 3 officers were hurt. Police say the crowd of 7000 people had smaller groups of feynman people hiding inside the massive marchers. These people threw rocks, bottles, and maybe some molotov cocktails and went on to caused images to Small Businesses and nonprofits that supported the protesters. Oakland police are saying the Peaceful Protesters even tried to stop these violent people. We did see the majority of people say no, do not break the window, no, do not like that on fire, thats not do this to the businesses. There was a divide in the group. Reporter Police Arrested 30 people and cited 11. Of the 30 people arrested only 12 actually live in oakland and some of the arrested dont even live in the bay area and some are from out of state. We do note that the 30 people were processed this morning and many of them have left it Police Department and posted bail, the police will try and track these people to find out where exactly they are coming from and what ties they might have to any criminal organizations. It will be pretty interesting to see if they will be back out here tonight. Reporter have in fact been charged and if so what are the charges . Reporter we are told they have a large arrest packet that will be made public next week and they say itll probably be around tuesday or wednesday that this will be released and it will list the names of these people and show where they are coming from and what possible charges in these charges can range from vandalism to assault on officers. Reporter lets hope they follow the city leader plea and remain peaceful. Thank you. A day of action for students across the bay area from napa to san jose and along the peninsula hundreds of High School Students walked out of classes and took a political stand this morning and this afternoon, sky fox was over hayward and 100 students marched to the city along east avenue and at one point they were blocking traffic but there is no word of any significant disruptions. Students are organizing walkouts on social media and some were just marching around, others had specific destinations like local city halls and in walnut creek dozens of students from muslim is high school left class and walked through the downtown there over to city hall in walnut creek, they were chanting love trump and expressing anger over what they had seen from donald trump concerning minorities and women, these are High School Students and you can see in the video that quite a few of them were enjoying the opportunity to cut class and jump in front of the cameras. We are monitoring the major protests around the midshipman bay area and we will have updates throughout the night and online on ktvu. Com. The comments that he makes scares a lot of friends. Trump wins and it prompts questions for undocumented immigrants and the steps taken out of the Area High School to address the concerns. Next we talk to a bay area from surrogate and what he trump president means for the country. A few high clouds paying the bay area of visit and another warm day, changes for your friday and eventually we could be talking about some scattered showers. We will update the forecast coming up after the break. We have heard a lot of disappointment from voters and clinton surrogates since the election but what about trump supporters, we have been backing tesh we have karen who has been Backing Trump for a while, were you surprised at the results . No, i was not surprised at all, our intelligence told us that donald trump was going to win in the campaign knew that the poles had it wrong and the American People were at the end of the day going to choose donald trump is the next president of the united states. Are you surprised at some of the reaction that we are seeing around the country and here in the bay area . No, i am not, i have watched some of the protest on the news lately and i see that they are a lot of Young Students who are just for the first time becoming involved or interested in the political process here in the country and many of them being under age, under 18 if you will, they have a right to protest and this is their way to get their message out. Their message is being heard and if this is the way they feel is best for them then its what it is and they have a right to do so as long as it is not violent. What do you tell people of color that come up to you and say why do you back donald trump . I simply have conversations with them and i explain why i back donald trump, number one, i am a republican so i believe in the republican platform and the values of the republican party. I was very excited about mr. Trump from the moment she announced. Our government is broken and it has been broken for years and the fact that mr. Trump is a businessman and a successful businessman and a non politician i truly felt from day one that that is what our country needs, it has been broken and it has been broken on both sides so we need someone to come in and be able to get things done across party lines and after mr. Trump and president. Obamas meeting this morning i am confident that america chose the right person for the job. He is an outsider and a businessman with no political experience, how much political experience does he need to surround himself with in your estimation when building a cabinet in the next weeks to come . He is a very smart man and he has been surrounding himself with the right people, Rudy Giuliani and chris christie, people both inside politics politics and outside politics, i think he will come up with a great mix of people with political experience and people who are more in touch with their communities and can offer something new to the white house. What you say to people that are fearful he will change things in such a drastic way that it will change basically the way we look at the us with potentially a wall and deporting people and other things that he has talked about during the process, do you think he will drift towards the center now that he sits in the white house . No, i think he will stick to the promises that he made during his campaign because after all, it is the American People that voted for him based on his promises. I would expect him to stick to that. Thank you for coming in. Thanks for having me. Cities across the state could use billions in federal aid and trump pledged to take away federal funding from sanctuary cities, san jose and oakland are all sanctuary city so they do not enforce immigration law, it in california are more than 400 million would be at risk and san jose mayor sam mccarter says he will not overreact to what trump says he intends to do. I stand with Police Chiefs throughout the country and most major Police Chiefs say it is not good for the community, it makes us less safe to have local Law Enforcement involved in immigration. Its unclear how much they could lose but they are locarno says that san jose is independent and does not depend much on federal money. Bay area schools with large latino population is trying to help students that are fearful of what a trump printed and see means to them, jeanine dela vega have visited the school and has more. How many of you guys know people that need healing in your family reporter inside this high school there is a feeling of excited he, nearly all 300 students are minorities, primarily of mexican and latino descent. They say they fear what the future will be like with them with donald trump as president. A lot of my family including myself is undocumented and it is a reality here that we see a lot, the comments that he makes scares a lot of my friends. Reporter the principal decided to bring an father john peddie go to hold a healing circle and they have witnessed some students crying and depressed over being separated from their families. A lot of the hateful rhetoric that was shared by trump during the campaign hit them very hard. Now many of them believe that more than half of americans feel that way about them as well. Breathe in, breathe out. Reporter father john tried to calm their nerves and process how to move forward. They say that how students are feeling can affect how they do in class and how they feel about themselves. Each one received a blessing. We want to convey to students that they can make a difference and they are important and valued and loved and no one can take that away from them. Reporter the message today is you are not alone, you matter and that students can standard considered staging a walkout but instead they reflected on how to empower themselves, reporting from san jose, ktvu fox 2 news. A gorgeous day around the bay area today and marcus and the weather center, what can we expect . Walking around its hard to believe it is november and temperatures are soaring with a lot of 70s in a few neighborhoods close to 80 and a bit cooler friday, this is a live camera and beautiful light youre looking out towards the bay. A bit of an onshore breeze at 10 to 15 mph and there is the change, the frontal system is developing so this is way out there and it could bring rainfall and it is 700 miles to the north and west. Right now just some scattered high clouds pay us a visit and we had some patchy fog this morning and right now, current numbers 81 degrees in napa, santa rosa 76, san jose 74 and San Francisco very nice 72 degrees. This is another live camera and looking out toward San Francisco in the distance some of these high clouds have been moving in throughout the day and we will have more high clouds moving in tomorrow in advance of the next frontal system. For tomorrow morning it is already friday out there and amateurs will be in the mid50s and into the afternoon hours by lunchtime increasing clouds and 65. Tomorrow will be cooler across the entire bay area and by 4 pm partly to mostly cloudy skies and San Francisco will be in the upper 60s. It was one of the most contentious races in the bay area and after all of the campaigning that saw lots of mud slinging, ro khanna emerge victorious and he is here to talk about his plans going forward. A student at San Jose State University believes that follow from tuesdays election may have provoked an attack against her. A sophomore there said in a male attacker grabbed her headscarf known as a heat job and tried to pull it off. I want to know why he did this and i want to extend him what this headscarf means to me. Im just trying to see where he is coming from and find a resolution between us. 19 yearold ezra alton said the assault happened wednesday afternoon in the third floor of the campus west garage. She believes it is because donald trump one at the white house. He was wearing khaki pants and a dark colored hoodie and we sat down with her and we will have more of the interview coming up in the next hour at 5 pm. Donald trump says he will focus on making tomorrow better the day before and we spoke with Robert Mcdonald about the state of the department and their anticipation of donald trump in the white house. Lets start with the fact that you have been at the head of the va for a little over 2 years and you inherited a complete mess, what is the situation now . First of all i want to wish you a happy veterans day, we have been working hard over the last 2 years to improve care for veterans, we are doing something called the meiji a transformation, transforming the way we work and putting the veterans at the center of everything we do. Relative to medical care weve had more appointments this year than last year and we have 1. 2 million more veterans getting their health care from the va than we had in 2009. How have we done this . We added more space, 4 million more feet of space and more doctors over 1200 more doctors and 2300 new nurses. We have expanded clinic hours on the evenings and weekends. We are making more Space Available and gives them more care than they deserve. President elect trump says that veterans are a priority, what you need from washington and congress and the white house . The most important thing i need is legislation and in the president s 2017 budget, in order to keep the transformation going we submitted 100 new proposals of which 40 were new this year and there are about two dozen that we absolutely need. You are a guy that came from the private sector, why not privatize this and wouldnt it be more costeffective . I was a ceo and chairman of Procter Gamble prior to coming to the va and when i went through my Senate Confirmation i got asked that question by a couple of senators, why dont we just privatizing gives veterans vouchers . I studied that and i came to the conclusion that not only do the veterans need the va but americans need the va. Secondly, training we train about 70 of the doctors in the country and we are the largest employer of nurses. Third is the clinical work and this is the clinical work that our doctors and residents of nurses do with our veterans and veterans are the best patients in the world. We wonder what will happen to the American Medical System without the nobel prizes or the oscar awards are the training of the doctors. That is why i think the va is essential, not just for veterans but also for american medicine in the american public. Good conversation and there is a lot of work to do but they have made a lot of progress over the last few years. Thanks ted. A Sports Personality is completely done with Colin Kaepernick, what the 49ers quarterback did or did not do that lead in the espn analysts to say that hed prefer to never see kaepernick again. Parents of a high school say their daughter was targeted and assaulted because she is a donald trump supporter, we will speak with the students father coming up after the break. Afoot and lighthearted i take to the open road. Healthy, free, the world before me, the long brown path before me leading wherever i choose. The east and the west are mine. The north and the south are mine. All seems beautiful to me. You are looking at a vicious fight recently at a bay Area High School in the victims family said this attack happened because she posted her support for donald trump on social media. The attack happened at Woodside High School in woodside and it happened yesterday, the day after the election. Joining me now on the phone is the girls father and thank you for taking the time to talk to me. I understand that your daughter posted the night of the election that she hoped donald trump wins, what role do you believe her post in her public support for trump played in the incident . I really do not know what role, i think the role is that she really tried her best to keep it under raps to be honest and we all did as a family. We do not post on social media, we do not do things to issue or brand our support for anyone but she was very happy as we were with the results of the election and prior to the election ending she actually posted that post on instagram and someone saw him posted a derogatory remark about hispanics which we are part hispanic and then this is what happened. When you say keep it under raps she was afraid of publicly supporting donald trump . Oh yes, there were a lot of people out there that were. Even though we were supporting him the whole time, it is not like something we were out there advertising are putting on social media or voicing our opinions about. I think this is a case where there was just a good kid in a bad situation and unfortunately she got beaten up pretty bad and had to go to the hospital in the er and it is just this terrible thing it makes my wife and i said. How is she doing now . She is doing better, she is pretty sick tests shaking she is pretty shaken up and we are hopeful this will not have any longterm ramifications on her and her ability to voice her opinion or do things that she feels is right, she is a great kid a 4. 0 student and an athlete at this high school and unfortunately the high schools handling it very poorly with us and we do not know if she will be able to go back and attend the high school which is a shame. You said to me that you were afraid for her to go back there and we are afraid, they have had some protests and i do not know if it is writing, but they have had some harsh protests against her today and we are scared for her wellbeing obviously. I just want to clarify something because you said earlier that someone made a comment in regards to what your daughter had posted that was disparaging to hispanics that you say your daughter never made those remarks . She may none of those remarks whatsoever. Reporter was she attacked because of her political beliefs . Absolutely. How does that make you feel as a father . It makes me sick to my stomach that someone cannot voice their opinion publicly about who they like or dislike or what views they have worldviews they do not have. It is really a shame and it is something i am not very proud of at this moment. I did not mean to cut you off, go ahead. I am through. Thank you. I know it has not been an easy time for your family and you mentioned to me that your family has received threats but thank you for taking the time and all the best to your daughter in her recovery. Thank you very much heather. Quite emotional for the family. It is and it just goes to show that emotions are running so high following the election. One of espns outspoken analyst has been outspoken about Colin Kaepernick but not because of what he is doing on the field. This has to do with someone who has harsh words for kaepernick for not getting out to the polls and voting, our sports director is here now with a closer look at exactly what was said. You are talking about Stephen A Smith from espn and off the top we should say that Stephen A Smith is a popular hyperbolic, extremely loquacious talkshow host who gets paid to really rile people up. He stirs the pot with everything possible. He did strike a chord with a lot of people. A lot of people are chiming in and he does have some credibility. He has been involved in the sports scene for a long time and a myriad of sports and he is a respected columnists as well and has been on espn for years. That being said you can wait out where you feel about him and this is emotional. Before we begin the discussion and all that has happened since Colin Kaepernick took a knee and refused to stand at all prior and he brought a lot of attention to himself and from then he has perpetuated this with different talks to the media about where his social stance is, lets start with Stephen A Smith talking of Colin Kaepernick so we have a foundation. As far as im concerned Colin Kaepernick is irrelevant and i dont want to see him or talk to him or hear anything he has to say about our nation or the issues that we have or Racial Injustice, he comes off as a flaming hypocrite and as far as im concerned im not interested in anything he has to say and quite frankly i hope he goes away, he is lucky to be in the league. After all the noise that you made and you offended our military service men and women in you pointed out how to bring attention to Racial Injustice and beyond in this country, to turn around and not even take your behind to the polls to vote for a particular candidate, that is shameful, absolutely shameful. Him of all people exiled because of the position he took in the attention he brought to the issue, the fact that you do not even have the decency to go to the poll and activate yourself in this election as our president said is a damn shame. Okay. He is never a guide to mince words but at the very start of that you asked me out here to express my opinion and my opinion is i agree with a milder version of what he said in that if you are going to protest and you are going to go out on the street and take a stance, at the very least you have to as Colin Kaepernick said, he loves this country, you have to vote or you have to stay quiet. I think that would guess that is what has rile people up, he has taken this huge verbal and public stands that he loves the country, but he is not happy with what is going on in the country and i have to say, like i said, unplugged i agree. We have not heard anything from kaepernick in response. I was going to say that is the lousy thing about this because it will just continue, the game sunday against arizona, the first thing, they will not ask him why heath road interceptions, they will talk about this and what he thinks of Stephen A Smith and it will just go on and on, that is something that he has to take responsibility for and it comes with the territory. Thanks mark. Coming up after the break we will go and speak with ro khanna after his victory against my conduct in the congressional race in Silicon Valley in tuesdays election. Another warm day across the bay area but a few changes for friday and eventually we talk about some showers that could affect the weekend forecast and we will talk more about that after the break. It was one of the most closely watched races in the bay area, that title for the congressional seat representing Silicon Valley and ro khanna unseated my conduct and ro khanna joins me like that, congratulations. Thanks heather and thanks for having me on. Why do you think it worked this time . People got to know me better and people really have to trust you to send you to congress and they got to know who i was and what i stood for. Are you ready for this meaning it is such a divisive climate right now, you will head to washington when there are people protesting the president elect. It is a tough time and i saw your earlier segment about someone getting threatened because of the Facebook Post and we just really need to lower the temperature and learn to come together and as Hillary Clinton said we need to keep an open mind, we have elections in the elections are over and now we need to find common ground, one area i was excited about was Infrastructure Spending and if the president does propose increased spending that nancy pelosi has called for and others then we should find a way to make it work. You represent one of the wealthiest areas in the country and also democratic, how do you balance that and what priorities do you take to washington . The idea that technology is changing work and job test jobs are being outsourced and people are upset about it, what we have to do is think how do we educate people for these new jobs . We need to make college more affordable and we need better Career Education we need to figure out how to incentivize manufacturing and this needs to be the solution notches for this region but the country. That is a tough balance because one thing you campaigned on his innovation but on the flipside a lot of people see this as a job killer. You are right, it is a tough challenge and we need innovation to be productive and competitive and yet machines are taking jobs, automation is taking jobs and we need a balance, we need the country to cry out and say these jobs are not in pennsylvania or michigan or ohio and Silicon Valley needs to encarta about creating jobs for the middle class given productivity and i believe that people in the valley are thinking about this. On a personal level this campaign got nasty, it was a bitter race, have you put this behind you and are you focused on the work ahead . It seems like this could be difficult. Congressman honda was exceedingly gracious and he called me yesterday and ive always said that i admire and respect his career in public service. People often talk an abstract that i believe it starts at home with what we can do locally and both congressman honda and i are committed to unifying our community as an example of what we need to do to bring the country together. For those at home watching thinking here we go, 4 more years of gridlock what do you say . I dont think the country will put up with it, people expect me to get something done and they are saying he better deliver we are taking a chance with him and a lot of people in congress will have the same expectation and if 4 years from now they find more gridlock they will find someone else to run in the American People have had enough, they want things to get done. Thank you so much for being here. Lets turn it over to our meteorologist marc tamayo and a lovely day out there, i had to reach into my summer wardrobe for today. It is hard to believe weatherwise and its soaring backup to the 70s and as we had to friday it is beautiful heading out towards the Trans American pyramid and if you high clouds out there you can expect some high clouds. This guy, this frontal band purging the shoreline will generate some rainfall and maybe a few sprinkles or light showers in the north bay. Right now some scattered high clouds showing up on the satellite and we will check in on the current numbers and look at all the 70s out towards livermore and walnut creek 71 and santa rosa 76 degrees and San Francisco a pleasant 70. Overnight lows we will help partly cloudy skies in some fog will return and temperatures will be in the mid40s to lower 50s and we will call it a mild friday and most areas tomorrow will be a little cooler than today. We will begin to shave off a few degrees as we head to the forecast for tomorrow. All because this next system approaching the shoreline and we will call this partly to mostly cloudy skies and the front will be up to the north but then it does move to the south by saturday and we will have a chance for showers saturday morning targeting the north bay and temperatures will be in the 60s. Tomorrow we will have areas of fog and it almost looks like a summer weather pattern and then the afternoon hours we will have increasing high clouds for veterans day with partly to mostly cloudy skies and then for saturday morning, look at what happens, the system falls apart but there could be enough moisture to generate a sprinkle or light shower saturday morning and then saturday afternoon skies become partly cloudy throughout the day. Temperatures will have lots of 70s and we begin to cool off a little bit but still warm. Santa rosa 71 and right around the room you will find mid70s out towards livermore and saratoga 74 as well and the High Surf Advisory that i should mention has expired but we do have sizable waves offshore to be extra careful if you are visiting the coast. Lookahead, the fiveday forecasts and temperatures will cool off into saturday and that means lower 70s out there and a chance of a shower and a few sprinkles and partly sunny skies for send in money and sunday and monday and it will be hard to do with the timing right now but i will say that we always talk about the storm door and later in the month we will have a big swing in rainfall so hold on to this. Thanks. Julie joins us now with some stories we are working on for ktvu news at 5 pm.
