Of the fire fight throughout the day. Tom joins us live with the latest. Reporter i just want to show you a few things of what the firefighters are competing with. You see firefighters putting out hot spots. The reason is because they dont want to go away and have a fire start again. This is a meticulous job being done hundreds of places. The other danger is if you look over there, you will see a house in tact. The problem with that is that is fuel along with all of the other things that have been burned. Should the winds change, have a real big gusting situation, you can get another fire started, it can come right back into town and finish off the rest of this town. Despite of all that, here is pacific gas and electric. Theres a Cable Company as well trying to put these phone poles and wires back up so when people do return to the few home that is are around and as people try to rebuild, there will be power and utilities to do something about it. The problem with letting people back in right now is theres really nothing for them to come back to. If they do have a house, its not going to have power. Its probably not going to have water. That is the situation on the ground now. As the winds pick up, that fire thats up in the hills can throw with winds embers as far as a mile. They could come back and reignite this town. Ktvu fox 2 news. A big part of this story is the e vac youies people who have no idea what they will come home to if anything. Earlier i had a chance to talk to crystal and tom or matt. They left their home in about 5 minutes. They have been told by a friend they have lost everything. We dont know anything for sure. Theyre not letting anybody in. Some kids said they walked back in there last night they couldnt see, but they said the whole row of houses where hour house was is gone. Were hoping something can be salvaged. Reporter how much time did you have before you had to evacuate . 5 minutes. Reporter what did you take . Nothing. We got the m3 out. We got the honda out, the dogs, the child. Reporter what didnt you get . We didnt get a 79 corvette. A my dads truck. My dads passed away. His f150 is sit thanksgiving that i just got registered after 6 years. So its sentimental. Reporter photos and things like that . 400 pictures of our daughter from 0 to 2. It was an obsession. And theyre all gone. Pictures of his dad and uncle that are passed away. All my relatives, pictures from the 18 hundreds. Its just yeah. Its all gone. 52inch flat screen tvs. Brandnew sofa. Brandnew washer and dryer. Reporter did you have renters insurance . No. And no home owners insurance. Nothing. But we have to look at the upside of this. Its rebuildable. Everything is fine. As long as the lives werent lost. Reporter and that is the perspective that a lot of people do have. Yes, they may have lost material things, but at this point no significant injuries or lives have been lost due to this fire. A clear upside. One of the other factors in this, animals. People have left animals in the areas where it has been burned out. Lee has more on that part of the story. Reporter we are standing at this gas station across the street from downtown. This is a spot that many of the evacuated people have ended up. There is no electricity here. This is no bathroom here but this is the closest they can get to the properties. They have a clear shot looking at the hills and the activity there. They see the planes going over the hills dumping water. Their homes are underneath those hills that are on fire. Some people know what is going on with their properties. However jim knows its all gone. He stayed until flames came up to his neighborhood. He couldnt get to his 18 year old horse dakota. He had no choice but to kick out the fence and leave her behind. This morning while he was sitting in this gas station parking lot, he found out dakota is alive. Someone posted a picture of her at his home. The house is on fire. She is surrounded by ashes and jim just wants to get in this and get her back. The house and the brandnew garage burnt to the ground. And she was just right off from it and it was pretty clear where she was. So she lived. Were just hoping to get her back now. If animal control comes, we can get her. Reporter now jim was told she is uninjured but isnt sure if she will be able to leave his property. She wasnt leaving when the fire was there. Hes hoping he will be able to get in there with animal control and get to her. At this point its a waiting game as well. Were seeing a lot of pg e vehicles go in there right now. Highway 29 is closed off. Theyre not letting people back into their neighborhoods. A couple of people have told us theyve snuck in to check on their properties. Their concern is looters. They left with just the clothes on their back. So they feel more comfortable being as close as they can to their properties out here at this gas station with no electricity, though bathrooms. Yesterday we had the same winds and we dont have the fire activity we had yesterday which is good news. Put out hot spots, get our containment numbers out. Reporter when you look at the aerial shots, where is this fire moving . What Population Center . Is it clear lake . Clear lake the lower portion of the clear lake as well as lower lake are threatened. A majority of the fire is off to the northeast. We want to be careful. We want to keep our heads up. When do you think theyll be able to see whats left of their homes . Bear with us. Were been going to the shelters. We realize people do have issues with getting information as far as the internet being down. Were trying to get out there and make sure were faceto face with them. Let them know were here. Were trying to get them back in as soon as possible. Its not just putting the fire out. Theres infrastructure thats down. We have to make sure the trees arent going to come down. Its coming in sort of from the south. I noticed across the lake county area right around clear lake its coming in from the east. I guess the good news here is we are seeing some of the smoke move toward the north and the northeast and away from community. We saw it with live cameras and reporters out there in the live shots.
