Love it. 93, 94, you know were happy because we like it hot. Mike . Love it. It will stick around. The request that you had june 15th, it will be like can you turn it down . Wheres the fog . Wheres the fog . Summer is here almost and with it, the risk of lyme disease, and what you need to do if you feel symptoms and guess who just walked in . Good old Michael Cardoza. Going one on one with you in just a minute. What if there was a paint that made you look at paint differently question everything you know and what you dont know what if its built with better ingredients given super powers and even a secret base to test those powers. The cdc said 300,000 americans are diagnosed with lyme disease every year, carried by ticks that carry the chronic illness and it has gained more attention because of Yolanda Hadid from the real housewives of Beverly Hills who talked about her battle with lyme disease, and i am joined by our chronic illness specialist from the California Center for functional functiontal functional. Okay. I cant even say that. Thank you, and you and your wife, you have a story to tell. You were diagnosed with lyme disease . Thats right, and i wasnt feeling well, and i went to the doctor, and ticks, they are so small, and its not always the bulls eye rash. The bulls eye with the round circle around it, you didnt get that . No. And sometimes, the rash will look like a red blotch or be all over your body, and its hard to know, if the tick was so small that, you got bit. What were your symptoms . My heart started acting strange with arrhythmia and tachycardia, and my joints hurt and it would migrate around and my mind stopped working. I was in graduate school and i was really athletic and smart and all of a sudden, my mind didnt work and heart didnt work and felt like my body doesnt work and doctors couldnt figure it out. And you probably hear this all the time. Right. So what do you do if you hear these symptoms and you think oh, thats me. How can you figure out that you have it . We are not taught a lot in medical school about lyme disease. You have to seek the proper help and ask your doctor, and she also works for the lime organization, and its a comprehensive website, and you know, some of the first tests that are available that most doctors will run might miss it. Its a coin toss. So in that case, you have symptoms and you are not getting a diagnosis and people can see 10plus doctors in many years. And this is a problem in the bay area. Were at risk. Stanford released a study showing that every Bay Area Park where they tested, dragging a flannel flag through the grass, they found ticks and tested them and every one of them in the park had lyme disease in the ticks that they found. What can you do if you are going into a wilderness area . What do you look out for and anything to protect yourselves . Yeah, and thats a great point. We want people to enjoy nature. Its memorial day weekend, and there are common sense things to do. You can wear light clothing and stick to the center of the path and ticks will be poising on themselves on the tips of the grass waiting to hitch a ride and once you are out and come back from your home, change your clothes, put them in the dryer, and tick check yourself and your kids thoroughly, armpits, behind the neck and ears. And showering is a good thing to do when you get home because you can wash off tick that ticks that you may not see. And there is treatment if you diagnosed correctly . Yes, and if its the early phase and you catch it within the first 30 days and you take antibiotics, youre in good shape. If you didnt know you got bit and its longer than 30 days, you need to find someone with the late stage. Be vigilant, Early Detection like in most things is important. And you can wear tick repellent. All right. Thank you so much for both of you coming in. Appreciate it, and we have more information on our website. Thank you so much for coming in. We appreciate it. Its so important. And next up, Hillary Clinton makes a stop in oakland, and well tell you what she talked about and talk live in studios to the restaurant owner. The four on 2 will be right back. The Democratic Candidates for president are going all out in california with 11 days until the june primary. Vermont senator Bernie Sanders held a Campaign Rally in san pedro in Southern California and a new poll from the Public Policy institute shows Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders in a statistical dead heat among likely democratic voters. Sanders said its about taking on the status quo. The only way we make change in america is what millions of people engaged in the political process in a way that we have not previously seen vote. Meantime, a los angeles land smashing giving sanders a boost. Johnnys coffee shop on wilshire unveiled a temporary new name, bernies. The coffee shob has been in movies such as reservoir dogs and the big lebowski. Hillary clinton returned to oakland this morning for a roundtable discussion at the home of chick everyone and waffles in jack london square, meeting with the leaders of the city including mayor libby schaaf and talked about Affordable Housing in areas with rapidly rising prices such as oakland. There are advantages to fixing up neighborhoods and making it attractive and all the rest of it but its a big price to pay if we displace everybody. And she got in a few digs at donald trump saying that he would use the presidency as a bully pulpit and the country doesnt need a bully in the white house. And were joined by the owner of chicken and waffles at jack london square, the ones that hosted the event. Derrick johnson and mayor schaaf, welcome. Thank you. What was it like to have Hillary Clinton come to the restaurant today . I am still a little i feel like im on an adrenaline high. It was a trill. Thrill. It was wonderful. What was she like . Describe her. You hear in the media she not approachable. What was she like . Thats what the hug was about. I reached and she reached and she looks stern on television because she was extremely approachable and relatable and easy to talk to. I tell people all the time if you could just meet her you would get a completely different person. And she comes off completely different in person and she was there to talk serious issues in oakland and creating more businesses ownerred by owner owned by people of color. Mayor, what was your discussion like . He was talking about investing in opportunity and thou relates how it relates to safety and economic development, and it wasnt a set of speeches. It was a conversation and my favorite part, she really wanted to meet your workers and have everyone come out from the kitchen and greeted them and took pictures with every last person there and we really had an engaging talk about how the federal government really needs to listen to the People Like Us who are on the ground in americas cities, dealing with the barriers to opportunity that she wants to breakdown. Derrick, lets talk more. You opened up the restaurant 11 years ago and you hire some people would say no thank you and close the door [laughter] just about everybody. Tell us what kind of workers you hire and tell us why. Well, the Restaurant Business is demanding. You need employees. You need people, and i found those previously incarcerated, that if somebody gives them a chance, and we do, they are loyal. There are issues, of course, with that population but the fact that someone has given them the opportunity to become loyal employees, why not . I mean f if you dont employ the people getting out of prison that were supposed to rehabilitate, they just go back to prison. So it didnt it happened organically. As i mentioned earlier, i needed employees and one guy said i can call the house and i didnt know the house was a halfway house. I was like okay. We need workers. We have a line at the door and nobody in the kitchen, and thats how it happened and thats how i met kevin grant and he was wonderful and came in and helped with the training and getting everybody together and just kept going. And so we hire anybody. You give felons an opportunity . A second chance. We dont hold that against you. If you are willing to work and bus tables, come on in. Hillary clinton seemed interested in that, and i want to ask both of you, how important to have a politician taking this interest and a retail approach in shaking hands and meeting every worker when there were were politicians like donald trump making the unfortunate comment about oakland and not everyone candidate is stopping and meeting the people. How does this change who you are thinking about voting for . Usually, politicians want to come to town and talk at the voters. Hillary clinton came to listen and you could just tell how much she cared about the plight that the average american was going through and the every day worker and wanted to hear how the government could do better to lift up and create opportunities. Does that make a difference . A huge difference. It made me feel here she is coming to oakland and coming to like i said earlier, most politician guess to the 5star hotels and restaurants, and she came right to the neighborhood and my restaurant is very much the neighborhood and she met with the people and she was very down to earth. She was really easy to talk to, and she really thats i think thats what touched me the most. You know, she was very i believe in her now. I mean she made me feel like she really does care. It wasnt just political rhetoric that you hear all the time, and everyone is asking what was her stand or her policy. And it was really just listening to what we had to say. You could tell by her questions that that she was thoroughly engaged and wasnt just throwing out a few questions like whats happening here . No and she realize that does federal programs do create barriers and are not helping. And well look ahead to june 7 to see if the visits pay off. Mayor libby schaaf and derrick, thank you. And well throw it to mike. Well look at the legal battle that Kate Steinles family is battling. Im sitting down with Michael Cardoza next in the verdict. And the bay area weather, clear and most neighborhoods are warming up a bit. Ill let you know if that continues going into the Holiday Weekend. And another live look outside on this friday afternoon, the good old macarthur maze, a slow start as folks get away for the Holiday Weekend, and the as are back in town for baseball tonight at the coliseum, by the way, and the four on 2, well be right back. What if we made a paint that was so special that was such a jewel among paints that you had to seek it out. Nope, even easier than that. More like taking a left on that street where you usually take a right that wasnt so hard. And if finding that paint made you and your walls beam with pride, is it still paint . Benjamin moore. Paint like no other. Find one of our 5,000 authorized retailers near you. Today in the verdict, San Francisco mayor ed lee blaming the rise of property crime on judges and Kate Steinles family taking suit against the former sheriff of San Francisco. Role the animation. Legal analyst Michael Cardoza is back, and steinle, is this a case of if you did your job, my daughter would be alive today . Absolutely, and the sad thing about it, mike, is the family will go through all of this. It will be a very difficult civil prosecution. The goal of the attorneys of the steinles will to get to a jury. A jury is likely to give them some money. I know thats not exactly what they want but they have a lot of hurdles to get over and the hurdles are the government immunitys there are roadblocks of government immunitys in front of them. Our government can make mistakes and say, look. We work for the government and we did this but you dont get to sue us. It might be tough against i. C. E. But the gun used in the killing, it came from an agents car. Lets get to the store we are about to do after this, auto burglaries in 41 Veronica Sanchez and home burglarys in San Francisco. So blm, land management, what do they have . They have an officer who puts his weston in the weapon in the car and someone breaks in the car. So are they going to lean on that, a jury and look will the jury just look at the facts or no, the jury will be instructed just to look at the facts of the case. So emotionally, a jury will probably give steinle something. The real trick here will be to get to the jury and the federal courts because there will be so many motions where the governments government immunity, you cant come after that. Dismiss this case and a judge is likely somewhere along the way to dismiss this case. If they get to the jury like i say, that will be a big win. Even against a former sheriff . Even against a former sheriff. He will say i did what i thought was right. Thats the law of the land. Right, so leave me alone. Otherwise, they will be afraid to make decisions. And the chronicle Editorial Board sat down with the mayor. The judges are ought to be held accountable if they fail to hand out adequate punishment, so the mayor is saying they are responsible for the uptick in crime. What is the mayor doing saying this . I have no idea what he is doing saying this. Is he right in part . He might be a little right. Heres what remember when giuliani was mayor of new york city . You know what he did . He brought in the heads of his department every monday, Police Department, fire department, and Public Works Department the mayor does that, im sure. Nowadays, no, not like that. You sit down and you talk with the police, part 1, and part 2, crime and that would be a great question to ask the new police chief. What are your plans for part 1 and part 2 crimes . And those crimes are the quality of living crimes in San Francisco. They blame prop 47, saying that the punishments are getting lower. Thats what the Police Officers are blaming it on. And they blame it on 109 also because that started letting lowlevel people out of prison and now theyre committing the crimes. The Police Department said, look. We arrest them and the da doesnt prosecute them and when they get to the judges, well, theyre pretty light. So you put all of those people bring it back home for a second. Bring it back home. The mayor is overstepping his power and diving into judges and what dont you think . Yes, i do think he is overstepping. Lets talk to the Police Department. Are you making those arrests in how many people live in San Francisco . Your house has been burglarized and the house has been burglarized and the police dont even come out and take a report saying well, if we make it, the da doesnt prosecute and theyre all right. And we vote for the judges; right . The judges . It would be interesting to see their record. We want to solve the problem. Okay. Michael cardoza, this weeks the verdict. Keba . We are loving this warmer weather. Oh, yeah, bring it. It seem when seems when we get the pattern for 3 or 4 days, we want the other extreme. Its the birthday of the Golden Gate Bridge today, 79 years old and it looks great, a bit of haze out there. Heres the satellite looking at mostly clear skies over a good portion of the state. There is a fog bank and youll notice this. Tracing the surface winds that are trying to push back the fog bank and see some of the overcast that will regroup late tonight through tomorrow morning primarily near the immediate coastline and you can see a few showers in the southern sierra but thats about it. The state is fairly quiet today. The numbers, warming up, 80s in fairfield, concord, walnut creek, livermore, and santa rosa, for and San Francisco, 65, and the coast, not too warm. Only in the upper 50s. And hot inland monday and beyond, lots of 90s in the inland areas and just a little bit of haze. First thing tomorrow morning, haze and lower 50s and patchy fog at the bay but the weekend is starting off nice. San francisco, 74 and well take this into the afternoon hours, lunchtime, mostly sunny and 69 and sunny and warm at 4 00, 72 degrees. If you are heading to the coast, the beaches are not warming up too much, only in the 60s to right around 70 degrees and patchy morning fog and water temperatures in the 50s, 56 at last check. Here is the headline, a warm saturday across the entire bay area and well have the microclimates, not a strong offshore event. Concord, 89 and oakland, 79 and San Francisco, lower 70s, and san jose, 84 and half moon bay, 69 degrees. The 5day forecast, the temperatures, one thing is well cool off coastside sunday and monday, pretty hot temperatures. So if you like the heat, you will like monday. Yesterday, we had the 90s, and it seemed warm, and today, i bumped it up to 93 degrees, guys and that warm to hot pattern will linger into next week. Calling in sick, mark. We know now. I cant do it.
