Without any problems. Threats today were sent to schools in miami, houston, orlando, dallas, among others. On tuesday, thats when the la school shut down for the day while new York City Schools received a similar email threat. But officials there concluded it was a hoax and they kept the schools open. Turns to our top story. Disturbing testimony today as the preliminary hearing got underway in the killing of a 9 yearold boy. Henry lee live in the newsroom with the investigators testimony. Henry . Chilling testimony with the accused killer telling police he believed world war iii was coming and he wanted to know what it was like to kill somebody before that happened. Chilling testimony in the stabbing of 9yearold ogran. He was stabbed to death by his Brothers Best friend. Sheriff deputies found a bloody hunting knife and a glove in the victims home. Shultz turned off the power and waited until everyone was sleeping before the attack, Authorities Say. As for a motive he believed that world war iii was imminent in the somewhere near future, that as opposed to it being a war between nations it would be a war between neighbors. And he needed to know what it was like to kill someone prior to this arm getten state. Armageddon state. They say he suffered from a disillusional disorder and didnt have the homicidal attempt to kill jordan which is an element of first degree murder. Prosecution says though he was troubled he knew right from wrong. Henry, can you give us just a sense of the emotion there inside the courtroom during this testimony . Im not sure if the victims family was there. Reporter yeah, the victims family was there. The father was brought to tears many times. Many relatives and friends dabbed at their eyes with tissues. Even the lead detective on the stand had to pause to control his emotion because he had to go step by step what this defendant did. And henry, again, this was a preliminary hearing. This is not the trial. So what can we expect next . We may have more testimony january 6th after which the judge will determine whether theres enough evidence to hold him over for trial. Henry lee in the newsroom. Henry, thank you for the report. The Salinas Police chief says prolonged abuse caused the death of two Young Children whose bodies were found in a storage unit in redding. Tina huntsman has been arrested with the case and a companion. The teen lives with huntsman and five or six children that lived in the salinas home. Investigators are still identifying all the relationships of those involved. Now the police chief detailed a timeline of their investigation that began with an allegation of child abuse involving a 9 yearold on friday. That case led investigators to the storage unit where the bodies of 3yearold delilah and 6yearold shaun were found inside a plastic container. The police chief says criminal charges will be filed tomorrow or monday against huntsman and the 17yearold. This is certainly in my 32 year career the most egregious child abuse homicide case ive ever seen. The two will be charged with two counts of murder with special circumstances, including torture. That would make the two eligible for the death penalty. They will also be charged with torture for the alleged abuse against the 9yearold girl. Salinas police are heading up the investigation as they believe the abuse began in their city though they are not entirely sure yet how long that abuse lasted. Huntsman and the teenage boy are expected to be brought back to salinas next week from Plumas County where they were arrested after the discovery of the two younger childrens bodies. The woman on video confronting muslims praying in the Bay Area Park now faces a hate crime charge. You are very deceived by satan. Your mind has been taken over, brainwashed. He was talking about my god. Reporter the cellphone video shows the woman throwing coffee on one of the men. Denise slader told ktvu she saw the group praying and wanted to tell them about christ. Slider who works for the state department of corrections claims she acted in self defense. The Alameda County has charged her with battery and hate crime. 47yearold juan goh is charged with killing 7 people at waco university, a christian school. That was back in 2012. They testified that gohs thoughts were paranoid illusions. The judge told the victims family members a trial could still happen saying justice is not denied, just delayed. He will remain in a psychiatric facility. Lawmakers reached an end of the year compromise which essentially avoids another Government Shutdown. As mike emanuel tells us, not everyone is happy about the trillion dollar pay some say does really to curb the size of government. To order. Reporter the house of representatives will consider a more than 1. 1 trillion bill after taking up a 57 billion package with major support from republicans. This legislation makes over 20 different tax provisions permanent. Reporter after reaching a compromise, lawmakers avoided another Government Shutdown this week when federal current spending was due to expire. The legislation funds the government through next september. Repeals on crude oil freezes some irs operations and provides an 8. 1 billion expansion of 9 11 First Responder benefits. Boehner says hes not thrilled with the bill but had to play with the cards dealt after coming after boehner. I understand some people dont like the aspects of this. But thats the compromise we have. Reporter harry reid called it good legislation and the art of compromise. But the houses Top Democrats complained about no bailout for puerto rico and the oil issue. There are concerns that we have about jobs, that jobs will leave the country because of lifting the ban on crude oil but the remedy for refineries is not adequate. Reporter president obama has threatened to veto the measure if it included a gop backed plan to back new regulations. With that dropped, the president says he will sign the bill. President obama today again tried to reassure the American Public that the u. S. Government is doing all they can to protect them. Heres what i want every american to know. Since 9 11, weve taken extraordinary steps to strengthen our Homeland Security. Our borders, our ports, our airports, our aviation security, including enhanced watchlists and screening. And weve gotten much better thanks, in part, to the people in this room of preventing large, complex attacks like 11. 9 11. Moreover, and i think everybody will agree, we have the very best intelligence, counterterrorism, Homeland Security, and Law Enforcement professionals in the world. Our folks are the best. Across the our government, these dedicated professionals here are relentless 24 hours a day, 365 day days a year. He made his statement in virginia. He held his regular National Security briefing there today and settled the situation. He says part of the reason for the change in location was to draw attention to the excellent counterterrorism work being done there. The president also said the mission to protect the homeland continues on three fronts. One, overseas where u. S. Forces are directly targeting the Islamic State and other terrorist groups particularly in syria and iraq. Two, by working to prevent terrorists from getting into the united states. Arrested a friend of San Bernardino shooter syed farook on charges related to terrorism. Investigators say enrique markez says he bought the rifles for the two that killed 14 people. Investigators say theres no evidence he had advance knowledge of the attack. He faces charges for supporting terrorism and illegally purchasing those weapons. He also faces an immigration charge for a shan marriage for a member of farooks family. He and his brother are married to sisters from russia. An examination on whether more security is needed in the vetting visa waiver program. Its all apart of investigation on capitol hill on a way to allow refugees in while keeping terrorists out. The Oversight Committee discussed the vetting process currently in place and the San Bernardino in particular. The attacker in the San Bernardino mass shooting received a visa to fiance visa to enter the u. S. Now officials are on the defensive. Reporter congress is investigating the San Bernardino shooting. On thursday, the house Oversight Committee looking at the vetting process for immigrants and refugees. They fear that terrorist immigrants may be wanting to enter through the visa. Tashfeen maliks husband syed farook vouched for her. If social media will be probed in the screening process, some claim, it would have been easy to see malik was an isis sympathizer. Back in 2011 when Homeland Security was thinking about using social media, the decision in Homeland Security was, bad idea. [ chuckle ] they made the wrong call. Reporter ahead of the Immigration Program hit back, telling the committee about several new programs that are using social media and other open sources to track terrorists. Any thought that the department of Homeland Security had simply, uh, foregone the use of social media for purposes of immigration screening is a mistaken thought. Reporter the hearing comes a day after f. B. I. Director james comey said the San Bernardino terrorists used private messages to communicate, not open social media. The ic companies have to cooperate with the government, to find a way. Private messages is one thing. But encrypted apps as well. Reporter and this comes a day ahead of the president s plan to visit the San Bernardino area to visit victims families and friends. And as lawmakers push for more access to social media accounts, even private accounts, government Officials Say access alone isnt going to close the gap in the intelligence needed to identify radicalized people coming into the u. S. Theres less screening value than you would expect at least in the small samples. Some of the things weve seen have been more ambiguous than clear. I think we all continue to believe that there is a potential for there to be information of screening value particularly as lynch and i think you have also observed in high risk environments. We dont even look at their public stuff. Thats what kills me dhs doesnt even regularly require that their Administration Offices for people coming we continue even look at their public stuff they questioned Michelle Orton bond for the state Department Bureau of affairs. Shes been matching new threat information with the records of visa waivers and revokes visas. She says the u. S. While theyre not backing down from the attacks, they do seem to be toning it down a bit. What i said is first of all i think we have a talented group of people, certainly better than the democrats. There are policy differences among us. On National Security, in particular. We need to discuss the differences. Its not personal. The Communications Workers of america which represents 700,000 workers nationally announcing thursday they will endorse him over frontrunner hillary clinton. Bernie Sanders Campaign says theyve collected 2 million contributions and predicts its on track to outpace president obamas 2012 president ial campaign by the end of the year. Fox 2 news brought to you by protestors are still upset there in baltimore after a mistrial was declared for that first Police Officer charged with the death of freddie gray. Protestors, though, have remained peaceful for the most part. Police report just two arrests. And that was overnight. Well, today a judge met with prosecutors and Defense Attorneys regarding a possible retrial. That hearing lasted just 30 minutes with no decision. But a sports spokeswoman says the judge could call for another hearing. That will happen possibly before the end of the year. So the jury, they deadlocked after three days and more than 16 hours of deliberation in the case of officer william porter. Prosecutors say porter failed to secure this man right here, freddie gray, in a seatbelt while transporting him in a police van and did not call a doctor for help. Gray died of a broken neck. Porter is charged with voluntary manslaughter, Reckless Endangerment and misconduct. The jury was deadlocked on all four charges. They expect a retrial will produce different results. Both sides have prepared to try this case again immediately because they know everything. And they learned a lot during the trial. And i think the prosecution will make adjustments and the defense will make adjustments so that the next trial will be significantly different in terms of what evidence gets presented and how it gets presented. Reporter so porter is the first over six officers set to go to trial. Legal analysts say the mistrial changes plans for the other defendants. They still likely want to try porter first so he can later testify against the vans driver and officers cesar. His trial set for january 6th. Mark, find the umbrellas, right .
