Water users were listed today by name as excessive water users. Tom vacar has the three big users. Reporter indeed. You know, east bay m. U. D. Hasnt released a list like this in almost a quarter century. These water wasters rich as they may be are accountable because the rules apply to them as well as us. The 1108 folks on this list were warned repeatedly and now have exhausted their appeal periods. They agreed on a threshold of 4 times the average household use. Now, before the drought started, the average household use was 250 gallons per day. So excessive use would be 1,000 gallons a day or more. Kirkland says he believes that irrigation leaks have doubled his water use since the last billing cycle which would still put him well into the top tier of excessive water users. Mark pine of alamo, the number 2 excessive user, at 8,000 gallons a day, did not return my calls. The oakland as billy beane the third highest excessive user used 6,000 gallons a day. Beane blames his excessive use on irrigation and pool leaks saying, we are more than displeased and embarrassed by the usage and are taking immediate action. Now, since todays list is only a third of this billing cycle, there could be three times as many big users and we and east bay m. U. D. Will be looking for them. If needed the penalty can get tougher. Reporter that penalty could mean higher fines. Actual flow restrictions. In the worst case out and out water cutoffs. Reporting live. Tom vacar. East bay m. U.
