That is where you find Tara Moriarty live on the the scene near interstate 280 in los altos. Tara, what can you tell us . Reporter we know the accident cleared a little after 4 00. So all northbound lanes of 280 are now open. Now this deadly crash happened around 1 45 this morning. We know the chp says the driver of a black bmw lost control and flipped their car. The person inside killed. We are not sure about the condition of that driver. The chp shut down several northbound lanes for two hours. Southbound lanes not effected. The coroner has removed the body from the roadway and right now the family is being mauved. We dont know exactly what caused the crash but the freeway is pretty slippery from the drizzle. Really a good reminder to everybody this morning slow down. We havent had rain in awhile. Any time we have that first rain and mixes with the oil on the roadway it makes for pretty slick conditions. Agents removed what appeared to be video gaming machines. Although no arrests were made, police say they seized more than 100 machines from the business. In the past year and a half they tied illegal gambling to a series of shootings and stabbings in the south bay including one homicide. Police are investigating the citys first homicide in ten years. A 37yearold woman was found shot to death inside her apartment on canes avenue on monday. Family members tell us the victim is ann tier paul. She was a dental student a year away from graduating. The drought has increased its cost while decreasing its income. Now the board says no decision will be made until may but it did discuss a nearly 20 rate hike. That would translate to 5 a month for residence in the northern part of the county. Not surprisingly most customers were opposed but some Board Members are against a big rate hike as well. I think we have an affirmative obligation to look at the totally of our program and not just say heres some costs and were going to directly pass them on. Controversial decision today on whether to hold schools accountable for results of new standardized tests. They are recommending the states suspend the academic Performance Index for the Current School year. That index uses students results on statewide tests to measure schools academic performances. The information is is used to determine which schools require improvement but even if the test results arent used for the state index, the information will still be available for the public to see. Yesterday was the first day students started using a new computerized testing system across the state. California schools have replaced the old star test which were taken with pencils and paper with a computerized california assessment. State School Superintendent tom says it will take time for students to adjust to the new tests and standards. He also adds that parents should not compare results from the new and old tests at this point. The star test students picked from multiple choice answers.
