Ktvu fox 2 reporter Tara Moriarty is joining us from vallejo. Tara. Reporter that is right. We are just north of downtown vallejo. Where high winds, very gusty winds toppled trees and power poles in the area. As you can see pg e crews have had this roadway blocked off. 400 people in this neighborhood are without power. Since friday more than 121,000 people have been impacted with outages. 4,000 people with without power. The hardest areas hit. The knot bay and peninsula. One outage shut down a save mart Grocery Store in antioch. I was bagging and the power went out. And turned back on. And went back out. There was a few people in here. And we pretty much closed after that. Reporter most of the outages are expected to be restored later this morning. Pg e brought in crews from oregon and washington to help with the outages. At 4 00 this morning pg e was wiz supposed to send out an e mail giving us an update on how much power. We will pass that information along to you. Thank you, tara. Public works crews are cleaning up debris. Cars splashed through flooded areas. At times people were slamming on their brakes to avoid some accidents but not everyone has success. Slick roads, high speeds, and low visibility contributed to a number of crashes. I really worry about that. My car actually spins. So after that i just carefully drive. Tow Truck Drivers say they saw 23 accidents per hour. High winds caused many flights to be canceled in and out of sfo. The airport duty manager tells us 118 flights were canceled yesterday alone. Winds of up to 45 miles an hour made it too dangerous for some planes to land and take off. Coming in it was pretty rough. We hit some turbulence and i feel like we had to get rerouted. Even though there are scattered showers and winds expected today, sfo does not expect it to impact any flights. They have now moved on to the east coast which is responsible for canceling more than 20 flights today. More could come throughout the morning. San Francisco Police are investigating another puzzling twist in that case of body parts found in a suitcase on a city street. We are learning the main suspect died over the weekend after checking himself into a city hospital. He said im sorry about the call motion. You know. Reporter he said he was living on the street and needed a sleeping bag, food, and water. They said they didnt talk about the details of the case but he seemed deeply effected. He seemed a little sad that he would be in jail for a couple of days. And he took off. He said ill see you later. The District Attorney declined to prosecute. Public defender jeff himself picked him up from jail when he was released on tuesday. He learned about his death from media reports today and released a statement reading in part quote im sad to listen that mark died. I found him to be a kind and engaging person. Ive got something to work with. Investigation into this grim case does not die with andres. There is still a lot of questions police and prosecutors will look to answer. Two men were found dead in the garage of a mont claire home. The men were shot in the beckback of the head and had duct tapes on their mouths and wrists. No suspects have been arrested at this time. Drivers in northern Sonoma County can drive on highway 1 after a big rig rolled over. It happened yesterday just after 8 00 in the morning. The fire chief said both the truck and the tanker rolled off of the road. The tanker lost almost half of its gasoline. We had a total of 8800 gallons of gasoline. System of the gas ended up in a creek. Cleanup work is still under way so that there is one way Traffic Control still many that area. The truck driver only suffered minor injuries. Same sex couples are expected at courthouses around the state as a federal judge overturned the alabamas gay marriage ban and takes effect today. This morning there is a push to make it easier for parents to get their children vaccinated. Chuck schumer is urging the centers for Disease Control and prevention to offer free shots at schools and health clinics. And california saw 11,000 cases of whooping cough last year. That is a new record. Health experts say an increasing number of people that are catching the disease were actually vaccinated. According to a report in the sacramento b it is because the new less potent vaccine was introduced in the late 1990s and people are vulnerable if they do not get the recommended booster shots. A recent study in the journal of medical association concluded the current vaccine provides solid protection in the first year but the effectiveness steadily declines over five years.
