Department investigating the deadly shooting of an 18year old woman by one of its deputies. Now ktvu Tara Moriarty is at the scene now where investigators spent hours overnight trying to determine what happened. Reporter neighbors say that they are shocked and angry that police didnt use a taser on this girl rather than a gun. This all happened just before 9 30. The scene has now cleared. We are very close to where it has happened. The last deputy left around 3 00 this morning. Neighbors say the girl was mentally unstable and she had been off of her medication last night. A San Mateo County sheriffs deputy told us a female was possibly armed east of highway 1. When deputies arrived, there was a confrontation and Officials Say the deputy feared for his life and fired his weapon. We dont know what the teenager was holding if indeed it was a weapon. The Sheriffs Office is not releasing many details since the shooting is under investigation. Its being handled by them as well as the District Attorneys office. No deputies were hurt. We believe the deputy has been placed on paid administrative leave. We will try to talk to family and friends to see if anyone saw anything around here. Tara moriarty ktvu channel 2 news. The city of oakland has afreed to pay 1 agreed to pay 110,000 to settle a lawsuit stemming from a Deadly Police shooting. An 18yearold man was shot and killed by police two years ago. Allen blueford was killed after he pointed a gun at an officer during an Early Morning chase. Bluefords family contends the shooting stemmed from an incident of racial profiling that turned into a deadly encounter. Now to our continuing coverage of the muni sickout. Thousands of commuters face another rough ride to work today. Day three of munis worst labor disruption in years. Muni tells us here it expects to have more drivers on the job this morning but the Transit Agency still will not be operating on a full schedule due to the drivers sickout. Yesterday muni ran only half of its 600 buses, trains, and absolutely no cable cars. Passengers say they are running out of patience. Monday on the way to work and home i had to catch a cab. Ive had to spend 40 to get too to and from work. Today i had to catch another cab downtown. Reporter the sickout is the result of a bitter contract dispute between muni workers and management. It could continue through the rest of the workweek because an arbitrator is not scheduled to meet with the two sides until saturday. Now ktvu checked to see how muni salaries compare with the pay of other Public Transit agencies. Currently a muni operator makes 29. 52 an hour. For bart its 34. 37 an hour. New york transit operators make 31. 87 an hour. And in chicago workers are paid 30. 70 an hour. Its already been a busy morning for the San Jose Fire Department after two fires broke out within minutes of each other. One of the fires was in a garage. No yours there. That started just about 1 00. One minute after another fire at an Apartment Building on judith street. Here a photo of san jose firefighters. They tweeted this out of smoke coming from that apartment fire. Firefighters treated two people for minor injuries. The red cross is assisting 11 people who are now displaced. Firefighters do not believe the two fires are connected. The chp looking for a stolen car suspect who caused an injury crash in oakland over night. Officers spotted the stolen car at 9 00 last night. They tried but failed to stop it. Officers say they were not chasing the suspect when the individual slammed into another car on interstate 880 near high street. The suspect then got out of the car and ran away. One person in the other car was hurt but the injury is is not believed to be serious. The crash did block several lanes of southbound 880 and the chp says its following up on some leads. Now to our election coverage this morning. We have an update to the results on yesterdays primary election. In the race for governor incumbent jerry brown as expected took the top spot with 54 of the vote. He will face republican neil cash carry on the ballot. Tim donnelly conceded to kashkari. I will fight hard. I take nothing for granted. California has come a long way in the last few years. The governor went on to say he believes his strong showing in the election is because people like his common sense. Get it done approach. The race for the number two spot was close. Early polls showed tim donnelly in the lead but Neil Kashkari pulled ahead spending 2 million of his own money and winning the endorsement of big name republicans across the country. I just got a call, im really pleased and honored. I got a call from mitt romney. Governor romney was very encouraged by the early returns. The 40yearold kashkari has never held an elected office before while at the Treasury Department he did oversea the bailout of the nations banks. Democratic state senator alex padilla will face pete peter son for the secretary of state. The primary race there very tight. Padilla came in first edging out peterson. State senator is leland yee came in third even though he was not in the race anymore. The san jose mayors race it will be dave cortese. Ktvu new has obtained new Surveillance Video in a case in which an oakland Security Guard is accused of beating a special needs student in a wheelchair. The video Shows Security officer Marchell Mitchell wheeling 17yearold Francisco Martinez to an elevator. They then start fighting over control of the wheelchair. A second guard steps in. But in a scuffle the teen falls to the floor with mitchell apparently kicking him in the head and tracking him into the elevator. There is no excuse for an adult to behave like this. Video released last week shows mitchell after the elevator then reach the upper floor, rolling francisco down the hall and hitting him after the teen admitted to spitting at the officer. The teenager says he suffered, neck, and back pain. Mitchell was fired for the may 19th incident and now faces criminal charges. The other Security Guard shalandra cotton is being placed on administrative leave. We were unable to reach cotton for a comment. Oakland woman accused of attacking a nineyearold girl with a hammer has been charged with Sexual Assault as well. The 48yearold woman lured the girl into the boys bathroom at Lafayette Elementary School on friday and in Court Documents police say that she attacked the little girl with a hammer and hit her several times. She also faces kidnapping and battery charges. The School District says the incident may have stemmed from a dispute between the woman and the girls family. Happening today bay bridge engineers will present the test results on the latest problem on the new eastern span. That problem uncovered last month is with the steel rods. More than 200 of the high strength rods have shifted since they were installed. And they could be jolted in a major earthquake. Possibly threatening the stability of the entire bridge. The Santa Clara CountyDistrict Attorney are pulling their resources to try to solve two cold killings. Now they were offering 20,000 reward for information in either of the cases. The first is the deadly stabbing of 1yearold Anthony Daniel santa cruz near San Jose High School in february of 2013. Police say seven people witnessed the stabbing but no one could identify the attackers. The second case is the shooting death of 20yearold Justin Watkins in may of last year. That was in south san jose. Watkins had just finished a shift at a game stop store in Westfield Oakridge mall and was shoot while walking home. They have arrested two teens for two violent crimes. Their crime spree began when they attacked two middle School Students on cornwall way. One is accused of pistol whipping one of the boys and steeling their nike shoes and smart phone. The adults yelled out please dont do that, there is a baby inside and the kids stopped the car right away. Police are now looking into whether the same two teenagers are responsible for another robbery at the bay fair bart station last weekend. A final note for san joses opposed pot club crack down comes next week. The city council deadlocked with a 55 ordnance effecting san jose more than 80 medical marijuana dispensaries. It would move many away from schools and Day Care Centers along with other restrictions. Right now all the dispensaries are illegal. But we are proposing to allow them in certain zones. Pot club owner says the rules are far too restricted. He could be the tie breaker when the Council Takes up the pot crack down again. That will be next tuesday. A budget crisis in east Contra Costa County has firefighters leaving the department scene say they fear its putting their own communities at risk. Two years ago voters rejected a parcel tax and since then emergency federal funds have kept fire stations now open. With layoffs looming, veteran firefighters are looking for other jobs. Eight firefighters may leave this summer and by november one third of the department could be gone.
