Reporter some cities did well in cutting their use but others did not. The water board expects to have regulations may 5th like increased prices for water. The bay area did better than average with an 8 savings compared to predoubt estimates but the east bay came up short. 6 savings. Mandatory cuts, rate increases and even fines may be in store. East bay reservoir is deceiving. Kept artificially full. The water agency is in fact running dry. I know the temperatures have been really warm and its tempting to over water your plants but the drought continues. Things are getting worse and people really need to cut back. Reporter the state is taking aim at water wasting communities. New figtures show last month east bay mud users averaged 59 gallons per day per resident. Far short of the states looming 25 cut. I feel like people are not used to the idea of not having water. You see the reservoirs are full. Reporter some people say theyre doing their part. We actually let the backyard go. Because, you know, with the drought. Reporter others say we have all been in denial. I think if we would have planned ahead more with some dams inaudible . Smith is in san jose where she learned car thefts are often linked to bigger crimes. Reporter the Auto Theft Task force came across this one car that was just reported stolen. Now two suspects believed to be serial car thieves are behind bars. Multiple agencies swarmed this neighborhood tuesday afternoon. At one point even putting a school on lock down as police eventually handcuffed two men who may be responsible for a spring of car thefts. The detectives were able to keep a visual as he jumped fences and watched him go into a fence. Reporter that suspect surrendered. The pair stole this. An older model gold honda crv and likely used this red screw driver to start the ignition. Detectives at first didnt realize the car was stolen. Ran the plates because it looked suspicious. I wish i could say it was luck of the draw but we come across a lot of cars. Its a big issue. About 16,000 cars a year stolen in santa clara county. Were busy. Reporter on average the Task Force Says 40 to 45 cars are stolen every day in santa clara county. The task force recovered 166 stolen cars and 89 arrests this year. Multiple victims showed up today to retrieve belongings. Being used for different plates and paper plates and use them to go out and do other crimes. Reporter this victim got lucky. While the majority of stolen cars are eventually recovered, they are not usually recovered as fast or in good condition. Police say theyve seen an uptick in honda suvs getting stolen so dont leave valuables in plain sight including car charges since the charges are often associated with pricey iphones. There is growing concern tonight about the safety of cable car operators. A veteran conductor was hit and seriously injured yesterday. The conductor suffered a broken leg and internal bleeding after being hit while helping passengers get off a cable car. According to the president of the Transit Worker Union there was a similar accident at the same location and now signs telling drivers not to pass stopped cable cars. I have visiting people coming to the city. They really may not know the law but the locals should.
