She died after being hit by a stray bullet during a gun battle. Ktvus Cristina Rendon was at Oakland Police headquarters as investigators and police spoke about the arrest in the past hour. She is here now with what they said. Reporter very clear that other arrests could come within the next few days or weeks. This case is unfolding as we speak. We can tell you within the last few hours today, anthony sims, a 19yearold man from oakland was charged with murder. We have his mugshot here. Police tell us he participated in a gun battle that led to chyemil pierces death. That is coming from witness statements and anthony sims himself. Police say he was with a group of people who got into an argument with another group and the two sides felt the need to settle their dispute with gunfire. Anthony sims was shot in the battle and he was arrested at the hospital. That is why police say it took several days to let us know about the development in the case and they are telling us anthony sims had a brother that was one of two victims in a double homicide on january 20. In that case there were two men who water shot inside a van. Police didnt want to talk about that case but here in this case on monday this gun battle that left a mother of three dead, they said they were able to pursue anthony sims through witness statements and they are thanking the public for stepping forward. There were several persons that fran that decided to use firearm that afternoon that decided to use firearms. For this crime we will take this to the full extent of the law and punish this individual who carelessly murdered this very wonderful woman in front of her kids. Police released new details about what he is accused of. He pushed his fiance to the ground last week and he was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor spousal battery. He shoved his fiance causing her to fall and destroy her cell phone. That broken phone could be a factor in whether charges are pursued. He also broke her cell phone which is a separate charge, and can be more serious in some ways if it was done to prevent her from contacting law enforcement. The 49ers said miller has not been suspended and the team is conducting its own review. Arraignment is set for april 20. In case the District Attorney decides to file charges in the case. That is why swapping with another pair can work. But her rare blood type started a swapping chain reaction. A record of sorts. Clearing six patients from the kidney waiting list. She she multiplied the number. I know all these people have time back and quality of life. That is just worth everything to me. Reporter it means a lot to her. She lost a son to cancer cancer and her husband 14 months ago. A person willing to donate a kidney is rare. She didnt think twice. I would do it again. I only have one to give but i would do it again. Reporter her kidney contribution did more than save six lives. She made it a point to publicize her feet. And the place where corrections officer set herself free. I came out to my family 5 years ago. I only came out here three years ago. Reporter we spent time with mandy who used to be called michael. She is the first openly transgender guard at san quentin. The prison opened in 1852. It is known as the q. One of the toughest places imaginable. The long standing rule here, dont stand out. A tall order for a 6foot tall transgender female female corrections officer. Putting yourself out there. Most people hide their trueselves. Reporter mandy spent years hiding. Working male jobs. Before becoming a corrections officer she was a damage control officer in the u. S. Navy. One of the burliest jobs on the boat. She played the part by mimicking other man. Learn how to puff up like they did. I had to teach myself how to be a guy. They bought it. Reporter transitioning hasnt always been easy. She almost quit san quentin before coming out. A super visor convinced her to stay. She says the administration is supportive. And surprisingly so are the inmates. The only thing i can come up for why that is, they understand what it is like to be looked at and judged. Reporter turning the tied takes time. One step at a time. She is leaving foot prints for others to follow. I started at san quentin in 2007. Reporter in a diary she chronicled the day michael went to work at the q for the first time as mandy. Facing down the toughest people in the state in lip stick. Reporter she wrote it was the scariest day of her life. I felt anything but brave. Reporter a supervisor pulled her aside what is with the make up. It hit me. I was stuck in a situation of my own making. I responded with the words i spent a life time avoiding. I am transgender. Reporter she said behind prison walls she has been supported and bullied and shamed. He told me i would spend an eternity rotting in hell for my choice. Words hurt. Even a prison guard trained to be tough. It is not easy being different. People are always going to look at you in those negative ways ways and they will always speak behind your back and laugh in your face. In two weeks i will be gone. Reporter she plans to have gender reassignment surgery. A new person. Being able to be like everybody else while still being myself.
