Reporter the little girl had surgery last night. However, hospital officials tell me they are not allowed to release her condition. That is because thats what the family requested. I will tell you People Living in her community are sending prayers her way and they are very concerned about last nights shooting. Like what the hells going on . Reporter this woman who asked we call her barbara has lived on 26th avenue for 28 years. She is shocked and startled that a driveby happened in her neighborhood. I thought it was fire crackers. Reporter just before 6 00 last night, a lightcolored car was driving southbound near flora. The car stopped midway and two men got out, fired several rounds before leaving the scene. The bullet struck an 8yearold in the neck as she played with her brother. Another bullet struck a man in his forties or fifties in the hip a few houses away. He is expected to survive. When i looked outside, i saw them holding their little girl in their arms, because she was, you know, had gotten shot. I looked this way and there was a man laying in my neighbors yard who had also got shot. Reporter today, we counted 17 bullet holes, several striking the house, including two in the window and one through this fence. That bullet might have been the one that struck the 8yearold child. They needed to declare martial law in oakland. Reporter this woman used to live on this block. This morning she rushed over after hearing about the shooting. She was afraid her brother was injured because he still lives in the area. They become, like, hostages in their own house. Its not safe to sit on your porch, not safe to walk out in the street. A San Mateo County sheriffs Water Rescue Team pulled several boaters out of the bay this afternoon. Three vessels responded to a canoe that was sinking about a mile off coyote point. Another canoe was trying to help. Eight people were rescued in all and brought to shore. They were treatedded for minor injuries, including potential hypothermia. Developing news and the wildfires still burning in disaig county. A new fire started today at Camp Pendleton marine corps base. 8500 military personnel and their families were evacuated. Some evacuations have been lifted tonight, as crews start to get a handle on this latest fire and whats been a very early and very destructive fire season. Ten major fires in San Diego County have now burned at least 39 square miles. Six are still burning, but two of those are almost contained. Scott thompson reports on the improving conditions today and the growing concern about what firefighters will face this summer. One of the most dramatic starts to fire season that ive seen. Reporter wildfires have ripped through Southern California this week, forcing evacuations, destroying homes and businesses, but firefighters are turning the tide on the wildfires, thanks in part to a shift in the weather. Police say a 10yearold was walking home from hersh Elementary School yesterday afternoon when a man sitting in a car on carroll avenue asked the little boy if he wanted a ride. The boy said he got scared and ran home. Police say he described the stranger as a latino or indian man about 30 years old with black hair, styled in a spike. He was in an older blue four door sedan. Today, friends and family retraced the steps of a missing San Francisco man. 19yearold sean seedy was seen almost a year ago. His family said at the time he was recovering from a traumatic brain injury suffered during a fall. Today, walkers retraced his last known route from the French International school on oak street to Golden Gate Park to try to raise awareness and look for any sign of his whereabouts. Former santa clara supervisor george shirakawa, jr. Is out of jail. He was released may 9 after serving seven months of a year long sentence on corruption conviction. Shirakawa served his time in dublin rather than in Santa Clara County because of his high profile. He pleaded guilty to charges that included misuse of public funds, spending some of that money on gambling and lavish meals. People in the east bay marched today to try to end poverty. The 9th annual march at lake merritt drew about 400 walkers. Organizers say 12 of Alameda County lives in poverty, including thousands of children in oakland. Mayor jean quan noted that after 50 years, americans are still fighting the war on poverty, launched by president johnson. Its time for statewide solution, for regional solutions, to make sure every kid has an opportunity to do well in the booming economy of the bay area. March organizers are hoping that efforts to raise the minimum wage will help, but say poverty is a longterm problem that could take another generation to solve. Each year, the tiburon organization brings School Children to release salmon to the ocean. After two or three years, they will return to their home waters to spawn.
