Its official. Nearly a year after he took over as the interim police chief, sean today was named the permanent chief of the Oakland Police department. Oakland mayor says crime has gone down and the chief reorganized the department. He is actually built a very Strong Leadership Team that worked together. Just after the announcement, chief sean spoke about his vision for the department. Ktvus christian captain was the first to talk to the new chief one on one and you had some tough questions for the chief about how the people of oakland see the department and where the chief is going to take that Department Going forward. Thats right. In that one on one discussion that i had with sean, he bleefs the believes the department is moving in the right direction, but theres a lot of work to do. I will perform the duties of police chief of oakland. After serving for a year at the citys interim chief of police, today sean went stepped into the role as oaklands Permanent Police chief. Under his leadership, the city has seen an 8 drop in reported crime and 18 drop in the number of homicides. This year, we are down almost 40 in robberies for the year. So i mean, we are making Good Progress along that way. Thats good, but obviously, we have quite a ways to go. On the streets of oakland, many say they want the new chief to lead a department more responsive to the communitys needs. They need to get involved with the community. And not just let each crime. I want to say what we need is someone that will be attentive and speaking out and soliciting what the community needs. The chief said today the department is reaching out, even using social media to speak to oakland about important issues. You can tell the message to specific areas. So thats one of the key strategies we have Going Forward to increase the communication. Another major issue, rank and file officers. Oakland Police Association leader said he is taking a wait and see approach. Is the new chief in his permanent position going to support the hard working men and women and only time will tell. Today, he hopes to bring the department to full staffing levels. Today we have 115 people in the police academy. Were not too far off from getting the next batch out and were looking at planning right now for an october academy. Right now, the city is still negotiating with the chief over the terms of his fouryear contract. No date has been set on what they will present the contract. Ktvu channel 2 news. Anthony was named the chief in october of 2009, but he resigned abruptly in 2011 part way through his contract. Then Howard Jordan took over as chief until may of 2013 when he left for medical reasons. After that, anthony took over as interim chief, but only for 48 hours before he stepped down and right after that, that is when sean took over as the interim chief. Police say the teen was shot near south 41st street across from Kennedy High School just before classes started this morning. Officers put that campus and four other schools on lockdown. The victim who is a freshman at kennedy was shot in the leg. Police say a fight off campus apparently led to the shooting. The unaccident has many parents and grandparents upset. I dont want him to die trying to get an education. I just, were going to keep him out until monday. I need to keep him safe. Im not saying they didnt, but they did, but i can keep him safes, too. Police have not caught the shooter, but investigators say they believe the victim and the shooter know each other. On friday afternoon, allen caught a burglar rummaging through it in his neighborhood. The minute i told him thats my stuff, he started running. The burglar had the 22year Old College Students backpack and all of his term papers for finals week. Im a student man. Dont, you know, im not going to let you get away with that. I need my backpack. Chased the burglar down the street. I was able to grab him, throw him against the floor, and attempt to get my stuff back. He backed off when he brandished a knife. He started threatening me. Police dont want people to fight off criminals, but they do commend what he did next. He provide add clear description of the burglar to police. I had his clothing, his height, his weight. Two blocks away from my house, and they had snapped a picture of him casing other cars. The information helped police find and arrest the man an hour later. Really a timely report. Makes a difference. San leandro has seen an increase, a 50 spike in car break ins. Police are trying to determine if the man who burglarized his car is tied to other crimes. Usually if we make one arrest, it can impact four or five other burglaries. And he got his car stereo and his backpack back and he plans on turning in his final papers at school later this week. San jose city councilman says casino matrix moved more than 65 million in profits into Shell Companies to avoid taxes. Also says the casino did not make annual payments of 5 of its profits to the Asian Americans of Community Involvement to Fund Gambling Addiction programs. The casino issued this response saying casino matrix believes the charges are unfounded and the Legal Process will show that the case that there is no case. The Attorney Generals Office filed a complaint with the gaming control commission. It will be up to that commission to decide whether to impose fines or revoke the casinos license. He is calling for a full information by the city auditor and the police chief. There is word tonight that a 19yearold concord man who crashed during a High Speed Police chase has died. The coroner said today, Michael Holden died from his injuries. He crashed on highway 680 in danville a week ago today. Reached speeds of up to 100 miles an hour. There is shock and disappointment at the Mountain ViewPolice Department after one of their own was arrested on child pornography allegations. 36yearold, kevin, was arrested yesterday during a sweeping child exploitation. He was taken into custody without incident. They reportedly found child pornography on his home computer. At this point, investigators have not revealed the exact nature of the images. The detectives would like to know, can we identify these victims . How was this pornography obtained . And hopefully they will be able to determine that. On friday and saturday, this low gets closer and the cooling winds, the cooling on shore flow, much more significant, reaches much further into the valley and cool sacramento in davis.
