Thought they were going to be jumping on a train and told to leave the platform. We did receive an email indicating they are trying to bring Staffing Levels up to par. The web site has not been updated. Be aware of that. You can see the gates, once again, are closed. The system obviously huge system wide glitch. A lot of questions from bart riders and frustration. Dont have enough train operators. I dont know whats going on. I got the pop up saying were closed. The gates opened after 4 00 this morning but no trains as of now. The Bus Shuttle Service will fire up in about a half an hour. Do not know what time service will be restored for the trains. It is supposed to be limited with trains running at full capacity this afternoon. We did speak to one man before he learned about the problem. How much earlier were you having to wait up to figure how youd get to work . At least an hour or so. Wed meet at 5 00 and take off from there. In by big carpool . Yeah. This is a relief for you. I have a furniture delivery at 5 00 this morning. So this is great. Now, eventually were going to be timing the commutes out into San Francisco and were assuming since the trains wont be running at full capacity, theres going to be delays. Hes been at the hayward yard where a lot of the trains we see move in and out. From this point we havent seen passenger trains rolling, are you seeing movement at your location . Reporter we have seen trains moving here. Were at the hayward maintenance yard. We have seen workers come here to the yard. I talked with some of them as i show you some of the trains sitting out here. I did talk with a manager who sort of echoed what bart is saying. He told me it has been difficult to get employees back to work overnight. Theres been a scramble to get people back in once the strike was called off. I want to show you the scene here. Here is a bart train that began to pull out of the yard or move out of the yard here just a short time ago. Maintenance workers did arrive here at midnight after the two unions came to an agreement with management late last night. And ever since then, the people ive been talking to, the people who have showed up, they have been doing safety checks on the trains. Some employees have been cleaning the trains to get them ready to carry passengers. And i caught up with one bart worker who reported to work he told me as soon as he heard the strike was called off. It feels great to be back at work. I didnt want to be off. But we did what we thought was necessary. Reporter and now because bart doesnt have enough employees back on the job, bart is not running at this point. And even once service begins, it likely will be limited service according to bart. May not be up and running at full strength until early this afternoon. We are standing by to get a sense of when bart will be getting service. We are here at the hayward maintenance yard where ive been told things should get busier throughout the morning. This mornings trouble on bart tracks come the morning after the strike ended. Ended with an announcement ktvu brought you live during last nights 10 00 news. Announced a tentative agreement between the Transit Agency and barts two largest unions. They did not reveal the details of the deal that brought this long and bitter labor dispute to an end. We will go back to work and continue our efforts to keep the bay area moving. We did not want to strike and we are glad to have a tent tifsh agreement we feel will work for all parties. This offer is more we wanted to pay but it is also a new path in terms of our partnership of our workers and helps us deliver bart service for the future. The agreement still must be ratified by the members and the bart board of directors. More than a dozen politicians showed up including lieutenant governor. A lot of peoples lives have been impacted by whats happened. So were grateful were here. But mark my word, if theres any lesson learned, this can never happened again. Again, full bart service is not expected to be restored until the afternoon commute. Were waiting to see when trains will start running this morning. Heres a look at the other top stories. Governor jerry brown has until tomorrow to see if bart transit has a 60 day cooling off period. Already rejected two contract offers. Union City Police Officer is on leave after the shooting death of a suspect inside a home. Police say the officer shot the man in his mid 40s after he threatened police with some sort of pipe. The man died at a local hospital. And independent investigation has been launched. The bart train two men was g controlled by an operator in training. Bart had been training managers to act as operators. Its waiting for the ntsb to finish investigation before any conclusions are made. Bart insiders say its not unusual to have trains running at full speed while workers are on the tracks or nearby. A trainer tells ktvu the dangers are wellknown. It happens everyday. Workers are faced with trains running in automatic on a daily basis. The term automatic means the train speed is set by computer to stay on schedule. Workers need approval before they go on to the tracks and go in pairs while one can work and the other is a look out. Theres a misconception you can hear the trains approaching and thats not true. So both men killed by the bart train on saturday and both had taken a safety class. They were both very experienced engineers. This morning, the search for a missing diver. Off fisk mill cove. Yesterday three divers spent about an hour and a half searching for the man. State park divers and the Sheriffs Office plan to search the coastline. A coast guard helicopter will also be used. If you plan to visit a beach today, watch out for big waves. The National Weather service says there could be dangerous waves along the coast through this afternoon. Strong currents could catch someone off guard. Fisherman are advised to stay away from rocks and jetties. Theyve released this photo of the alleged suspect. Police say the man walked into the bank, showed the teller a handgun and demanded money. The suspect then took off. Anyone with information is told to call police. Time now 4 39. Police are investigating a shooting that injured three people. Happened after 8 00 last night in front of a restaurant on fair grounds drive. One of the victims was found inside the restaurant. Police found the other two victims at nearby hospitals. They all are expected to survive. No arrests have been made. A new development in the death of a San FranciscoGeneral Hospital patient whose body was found in a stairwell. Her body was found more than two weeks later. A report was made several days before spalding was found. That raises questions about the firmness of the search. You dont go to a hospital to be treated for a medical condition and die of tragic circumstances all alone out on a balcony. The attorney is calling for investigator to share their findings in the case with her son and daughter to help ease the loss. And its really unknown at this point what time they are going to open up. Supposed to open up at 4 a. M. We received notice trains will not start20 minutes resuming until they get enough staff here. You can see there was a group of about 20 or so people waiting outside the station awaiting for the gates to open at 4 a. M. They didnt and a bart Police Officer came out and explained to them none of the trains were here. They were still in hayward waiting for them to come and a lot of people just left and decided maybe im going to wait for Charter Bus Service. Some people are still waiting out here. Giving it maybe an hour. We did run into a bart Union Employee who was a kwhuter. She works at sfo. We got her reaction to the fact the strike is over. Heres what she had to say. I woke up thinking were going to be back on the picket line. And im normally up at 2 45. But i was like hurry up and get to work. Bart will still have Charter Bus Service available here. The way its been working is charter buses have been available from 5 avm to 8 avm at nine east bay locations including this station, fremont, walnut creek, concord, west oak land and lafayette. Get there early if you can. Its really up to you if you want to hang out. Wait to to open up. Estimated time when thats going to happen. Theres about ten people here waiting to see.
